Kathleen couldn't believe it. The person whom she had believed and accepted long ago who supposedly disappeared, was now standing before her very eyes. Alive and kicking. And in perfect condition.

Wylan's golden eyes looked at her with worry and a hint of regret. Both mouths were opened, but no words came out. Kathleen thoughts were mixed up. She didn't know how to feel about the situation, either - and that did not help her at all.

Kathleen thought of all the possible reasons why Wylan was here and why he left school without telling her. She didn't know what to felt. She felt joy at seeing her old friend back and alive, but felt sad that she was lied to; she felt angry because Wylan never told her.

She knew that Wylan wouldn't want herself to know since he knew that she would try to stop him. She knew that very well, but she still couldn't help but get angry. She mentally cursed herself for her insecurity.

The deafening silence continued on for what seemed like hours.

Rebecca coughed awkwardly. "Um, I hate to be rude but, do you know each other?"

Kathleen broke her eyes away from Wylan's golden ones and looked away. "I guess you could say that we 'knew' each other..."

"Oh..so you knew each other?" Rebecca asked. Wylan looked at Katheen tentatively and tried to catch her eyes. Kathleen only looked away. She failed to see Wylan's regretful face as she looked away.

The tension between the two was painfully obvious that it was almost suffocating.

'I'm being selfish. This is not good for Spades' relationship with the Diamonds...or for my relationship with Wylan, what ever kind of relationship it may be..' Kathleen thought. She mentally slapped herself.

Kathleen turned back to Wylan and put on a half-hearted smile. "I see you've grown, Wylan."

Wylan looked at Kathleen nervously and replied, "Yes, I have indeed grown...I see that you have grown too," Wylan swallowed a gulp of air.

Wylan looked at Rebecca and asked in a quiet, shaky tone, "May I speak to Kathleen privately?" Rebecca, sensing the tension in the atmosphere, nodded carefully.

Rebecca then ushered Jonathan away from Wylan and Kathleen, insisting that they meet the other royals. Jonathan, completely clueless as he was air-headed, simply let Rebecca lead him away from the tense duo.

Once the other two were out of earshot, Wylan turned to Kathleen. He noticed her fists clenched tightly as she glared at the ground.

Wylan opened his mouth to speak.

"I suppose you would want an explanation about everything, right?"

Kathleen's ears pricked up and she looked up, her eyes expecting a fully reasonable explanation for everything she did not know.

Wylan breathed a sigh and started to explain everything.

By the end of his explanation, he breathed out a sigh and said:

"I hope you understand my circumstances - I didn't mean to lie to you. I had to go back to the Kingdom of Diamonds because of the colour of my eyes. In Diamonds, if you have been born with golden eyes, it means that you are to be a royal. I left Spades and everything else including you," Wylan looked at Kathleen with a small twinkle in his eye but quickly looked down in guilt, "But I knew I would see you again when the time comes. So I worked hard to become a good royal for the kingdom, so that I could see you again...But did not expect for us to meet this way. I never thought of the possibility of you being chosen as a future royal."

Kathleen furrowed her eyebrows and hung her head in frustration.

"I don't expect you to forgive me, either. You can forgive me, or not forgive me. Either way is completely fine to me." Wylan muttered, loud enough for Kathleen to hear it.

Her ego seemed to whisper harshly behind her ear, as if taunting her. And to be honest, Kathleen felt terrified of making this decision.

Slowly, she opened her mouth and the words came out:

"It's okay."

Kathleen's ego scoffed. Hah! What a pitiful lie. You just don't want to hurt his feelings or push him away like you did with Crystal, don't you? Her ego taunted her with painful memories from the past. 'Would you please shut up?!' Kathleen's own voice rang in her head, as if speaking to her own ego.

Are you really sure that you can just brush it all off even after his explanation, even if you are still mad at him?

'I'm not sure,' Kathleen mentally said.

Are you really sure of your decision?

'I'm not sure, okay?!' Kathleen mentally screamed.

In almost an instant after Kathleen had said her words, Wylan's grin returned in full-force. A memory of the boy whom Kathleen knew as a child called Wylan smiling at her appeared. The younger version of this boy seemed more familiar to Kathleen - the older version seemed like a stranger.

"Really?! You'll forgive me?"

Kathleen bit her lower lip and forced a smile. She didn't have anything else to say, and what else could she do?

"Yes."

She said the words that she might regret.

"Thanks, Kath! You're the best!" Wylan grinned. Kathleen looked at him as if he had grown an extra head. "What did you just call me?" Kathleen asked, her forehead scrunching at the thought of being given a nickname.

Wylan blushed and muttered, "Kath...that's my nickname for you..."

Kathleen felt a little warmth creep on her cheeks. "...oh."

Honestly, I don't know.
