THE MISTAKE

Simon lead Nathan into the house that held 3 of his best friends. On the train ride to London they caught up with each other, Nathan asked lots of questions about his father, and Simon asked lots of questions about his son, and of course, the mother of his son.

"Guys?!" Simon calls, his hands resting on the shoulders of his son.

Suddenly 3 men came rushing downstairs, each of them wearing wide smiles as they looked at the young boy.

"This must be Nathan?" Josh says, kneeling down and smiling at his best friends kid.

"Hi," Nathan says shyly.

"I'm Josh," The bearded man says and little Nathan holds his hand out, which Josh shakes of course.

"I'm Vik," Says the next person, a wide smile on his face as he too shakes the boys hand.

"And I'm JJ," Says the final man, JJ shakes Nathan's hand too and looks up at Simon, "Seems to me like you've got a good kid, huh Si?"

Nathan smiles a toothy grin before looking up at his dad.

"Daddy can I get something to drink please?" He asks politely and Simon nods.

"Of course, right this way," Simon says, taking his sons hand and guiding him to the kitchen.

Nathan is rather taken aback by the size of the house- even his grandparents didn't own a house this huge.

"Do you like the house?" Josh asks from the doorway and Nathan nods.

"Yes, of course," Nathan replies and Simon gets Nathan a glass of orange juice.

Nathan gulps it down before looking at his fathers friends and giving them another shy smile.

"Dadddd?" He asks, looking round at his father.

"Yeah?" Simon smiles.

"Can I have a look around?" Nathan asks and Simon nods.

"I can show him round, if you like?" Josh offers and Simon smiles.

"Is that okay with you, Nate?" Simon asks and Nathan nods.

"Cool," Simon smiles and he watched as Josh leads Nathan upstairs to look around.

In the mean time, Vik and JJ smile to each other before looking at Simon.

"So, thats your boy huh?" JJ asks and Simon nods.

"Sure is, its weird...You know, having someone call you dad, and having to say 'this is my son' and stuff," Simon says and the two other boys nod.

"He seems real nice, honestly he seems like a good kid," Vik says.

Simon smiles and nods.

"Thats his mothers doing, she raised him right," Simon replies.

"Speaking of his mother, how was she about the whole going away for the weekend thing?" JJ asks and Simon shrugs.

"She seemed okay, but he's never been away from her like this, for this length of time, and this distance away," Simon comments, "I think she'll be okay, I'm not sure if Nathan will be, but if we keep him busy and happy, I'm sure he'll be okay,"

"Next time you should invite her too," Vik says and Simon shrugs again.

"Yeah man, I've been looking for a new girl to hit up, and I bet she's hot as fuck," JJ says and Simon frowns.

"You're not fucking Alex, no fucking way," Simon says and JJ smirks.

"Just jokin' man, I know you still got a thing for her, innit?" JJ smiles smugly.

"Nah, I have Katie," He says and Vik gives in and lets out a chuckle at JJ.

"I hate you guys," Simon mumbles before heading out of the kitchen and up the stairs.

JJ and Vik look at each other before they burst out into even more laughter, high-fiving triumphantly.

Simon finds Josh and Nathan in Josh's room, Nathan fascinated by the recording equipment.

"Hey Nathan, wanna come and see your room?" Simon asks and Nathan grins.

"Yes!" Nathan says and he gives a quick thank you to Josh before following his dad.

Simon had made up the spare room, it was located right next door to Simon's room. He opens the door and reveals a quite plain room, but it made the smile on Nathan's face widen.

He immediately rushed to the double bed, pulling himself onto it and then proceeding to bounce on it. Simon puts Nathan's backpack on the desk in the room and then sits down on the bed.

"So tomorrow I was thinking we could go into London city?" Simon says and Nathan grins.

"Can we go see the big clock?" Nathan asks, his eyes wide and a toothy smile on his face.

"Of course, and the river, and the London eye, and the Palace," Simon chuckles at Nathan's excitement.

It was approaching 9 o'clock, so Simon looks at his son and sighs.

"Time for bed though, kiddo," He says and Nathan nods.

He gets his Kylo Ren pyjamas out of his backpack and heads into the en suite to change, go to the toilet and to brush his teeth.

Simon waited in the bedroom, his son didn't take too long anyway.

Nathan yawned as he climbed into the double bed, lying right in the middle.

"Do you want a light left on?" Simon asks and Nathan nods shyly.

Simon flicks on one of the floor lamps, turning down the intensity with a small dial.

Nathan shuffles down the bed, the covers coming up to his shoulders.

"Need anything else?" Simon asks and Nathan nods.

"Mr Bear," He says, pointing at his bag.

Simon opens it up and takes out the fluffy teddy bear, passing him down to his son.

"Is that okay for you, Nate?" Simon asks and Nathan nods.

"Goodnight daddy," Nathan says between yawns and Simon presses a soft kiss to his sons forehead.

"Goodnight, son," He whispers before pulling the quilt up more and then turning and heading for the door. He turns off the main light, leaving the room dimly lit.

He hears Nathan whisper a soft goodnight to his absent mother before pulling his teddy bear closer and shutting his eyes.

Simon smiles, stepping out of the room and leaving the door slightly ajar before going next door into his own room.

Simon himself was tired, but he knew he had a video to edit, plus it was only 9 o'clock.

He sat down at his desk and looked at the photograph of his son before picking up his phone.

Simon: Just put Nate to bed, he whispered a cute little goodnight to you before he settled properly xx

Alex: awww, he's so cute. I hope he's behaving

Simon: He sure is, he's getting on with JJ, Josh and Vik too

Simon: btw, i wanted to ask you something important and kinda forgot

Alex: whats up?

Simon: so i know you're only supposed to have a few people speak at a wedding, but i was wondering if you could speak at mine? You know, we shared our childhood together, we have a son together...its only if you want to of course

Alex: i would be honoured to do that for you simon x

Simon: great! Well i'll get it all organised and make sure you're on the invite list, and Nathan will have to come of course

Alex: im happy for you simon, you always said you wanted to get married, and its finally happening. You achieved your dreams, and i am so proud

Simon: thank you Alex, it means a lot to me. I miss you everyday you know, i miss us. I miss the way we used to be best friends and how we'd see each other everyday without fail

Alex: me too simon, but sometimes, things aren't meant to be

Simon: i guess you're right

Alex: how is the bride anyway? Is she feeling okay?

Simon: she's fine. She took the news well actually, you know, about me being a father. of course i expect nothing of her, she doesn't need to do anything for Nathan or any of that so she's happy, i'm happy, you're happy...i hope?

Alex: i've never been more happy i'm just glad to see you happy and nathan happy; My two favourite boys.

Simon: i hope you know that i still love you
messaged deleted.

Alex: i have to be off anyway Simon, I'm going to get an early nights sleep

Simon: goodnight Alex x

Alex: goodnight Simon x
