THE MISTAKE

Simon Minter arrived to his shared house. Katie and he would move in together when they got married, but for now, Simon was making the most of not having a ring on his finger to tie him to one person, and one home.

He walked through the door with his suitcase in hand and a photo of Nathan in his other hand.

"I'm back!" Simon calls. No one answers.

He sighs and heads into the kitchen to find all 6 of the other Sidemen standing with grins on their faces.

"You fuckers," Simon says, a wide smile forming on his face.

The boys all smile back, a few jokes are made and then Simon and the rest of them head into the living room sitting round to talk and drink beers that JJ carried in.

"Whats that you got mate?" Harry asks Simon and Simon breathes in deeply before standing up and looking round everyone individually.

"This is going to be a shock to you guys, but while I was away, I found out something incredible and daunting. I found out the girl who I called my best friend for most of my life, the girl I lost my virginity to, got pregnant that night. And yeah...I'm a father," Simon explains and he watches them all exchange glances.

"You're fucking with us!" JJ says, laughing and Simon shakes his head.

"Bro, are you fucking serious?" Ethan asks and Simon holds the photo up.

"Fuck me," Josh mutters, looking at the photo then Simon, "He really looks like you, don't he?"

"He does, yeah," Simon replies.

"Simon...Have you told Katie?" Tobi asks him and he sighs.

"No...I will of course, but not right now, I mean we're just finalising the wedding," Says Simon and Tobi nods understandingly.

"And this boy...Whats he called?" JJ asks and Simon smiles, turning the photo round to look at his son.

"Nathan Seth Hughes," He says and JJ tuts.

"This bitch didn't even call him Minter?" JJ says and Simon's other hand clenches as he looks up at JJ.

"Don't call Alex a bitch," Simon says and Vik looks at Simon with concern in his eyes.

"I'm sure JJ didn't mean it, Simon," Vik says, attempting to diffuse the situation that was brewing.

"I'm going upstairs to record," Simon says and he grabs his suitcase and heads on up.

Simon spends some time throwing his dirty laundry into a basket and then he starts up his computer, playing the photography of Nathan on his desk, in view.

"Simon?!" He hears and he looks round just in time to see Josh come into his room.

Josh closes the door behind him and smiles at Simon.

"I just wanted to say, if you ever need someone to talk to, about anything, I'm here for you," Josh says and Simon nods, smiling weakly at his best friend.

"Thanks man," Simon says and Josh nods once before turning and heading for the door.

"Wait," Simon says and Josh looks round.

"I want to talk about Alex," Simon whispers and Josh nods.

Simon sits on his bed and Josh sits on Simon's gaming chair, spinning it round to face Simon.

"Go right ahead man," Josh says and Simon nods.

"Alex Hughes was my best friend for years, since Primary school man, like we used to go to nursery together and shit," Simon says, Josh watches with keen eyes, and listens with keener ears, "Alex was my rock. She helped me with girl problems, she helped with my homework, she managed to get me a job at her parents shop. She was my whole world, and I looked up go her, even though I was taller and older...And so on my 17 birthday, after a night of partying, dancing, and just general pissing about, I kissed her, and she kissed back. And it lead on from there,"

"Okay...So whats the issue, Simon? This is all in the past?" Josh asks his friend, looking at him with concerned eyes.

"So the issue is...That my feelings I thought I'd forgotten, and thought didn't even exist anymore, somehow managed to resurface when I saw her again, and when I met my son," Simon says and Josh physically face palms.

"So you're telling me, you've suddenly got the hots for the girl who you fucked when you were 17 and got pregnant? Simon, you're getting married in literally 4 months!" Josh says and Simon falls back on his bed, spreading his arms out like he's making a snow angel.

"Thats my issue...Katie...I haven't even told her about Nathan yet...Josh help me," Simon whispers and Josh sighs deeply.

"Simon...This is your deal man, but if it was me, I'd just tell Katie, and I'd focus on her. You've been with Katie for 4 years, you've loved her for four years. This Alex girl has just come back into your life after not speaking to you in 6 years. You can't just go falling back in love with her because she's suddenly brought a kid into the situation," Joshua states and Simon nods.

"You're right," Simon replies and he sits up, smiling at Josh.

"I want Alex and Nathan to be at the wedding, and I want Alex to speak," Simon says and Josh nods.

"Of course man, we'll arrange it for you," Josh says and he stands up.

"Is that all mate?" Josh asks and Simon shrugs.

"What do you reckon to having Nathan stay here for a weekend?" Simon asks and Josh smiles.

"It'd be chaotic, but fun, you could take him all round London," Josh says and Simon smiles widely.

"That'd be nice huh?" Simon says and Josh nods.

"It sure would," Josh chuckles.

"I'm gonna go get ready to record, you hopping in the game?" Josh asks and Simon nods.

"Fuck, what do I tell he fans?" Simon says, his eyes filling with worry.

"We'll deal with that when we get to it," Josh says, and Simon just sighs.

"Now, are we recording?" Josh asks and Simon nods.

"Yeah sure," Simon replies.

Josh smiles at his friend before leaving the room. Once Josh is gone Simon gets up and sits at his desk, pulling up all his needed applications to record. He smiles at the photo that sat in front of him, his eyes glistening as he looked at his son. He loved the kid already, and he wasn't going to let him slip away from him, he's already missed 6 years- he didn't want to miss another minute with his son, even if it meant his relationship and his job were on the line.
