24: Surprise!

I stepped into the passenger seat of the car and was greeted with a warm smile and a white rose. Giving Aiden a smile of my own, I accepted the rose and breathed in its sweet scent.

"To what do I owe this pleasant surprise?" I asked, still eyeing the rose.

I was met with silence. Looking up with confusion written on my face, I saw that Aiden was looking at me in amazement.

I furrowed my eyebrows. "What?"

He just shook his head and chuckled lightly. Starting the car, he said "Nothing. You ready for a great day?"

First my mom, now Aiden? Maybe I'm overreacting, but everyone is acting a little weird today. Why?

"Sure!"

"Good. I promise you'll enjoy yourself baby."

Blushing at the nickname, I turned to look outside of the window. It was a normal winter day. The air bit at your skin, and if you stayed outside too long, you were guaranteed to get frost bite. All of the trees were naked, all the plants dead, and everything just looked overall dull. The gray sky didn't help the mood much either.

Giving up on the scenery, or lack thereof, I turned my attention back to the inside of the car. Soon enough, my eyes landed on Aiden. I watched as he focused on the road, and as he occasionally clenched his jaw. I concluded that he had a wonderful side profile, and that I would be content staring at it for the rest of the ride.

Every once in a while, Aiden would sneak a peak at me. Every time, without fail, he would notice that I was staring at him and he would avert his eyes to the road as if embarrassed. Each time that happened, it left me with a smile on my face.

I don't know why the car ride was so quiet, we would usually have so much to talk about. There isn't usually a moment of silence when I'm with him. Either he was concentrating really hard on the road, or something was weighing down on his mind. Could there be something wrong? He doesn't look sad. Should I ask? Should I leave him alone?

While I was having this internal mind struggle, we finally arrived to our destination. Pulling my eyes away from Aiden, I realized that he brought me to the mall.

I turned back to him and raised a questioning eyebrow.

Smirking, he responded to my silent question. "What? Don't girls love shopping?"

"You're taking me shopping? It hasn't even been 24 hours yet" I said in surprise.

He just emitted a deep laugh that sent chills down my spine. "You deserve it beautiful."

With that, he stepped out of the car, closing his door with a gentle force behind him. I watched as he walked around the front of the car and opened my door. He held his hand out and gave me a warm smile. I matched his smile with one of my own, and placed my hand in his. His touch gave me a warm feeling inside and made me relax. I sighed in content and stepped out of the car.

-

The entire time we were at the mall I was practically begging Aiden not to buy me anything. The natural girl in me lit up at everything nice I saw and he definitely noticed. Every time I gravitated towards a nice dress or hot pair of shoes, Aiden was all but ready to pull his wallet out and pay for it.

Now I admit, it would've been wonderful to have him buy everything that caught my eye, but he's my boyfriend not my sugar daddy. Plus, I don't need half of that stuff anyway.

After a couple of hours, I was trying to convince Aiden to leave. The temptation of the mall was just too much.

"We've been here forever Aiden, we should head somewhere else," I suggested as we walked around.

Engrossed in his phone, he simply replied "Soon baby, soon."

I let out a puff of air. What could be so important right now? I have noticed that he's been constantly checking his phone the entire time. Why is he so distracted today?

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Cameron. I turned to look at him completely, and I noticed that his hands were full of bags. He was walking briskly, and looked flustered.

He turned his head and we made eye contact, but he quickly turned back around and tried to keep going.

"Cam!" I yelled out to him. Dragging Aiden behind me, I rushed over to Cameron before he could get away.

"Maybe we should leave him alone, he looks busy," Aiden said nervously.

I ignored him and continued my pursuit. When I got to Cameron he reluctantly stopped walking and turned to face me. He looked like a deer caught in headlights.

What the hell is wrong with him?

"What's up? What's with all the shopping?" I said, referring to all the bags in his hands.

"Oh, these? This is nothing important. But I am really busy,  I should go..." he rushed through it all. I watched as he glanced over at Aiden, but then quickly looked back at me. I turned to Aiden, but he was looking down at his phone.

I turned back to Cameron and raised an eyebrow at him, and he gave me a small smile in return before rushing off into another store.

Letting go of Aiden's hand, I placed my hands on my hips.

"What's up with him?"

Aiden shrugged. "I told you he seemed busy. It's probably nothing."

I crossed my arms. "You seem pretty busy too. Should I leave you to your business?"

He looked up from his phone, caught off guard. Turning off the screen, he put it back in his pocket.

"I'm sorry babe. You have my full attention."

"Right. Can we go somewhere else? I've had enough of this place for one day."

He smiled. "Sure let's go."

-

Aiden brought me to the park. As we got out of the car, I couldn't help but think that I'm at this park more than I'm in my own home.

We walked toward the lake located in the center of the park and picked a decent spot. Aiden laid the blanket out on the ground and we sat down.

I breathed in the crisp air, and took in my surroundings. The trees were bare, and their shedded leaves littered the ground, decomposing. The lake was frozen solid, with signs plastered everywhere: Danger! Thin Ice; Do Not Walk On The Ice.

I take back what I said before: the park still managed to have an enchanted feel to it, this place wasn't dull at all. It was as if Winter had frozen everything in time.

I was so busy taking in my surroundings that I hadn't even noticed that Aiden draped his arm around my shoulder. Sighing contentedly, I put my head on his shoulder and snuggled closer to him. He kissed my forehead in response.

"This is nice," I said aloud.

"Anything for my princess." He shifted, and then laid back on the blanket, taking me with him. I turned to face him, and saw that he was already looking at me with a dreamy look on his face.

I giggled. "What?"

"You are so beautiful." He reached out and traced the outline of my face with his hand. It was such a sweet and innocent gesture, and it gave me chills. All I could do was sigh.

"I've dreamed about you being mine for so long, I can hardly believe that this is real. Sometimes I think that I'll wake up in my bed and realize that none of this is really happening."

"Oh Aiden..." I started, but I couldn't find the right words.

"I've wanted you since that day in the mall when we first started talking. I remember you telling me that you were having problems with David, and I remember how jealous I was of him. I remember thinking about how lucky he was to have you." He paused, recollecting himself. I could see the passion in his eyes as he spoke, and it warmed my heart.

"I...really like you Tracey Morgan. And I'm glad that you're mine."

I felt tears spring to my eyes and threaten to spill over. I blinked a couple of times to fight them back, and I gave Aiden the biggest smile that I possibly could.

"I really like you too Aiden Grant."

Before I knew it, his lips were against mine, and I completely melted against him. He reached his hand out and entangled it in my hair, deepening the kiss. I felt my heart flutter and pound furiously against my chest.

After a few moments he broke the kiss, much to my dismay. He then kissed my cheek and proceeded to kiss his way down. Getting on top of me, he planted soft kisses down my neck, each kiss sending a wave of desire to my core. I arched my back and let out a soft sigh of content. He responded with a low groan and planted a final kiss on my collar bone. Bringing his face back up to mine, he brought his lips to mine again. This time our kiss was filled with desire, and the sensation in my core heightened. Our bodies were pressed together, and I felt the imprint of his manhood on my thigh. It was driving me crazy.

We were interrupted my Aiden's phone ringing. Getting off of me, he answered. I groaned in disappointment.

He had a serious look on his face as he listened to the person on the other end of the phone.

"Okay, I'm on my way." He hung up the phone and gave me a small smile.

"You ready for part three of the most amazing day ever?" There was a lot of joy in his voice, and it intrigued me.

"What is part three?" I questioned.

Shaking his head, he said "You know better. It's a surprise beautiful. You'll love it, trust me."

"I may be young, but I have the heart of an old woman. I don't think I can handle any more surprises." I clutched my chest for emphasis and laughed.

He laughed as well, and we both stood up. Aiden picked up the blanket and folded it, and we made our way back to his car.

When I got into the car, I put my seat belt on and clasped my hands together. I couldn't help but feel a little excited. This day was going pretty well, and I can't imagine what else he could possibly have in store. I started playing with my fingers as Aiden closed the trunk and made his way to the driver's seat. He got in and looked at me, raising an eyebrow and breaking out into a smile.

"Nervous?" He sounded as if he wanted to break out into laughter.

I rolled my eyes at him. "Hardly. I do have to admit that you've got me excited though. You better not let me down."

"Trust me, there's no way that you'll be disappointed with what I have planned," he said with all the confidence he could muster.

I laughed. "I sure hope you can reach that bar you just set."

"Of course I can." He punctuated his sentence by starting the engine. As he drove off, my curiosity rose.

What the hell could he possibly have planned?

-

Our third destination was the bowling alley that we went to the first time we hung out. Well, it was also the sight of our first kiss.

I turned to him and saw him smiling at me so wide that it made the hazel flecks in his eyes pop out. I felt a familiar fluttering in my stomach, and it made me return a smile just as wide as his. I love that he still has the same effect on me. I hope that he never stops sending chills down my spine or making butterflies flutter around my stomach furiously.

"We're going bowling again?"

Not saying anything, he just got out of the car and came around to open my door. I got out and looped my arm around his.

"You know, if you keep being such a gentleman and doing sweet things, I just might fall in love with you Aiden Grant," I commented, half joking.

He tensed up beside me, and I turned to look at him. His eyes were wide and he looked like he just heard some shocking news. He quickly regained his composure and started walking towards the entrance of the bowling alley.

I swallowed nervously. Is what I said half bad? I was only joking. Oh gosh, he probably thinks I'm some love sick puppy that's trying to go too fast. I mentally slapped myself. That was a really stupid thing of me to say.

Attempting damage control, I said "I was just joking, you know. I mean I really like you but I don't want to think-"

I was cut off by a kiss that made my knees buckle. Aiden kissed me with such passion that I almost wanted to take him back to the car and make him drive us back to his house.

When he broke the kiss, he just chuckled. "It's okay baby, I know what you meant." He offered me a warm smile and I returned it. "Besides, you falling in love with me wouldn't be the worst think in the world." He winked at me and I felt my face get hot.

At the entrance of the bowling alley, I saw that all of the lights were off. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and looked at Aiden.

"Why'd you bring me here if the place is closed?"

He just smiled and tweaked my nose. "Don't you worry about that."

He pushed the door open and led me inside. I followed behind him, still very much confused.

"Aiden, I don't know how much fun we can have in a closed bowl- eep!"

While I was speaking, Aiden flipped the light switches. As the place flooded with light, people jumped out of everywhere imaginable- behind chairs, under tables, behind counters, you get the point. They all screamed out a very cheery "SURPRISE!" and smiled at us like fools.

Clutching my chest like a drama queen, I turned to Aiden and looked at him with wild eyes. He was laughing loud and hard, his pearly whites shining brightly under the fluorescent lights. I hit him playfully and let out a laugh of my own.

"You planned all of this?" I asked in disbelief.

He nodded, still chucking. "I told you that you would have a great day."

And then it hit me. The number one reason throw surprise parties is because... Wait, it's my birthday! That realization hit me like a ton of bricks. Who forgets things like that? I turn seventeen today and it totally and completely slipped my mind. That completely explains why Aiden had been acting weird all day, constantly texting and looking lost in thought. He was planning my freaking birthday party.

"Oh shit," was all I said after my realization.

He knew that I finally figured it out, and he smiled again. "Happy birthday beautiful."

My eyes started to water, and I laughed almost hysterically. "Come here, you beautiful human being!" I pulled Aiden in and gave him a deep, passion filled kiss as my way of saying thank you. The crowd cheered, and someone turned on music, making sound flow through the entire building. The party was started.

Remembering that there was a crap load of people watching us, I broke the kiss and smiled at them, embarrassed. Half of them were staring at us in awe, and the other half had already started dancing or getting food, paying us no mind. Half of the school had to be here!

Pulling Aiden behind me, I made my way to my friends. Tremaine, Bianca, and Cameron were all standing there smiling at me. Trey was behind Bianca, hugging her tightly around her waist. They looked adorable.

"Happy birthday!" they all yelled simultaneously.

I laughed. "I can't believe you guys threw me a surprise party!"

Bianca shook her head. "Don't give us the credit girl, the fine specimen next to you was the mastermind behind all of this. We just did anything he told us to do."

I turned to Aiden, and he was rubbing the back of his neck, obviously embarrassed. I kissed him on the cheek. "Aren't you sweet?"

He shrugged. "It made it easy once I realized that you didn't remember that it was your birthday."

It was my turn to get embarrassed. "You see, what happened was..."

"That's code for 'I don't have a good excuse, I'm just a forgetful old woman on the inside'" Trey chimed in. I gave him an evil glare, and everyone laughed.

I then turned my attention to Cameron. "Well now I know why you were acting so weird at the mall earlier."

He laughed, blushing slightly. He was lighter than me, so he didn't have the luxury of blushing and getting away with it. "Yeah, I was kind of busy helping with all of this." He gestured to the party happening around us.

"Thank you, really. I really appreciate this you guys." I proceeded to give all of them hugs, and I was about to go and enjoy my party when I saw a face that shocked the living crap out of me.

"David?!" I half yelled. Mostly because the music in here was really loud and was drowning out my voice. Not because my ex and current boyfriends with a violent past were in the same room. Yeah.

He just laughed. Why is everyone laughing at me today? "Happy birthday Tracey," he said, still smiling.

"Thank you," I said sincerely. "What are you doing here?" Smooth, Tracey.

David laughed again, and I heard the sound of Aiden's laughter behind me. "Don't worry Trace, Aiden and I put aside our differences. We're cool now." Even though he was smiling, I could tell that it pained him to say that. I also saw the hint of sadness in his eyes. Seeing me with Aiden was hard for him, and it made me feel bad that he was putting on a happy face just for the sake of my happiness.

I just hope he can get over me quickly.

I wrapped David in a hug and gave him a tight squeeze. He pulled away first and smiled at me sadly. I tried to ignore the feeling of my heart deflating for him and put my hands on his shoulders. "Have fun, okay?"

He nodded and walked away. I sighed. Again, I turned to see what the party had to offer. Instead, I came face to face with Aiden.

"Before you go in search of food- yes I know that's what you were going to do- I have something for you."

Ignoring his comment about the food -because it was true-, I gave him an intrigued look. "And what could that be?"

He pulled out a small black box from behind his back, and I opened it slowly. A rose gold bracelet rested inside. Attached to it were two charms: a bowling ball and a tree. Tears sprang to my eyes once again as he took the bracelet out of the box and put it around my wrist.

When he was done, he took the bowling ball charm in his fingers and looked at me. "This charm represents our first kiss, and what I considered our first date." I felt my ears get hot, and he continued. He took the tree charm in his fingers and said "This one, well, this represents all of the wonderful memories we've made in the park, from you falling to every life changing kiss."

He finished, and I remained silent for a few moments in shock. This boy is definitely going down in history as the sweetest guy I've ever met. He really has gone above and beyond for me. What did I do to deserve someone so wonderful? "It's beautiful Aiden, I love it. Thank you so much."

He murmured something in response that I couldn't quite hear, but I swear it sounded like "I love you."

"What?"

"Nothing baby." He reached his hands out and wiped away the tears that I had no idea fell. He then gave me a quick kiss on the lips and pulled me in to a tight hug. I hugged him back. In that moment, it felt like we were the only two people in the room, and I felt so loved.

After what seemed like a blissful eternity, Aiden broke the hug and gave me a warm smile.

"Now, let's get some food."
