MISSION 4: They Call Me Oatmeal

I can see why someone would find this relaxing. After a while, it is as if your feelings gets numb. Your thoughts flee your mind, leaving you with the type of silence that gives you the type of calm you need in life.

For a good minute or two I even forget about Aiden. The wind is caressing my hands and neck, leaving a stinging sensation of coldness. Not that I am going to admit it if Loudmouth asks, but his body temperature is keeping me warm.

He slows down the speed, and stops right in front of a hill. I feel sad when I give him his helmet back. It was fun while it lasted.

"Thank you for the ride." He nods. Barely lifting the corners of his lips. Knowing I'll feel weird if I leave without saying anything, I decide to wave at him. "Bye."

Stepping away from Loudmouth I know that this has been the best night in my life. Not because I was at a party, but because I somehow felt like I was making my own choices tonight. No one made me do anything. A feeling I wasn't even aware of that I was needing so badly.

He speaks up when I least expect it: "It's dangerous up there, ya know?" I'm not stupid. Although I might look stupid, I am not. His plan is working perfectly. Smooth.

To him my reply, hopefully, might come off as well thought out and calm, but inside I'm exploding, feeling like I'm losing control, seen as how I don't feel comfortable saying this: "Too bad I don't have anyone to follow me home."

Thankfully without even questioning my lame reply he catches the bait. He takes off his helmet. It hangs crookedly on the steer. Loudmouth looks too confident. I sure hope he doesn't say anything funny now, because that'd be weird. But then again what else could be worse than my reply?

"Consider yourself lucky, because my parents always told me to follow my dreams." Oh no. I take that back. This is way worse than what I said. "Gotta follow you home then."

Trying to cover up the fact that I'm cringing so hard right now, I give him a toothless smile.

I wait for him to walk next to me. We walk in silence for a couple of seconds. Both of us are probably thinking the same, judging off on how slow we are walking.

"Do you live here in the area?" Obviously he doesn't, or else I would have seen him around, but I'd rather have him answer a lame question, than walk side by side not speaking to each other.

Loudmouth hesitates for a second. "Now I do." He smiles. At least he tries to not kill the conversation.

Maybe it's the blinking stars, or maybe the impatient grasshoppers, which are letting me know they are nearby ever third second. It can be the cause of many things, really, but what I am thinking is that this moment is delightful in so many ways. The way he just said the words, with tenderness detectable in his undertone, sets the mood to soften up to each other.

"Maybe I'll see you around then?"

"Trust me, I'm not a person you want to see more than once."

My eyebrow arches straight away. "Really? Why is that?"

"I'm boring", he explains, causing bubbles of laughter to find their way out of my mouth. For a second he looks offended.

"I am the definition of boring."

Loudmouth shakes his head. "Nah, how many girls have come up to me and given me the most random fact I've ever heard?"

"None?" Maybe, just maybe I sound hopeful.

"Well, let's see, there was Lindsay, Saf, Diana, Summer", he stops in his tracks, looks at me, winks, and continues "– or wait, Winter? Can't really remember the name. Anyways Malika-"

Not wanting to hear his over the top long list, I cut him off: "Okay, okay. I get it."

Once again he flashes a smile. "Nah, I'm honestly just messing with you". When I don't reply, he casually adds. "You took my random fact virginity." Obviously both of us let out a huge laughter after his random statement.

Any normal girl would have been followed to the door, seen as I am not your typical girl, he ends up following me to my bedroom window. It's standing open, just like Dani and I planned it. However, the problem is that I am not capable of reaching it by myself.

"Do you need a hand?"

"I might be heavy."

"Nonsense." Loudmouth rolls up his sleeves, takes a few steps back until he hits the wall. Holding out both of his hands he looks from me to his hand. Taking a few breaths I take off my shoes. In the next moment I've already thrown them in through the window. I place one foot in his palm. It takes us only one attempt to get it right. Before I know the word of it, I am inside of my bedroom.

I take of my jacket and throw myself on my bed. I casually lay there listening and letting the my body relax for a bit. Luckily I'm not hearing any noises coming from the house. Meaning that my siblings are asleep.

"Eh, I'm still here."

When I hear the faint whisper, I realize that I didn't say bye to Loudmouth. "Shit", I curse, and run towards my window.

"Thank you." Somehow I can't stop laughing. "Really. Thank you."

"No problem." With a sinking heart I reach for window handle. "Can I ask you something?"

"Yes." I almost sound too desperate.

"Can I get your phone number?" Loudmouth, are you being real here? I play it off as if it is a hard decision to make.

"I don't know. It depends."

Did I just see his face fall? I don't hope I am only imagining these things. "On what?"

"I have to know your name first." I can't be imagining this. He really lets out a sigh of relief.

"Theodore." What a handsome name. Gosh, he really fits it.

Don't be stupid, how can someone fit a certain name. Doesn't even make sense.

"And yours?"

"Avena."

Theodore's eyes are glistening in the dark. When he whispers he causes my heart to skip a beat, but on a second thought I think he whispered "oatmeal", so I'm not sure how I should react.

However, a good old: "What?" is a nice reaction.

"Nothing. Good night, Avena."

Even after when he leaves I can't get over the way my name rolled off of his tongue. As if he has been saying it for years. Said with other words; a good night's sleep like this is something I haven't had in a long time.

Sorry. I blame it all on school - don't even have time for myself. It's 5 in the morning where I live, and I've been up all night to write this chapter. Hope you liked it.
