PROLOGUE

"Hey looks like you're awake," A voice announces near my ear.

A sharp pain lances through my head, making me see red spots behind my closed eyelids.

"Take it easy. It's alright." A voice, gently and calming, instructs.

My whole body aches like I had been beaten within an inch of my life.

I raise an arm to touch my head, and my fingers trace what feels like gauze.

Slowly, I inch my eyes open and immediately regret it as a dazzling light blinds me, making my eyes tear up.

"Ngh..." I whimper; a gentle yet firm hand grips my wrist.

"Your vitals are all normal, Mr...."

My eyes fall on a lean man hovering over me. His calm countenance and salt pepper hair make me feel a bit relieved.

"I'm Doctor Smith. A fisherman found you on the beach, washed ashore. He is the one who brought you to us. Frankly, it is a miracle that you are alive at all. By the time I got to you, you had already stopped breathing, but just as I was about to declare your time of death, your heart started beating again. You are lucky, I must say. It's like someone is watching over you." The man in white informs and looks at the file in his hand. "Since we didn't find anything on you that reveals your identity, could you please tell us your name?" He asks with a comforting smile on his face.

"Ah, thank you, Doctor... My...my name is-" I mutter. "My name? What is my name? I can't remember! I can't remember my name! What is it!? I- can't- don't-" I trail off, clutching my chest.

I shoot up from where I was lying down and clasp my head. Pain surges through me, and I yell in frustration. Why the hell can't I remember? What on earth is my name?

My head begins to throb. The last thing I remember is wincing at the pain of a prick on my forearm and the doctor's concerned grey eyes which meet mine as dark oblivion embraces me.

Who am I?
