" Mmm '' Artemis groans as she opens her eyes, she sits up and looks down at her leg underneath the blankets. She overhears through the silence of the mountain base the movements of pans and the spraying of something. With a sigh she lifts the blanket off of her, the cast around her ankle and shin clinging onto the blanket as if not wanting to let it go. " Alright, work with me here. " The blonde says as she plants both of her feet on the floor and begins to stand up and try to walk to her shower. She is successful for the first few steps but due to her condition, she misplaces her foot and slips causing her to fall crashing onto the ground with a loud thud.

The second that happens a higher pitched voice yells with concern " Artemis! ". As a green girl with red hair and casual clothes fly's through the halls blowing away some smaller items in the hallway.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. '' Artemis says as she gets back up being careful not to put pressure on her foot.

" Here let me help you up. " M'gann says as she enters the room to her girlfriend Artemis, still in pajamas and goes to her side acting as a crutch. " You remember what they told you don't you? " M'gann says incredulously as she helps Artemis up and towards the washroom.

" Yeah. '' Artemis says, smiling a bit at the scent of M'ganns hair, the softness of her skin and general supportive nature. Artemis and M'gann reach the shower door, and the martian lets go of Artemis. " I don't think I'll need help in the shower. '' Artemis says with a bit of cockyness and a smirk flaring up.

M'gann blushes lightly, beginning to stutter her way through saying " If you say so " Thinking about it for a second before changing the subject. M'gann clears her throat " I'll finish up breakfast, everyone else is out doing their own thing so it's just you and me. " smiling and the two separate for the moment. As M'gann flies back off to the kitchen shaking off her blush and finishing up breakfast Artemis starts the shower, her mind wandering back to her younger life. How sometimes when she was especially sad she'd take a hot long shower well as long as she could have with parents like hers to calm down and have a place to let out her less than positive emotions.

As she starts up the water to the shower she lets the cold water hit her face trying to wake up and bring herself back to reality. As the water heats up, she can't shake her mind, as if it were determined to make her relive any and all memories that jumped at her. As she goes through memory crime alley she looks down at her leg as the water rushes down into and through the cast she scowls at the immobility, at the uselessness.

" Alright, Good job M'gann! '' She says to herself smiling as she plates the eggs the bacon she made for breakfast. They were slightly burned but not as bad as her first batch of cookies. As she was setting the plates and cleaning up from the cooking she wondered to herself about Artemis. The two had been in the relationship for only a few weeks and they spent most of that time talking, cuddling on the couch, and poking fun at the boys. So this morning with her being so quiet and not as physically affectionate as she usually was perplexed the little martian. She had wanted to read Artemis's mind so badly, she had already stepped into her mind once before when they were on the mission in the desert of Bialya but she was limited by Artemis and the time frame of the mission. She knew that Robin had made jokes off to the side with Artemis but none of the subtext really translated to her with the minimal earth experience she had. Although she had used up all her time thinking about that subject because the sound of the water for Artemis's shower was turned off.

After a minute or two Artemis walks into the kitchen and smiles at the food set out for her. As she picks up her plate M'gann watches her, she could see how Artemis would be shifting her weight between her feet and switching back to her uninjured foot quickly. She figured it was a habit considering how in combat she's always on the move but still it worried M'gann. She noticed how Artemis had put on jeans which seemed stretched more on her injured leg to cover more of her cast. M'gann scowled but Artemis turned and joined her on the couch bringing a smile to both of their faces as they turned on the tv and ate their food.

As the two ate and talked they had moved closer together as well, essentially cuddling on the couch at this point. M'gann was playing with Artemis's long blonde hair, it had that fresh glow to it and was generally soft as well. Artemis on the other hand was somewhat laying on M'gann while on her phone. In between playing with Artemis's hair and gently massaging her scalp, M'gann looked at Artemis's phone noticing how every few minutes a notification would appear about a crime in progress and that Artemis would hesitate before swiping up ignoring the notice. After another notification appeared and Artemis swiped up again, she dropped her phone on the sofa, sitting up from M'ganns lap and lightly unconsciously scratches at her cast.

" How are you doing? '' M'gann asks as she places a hand on Artemis's shoulder. M'gann could tell there was a lot going through Artemis's mind and she so wanted to read her mind but M'gann also wanted there to be trust in the relationship and for Artemis to tell her what's wrong herself.

" I'm fine. " Artemis says blandly, leaning back and sighing before looking at the TV still playing. The TV was playing news on current superhero saves and super villain antics, some clips even showing other members of the team. Wally was teaming up with Flash to stop a bank robbery, Superboy and Superman were helping around the city, even Aqualad was shown helping clean up part of an oil spill.

M'gann moves closer to Artemis, keeping her hand on Artemis's shoulder. " I know that's not true, I didn't even read your mind even though I really wanted to. So please tell me what's wrong. "

" It's just, I became a hero and I messed up against someone who wasn't even a super villain. And now I'm sitting here not doing anything, when I should be out there helping people, and even then I don't wanna just go back home because I don't want to worry my mom. " Artemis says, sounding fed up and annoyed, balling her fists at her sides. " And this god damned cast is uncomfortable and it's like how the hell am I supposed to contribute to the team as a powerless archer when I couldn't even handle an everyday ordinary thief. " She says gritting her teeth at the end and surprising M'gann because Artemis never really acted insecure about that stuff, to be fair they hadn't been dating long but it surprised her nonetheless.

M'gann smiles and still holding Artemis's shoulder uses her other hand to turn Artemis's face so that they look each other in the eyes. Artemis tries to avoid eye contact but M'gann goes in for a kiss, surprising Artemis, so she couldn't avoid her coming words. " Artemis, everyone messes up, we heroes aren't these perfect people even Superman isn't perfect he struggles and even fails. AND! Since you are hurt now there's no point in you feeling sad about having to stay back and heal. If you yourself aren't at 100% you may not be able to help others and you may end up getting yourself hurt even worse! " M'gann says with passionate understanding and brings Artemis into a hug. " I understand not wanting to worry your mom as well, you're a hero, a stubborn but good person and you don't want others to worry about you but the way you handled that was not the right way because I was worried about you! Also you aren't useless, you may not be able to lift a car like Superboy or even disappear into the shadows like Robin but when Cheshire went after doctor Serling, she had already disabled Aqualad but you held the line, you helped defend the doctor and save Wayne Industries from The Fog. You Artemis contributed to the team and you are not replaceable, even when you mess up the team will be there, I'll be there. "

As M'gann holds Artemis all of her words sink in, and Artemis hugs M'gann back tightly but pulling her head back. " Thank you, back when my father was still around he wasn't the best. It was kill or be killed so you had to be useful and have no mercy. And my mom wasn't available at the time to help so I was stuck there for a while and honestly I hated it. But thank you, sometimes I gotta remember I'm not back there with him. " They both smile at each other, holding each other tightly, their eyes even getting a bit watery before they both close their eyes and go in for a loving kiss.

" I love you M'gann '' Artemis says smiling and blushing a bit, before M'gann lays back on the couch pulling Artemis on top of her blushing and going in for another kiss.

" I love you too Artemis. " She says in between going in for another kiss, but as they begin to make out " Shit ouch ouch! " Artemis exclaims having moved onto her injured leg and killing the mood in one fell swoop. Worry crosses M'gann's face but Artemis begins laughing a bit at her miss step, washing away M'gann's worries.

" Let's save that for another time, maybe when I'm more flexible. " Artemis says smirking and moving so that they are in a less heated position. The two get comfortable again watching the tv and change the channel to a drama show the two have been keeping up with. While of course cuddling and holding each other, with Artemis resting her head on M'gann's chest and M'gann having her arms wrapped around Artemis.

" By the way, I was wondering what were you and Robin laughing about yesterday? " M'gann ask's moving a bit of Artemis's hair out of her face.

" Oh that, I was telling him about how when I first got to my new school in Gotham this random kid came up to me, took a selfie and said " We're gonna laugh about this someday " and so I told Robin and I told him how the kid was creepy and gave me the shivers and he just started laughing. Artemis says laughing a bit even now at the situation " Why do you ask, were you jealous? " She adds with a smirk.

M'gann blushes and denies " What n-no I was just curious. " She says looking up at the tv avoiding Artemis's eyes but blushing just as hard. With that Artemis laughs a bit but leaves it and continues enjoying her quality time with her girlfriend. The two end up falling asleep on the couch holding each other, with Artemis still hugging M'gann tighter then she really needs to but the two end off the afternoon with a nap in each other's arms.

The sounds of feet pounding the floor can be heard as a man runs through an alleyway carrying a bag of jewelry clunking together. As the man runs another set of footsteps can be heard as Artemis chases the man from a roof above the alley lining up her shot, the sound of the string stretching as if nails on a chalkboard testing her commitment. " I'm not letting you get away this time. " She says to herself with conviction and releases the arrow. As the arrow flies it breaks through smoke from a pipe, bobs and weaves through the bars off a fire escape and carries a new found confidence within Artemis as the arrow pierces the man's clothes and pins him to a wall. A small smile appears on her face as sirens can enter into ear shot and she leaves the scene renewing her sense of self being, Artemis the Hunter.
