11: Reconciliations & Realizations
I woke up feeling happy and refreshed, like everything about my life is perfect. That is, until I remembered my life is the furthest from perfect it could be. After a brief moment of happiness, the memories of everything that happened yesterday came washing over me. Cameron forcefully kissing me, taking pictures of my dad's affair, going to David's house, and my dad leaving the house for the second time. I really hope he stays gone this time too. Cheating bastard.
I jumped out of bed, and was about to get ready for school before I remembered that it was Saturday. I gave a sigh of relief and plopped back down on my bed. I tossed and I turned, trying to get back to sleep. It was no use, everything I was dealing with is too much to sleep on.
I got my phone from the nightstand and held it in my hands, wondering who to call. David's out of the picture, I don't have the energy nor the motivation to talk to him right now. Should I call Bianca? I think she's too busy working out her Tremaine problems. She's not very good with handling more than one problem at once. I guess that leaves Tremaine. Wow, I don't have many friends, do I?
I dialed his number and waited. He answered on the third ring.
"Trace, what's up?"
"Your overreacting best friend is what's up Trey," I said angrily.
"Oh boy, what happened?"
"Okay so yesterday when I was leaving school, I ran into Cameron."
"It seems like you're always running into that freak." I could almost hear him shaking his head.
"I know right? So there he was on my car, blocking me from getting in. Then he started giving me all this crap about how we're meant to be together and I should break up with David. I told him he's a crazy bastard and he needs to stay the hell away from me. That sure made him mad, because next thing I knew he slammed me against my car and-"
"HE DID WHAT?! I'm gonna kill him!"
"Trey calm down and let me finish my story!"
"Okay whatever, keep going."
"Anyway, then he kissed me. Repeatedly. On my lips, on my neck, on my cheek. I couldn't even stop him. Then he was gone. That brings me to later on that night. I texted Cameron and told him to leave me alone again. He said no way, and that he was going to go visit David. So I rushed over to his house, Cameron told him about the kiss, David freaked out, and I stormed out." I rushed the last part, desperate to get the words out.
I waited for his response, but there was only silence.
"You alright Trey?"
He took a deep breath. "I'm going to kick Cameron's ass one of these days."
"I know, I know."
"But today, I'm going to talk to David." I heard him start moving, probably getting dressed.
"I don't think that's a good-"
"Don't try and stop me Tracey, I'm already walking out the door." and he hung up.
I threw my phone on the bed and sighed. I have a feeling that his little talk won't make anything better.
Well, you never know. Tremaine could fix everything. We'll see.
Tremaine.
I pulled up to David's house and got out of the car. I sighed before walking to to the door and ringing his bell. Why does it feel like I'm always the one fixing everyone's problems?
David answered the door in his pajamas , yawning.
"Dude, what the hell? It's like 9 in the morning. And it's Saturday!"
I shook my head. "I know. But we need to talk about what happened last night."
"What happened last night?" he rubbed his head. "Oh! You mean- how did you know what happened?"
"You know Tracey tells me everything. You gonna let me in or what?"
"Oh , sorry. Come in." he started walking to his room.
"One of these days, she's gonna need to learn to keep certain things about us to herself."
"Oh please. If she kept her mouth shut, you guys would've broken up by now."
He stopped for a second. "I guess that's kind of true."
I walked into his room and sat on his bed. "So, you wanna tell me why you blew a fuse last night?"
"Easy. Because my girlfriend kissed the very same creep that's been trying to steal her from me."
I sighed. "Dude, he held her down and kissed her. She didn't have much of a choice."
His mouth dropped open, then his jaw clenched. "He did? I'm gonna kill that fucker! Why didn't she tell me?"
"I'm 100% sure she tried to tell you, but you weren't listening."
David sat down on the bed and put his head in his hands. "Oh man, she must hate me."
"I'm not so sure about hate, but she is really pissed."
He got up, walked to his closet and started going through it.
"What are you doing?"
"I have to go talk to her. Before she decides to dump me." He started to change his clothes.
"...and that's my cue to leave. Good luck, I have something to take care of myself."
I headed out the door to my next destination- Bianca's house.
David.
I parked the car and turned off the ignition. I rushed to the door, rang the doorbell, and knocked.
After about a minute, Tracey's mom answered the door.
"Hey Mrs. Morgan, can I see Tracey?" I asked politely.
She yawned. "Oh, you just missed her. She left for the mall about a half hour ago. Well, I guess you didn't really just miss her. She's long gone."
"..yeah. Well, have a nice day Mrs. Morgan." I said walking away. She isn't normally that talkative. It's weird.
And another thing- why is Tracey at the mall? When she's mad at me, she usually just watches tv all day. The whole family is acting weird today.
Oh well. I got into my car and drove off.
Tracey.
I sat down in Baskin Robbins with my cookies & cream ice cream. I sighed. I took a few bites, then set my spoon down and watched it melt.
The store was full of couples today. Like the world is taunting me or something. Why did I come here? Shouldn't I be working things out with David?
No. He should be working things out with me. He's the one that can't even trust me to be faithful. When he works out his trust issues, then we'll talk.
When I came back to reality, a sex god was sitting across from me.
Let me be a little more clear: it was Aiden Grant, star of the football team. That doesn't mean much to me, but what does matter is that he is wonderful to look at. Six foot two, milk chocolate skin, toned body, and perfectly white teeth.
"Anyone home?" I saw him raise his eyebrow.
I blinked myself out of my trance, and laughed. "Sorry, I'm not myself today"
"I can tell. What's got you all zoned out?"
"Err , David and I kind of had a fight yesterday. Again. I refuse to be the one to make up with him this time."
"Ooh , that can't be good. Mind telling me what happened? Or is it too private?"
"Well, its a long story , but put simply, David thinks I cheated on him. He has trust issues I guess."
Aiden paused for a second. "If you ask me, any guy lucky enough to have you should be able to trust you. I would." He smiled at me, and my insides melted. What can I say? I'm a sucker for good looks.
I blushed. "Thanks... I didn't cheat on him, by the way."
"I didn't think you did." We were silent for a few moments.
Aiden got up and sat next to me. "So how about we do something to take your mind off of it?"
"Oh? What did you have in mind?"
He leaned in. "You like bowling?"
I laughed again. Don't know why. "Love it. Bet I could kick your butt too."
"Well let's test that. Tonight." he said laughing.
David.
I looked all over the mall for Tracey, and I couldn't find her. Did I miss her again? This is ridiculous.
I was on my way out of the mall when I saw her. With some guy. Is that... Aiden? I felt my blood starting to boil.
I half walked, half stomped inside Baskin Robbins and over to their table.
"What the hell? I came over here to apologize to you, but you've obviously moved on already! And with Aiden? You don't even like football players."
Tracey's face was emotionless. "First of all, I never said I didn't like football, I just prefer basketball. And just in case you really needed to hear this, no I haven't moved on! So you could apologize, and make it sincere."
My mouth dropped open. Sure, she's had an attitude with me before, but she's always been willing to apologize to me. I must've really messed up this time.
I turned and stared at Aiden. This isn't any of his damn business!
He caught my stare and said "Alright, I know when I'm not needed," he turned to Tracey "call me when your boyfriend isn't tripping. I can't wait to beat you." he smiled at her, got up, and left.
I sighed and sat down. Tracey just looked at me, waiting.
I took a deep breath. "Trace, I'm sorry. Honestly. I should've known since he said it that you would never do that to me. It's just that when I'm upset, I don't think reasonably. And he makes me really upset."
Her facial expression stayed the same. After a few moments, she sighed.
"You know, you should really trust me more."
"Yeah, I know that now."
"You know what would really make me forgive you?"
"What's that?"
"Some more ice cream. Mine is all melted." she smiled.
I laughed and got up. "Anything for my baby." I kissed her, then went to stand on line.
Tremaine.
I pulled up to Bianca's house and turned off the engine. I sat in the car for a few moments, taking deep breaths. Why am I so nervous about talking to her? I'm sure she'll understand, I just don't like her like that. I think.
I finally got out of the car and walked up to her front door. I took another deep breath. I rang the doorbell.
I didn't hear anybody come to the door, but a minute after I rang the bell Bianca opened it. And she looked...beautiful. She was still in her pajamas, and her hair was curly. I always liked it that way. She looks wonderful without makeup, I wonder why she wears it all the time?
She squinted at me because of the sunlight. "Tremaine? What are you doing here?"
"I think the more important question is why are you still in your pajamas?"
She smiled. "Oh hush. Come in" she left the door opened and walked into her living room.
I followed her inside, closing the door behind me. I always liked Bianca's house. It's so big, always clean, and it just looks nice. Her mom is an interior decorator after all.
When I walked into the living room, Bianca was sitting down on the couch flipping through channels. It's like she already forgot I was here. I shrugged and sat down next to her.
She glanced at me, then went back to channel surfing. "So, what are you doing here again?"
"I never said. But I just wanted to talk."
Bianca put the remote down and turned to me. "This has to be more than just wanting to talk. You could've called me, or texted me. Instead, you chose to drive all the way to my house. So one more time: what are you doing here?" she stared at me.
I sighed. "Well, remember when I texted you saying we needed to talk?"
Her face dropped, and it made me feel bad. "Yeah.."
I raised my arms. "Well that's why I'm here."
"Hmm. And what do we need to talk about that's so important?"
"Us. Or more specifically, why we can't be."
She scrunched her face. "Please elaborate."
"Uhh... okay. We can't go out because..." I paused. I have no idea what to say!
"Because?" she said impatiently.
"Because I'm confused!" I yelled suddenly. I got up and paced the living room. "Every time I've been around you lately I can't think straight. I can't even decide whether I like you or not!"
Bianca blinked and shook her head. "Okay..umm, so what do you want to do?"
I took a deep breath and thought about what I wanted to do. After a few seconds, I realized I was just drawing blanks. I need to get away.
"I..I just need space." After that, I just walked out the house.
Tracey.
I lay on my bed, thinking about nothing in particular. It's kind of boring actually. I switched my thoughts to today. Aiden cheering me up when I was upset, David apologizing to me. He doesn't do that often, so it's like a personal victory. That I had to work my ass off for.
I suddenly feel like calling Aiden. I picked up my phone, found his number, and dialed.
He answered on the second ring. "Hey, what's up Tracey?' I could hear the smile in his voice.
I smiled in return. "Just wanted to know how soon I could beat your ass at bowling."
"Does tomorrow afternoon sound like a good time to be humiliated?" he said laughing.
"Ha! Just bring the little skill you have with you. We'll see who gets humiliated."
"See you and your trash talking mouth tomorrow Tracey."
"See you then!" I hung up.
I got off my bed, smiling, and walked into Brittany's room. She was playing with her dolls in the corner of the room.
"Hey Brit-Brit, what's up?"
She turned around to face me, and she had tear stains on her cheeks. "Where's daddy Tracey? He's supposed to be home!"
My face fell. "Oh Brittany," I said sitting down next to her, "daddy is going to be away for a while."
"Tell me the truth Tracey! I heard mommy yelling at him last night."
I bit my lip, then sighed. There's no use in lying to her now. "Okay, Brit. Daddy...doesn't live here anymore. You'll still get to see him, whenever you want."
"Why is he gone?"
"Well, because he hurt mommy's feelings really bad, and she doesn't want him to live here anymore."
She was silent for a minute, then she got up. "I'm gonna go talk to mommy!" she said running away.
I sat against the wall and sighed. This shouldn't be my problem.
I started to close my eyes, but then the doorbell rang. I grunted, then went downstairs.
When I got to the door, I looked through the peep hole. It was Tremaine.
I opened the door. "Tremaine, what are you doing here?"
He walked inside my house, looking at the ground. "We need to talk."
What's this about? "Uhh, sure, let's go to my room."
We got up to my room, and I closed the door behind us. "So, what did you want to talk about?"
Tremaine looked everywhere but at me. He looked scared. He was playing with his fingers, and shaking his legs.
"Tremaine, what the hell is going on!" I half yelled.
He took a deep breath and looked up at me. "Tracey, I think I'm in love with Bianca."
