Chapter 11
Carlisle's POV
“Carlisle, maybe you were too late,” Jacob suggested furiously on the second day that Bella was 'asleep' as I called it.
I understood why Jacob would be angry. I steal the woman he loves from Edward and him, but I didn't plan this. Alice told me that Jacob will get over his hostilitly towards me in time. We both knew that he would, but with Charlie against me, Edward hating me, Esme leaving forever just because she can't stand to see Bella and I together, and now Jacob and the wolf pack hating me because I got Bella pregnant and stole Jacob's love; I was at the end of my ropes.
All I could do was hope that once Bella woke up, everything would be back to normal. Edward would still hate me, Esme wouldn't ever come around, but maybe Jacob, Charlie, and the wolf pack might. At least I still had Alice, Jasper, Rosalie, and Emmett, so it wasn't a total loss.
The last thing I wanted to do was give up on Bella, and have her oldest friend give up. I shook my head, never taking my eyes off of my daughter, who was sleeping in my arms. Though I had held my boy before, I spent most of the time holding my daughter because she looks almost idenical to Bella with the exception of her hair. It was golden blonde like mine. She and her brother were two days old, but they looked like they were two or three months old instead. It was unusual.
“Jacob, we dont' know how long she will be asleep. We have to have faith,” I told him, looking him in the eye for a minute. His eyes betrayed his heart. His eyes were full of heartbreak and saddness. I had a hard time looking at him, so it's easy to see how annoyed and pained Jasper has looked these past couple of days. “Come here.”
He stayed where he was. “You dont' want to face the truth. It's been two days, Carlisle.” Jacob half shouted. He was silent for a minute, then added, “You killed her.” He voice was hard to listen to with the break in it.
“Come over here, Jacob.”
He slowly made his way over to me and my daughter. Her eyes were just opening, and Jacob was furious. Although, his anger melted away when he saw her. He sank to his knees with an odd, adoring look on his face. I knew what just happened and was happy because I knew my daughter has someone amazing to protect her, but I knew Bella wouldn't like it.
It was odd hearing three heartbeats instead of one. Then, just when I was getting used to it, one stopped. I knew what it was, as well as Alice and Rosalie who were in the room watching my boy, gently playing with him. Alice looked at me and smirked. Rose raised her eyebrows. Then Emmett walked it, a bright grin all over his face. Jasper glided in the living room last, a small smile forming on his lips.
“She's awake.”
I practically ran up the stairs to Bella. I couldn't wait to talk to her, to hold her, to kiss her. Mostly, I couldn't wait to see how she did in this new life. When I got there, she was just looking around, ajusting her eyes. She looked even more beautiful as a vampire than a human. If I had a heart, it would've skipped several beats seeing Bella.
“Bella,” I whispered.
Her head whipped to me. Her rosy lips parted in a huge grin, and I couldn't help smiling also. I took her outstretched hand and lead her to the mirror. We looked so similar now. She ran her eyes over our reflections and turned to me. Her grin never faultered when she kissed me.
“Incredible.” She muttered. Then she turned to me. “The babies?”
Her eyes were of love for her babies like a new mother, but also she was a newborn just like her babies, though in a different sense. Her eyes were dark red, soon to turn to bronze.
“They're fine.” I reassured her. I lead her to the open window and waited for her to jump out. She looked like she was going to go find her babies, but I held her back. “Thirst first. Let's get you under control before you see the babies.”
She sighed and jumped out the window, followed by me. I thought about how long she may have to stay away from the babies before her thirst is completely under control. How much she'll miss. It hurt me.
We stopped by some rocks about ten miles from the house and 20 ft from a doe grazing. Bella's eyes grew wide as she smelt the blood. Then a cougar walked along the top of a nearby rock. It slid along silently, ready to pounce. I was about to mention to Bella to hurry up, but she beat me too it. She jumped the cougar as it pounced for the doe. I never expected that.
As we walked back to the house, I decided to mention to her what had ot be done. “We never talked about names you know. Can you believe it?”
She looked at me with a gleam in her eye. Then laughed as she thought back. “How about Carlisle Edmond?”
I could tell she meant it as a joke, but I thought it was great. “Great. What about our daughter?”
Bella looked at me shocked. “You actually like that?” I nodded seriously. She looked up at the sky as we continuted walking. “Edrea Geneva Cullen?”
Saying the name several time to myself, I thought it was really nice. I loved it. It was odd, but still believable, which fits the situation. I never met many Edrea's and Geneva is a name for England. “Yes, perfect.”
Jasper came out of the house with a look on his face when we came in sight. I could tell something was wrong, although he was still fairly calm, so it couldn't be that bad. I raised my eyebrows. “Charlie's here.” His southern accent sounding in my ears.
I stiffened as did Bella. I thought of the last time I saw Charlie. It was the day that I was suppose to give Bella the most amazing date of her life, but Charlie walked in the diner when he was supposed to be at home watching baseball and drinking. He was furious at me and Bella. What would he be doing here?
Holding Bella's hand tightly so she would have a harder time getting away to kill Charlie, we walked into the house. Jasper had gone ahead to help Emmett keep Charlie safe with Alice. Charlie was sitting on the couch closest to the piano laughing at a joke Alice told. Emmett was behind Charlie and the couch, his arms crossed, a serious but happy expression on his face.
Bella took a deep breath and let it out slowly. I know she smelt the blood. “You okay?” I asked, seriously. She nodded and took another breath. Then she headed in with me beside her, a smile on both our faces. Mine may have been a little more tense than Bella's, however. Bella's may have been unenthusiastically. I nodded to Charlie as we sat on the couch opposite him. He stared at our ajoined hands in disappointment and discust.
“Bella,” He greeted half happily.
“Dad,” Bella greeted equally. She glanced at me quickly. I smiled at her.
Alice got up from where she was sitting beside Charlie to stand beside Emmett, a grin forming on her lips.
“How are you Charlie?” I asked trying to break the ice.
That wasn't the best idea. Charlie's eyes went from his daughter to me with rage. Although he never acted like it. Years of being a cop must have tamed his anger. “Fine Dr. Cullen. You?” He asked in a monotone.
I chuckled. “Call me Carlisle, please.” I mentioned as happy as I could be, which wasn't that much. He looked doubtfull that he will ever call me that, but he nodded.
Alice cleared her throat and held up a sign. I read it quickly.
Just tell him about Edmond and Geneva.
Tell him you had an affair a year ago with Bella and that's why you two have children and are both single now. Trust me.
I rolled my eyes, but decided to trust Alice. I squeezed Bella's hand who had been reading the sign too. She must think Alice is a nut. I do too, but I would never tell her that in person.
“Charlie, Bella and I have something to tell you.” I said.
His face went from rage to something worse, though I don't know what's worse. “What?” He growled. If I wasn't a 350 year old vampire I would probably be scared.
Rosalie and Jacob had come back into the room, most likely on Alice's order. Charlie's anger sofened at the sight of the babies.
“Dad, meet your grandchildren.” Bella said with a sigh.
“Carlisle Edmond and Edrea Geneva Cullen. “ I went on.
Bella and I exchanged happy glances and I couldn't help kissing her. Bella was a lot more at home in this world, for an hour old vampire, she was more comfortable in her new body than even mature vampires. We watched Charlie hold each baby in turn, a bigger grin on his face each time they laughed.
“Bella and I had a two week affair a year ago. That's the reason Edward and Esme broke up with us; the real reason. She hid her pregnancy from you better than most.” I explained as Charlie started to ask something.
I hoped he wouldn't ask any questions. We couldn't answer any of them, and I hated ot lie to Charlie, but I had to trust Alice. Charlie looked at the babies again and sighed.
“They have your eyes, Bella.” He mentioned, softening up. He stayed around for an hour, his old self coming back with every minute. I wondered if it was one of the twins gift what was happening to Charlie.
Jacob had a hard time controlling his emoions for Edrea as Charlie's visit drew to a close. Jasper kept growling softly in annoyance beside Jacob, which drew the attention of Bella. She kept watching Jacob, obvious to what happened while she was asleep.
Once Charlie had gone, calmer than he'd come, Alice took Edrea just in time as Bella punched Jacob in the arm. He flinched and gritted his teeth in pain as he flexed his arm testing it.
“You imprinted.” She growled.
“Not my choice.” He gulped.
Bella knew Jacob was telling the truth, but that didn't stop her from hating the idea. I put my hand on Bella' shoulder to try to calm her down. She let out a deeper growl and stormed upstairs to my, our room.
Jacob looked at me distraught. “She hates me.”
I shook my head, motioning for him to come closer. I wrapped an arm around his shoulders and told him gently,” Not at all. It's just her anger and motherly instincts. She'll come around.”
The volturi seemed to except Bella's new status, but we all know they'd want proof. Edmond, as we all decided ot call him, and Geneva, as we decided to call her, were growing so fast. Every morning they seemed to be bigger. It seemed we werent' ready for our happy ending yet. We still had one enemy; time.
