Chapter 6: Symbols
"Light is the symbol of truth."
-James Russel Lowell
"I still can't believe we are actually doing this."
Seokjin's voice came out in a low groan as he ran a hand through his hair, his light eyes drifting over to watch you as you leaned over the railing of the ship, the sun catching in your h/l, h/c hair as your blue eyes watched the waves roll beneath the large vessel.
Taehyung's lips moved upward in a smile as he watched you smile like a wondrous child.
"I think she's cute." He stated.
Seokjin's hand came into harsh contact with the back of the younger man's head.
"I'm not talking about her." He scolded. "I'm talking about this whole thing. Going to the Sapphire Isles is practically asking for death...Jimin is the best sailor I know.....so why is he taking such a great risk for a few extra pounds of gold?"
The mint-haired man furrowed his eyebrows, head shaking in confusion.
"I'm sure he knows what he's doing." He said. "Jimin has never led us wrong before."
Seokjin ran a hand through his hair, a sigh leaving his parted lips as his eyes fell back onto your figure.
"I know," He started, "But I can't help but feel like this girl is going to cause us trouble. Hoseok has been acting weird ever since Jimin brought her back onto the ship."
Taehyung shrugged.
"Well, you can't blame him...after what he's been through."
Seokjin leaned back, his legs crossing as he stared at you from afar.
"I don't get it." He sighed. "Jimin knows about Hoseok..he knows about what happened...so why would he-"
"Maybe he's smarter than you believe him to be."
Jin's body shot up, his mouth hanging open as his eyes took in the sight of his friend and captain.
His hand shot up, resting over his brow as his posture straightened.
"C-Captain."
Jimin raised a brow, eyes glancing over to you before moving back to the men before him.
"Don't you have better things to do than sit and gossip?" He asked. "Or should I give you more work to do?"
Jin shook his head, eyes falling onto the wooden deck beneath him.
"S-Sorry," He stuttered. "It won't happen again."
Jimin only hummed in response before making his way over to you, a smile pulling on his features as you turned to face him.
Seokjin let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding.
A chuckle sounded from beside him.
"Did you just salute him?"
"Oh, shut up."

A soft hum left your parted lips as you walked into the captain's quarters, bare feet padding against the wooden Persian carpet that rested on the floor as you made your way across the room.
As the daylight began to drift away from the sky, you began to feel cold and chilly, the salt water mixed with the cool breeze did not help aid you in that sense. So, Jimin informed you that he kept extra blankets beneath his bed and you were welcome to use them.
You lowered yourself onto your knees, eyes peeking beneath the wooden bed frame as you searched for the soft materials you had been promised.
A sound of happiness escaped your lips as your gaze landed on the fluffy blankets, hands reaching beneath the bed and grabbing them, pulling them out from under the bed and into your arms.
You rose to your feet, gently unfolding one of the blankets and wrapping it around your shoulders.
You trudged over to the mirror that rested in the corner of the room, fingers tracing your face and pulling your hair behind your ear. You had gotten tan since arriving in The Four Kingdoms. You complexion wasn't as pale as you had become used to, in fact, this was the first time you'd seen an actual mirror in a while.
You couldn't help but smile as you pulled your hair over your shoulder, allowing your fingers to braid you h/l, h/c strands which had grown out quite a bit since you'd left home and you kind of liked it. The constant sunlight had lightened up your hair slightly, giving it a little bit of a shine and glow.
Soft hums left your lips as you hummed a nameless tune, continuing to braid your hair.
You couldn't stop your mind from wandering back to last night.
Were you really going insane?
You knew that something was circling the ship. You remembered the sweet voice that called to you and the bright blue glow that followed it.
Did you really imagine it?
No.
You couldn't have.
The melody you had heard began to pour from your mouth, your humming beginning to replicate the soft tune.
Your eyes closed in concentration as you hummed, trying desperately to remember every single detail about what you had seen the night before.
"How are you doing that?"
You let out a gasp, eyes shooting open in surprise as you jumped back, the unfamiliar voice starling you.
Your eyes searched around the room as you searched for the source of the voice.
"H-Hello?"
You frowned when no one was in sight.
You know you didn't imagine that.
"Wh-Who are you?" You asked. "What do you want from me?!"
"C-Calm down!" The sweet voice inside your head. "I'm not going to hurt you!"
Your eyes widened, hands covering your ears as you stumbled backwards.
"You-You're in my head!" You yelled, "Why are you in my head!"
"Stop panicking!" He said. "I can explain everything!"
Your brows furrowed as you shook your head.
"Who are you?" You gasped.
A few moments of silence passed before you received an answer.
"Look into the mirror."
You frowned in confusion, swallowing hard as you hesitantly turned your head, eyes scanning over the room until they landed on your reflection in the mirror.
You slowly stood up, raising to your feet as you approached the reflective glass.
You honestly couldn't believe you were listening to this man-this thing.
It was almost as though your body moved on it's own...you didn't know why, but something inside of you was telling you to trust the voice in your head.
You squinted your eyes as you stared at yourself.
"I must be going crazy." You sighed. "I don't see anything."
"Close your eyes."
You frowned.
"But you just said-"
"Close them."
A huff of frustration left your mouth as you fluttered your eyelids closed, crossing your arms over your chest.
Why were you even listening to this....man? Thing?
If you had been in your right mind, you would have run away or attacked something....Why were you suddenly so obedient?
"Okay," The voice breathed. "You can open your eyes."
Slowly, your eyes fluttered open, lashes dragging against your skin as your gaze landed upon a familiar face that now stood in front of the mirror-No. Not in front of....inside.
He was inside the mirror?
You took a few uneasy steps backwards, hand moving to rest over your mouth.
Jungkook watched you from behind the glass, his eyes filled with wonder as he took in your appearance.
His eyes lingered on your face for a while before traveling down to explore the expanse of your neck and the curves of your body.
His bright blue eyes seemed to glow beneath the dim candlelight of the cabin as he watched you examine him closely.
His hair was no longer short and trimmed as it was in the previous world. Now, his thick, wavy locks hung beneath his ears, stopping just above his neck. It was long enough to pull back into some kind of miniature pony tail, but not long enough to pile on top of his head.
The color struck you as a bit odd, usually is hair was some shade of light brown, but now it was as black as ink.
Your eyes roamed over his shirtless body, brows furrowing at the strange tattoo that was printed upon his skin.
The markings started at the tip of his ring finger, circling around the digit before continuing to wrap around his arm and eventually end directly over his heart.
At first glance, the marking were completely unfamiliar to you, your mind wasn't able to make sense of the strange symbols that tattered his skin..
But the longer you stared at it, the symbols seemed to shift on his skin.
You blinked in surprise, rubbing your eyes in an effort to make sure you weren't imagining things right now.
The symbols continued to move until familiar markings replaced them.
Music notes?
Your eyes slowly rose to meet Jungkook's. You could tell by his expression that he had been watching you closely and examining your every move.
"Do-Do you see them?" He breathed out, hand moving to rest on the glass.
You opened your mouth to speak, but the sound of the door flinging open managed to snag the words in your throat.
Hoseok's face contorted to a scowl as he took in your presence, brows lowering in a silent hatred for you.
You swallowed, turning to look back at the mirror in panic.
Jungkook was gone.
You cleared your throat, running a hand through your hair.
"I found the blankets."
Hoseok raised an eyebrow as you sped past him, slamming the door shut behind you as you ran onto the deck.
The mute man slowly moved his gaze towards the mirror you had been staring at...Uneasiness filling his being...
And fear flooding his mind.
