part three

I yawned and shoved a spoonful of rice into my mouth.

"You, why are you so sleepy in the morning? Did you not get enough sleep?" my mom asked me.

"Heol! Eonni! Your dark circles are no joke! At what time did you slept last night?" Minji, my sister, asked in a rather dramatic tone.

Probably five?

"I don't really know, at two maybe?" I tried answering with a full mouth.

"Were you doing an assignment?" asked my dad as he rose up from his seat and carried his dirty dishes towards the sink.

"It's probably a group assignment right? And your groupmates ditched their parts again like last time? Aigoo, you should learn from your experiences!" said my mom.

"It couldn't be a group assignment. Donghyun Oppa said he was with his friends last night," said my sister, calmly swiping her phone as she ate.

"That's why! Kim Donghyun is your groupmate isn't he?" my mom snapped.

"No he's not. Calm down okay, I'm perfectly fine.. Let's just eat," I looked down to my rice as I lied.

"Wait. Were you texting Donghyun? Last time didn't he just followed you back on instagram?" I furrowed my brows at Minji.

"When I told you he's going to be mine, I meant it," she stuck her tongue out at me.

"Ew! You're just in middle school!" I shivered in disgust hearing what she just said.

I glanced at the clock and saw that it was already seven in the morning.

"I better go now," I said, bringing my bowl and handing them to my dad who was washing the dishes, "thank you Dad."

"Sleep a little more would you? School starts at 8:30 and it's just three bus stops away!" replied mom.

"I can sleep at school, bye everyone!" I shouted while slipping on my sneakers and jogging out the gate.

"She's so weird," I could hear my sister say.

"She's your older sister!" my mom yelled at her.

I plugged in my earphones and walked to the bus stop near my house. By the time I arrived at school, it was only 7:22.

I was, again, the first one to come to class today. After putting my stuffs away, I positioned myself behind my desk. It was a slightly cold, early December morning. After zipping up my jacket, I folded my arms on the table and lied my head down, about to take a short nap.

As I was about to doze off to sleep, I heard the back door of the class sliding open. I was just going to ignore it, but then someone came in rushing and patted my shoulder.

"Seolji-yah! Baek Seolji!" I heard him say.

"Huh?" I looked up to see Kim Donghyun sitting on the chair in front of me.

"What about our paper? Do you need any help with it?" he asked, slightly panting as he just ran up the stairs.

I searched through my bag and took out the paper that he was talking about, placing it on my table.

"It's fine, it's already printed anyway.."

He swiftly snatched the paper and skimmed through it, "Woah!"

"This is amazing!" he said, flipping the pages.

I stole some glances on him before finally saying, "How's your practice?"

He placed our paper down and folded his hands together and said, "It's going perfect, thanks to you."

"At this rate I think I might be able to pass the audition. I'm really sorry, but thank you so much about the paper. And please please please don't tell anyone, my family can't know unless I pass," he pleaded with so much energy his body rocked back and forth.

"Don't mind it.." I said, slightly lifting a corner of my mouth.

"By the way, you--" I suddenly remembered something.

"Were you texting with my sister?" my volume raised.

"N-no, I never--"

"You were right?!" I snapped, "Hajima!" I slightly pushed him, dragging my words.

"Okay, okay, I won't do it again!" he said, crouching on the chair.

"Good morning, guys!" Jonghyun walked in the front door, while Jaehwan entered from the back a few seconds later.

"Mr. Cho told us to collect our papers here, and he wants all of our papers to be here when he comes," Jonghyun said, placing a tray and a piece of paper in front of the class, "and don't forget to sign here!"

I rose up from my seat and did so.

People started coming, filling the class, and soon almost everyone was there. Yejin was panicking, for Seongwoo is the one who had their paper and hasn't appeared yet. But then Daniel came just before the bell rang, followed by Seongwoo, and Mrs. Nam entered the class.

Then, a regular school morning routine started. We said our greetings, Mrs. Nam gave us a morning brief, and she left.

"Better collect our paper now," Seongwoo grinned to a grumpy Yejin, walking to the front of the class.

He placed his paper on the tray and was walking back to his seat when Jonghyun said, "Seongwoo-yah! Don't forget to sign!"

"Oh? We're supposed to?" he said, stopping next to Sohee's seat.

Mr. Cho suddenly walked through the front door and menacingly glared at Seongwoo, who smiled like an idiot.

"Then can I just borrow your pen please, pretty Sohee-nim?" Seongwoo turned to Sohee, who sighed and handed him one.

"Thank you," he said, dashing to place his signature and returning to his seat.

"I see that you're still, as always, not prepared for school, Ong Seongwoo?" Mr. Cho said, sounding cynical.

"I'm sorry, Sir," answered Seongwoo.

I unknowingly bit my upper lip in discomfort seeing what's happening on the front area of the class.

Mr. Cho's class soon began and he was definetely not in his best mood throughout the lesson. Sighs of relief was soon heard as the bell rang, indicating him to go out of our class.

It was then Mrs. Nam's lesson. I was jotting down my notes at full tilt when she suddenly stopped talking.

She turned towards us and exhaled, "Seongwoo-yah, are you not taking any notes?"

"I'm an audio type of person, Ssaem!" he answered, smiling.

"Look, you're a born genius, I know that. But I've been getting complaints from other teachers that you don't look like you're being serious in studying."

"So can you do us a favor and at least take notes, or something?" she said, placing down the textbook she was holding and fixing her specs.

Seongwoo stayed silent for some moments before answering "Okay, Seonsaengnim."

"Great. Now let us continue......"

Mrs. Nam turned her back on us and started marking some parts of the poetry written on the chalkboard.

"Hey! Hey!" Seongwoo called Sohee, leaning forward towards her.

Sohee turned backwards, looking slightly annoyed, "What?"

"Can you lend me your pen again please?" he asked, smiling broadly.

"For goodness' sake Seongwoo! You borrow my pen every single day, when are you going to get yourself one?" Sohee complained, still taking out her pen anyway.

"I had one but somebody took it without telling me!" Seongwoo tried defending himself, eyes widened.

"You've been saying that for two months!" said Sohee, passing her pen.

"Thank you, Princess," Seongwoo grinned, accepting the pen.

Watching everything from my seat as always, I was rapidly tapping my finger on my table.

Darn it Ong Seongwoo, why are you always like that.

"I'm sorry Baek Seolji, but can you stop that? I can't focus because of the noise," Yejin turned her head and spoke to me.

Today, I received my pay early from my dad for helping out in our restaurant. He told me to go buy new clothes or something because it's near Christmas, and here I was on the streets of Hongdae.

Yet I was only holding a couple of discounted pens, walking home already.
