17. Risqué Photos

David, Maria and Rachel sat at the kitchen table, sharing from a central platter of meats, cheeses, breads and dried fruit while they sipped tea from mugs. Bethia came in from serving customers and joined them. "Have you figured out yet how to shoot images with the camera?"

"We've shot a roll, developed the film, and the negatives are now dry and ready to be enlarged and printed," David said. "We're delighted with the project thus far."

"So quickly? You amaze me."

"Much of it was already familiar to me – the theory and the basic practices. It was simply a matter of my learning how to use these particular devices."

"Besides being intuitive, he's also a brilliant thinker, inventive and devastatingly handsome." Maria chuckled as she looked up from her tea.

"I've no dispute with any of that," Rachel said. "When will you be ready to do my ankle images?"

"We need some broad surgical tape to replicate the support binding pattern. We left our repair and maintenance tin in the rucksacks up on the granite rib." Maria looked at Bethia. "Have you any, Tante?"

"I have a small roll of narrow strip I use when I've cut myself, though I haven't used it in a very long time."

"We need about three metres of broad," David said.

"Erzingen Apotheke is only a block along the Hauptstraße. You should find some there. They're open Mondays."

After lunch, David and Rachel went up to the room while Maria headed out to fetch the tape. "The first image Maria wants is of your ankle elevated and wrapped in a cold compress. We don't need wet or cold, simply a wrapped towel to give the illusion."

He looked around. "We can stack two cushions from the settee and rest your foot on that. You can remove your boot, lie on the floor and hoist your skirts to your knee. I'll get a towel."

She was ready when he returned from the bathroom. He wrapped her foot in the towel and adjusted the camera on the table. After tilting the lens down to centre the ankle in the viewfinder, he depressed the cable release and heard the click of the shutter. "That's that one done."

As he was removing the towel, Maria came in with the roll of tape. "Great timing. We've just finished the first one."

"You apply the tape again, David," Maria said as she handed him the roll. "You did it so well the first time,"

He unrolled a half-metre piece and tore it off, then straddling Rachel's leg, he placed its centre under her heel and extended the ends up the sides of her calf. As he was applying the first diagonal, Rachel said, "This is much less exciting than when you did it in the mountains, David, with your dangling parts swinging like pendulums in front of my face as you worked."

He chuckled. "We were still dressed for the thermal pool. We had an emergency to care for and no time to dress. That seems so long ago now. Seems so far away."

As he was completing the pattern with the third piece, Maria said, "We should take a photo of that now, just as it is. This will clearly show the diagonal pattern of the tapes. I can describe the rest of the binding we had used to maintain pressure." She stepped to the camera, turned it slightly to centre the image, advanced the film and depressed the shutter.

"That was easy," Rachel said. "Are you finished with me now?"

Maria looked at David, then at Rachel. "I think so. I can't think of any other images except the crutches and cane, and we don't need you for those."

After he had peeled the tape off Rachel's ankle and she had left, he stood the crutches against the backdrop, with the cane beside them. "We'll have difficulty being artistic with this shot."

"It doesn't have to be artistic. All I need is an illustration showing your ingenious design and crafting. Showing what's possible even in the wilderness." She advanced the film to the 3, moved the table closer, centred the image and shot.

"I should shoot some images of you next," David said. "That will quickly get the rise we need for the last image of me."

They both undressed and stood looking at each other for a short while before they merged. "You're absolutely gorgeous."

"And you're absolutely rigid. My God, what a quick response you have." They continued the hug as their hands explored. "What poses had you in mind?"

"I would love one with you standing as a goddess. A classic pose with your arms up, your hands arranging your hair and your teeth biting your lower lip as you look longingly at me."

They kissed, then unwound their hug. David moved the table back about two feet, tilted the camera lens back up to centre and advanced the film as Maria posed.

"Tilt your head a bit to your left and drop your left shoulder. Take a little more weight on your right foot to tilt your hips. Give me your longing look now. Great! Hold still." He released the shutter.

"That's the look you gave me that first night in the gasthaus. I'll never forget that." He shuddered. "You're so utterly captivating."

"And you're still so stiff. Your veins are bulging. Maybe we should do the fully peeled shot while it's up."

"With you nude here, it'll remain up and thickly veined until we do something about it. But, I guess we could now do that shot. I'll try to make it appear as if it's been circumcised."

While Maria advanced the film, David walked toward the sheet and stopped six feet from the camera, then he peeled his foreskin all the way to his pubes before taking another grip to pull the remainder of it taut. "I'll have to keep my hand here to hold the skin back."

"I was thinking of that. I can explain that I couldn't find a circumcised model." She looked closer. "Most of your bulging veins are gone."

He looked down. "They're in the foreskin and the rest of the covering skin I peeled back. They're all bunched up now. One thing we could do is crop the picture when we print it to remove my hand."

"Turn a little to your left. That'll keep your hand out of sight."

She depressed the shutter release, then looked up. "The last shot of you is soft and dangling. Should I work on getting it to that state?"

"No, let me remain turgid as I pose you in ways I wouldn't think of if I were dangling. I'm always amazed at the difference in thoughts I have when aroused and when not. So different."

Maria giggled. "So what's your aroused mind's idea for my next pose?"

"I'd love a coy shot. Get onto your hands and knees, your butt toward me. Not square on like that – turn to the right thirty or forty degrees. There. Perfect. Now, turn your head to look at me. Tilt it slightly to the right and do a little pout. Let me adjust your hair."

He stepped forward and rearranged her tresses, kissed her butt and moved back to the camera, advanced the film and centred the viewfinder. "Give me that look again. Hold it." He clicked the shot.

"That's six now. We have four left. I'd like another full size of you, one with it dangling, that leaves you three more." She smiled at him. "What would you like next?"

"Why don't you pose in what you think is your most alluring way? See whether our minds meet or differ on what is alluring."

She sat on the rug and thought while David advanced the film, tilted the lens down to centre her image and stood watching her with the shutter release cable in his hand. She leaned back on her hands, looked up at him and frowned. "I'm completely lost here, can't think of anything." She pouted, and he pressed the release.

"You shot that?"

"It was beautiful. So innocent, so wistful, so endearing."

"So lost, is what I thought." She laughed and shook her head as she sat upright, drew her legs up and wrapped her arms around her knees, tilting her head.

"Hold that pose while I advance the film. Now, give me that look again." He clicked another shot and advanced the film.

"This is my last one. Stand facing me, feet about shoulder-width apart. Good, now raise your arms toward me. Invite me. Beg me to take you. Hungrier. Great! Hold that." He released the shutter.

He stepped across to her, swept her up into his arms and carried her to the bed. "Now, to get this thing to pose, let's do another simultaneous one like we did last night. That was exquisitely exciting, giving and receiving at the same time. How did you come up with this idea?"

"Mama told me about it. It's among the many things she shared with me as her ankle was mending. It was so delightful, wasn't it?"

A delightfully long while later, she led him by his dangling leash to the spot in front of the backdrop. She advanced the film to number 10 and pulled the table back two feet, then looked into the viewfinder. "Your head is cut off."

"That's the lens tilt." He stepped across to the camera. "This knob. Pull it out and rotate it. Watch what it does." He twisted it to take the lens back to centre, then went back to the sheet.

"Stand facing me, square on, feet apart. A bit wider, I want to see you hanging against the backdrop. Great. Now, hands on your hips, fingers together and pointing toward your crotch. Open your mouth a bit and give me a hungry look ... Good." She shook her breasts at him. "That's much better." She released the shutter.

He stepped across to her, swept her off her feet and twirled her around a few turns, then they stood and hugged as their slight dizziness abated. "Let's dress and develop these, then begin printing the others. I'm excited to see what we've captured."
