7: Trouble In Paradise

Tracey.

Today was another lazy day. Who am I kidding, almost every day is a lazy day. I threw on my black shirt and a fitted purple t-shirt. I brushed in my hair in a ponytail, and I decided to skip on the makeup.

Since I spent virtually no time getting ready, I had a lot of time to kill. I decided to sit at my desk, since it was close to the window. I stared outside, admiring the view. The tree in front of my house was almost bare now, a few discolored leaves still clinging on to life. The rest had given up the fight and were on the floor in a colorful mess. Kind of like my life, but less colorful.

Things have basically gone back to normal. Apparently, Cameron and I were acting like the kiss never happened for now, and I'm okay with that. David and I have been spending slightly more time together, mostly because of his increased effort. I don't know what's gotten into him, but this is the David that I expected when we got together. Even though things were good, I couldn't help but feel like this was the calm before the storm. Things have been so hectic lately, it's hard for me to accept that things have just gone back to normal. Even if they have, I'm going to be prepared if anything else goes wrong. I hope.

-

I hopped out of David's car when we pulled into the parking lot. I'm pretty happy that David is driving me to school again, because I'm lazy. Why do something if someone else can do it for you?

David got out and came over to my side. For the first time, I looked at his outfit. He was wearing a purple button down shirt and khakis. He also had on the cologne I told him I like. I had a feeling his outfit was for my benefit.

"You're looking sharp," I commented with a laugh.

"You think?" He did a quick little spin and I laughed again. "I see you're wearing purple too. I guess great minds think alike." he smiled.

"Yeah right. On any given day, there's like a 90 percent chance that I'll wear purple. You probably flipped a coin." I teased, wrapping my arms around his neck.

He gave me a short, sweet kiss. "You just had to ruin the moment, huh?"

I smiled.

"That's what I'm here for. What would your life be like if I wasn't here to bother you?"

"I'm sorry, am I interrupting?" Cameron's voice came out of nowhere.

I let go of David, and when Cameron came into view, he tightened his hold on me.

"Yeah, just a little bit," David growled. There he goes with the territorial bit again.

"Hey Cam!" I said with forced enthusiasm. We're still cool, but he did just interrupt a moment.

"What are you doing after school today?"

I shrugged. "I was going to do something with David," I said, glancing up at him.

He looked between us before nodding. "That's cool. I've been meaning to check out the basketball team, I guess now I have no reason not to."

I smiled. "Basketball? That's great! David's actually on the team, you know. He's like their star player."

"Oh, I know," he responded in a tone of voice that I couldn't really place. "I guess I'll see you guys later then." He walked away.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" David snarled once he was out of earshot. I looked up at him, and his jaw was clenched.

I frowned. "What's wrong?"

"Will that guy stop at nothing?"

I laughed. "What, are you talking about him wanting to join the team? You don't own the team you know, he can join if he wants! Plus, this is an opportunity for you guys to get to know each other. This is good."

He rolled his eyes. "I guess I can give him one more chance."

"This would be the first chance you've ever given him. Loosen up."

"Fine," he said shortly. "Let's go. We're going to be late."

David.

After school, I walked outside to meet up with Tracey before practice. To be completely honest, I'm not really in the mood to go to practice anymore. Now that I know Cameron is going to be there, it kind of lost its appeal. What am I going to do if he actually joins the team? I'll be permanently thrown off my game.

When I found Tracey, I walked up to her and gave her a quick kiss.

"Do you need a ride home?" I just remembered that I drove her here, and she might not have a way of getting home.

"Oh, I'm not going home." she said slyly.

I raised an eyebrow. "Well, where are you going?"

"Surprise! I'm going to practice with you. I can cheer you on from the bleachers."

I cringed at the thought of her embarrassing me like that. "You're going to watch me for an hour and a half?"

The smile dropped off of her face. "What, you don't want me there?"

"No, no. Nothing like that. It's just that you've never offered to sit through one of my practices before. What changed?"

"I just felt like watching you! Plus, you're my ride home." she played with her hands.

That's how I knew she was lying. Or at least omitting a piece of the truth. Tracey usually wouldn't be caught dead at any of my practices. She only wants to go today to see Cameron. Why the hell does she find him more interesting than me? Why is he worth watching? Why not me?

I clenched my jaw and grabbed her hand, leading her to the gym. "Whatever. Let's go."

-

Practice was... okay. Cameron being there obviously threw me off of my game. It didn't help that he was actually a pretty good player. Not that I would ever admit that to him. Tracey was up in the bleachers watching us like a hawk, which also made me a little uncomfortable. She also took to yelling words of encouragement and clapping. After hearing things like "Go baby!" and "Love you!" all practice, it was safe to say that I would not allow her to come to practice again.

I walked into the locker room and changed quickly so I could take Tracey home. I could shower at home. As I was leaving, I bumped into Cameron.

"Good practice dude. You're really good."

I gave him a cocky smile. "I know."

He smirked, as if he knew something I didn't. "Hey, I noticed Tracey up in the bleachers. Does she watch practices often?"

I paused. "No." I tried walking out again, but he stopped me.

"Oh, I get it. She didn't come for you. That's why your panties are in a bunch."

"Excuse me?" I growled.

"Look, I know that she never comes to practice. It's no coincidence that the one time she does come, I'm here."

I walked closer to him. "What the fuck are you trying to say?" I had a feeling he was trying to egg me on, but I couldn't stop myself. He was doing a good job.

He held up his hands in defense. "Nothing dude. It's just, it's obvious who she really cares about." He smirked again, and I swear his eyes had a devilish glint to them.

I swear I saw red after that. I closed the distance between us and picked him up, slamming him into the locker. "Look, you piece of shit, stay the fuck away from my girlfriend. I catch you near her again, I swear to God..."

"David, what the fuck! Let him go,"  I heard Trey said as he ran up to us.

I continued glaring at Cameron in silence, and he looked back at me with a smug look on his face.

"David, let him go."

I let him go and he dusted himself off. I started to walk away, but I thought better of it and turned back. Giving him one good punch in the face, I walked out of the locker room.

Tracey was waiting in the gym. When she saw me fuming, a look of worry crossed her face.

"What's wrong?"

"Don't worry about it."

She opened her mouth like she was about to say something, but closed it. After a few moments, she just said "Okay."

I took her hand and walked out of the gym with her. Once we in the car, I paused before starting it.

"Tracey?"

"Yeah babe?" she asked cautiously.

"Stay the fuck away from Cameron."

Tracey.

I slammed the door of David's car when we reached my house, all but running away from him. When he told me to stay away from Cameron, I blew up at him. I know he feels threatened by him or something, but who does he think he is? I'm getting sick and tired of his cave man act. I am not a possession to be owned! I am my own person, and I can hang out with whoever I please. He needs to learn his place.

I opened the door and walked inside, finding the house silent. Everyone must be in their rooms or something. Sighing, I started walking towards the kitchen to get something to eat.

Hearing a phone vibrate, I took my phone out of my pocket and checked it. No new messages. It had to be someone else's phone. Looking around, I saw a phone on the dining room table. It was my father's.

Curiosity getting the better of me, I picked the phone up. Looking at the message preview, I almost dropped the phone in shock.

Sharon: Room 406 tomorrow. Don't forget baby! ;)

What the hell? Is he serious right now? I'd bet money that Sharon is the mysterious co-worker that he spends all his time with. I warned his dense ass that if I ever caught him again I would make his life a living hell. I've had enough with him. He could rot in hell now for all I care.

Seething, I made my way upstairs to my parent's room. The door was open slightly, so I kicked it open all the way and walked in. They were on the bed watching TV.

"Tracey, where are your manners!" my mother exclaimed in surprise.

Ignoring her, I walked to my dad's side of the bed. He gave me a confused look as I chucked his phone at him.

"406. Don't forget, you dick." I started walking out of the room.

"Tracey! What in the world has gotten into you? Come back here!"

When it was obvious I wasn't coming back, she asked her husband "What was all of that about?"

"I have no idea honey, just forget about it.."

I slammed the door shut before I could hear anything else.

I walked into my room and closed the door behind me, sliding down and putting my head in my hands as tears rolled down my cheeks.

What did I do to deserve this? My life is falling apart...

*Song for this chapter is Brick By Boring Brick by Paramore. Honestly, I think the meaning behind this song encompasses the major point of this book, but I won't go into that lol. I want you to come to your own conclusions. Listen to the lyrics carefully and you'll get it ;)
