9: Caught In The Act

Tracey.

I turned on the ignition, and started off towards Bianca's house. I texted her saying that I would drive her to school, so I could tell her my plan. Since she refused to answer any of my calls yesterday, this is the last chance I have to talk to her. I really need to get rid of this bastard I call my dad, and I need her help. I mean, I could do what I have planned by myself, but having her there for support is cool.

I pulled up in front of her house, and honked the horn. I waited for at least ten minutes before she came outside. I rolled my eyes. Classic Bianca. I got a closer look at Bianca as she walked to the car, and it kind of shocked me. She was wearing sweats. That's not her thing. She always dresses up.

She got into the car, not saying a word. I looked at her, but she didn't return the stare. After a minute, I cleared my throat, tired of the deafening silence.

Bianca turned and looked at me. "Hey," she said nonchalantly.

I raised my eyebrow out of concern. "Did something happen?"

"I don't want to talk about it."

"I'm not moving this car until you start talking."

"But Trace we're going to be late!" she whined.

"Then I suggest you start talking." I folded my arms.

She hesitated. "Fine, I'll tell you. Just start the car please."

"Gladly." I started the car and started driving.

Bianca sighed. "Okay so, I went to Tremaine's house yesterday and-"

"You were at Tremaine's house? What for?" I interrupted.

"That's not important. Anyway, I went to his house all dressed up to impress him. I flirted, as usual, and he acted clueless, as usual. But then something changed. After I told him about" she paused for a second, "something, he gave me this look. Like he saw me differently. And then he walked away. Of course, I was freaking out. I didn't know what to think. But I waited for him to come back. When he did, he kissed me. Then he walked away again and never came back. He never answered any of my calls either. I feel all mixed up inside." She exhaled.

I needed a moment to take all of that in. Tremaine kissed Bianca? I never saw him having feelings for Bianca in a million years. Something tells me that he's more mixed up inside than Bianca is, and I need to talk to him as soon as possible. But back to the person that's sitting next to me now.

"Wow, um, I don't know what to say. You need to talk to him after school or something. Alone."

"Okay, I'll do that."

"But that's not why I offered to drive you to school. I need you to help me do something really important."

"What do you need?"

"I need you to help me get photographic evidence that my dad is cheating on my mom."

Bianca's eyes got wide. "Are you serious? How do you plan on doing that?"

"Well, I know he's staying in room 406 tonight at the Hyatt hotel outside of town,"

"And how do you know that?"

"That's not important. Anyway, I was looking at pictures of the hotel, and they have a plant ladder that goes right past his room."

"...and you want us to climb that ladder and take pictures of your dad having an affair."

"Exactly! Maybe then my mom will finally divorce that asshole."

"Tracey, that sounds dangerous. We could get arrested!"

"Come on, it'll be fun!" I said, half pleading.

"Fine, but only because you're desperate." She smiled.

"Oh, thank you thank you thank you!"

"Whatever."

"Okay, so I'll pick you up around 8?"

"Will do."

The conversation took up the whole car ride. I pulled into the school parking lot and parked in my usual spot.

Bianca pulled of her seat belt, got out of the car, and started walking away.

"Hey, where are you rushing to?" I called out.

"I'm going to find Tremaine so we can talk, like you said!" she yelled, still walking away.

"I said to do that after school though!"

"That's a long wait!" she said, then walked into the school. I sighed, then started walking towards the school.

A familiar pair of arms wrapped around my waist. I smiled, turned to face David, and he kissed me on my cheek.

"Hey baby," he said.

"Hey, what's going on?"

"Want to do something after school? It's Friday, let's have some fun."

"Uhh, I can't. I have to do something really important tonight."

He gave me a questioning look, but simply said "Okay." Then he looked off to the side, and scowled.

"What, does he hide in the bushes and wait for you?"

I immediately knew who it was. I turned around to see Cameron in all his glory. I still can't decide whether that's an overstatement or an understatement. The sun complemented his caramel skin, making him look like he was glowing. It also made his green eyes look goldish. Gosh he's beautiful, there's no denying that. He was dressed to kill in his crisp, white button down, khakis, and white and gold Nike's. I caught myself staring, but snapped myself out of it just as he reached David and I.

"Hey Trace," he said smiling, his perfect white teeth blinding me.

I tried to look unemotional. "Hey Cameron."

"What are you doing tonight? I was wondering if we could hang out."

"She's busy," David said sternly before I could answer him.

"Sorry bro, I didn't know you two had plans."

"Whatever," David murmured, "Let's go." he said to me.

He walked me into the school, and that's when I pulled away from him.

"You know, you don't have to treat me like a child."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"I can speak for myself David! And you definitely don't decide when my conversations are over."

"Look, I'm sorry, but you know I don't like Cameron at all. I at least thought you would be considerate enough to stop associating yourself with him."

"Who are you to tell me what to do? I told you already, I'm just trying to get him some friends, and you're no help with that."

" I don't care whether he has friends or not! He obviously wants you, and you're too stupid to see that."

"Oh, so now I'm stupid."

"Bad choice of words. But you know what I mean. You need to stop being friends with this guy. Soon. Or our relationship will be over. Soon." and he walked away.

Did that bastard just give me an ultimatum? I know he's right, Cameron does want me, but I'm like the only friend he has. I can't leave him all alone in a new school.

The bell rang for first period, so I ran to my locker so I could get to class. Looks like it's going to be another long day.

--

I walked into the lunch room, and scrunched my nose. It smells like we're having burgers today . Ugh, how I hate school food! I walked to the salad bar, the safest place to get something to eat (hopefully).

After I got my food, I walked to my usual table and sat down. Nobody was there yet, so I started eating alone. I stared off into space, the chatter of the lunch room becoming background noise. I looked at the eggshell colored walls, and the blue and white tiled floor. I looked out the window at the last few leaves fighting to stay on the branches.

A body blocked my view. It was Tremaine. My face instinctively lit up.

"Hey Trey, you know we have to talk right?"

"About what?" he said, trying to act clueless.

"About you kissing Bianca! Why didn't you tell me you liked her?"

"Because I still don't know if I do!" He put his head in his hands.

My face dropped. He looks really confused. "Oh Trey..."

"And to make things worse, Bianca came up to me this morning demanding to know what the kiss meant."

"What did you tell her?"

"I told her I couldn't talk and ran into the boy's bathroom."

"What?! You can't hide from her forever you know."

"I know..."

"Um, okay. Tell me exactly how you feel about her."

"Well, yesterday when she told me her plan -don't ask what the plan was- I guess I was surprised by her intellect. I always thought she was all beauty, no brain. Something changed about the way I felt about her then. I just didn't know what. When I kissed her, I felt lightheaded. But, today when I saw her, I didn't want to be anywhere near her. I don't know what happened yesterday, but I don't think I like her Tracey."

I stared at him, unable to speak. All I can think about is how we have to let Bianca down easily. She has tried countless times to make Tremaine her boyfriend, but he just doesn't like her.

"Tracey?"

I snapped out of it. "Okay, you're going to have to tell her that. But don't tell her today. I don't want you to even see her for the rest of the day. Tell her in person though, just another day." I don't want her to be all depressed for our little mission tonight.

"Um, okay. If that's what you think is best."

We spent the rest of lunch together in silence. It wasn't an awkward silence, but a comforting one. Even in silence we comfort each other, because we understand each other. Neither David, Bianca, or Cameron showed up though. That's weird.

--

I zipped up my coat and walked through the front doors. I left the school late, so the parking lot was empty. I didn't feel like running into David. Not after that stupid ultimatum.

While I was walking to my car, I saw a figure leaning on it. Oh gosh, it's probably David. I really don't want to speak to him. But as I got closer, I realized the figure was shorter and lighter than him. It was Cameron. I cursed under my breath.

When I got to the car, he was smiling at me, saying nothing.

"What do you want?" I said, annoyed.

"You." He was probably trying to sound sexy, but he failed.

"Hah, cute. But if we're done here, can you get off my car?"

"We're far from done sweetie."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean? I have places to be, stop playing games."

"Oh, don't worry, I'll keep it short and sweet. Break up with David. I know you like me, and I like you. What's the use in pretending we don't belong together?"

"Nobody's pretending Cameron! I don't like you. I may have liked you before, but not anymore. You're crazy, and I want you to stay away from me. Now get off my car so I can do what I have to do!" I said, exasperated.

What happened next was quick. Cameron grabbed me by the arm and slammed my body on the car. He held on to me firmly. I wanted to scream, but fear stopped me from opening my mouth.

"I'm not playing games with you anymore Tracey," he said low and firm, "we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. Either way, I'm going to get what I want."

He kissed me full on the lips. I couldn't push him away due to the firm grip he had on me. But for some strange reason, under all of the fear, a part of me liked the kiss. What the hell is wrong with me? This can't be right.

He stopped the kiss and said, "I always get what I want."

He then proceeded to kiss me on my cheek, then on on my neck, and finally my collarbone. Between each kiss, he repeated "Always."

"Just remember that," he said when he was done. Then he walked away, leaving me trembling on the side of my car.

After he was out of my sight, I took out my keys, got in the car, and drove away as fast as I could.

--

I put my hair in a bun, completing my outfit. Since I'm spying on my father tonight, I thought I'd have a little fun with it. I was dressed in a black latex suit and black boots. I actually kind of like the way the suit shows off all my curves. I admired myself in the mirror for a few minutes before I took my professional Nikon camera and stuffed it into my black knapsack.

I dialed Bianca's number and waited. "Hello?"

"Are you ready?"

"Yup. You?"

"Of course. See you at the hotel in 45 minutes."

I walked out of my room, closing the door lightly behind me. Even though they're back together (not for long) my mom must've been pretty shaken up about what I said to dad yesterday because she went to bed early. I walked silently down the stairs and out the house.

When I got into the car, I paused for a minute and sighed. I reminded myself this would all be worth it once that scumbag was out the house and our lives for good.

--

When I got to the hotel, Bianca was already there waiting for me. We matched, her wearing the same black latex suit. I walked her to the side of the hotel that my dad's room was on and where the plant ladder was. I counted six windows up and , surprisingly, the sixth floor wasn't that far up. That makes my job easier.

I looked at my watch. 8:30. Perfect. I took my camera out of my knapsack and handed the knapsack to Bianca.

"You sure you're ready to do this?" she whispered softly.

"As ready as I'll ever be," I said, my whisper a little more loud and angry.

I started up the ladder, camera in hand. There were no plants on the ladder, seeing as it's so cold outside. That made climbing it a lot easier.

I got to the sixth floor relatively fast. I took a deep breath. Am I ready to see whatever is going on in this room? I better be, because there's no backing out now. I peeked in the window.

There was my dad, sitting on the bed talking to some woman. From what I could see, she was beautiful. Not better looking than my mom though, a mistake on his part. He's losing a good woman.

They weren't really doing anything interesting, but I took my first picture anyway.

For a few minutes, all they did was sit there and talk. I was getting tired of holding my position on the ladder. After a while, they started to kiss. I felt myself gag, then I felt my body temperature rise out of anger.

I snapped picture after picture, getting more angry as I took each one. But I kept taking them. My mom needs to see this.

They started taking each other's clothes off, and I got about five pictures of that before I couldn't stand it anymore. At that point I was shaking from anger, and I felt like I was going to puke. I climbed down the ladder.

"Did you get what you needed?" Bianca asked.

"More than enough. Can we finish this? I want to go home."

"Of course," she said, understanding how hard that was for me.

We walked back to our cars. This will all be worth it. This will all be worth it. I kept saying to myself..
