The Sniper (pt.1)

Today's one of those days, when you think 'it's gonna be a peaceful day' but it turns out to be the exact opposite. The flashing cameras, the slapping of drenched trench coats, the continuous loud murmur caused by the "responsible" reporters is any other day in South Korea. Every celebrity's worst nightmare, to be honest. The downfall of the carefully built reputation starts on the day when there are police and reporters surrounding your house.

I am a person who enjoys tea, and I get enough. But the enjoyment is there only if it happens in someone else's life not when it's knocking on your apartment's door.

It all started when I first woke up late in the morning, I guess it was afternoon-ish type. Don't judge me, it's a weekend after all. In fact, I woke up early today. I popped my airpods in, and started jamming to Rain's 'Bad boy'. My body grooving to the music with the forever imprinted choreography in my mind. I moved around while the song's playing, drinking my morning dosage of caffeine-my fuel for the rest of the day.

I like my coffee black and bitter, it reminds me how life in general is and how I battle it everyday. I love philosophy. I love reading books. I like appreciating good things like art, food and talent. Gulping down the last sip through my BTS's photo mug, I opened my phone to check my messages and my plans for today.

I have a habit of reading short daily updates about how beautiful yet miserable the world around me is. In case you don't understand what it means, I just like reading news, gossips, rumours—to name a few.

I scroll through loads of crappy news like—a woman realises she is a man, after 10 years of a successful marriage and horoscope like—you'll get into trouble today, you might want to stay safe. Why don't they give positive horoscopes like—your single ass is going to find love today or you will find a gold coin on your way to the mall? Pessimistic peeps.

Just when I thought my day couldn't get any weirder. I see my face on the thumbnail of a news article. Wait...the hell? Why is my face on the thumbnail of this news? Choking on the imaginary water in my mouth I read the article.
Park Shin-day goes missing: last seen with a mysterious girl
When did this happen? I opened the news article with fumbling heart and trembling hands.
News article last updated: 2 minutes ago.

The article read,
Park shin-day (27), the leader and the main vocalist of popular k-pop boy band RAINBOW has been missing since yesterday. He was last seen in the Itaewon nightclub 'THE SNIPER'. Police have got no leads so far except for a timed surveillance shot where he was seen intimately holding some mysterious black haired girl, who was wearing white clothes.

According to recent reports, the police found out about the girl's whereabouts and are suspecting this girl might have something to do with the missing victim. The police are working faster than time to find Mr.Park. There are many questions unanswered. The police have no concrete evidence. We still don't know if she is a prime suspect or a witness. Here is the picture of the girl:

What did my drunk-ass do? Was I really that drunk to not remember meeting my dream idol? I freaking met Day, and I didn't even remember it. While my photo is making a tour out there, I am here scolding myself for not remembering meeting my bias. I am Un-freakin-believable. I sat on my red couch, trying to recall the events of last night.

Ji-sun—my colleague/friend—texted me yesterday about this new club in Itaewon and I remember being eager. I texted him back telling, we would have a lot of fun just like the last time, the time we spent at a nightclub in Gangnam-dong. Now it's no good reminiscing about that. Then I hurriedly, just like every Saturday put on makeup along with my party-animal vibes to rock the dance floor. I swear, it had been weeks since I unleashed my party-animal. I tamed it real good.

It had been so long, so I jumped right at the opportunity. Ji-sun came an hour later. It was 9 o'clock. I remember it because that was when my favourite pass-time/reality show, Men on earth ended. I locked my apartment. I touched up my red lipgloss in the elevator. I saw Ji-sun's car and got into it. We were talking about how hard our boss made us work throughout the week.

She was on all our asses because of the 'Deline' contract. It's a house interior contract our architectural firm—D'cor—took up. It was a high level deal, with a female led chaebol family involved. It was a big deal. If I was my boss, I would do the same with my employees. The whole week I had a very little time to myself so Ji-sun gave the club idea.

He asked his cousin—who is a bartender in the club, a favour—to pull up two passes for us both. VIP passes. I ain't got any idea about how his cousin pulled that VIP gimmick. Nah! Who cares? Free booze. We parked and went to the club. There was a pink neon sign that read 'The Sniper'. We showed our VIP passed to the security guy and he let us in with a slight bow and a smile.

As soon as I entered I could hear the thumping music. Damn! This is what I call a party. The club is gaining swing, fast. Ji-sun held my hand and took me to the bar. He thanked his cousin and asked him to give us vodka shots. I saw Ji-sun looking at me and he gave me are-you-up-for-a-shots-competition look. I returned get-ready-to-lose-sucker look. Game on! We got the shots and we asked the bartender to keep 'em coming. "Ji-sun...on three. One! Two! Three." We gulped down the first shot, the second, the third. I was on the eighth when Ji-sun was swaying on his seventh. I completed my ten and asked Ji-sun if he wanted help completing his last. "I win."

The vodka kicked into my system and I felt the need to dance. I grabbed Ji-sun's hand and danced like my life depends on it. The DJ here is really good. After it felt like an hour we both checked out the private whiskey pool. Ew! There were people swimming in it and drinking at the same time. I'd rather kiss a creep than jump into the pool. Ji-sun was ready to get into the pool. He asked me to come. "Nah! I am Kim Areum, too beautiful to be swimming there. I'll pass."

The ringing of my phone paused the play of yesterday's events.

Oh-oh! What did Areum get herself into?
What happened to Shin-day?
Is Areum behind all this?
Find out more in the next chapter. I'll accept any theories based on what might happen next or what might have happened.
