Mission: Impossible (7)
Second slowly opened his eyes, feeling groggy and disoriented. His eyelids felt like they were glued shut as he forced them open. He sat up in the unfamiliar bed with a groan, stretching his arms high above his head. The marathon of walking and running the day before had left his muscles stiff and protesting.
He rubbed his eyes, trying to clear the lingering sleep, and combed his fingers through his long, messy hair as he stumbled out of the room. The sweet smell of warm food caught his attention as he walked to what he believed to be the kitchen, hoping for a good breakfast. Green, his new ally in this whole mess, was plating a stack of fluffy pancakes, drizzling them with syrup and adding dollops of whipped cream. To top it off, he was singing and dancing, twirling around the kitchen with the grace of a seasoned performer.
The sight was so captivating that Second just stood there, mesmerized by the performance. He didn't know Green was actually this good!
Green finished his impromptu routine by spinning on his heel, two forks and knives clutched in his hands. With a flick of his wrists, he sent the cutlery flying through the air, landing with satisfying clicks beside the plates on the table then strikes a final pose.
"Ta-da!". He announced, bowing dramatically as if facing a cheering audience. Startled, Second blinked, then burst into applause, the unexpected applause takes Green by surprise as he turned around.
"Bravo! Encore! I give you a ten out of ten!". Green froze, his face turning the same shade as the cherries on top of the pancakes. He snatched a nearby kitchen towel and tossed it at Second, who just laughed harder.
"Amazing, Green! Seriously, where'd you learn to move like that?". He asked with sincere curiosity, though Green didn't appreciate Second sneaking up to him.
"Why didn't you say something, stupid?!". Green sputtered, his cheeks still flushed and Second just rolled his eyes, forgetting how flustered Green could get.
"Okay, good morning to you too, I guess". He replied, his voice thick with sarcasm. Second's eyes then landed on the food in front of him and didn't realized how hungry he was until he heared his stomach announced its emptiness with a loud growl that made both Green and Second chuckle lightly.
"So, can a starving man get something to eat, or are you planning a dance marathon?". He asks, grinning. Green just sigh then rolls his eyes and responds with equal sarcasm.
"You may have a seat, your highness". Second chuckled and took the seat across from Green. They dug into the delicious breakfast, a temporary calm settling over them. It was a long, five minutes of silence with Second seeming to enjoy every bite of his pancakes, then for some reason glanced up to find Green staring intently at his plate, his earlier embarrassment still lingering. So, Second decided to ask about their plan to get the information they need.
"So... about meeting your friend, when are we heading out?". Second began casually. Green's head shot up, his eyes wide as he laughed nervously, taking a large bite of pancake, stuffing it all at once and looking away.
"Ah, about that…it might take a while". He murmered under his breath, making Second narrow his eyes, suspicion creeping into his voice.
"Why? And who exactly is this friend, anyway? You've been awfully vague about all this". Second commented on the matter with his eyes fixed on Green who seemed more and more nervous as he explained.
"Remember when I said I knew someone who could give us the information we need?". Second nodded, his curiosity piqued then Green continued, leaning closer.
"W-Well, this someone… might be…the prince of the Artemis kingdom...?". He finished with a nervous chuckle in the end while fiddling with his fingers. Unexpectedly, Second almost choked on his food at hearing the word 'prince' and started coughing hard, sputtering and gasping. Green quickly jumped up, concern etched on his face, grabbing the cup of orange juice and practically forcing it into Second's hand.
"Here, drink this!". Second nodded a thank you to Green and shakely drink it slowly, feeling a lot more better as he placed the cup on the table and breathed deeply. The two remained in silence for a moment, and Second seemed so calm and relaxed, till he finally gave Green a deadly glare and snapped at him.
"The prince of the Artemis kingdom? Of all the people?! Seriously, Green?!".
"It's fine, he's really chill, you know. No need to get so worked up or anything!".
"Um, hello? Secret mission? Asking the prince for help? That's not 'fine', that's reckless!". Second whisper-shouted, his frustration growing at how ignorant Green was being right now.
"I know, I know, it does sounds... a little bit risky. But I know him, and I can convince him to help, honest!". Second raised a skeptical eyebrow, still doubtful about this whole thing. Green, however, seemed completely sure of himself and remind those look that were full of confidence. So, Second did nothing else but sigh in defeat.
"Finne! But, which prince are we talking about here?". Second interrogate, and Green smiled widely from ear to ear, happy that Second finally agreed on his plan.
"Oh, it's Prince Purple!". Second was even more shocked and choked again but this time on the juice at hearing Purple's name. Green quickly patted his back, trying to calm him down as confusion crept up to his head, not understanding what was the problem this time.
"What is it this time?".
"Prince Purple?! He's the weirdest, coldest person I've ever met in my life!". Second practically screeched, seeming a bit dramatic at this point.
"That's not true. Purple is actually a lot of fun. Sure, he can be a bit…intense. B-But he usually only does this to annoying people, and-". But Green was cut off when he heard Second grumble and covered his face.
"Green, when I say 'met', I mean we got into a fight at his brother's birthday party that pretty much ruined the entire event". Second interrupted, his face a mask of mortification. Green stared at him, his mouth hanging open, clearly hadn't expected this.
"You…fought with Purple?". Second winced, remembering that horrible day when everything turned upside down and it almost seemed as if a war had broken out there.
"It was a long time ago, okay? I was a kid. I didn't know any better. I just…tried to be his friend, I guess. He didn't seem like the chatty type, but I was little, so I didn't really get the hint...".
"You tried to befriend him, and it ended…badly?". Green clarified, still struggling to process this new information, because this didn't exactly sounded like the Purple he knew. Second buried his face in his hands and continued,
"Let's just say there were tears, a ruined birthday cake, and my brothers had to drag me out while I screamed apologies... Ugh, the worst part is, I don't even remember what we were fighting about!".
"Okay, well…it was a long time ago, right? He probably forgotten all about it by now". Green was silent for a moment, absorbing this bombshell, but Second shook his head, unconvinced.
"What if he hasn't? What if he refuses to help? What if he tells my brothers where I am? This whole thing could blow up in our faces!". Green placed a reassuring hand on Second's shoulder, his expression softening at seeing how stressful he was. And he couldn't blame him! Everyone is horrified of Purple when they first meet him.
"Listen, I know this sounds crazy. And believe me, if there was another way, we'd take it. But Purple is our best shot at finding out what's behind these attacks, remember? And besides, I have a good feeling about this. I think you'll be surprised!".
Second looked at Green's infectious optimism, and although he was still unsure, a flicker of calmness and confident started to bloom within him. He sighed, nodding in resignation. Green was right; at this point, they had nothing to lose. Plus, from the way Green was talking about Purple as if he was his closet friend, Second came to the conclusion that he might known Purple for a long time, so perhaps there was a chance.
"Alright, fine. Let's go meet this…Prince Purple".
(Hello everyone!! I'm just so excited to finally add Purple.
In case you didn't know, I love Purple a lot and I think he's the most traumatized stick figure of them all, of course after King Orange.
For some unknown reason I made Green get flustered easily just like me. I don't know what to do or say when ppl compliment me, my ears literally turn red which is beyond embarrassing, I tell you!
And for all those who love Green and Purple then the next chapter is definitely for you so have fun reading it, because personally it's one of my favorite chapters!).
