Missing You
Law looked at the Snail Phone sat in front of him on the desk. It was sleeping at present, the straw hat that was balanced on top of its eyes moving up and down slowly. He drummed his fingers nervously on the wooden surface, the different letters tattooed on his fingers jumping up into his line of vision at random intervals. His silver eyes were cast downwards and he was biting his lip unconsciously.
"Come on... You can do this," he told himself firmly, straightening his back and taking a deep breath in.
Slowly, he picked up the receiver and pressed the dial button.
On the Thousand Sunny, the loud laughter of Luffy could be heard floating into the clear blue sky above. Currently, he was tearing around the deck in pursuit of Chopper who was giggling happily as he continuously jumped out of Luffy's grasping arms.
"Could you two knock it off?!" Nami barked, the thundering footsteps of Luffy making her quill shake as she tried to draw her map.
"Sorry!" Luffy snickered, skidding to a halt as he flopped back on the grass, panting heavily.
In the kitchen, Sanji was sauteing some vegetables in a pan, preparing the crew's lunch. Suddenly, a pair of arms wound themselves around his waist and he felt a nose nuzzle the crook of his neck.
"What do you want, swordsman?" Sanji asked, not taking his eyes away from his work.
"How much longer is lunch gonna be?" Zoro asked, his voice muffled slightly by Sanji's shirt.
"It'll come a lot quicker if you let me work in peace,"
Zoro then lifted Sanji into the air, spinning him around and smiling when the blonde-haired cook yelled out in shock and annoyance.
"Put me down, you shitty swordsman!!" he yelled, trying to wriggle out of Zoro's grip.
Zoro tightened his arms and spun faster, but came to a halt when there was a ringing from one of the Snail Phones. He put Sanji down, who walked over to the line of phones to see which one was ringing. When he saw the snail with the spotted fluffy hat awake and ringing, a smile flitted across his thin lips.
Thwacking Zoro affectionately on the nose with his spatula as he walked past, he opened the door onto the deck.
"Luffy!" he called down.
Luffy's wide eyes looked up curiously from where he still lay on the grassed deck.
"Oh, Sanji! Is the food done?" he inquired, his mouth starting to water.
"You've got a phone call. It's from him," Sanji smiled, gesturing to the ringing phone with his thumb.
Luffy sat bolt upright immediately and a huge grin spread across his face. He scrambled to his feet and ran up the stairs faster than usual. Racing past Sanji and not even noticing Zoro stood in the kitchen area, he fumbled for the receiver of the familiar Snail Phone and clicked the button.
"Hello! This is Monkey D. Luffy, the man who'll be King of the Pirates!" he called loudly down the receiver.
On the other end of the phone, Law, who had been lying his face near to the mouth of the snail, perked up when he heard Luffy's voice calling out that familiar greeting. Law smiled without even realising and he sat up, leaning his hand on his chin.
"I know you will. Hey, Straw Hatter," Law greeted.
"Traffy! It's been so long!! I've got so much to tell you!" Luffy said enthusiastically, his eyes sparkling as he bounced about on the balls of his feet after hearing Law's voice buzzing from the snail's mouth.
"I can't wait to hear it," Law smirked, settling down to hear Luffy's story.
Luffy then began telling Law all about the adventures he had been on in the past couple of months since they separated. But Law was only half-listening... He was concentrating on Luffy's voice. The way it fluctuated and the way his laughter interjected at random intervals made Law's heart swell with happiness.
They could only call very rarely in case the Marines were listening, so Law savoured every word Luffy spoke. After all, it could be even longer before they would be able to talk again. He traced the lines of the table as Luffy spoke, allowing the small captain to wear himself out.
On the Sunny side of the phone, Luffy continued to talk for what seemed like hours. He had pulled up a chair and was swinging back and forth on it as he spoke, laughing slightly whenever Law interjected a comment about his irresponsible behavior or how stupid he was.
Sanji had finished preparing lunch, despite the distractions caused by the green-haired swordsman, but he didn't make Luffy get off the phone. He knew all too well how important and rare these calls were to the two captains. Instead, he slid Luffy's lunch over to him and took everyone else's outside, telling them all to stay out of the kitchen area for a while.
Luffy soon finished his story, but something was wrong. Law was a quiet individual to begin with, but even for him, this lack of conversation was unnatural.
"Traffy?" Luffy called.
Law sat up at the call of his name. There were tears in his eyes and he was biting his lip again.
"Is everything alright? You're talking even less than usual,"
"Yeah, everything's fine..."
"Why are you lying to me?"
Law's eyes widened. He gripped the receiver a little tighter and he lowered his head so that the brim of his hat covered his eyes. He shook slightly and his eyebrows were furrowed as he tried so hard to fight back his tears.
"I'm not. Nothing's wrong," Law tried to tell him in a steady voice, but his voice trailed off towards the end.
The sadness hit him like a wave as he broke down, no longer able to hold back his emotions in front of Luffy. He began to cry, whimpering into the receiver as he lay his head on his arms, shaking violently.
"Traffy, you're crying!!" Luffy gasped.
He stood up abruptly, gripping the receiver with both of his hands. He leaned towards the Snail Phone intently, wanting to jump through the phone and comfort Law. He wanted to wrap his arms around his body and hold him... Hold him until his sadness went away, no matter how long it took.
"I-I... I just miss you so much, Luffy," Law cried, trying to talk properly through his tears.
"W-what are you saying, Traffy?"
"I miss you! I miss your stupid voice, your stupid hair, your stupid scars... Your stupid everything! The way you used to creep up behind me and jump on me, the way you used to fall asleep on my lap whenever I was working on paperwork, I miss it all. I'm so worried, Luffy... I have nightmares. Nightmares about opening the paper and seeing a headline with your wanted poster underneath it announcing your death. I wake up and look down but you're not there... I love you and I want you back so badly and I'm so worried that something's going to happen-"
"STOP IT!!"
Luffy was panting slightly at this sudden yell and there were sweat drops trickling down his face. He swallowed hard and tried to shake himself back into a calm frame of mind.
"I'm not going to die Traffy, you hear me? I made a promise to you! The day our two crews parted ways I promised you we'd see each other again. It's hard, I know... I miss you too. More than I miss anyone else we've met along the way, that's for sure, but we have to keep going. The sooner we realise our goals, the sooner we can be reunited. Trust me, Traffy, when we meet again, I'll be King!" Luffy said, smiling broadly.
Law looked up at the receiver he was still grasping tightly in his hand. The Snail Phone was smiling broadly and Law could hear Luffy's distinctive laugh. His tears seemed to stop and he found himself smiling to himself.
"You're right. I was being stupid. But, hey, Luffy? Promise me you won't do anything stupid?"
"That's a promise I'm afraid I can't make, Traffy~! Your definition of stupid is my definition of fun!"
"Why you-! This is why I worry about you, you damn brat! You're always running off and jumping off cliffs and falling in water and being chased by wild bears and-"
Luffy wasn't listening. He was leaning back in his chair once more and was fighting back his laughs as Law's Snail Phone was shouting angrily with furrowed eyebrows. This was the Law he knew and loved... Always worried about him and constantly lecturing him about every little thing he did. He hugged the receiver tightly, blushing slightly as he pictured himself hugging the real life Law.
The two spoke for a little while longer before it was time to hang up.
"Remember what I said, Straw Hatter," Law said somewhat sternly.
"I know! I promise I'll try to behave! Love you, Traffy~!" Luffy trilled planting a kiss on the receiver.
"I love you too, idiot," Law muttered, blushing slightly.
Reluctantly, they both clicked the receiver back into place with a smile.
"I miss you," they both said in union, looking up at the ceiling and hoping the other could sense their feelings.

This continued for the following two years, the occasional but precious phone calls. Both captains kept pictures of the other in their rooms and Law kept every newspaper snippet about Luffy, forming a collage in his office. Whenever he was feeling low or tired, all he would have to do was look up at Luffy's smiling face looking back at him and he was filled with such a happiness what was impossible to describe.
And then came the day...
The Thousand Sunny pulled into the dock of a friendly town, filled with quaint houses and shops that made the town practically radiate with warmth in the light of the setting Sun.
Luffy sat on Sunny's head, aged 21, yet never changing from when he had set out on his journey four years ago. He jumped off the mast head and straight onto the rocky floor of the dock, his long black coat with its golden lining billowing all around him as he did so.
He straightened up as the rest of the crew jumped down with him.
"Well, here we are!" Luffy snickered, putting his hands on his hips as he analysed the town.
Suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Hm? What is it?" Luffy inquired, turning around to see that Nami had been the one to tap him.
She was smiling broadly and pointed to the other end of the dock. Luffy followed her gaze, but his eyes widened when he saw who was stood there.
He had not changed much in their two years of absence, but his hair had grown slightly shaggier from what Luffy could tell under his ever present fluffy hat. He was slightly taller and still carried his familiar sword... Still the same person Luffy had fallen in love with four years ago.
Filled with an overwhelming sense of happiness, Luffy shrugged his heavy black coat from off his shoulders and began running towards Law. His feet slammed into the ground without once slowing and he was running even faster than he would if Law was phoning him on the Snail Phone.
He couldn't stop smiling as Law began to grow closer and closer.
Still a small distance away from him, Luffy launched himself on Law and grasped him in his arms. He wrapped his legs around Law and buried his face into Law's shoulder. In return, Law grasped his arms around Luffy's small waist, just as happy to see him as he was. He squeezed Luffy tightly and span around on the spot, crying with happiness whilst laughing slightly at the same time.
"Hey, loser," Law said, inhaling that scent he had missed so much.
"I'm so happy to see you!!" Luffy wept, smiling through his tears.
Luffy pulled back so that he could see Law's face. The orange light danced across the parts of Law's face that were not shadowed by Luffy's obstruction, clearly highlighting the areas of his face that had matured during their two years apart. His silver eyes continued to sparkle with that subtle shine that they had done and Luffy could see himself reflected back in the clear glaze of tears that were pricking the corners of Law's eyes. He ran his hand through the back of Law's now thick locks and lost his hand in his waves of jet black tresses.
Law was drawn into the now mature face of the young captain. His face had become slightly more defined so that the shadows played with his appearance whenever his hair flopped across his face. Those eyes that Law could stare at for hours were still wide as ever and Law reached out and stroked his small scar, smiling at its feeling beneath his fingers.
"You did it, Luffy... You realised your dream," Law smiled.
"I also kept our promise! I told you we'd see each other again!" Luffy laughed.
"And now we can be together again... Like before?" Law asked timidly.
"Of course," Luffy reassured, grabbing Law's chin and making him look into his face.
He planted his lips upon Law's and their mixture of lips became more intimate.
Cheers and claps could be heard from both the Heart Pirates and the Straw Hats as they felt the joy their two captains were now experiencing. Reveling in the euphoria that now seemed to grace the area, Sanji turned around to face Zoro. He stood up on his tiptoes and planted a kiss on the swordsman's lips. They both smiled at one another before turning back to look at their captain, hands intertwining with one another.
The passion that had been locked away for two whole years came pouring out in the form of the kiss between these two lovers. They smiled into the kiss as they gently bit each others lips and brushed over each others tongues, wanting more than anything at that present moment to merge into one being to be together forever.
The King and his prince... Reunited at last.
