The Goat Story.
Hey guys so I changed Dede's name to Aurora because I felt it didn't do well for third persona.
Aurora walked into the hallway only to find her best friend sulking at her locker. Hannah was seated on the floor with her Nike backpack lying dejectedly next to her.
"I've lost my reason for leaving," Hannah muttered sighing dramatically and Lexi rolled her eyes.
"Can you lose your reason for living somewhere else? Like...oh I don't know...in front of your own locker?" Aurora asked her. It wasn't that she was insensitive, it was that Hannah lost her reason for living about four times a week.
"My life is over," Hannah continued dramatically covering her eyes with her hands. She peeked through her fingers to look at her best friend who was just looking at her with a bored look.
"I don't think breaking up with a guy is the life ending incident you think it is," Aurora said bluntly.
"You just don't get it. You've never been in love before. He was my love, my life, my...." Hannah started mumbling.
"You dated for two weeks," Aurora pointed out.
"Yeah, two weeks! That's like a new record for me or something," Hannah explained. How could her best friend not understand this?
Aurora saw that the only way to enter her locker was if she lowered herself to her best friend's way of thinking. She knelt down and put a comforting hand on Hannah's shoulder, "Look at it this way, you're going to France this holiday. Without a boyfriend, you could have your pick of adorable French guys."
Hannah immediately perked up and stood up so suddenly that she almost made Aurora fall, "You know what, Aurora? I've found a new reason for living."
"France, here I come," Hannah announced walking off.
Aurora couldn't help smiling at her friend's retreating back. She sure hoped French police had the necessary resources to keep her friend in check. They should also start handing out flame throwers to all the hot boys for their own protection.
She cleared out her locker and grabbed hold of her suitcase then joined the multitudes of students who were leaving the school. She forced her way until she was outside the school gates then got a cab to the airport. Usually, she would be driving to her home that was in Los Angeles but that day her flight was headed for New York.
She was supposed to spend her time with her aunt and counsin and a small part of her was excited. She didn't know what exactly she would be doing in New York but it had been so long since she was in the city that never sleeps. The other part of her heard New York and wanted to run. The last time she was there was with her mum.
The plane landed and she got out with her luggage searching the white name cards for hers but she was looking for the wrong colour. Her name was written in huge cursive letters on a sparkly bright blue name card that her cousin Tamara swung crazily in her arms.
"Aurora," she screamed pushing away other people as she rang to hug her cousin.
"Tami, it's great seeing you," Aurora said smiling as her cousin threatened to choke her. Her cousin stepped back and Aurora examined her. Tamara was still beautiful with her brown hair and sparkly green eyes, the complete opposite of Aurora's platinum blond hair and eyes that were so blight blue they came close to being confused for grey and had a dark brown colour surrounding them.
"I can't wait to tell you about school," Tamara said happily as they walked towards a shiny red Suzuki Escudo.
They jumped into the car and started driving home while Tamara entertained Aurora with all the chaos she had caused in school.
Aurora and Tamara were about the same age but Tamara had always looked up to her cousin. She always admired how confident Aurora was in any situation. In Tamara's eyes Aurora was perfect in everything she did but in Aurora's eyes she couldn't be any further from that.
"So what were you up to?" Tamara asked her curiously.
Aurora remembered her aunt's warning about influencing her cousin negatively with her stories and she cleared her throat, "You know...just studying. Nothing interesting."
Nothing interesting like setting fire to the janitor's toupee.
Her aunt was right, she really was a bad influence.
When they parked outside the house Aurora stared at the huge bus in the driveway. The word Terminus was written beautifully in black and red at its side.
"OhmyGoddon'ttellmeyourmum'sclientsareterminus," she managed to say in one breath. She wasn't a fan girl it was just that she loved their music. They had just started out a few months before but already their names were on everyone's lips. Their first tour was just about to begin and Aurora already bought all the tickets.
Tamara's mum was a music agent and worked with various artists so it was always fun visiting them. She was also pretty cool and very young.
"Yeah, I guess they arrived when I was gone," Tamara said as she walked to the door with Aurora.
When the door was opened there they were. They were lounging casually in the living room, well three of them anyway, Aurora couldn't see the fourth one.
"Hey guys," Tamara called out casually and Aurora couldn't help being proud of her cousin. Lesser females would have fallen at their feet begging for their hand in marriage but her cousin kept it cool and simple or maybe it was because the only band's she listened to were hard rock.
"Hey," Aurora said deciding short and simple was the safest way to go too.
"Oh right. You two must be Tamara and Aurora," Jesse, the lead singer of the band, said standing up from his comfortable position on the chair and his brothers followed suit. The only problem was he pointed at Aurora when he said Tamara and Tamara when he said Aurora.
"Actually it's Tamara," Aurora said pointing at Tamara and then pointed at herself, "and Aurora."
"Right. Sorry," he said flashing them an embarrassed grin that emphasised his cute cheek dimples.
"Its okay," Tamara answered.
"So I'm Jesse and this two are my brothers Nicholas," a boy with glasses acknowledged them with a nod, "and Leo." The youngest one gave them a wink.
The three brothers looked the same with hair whose colour drifted between red and brown with brown eyes that sparkled.
"Don't I know you?" Leo asked narrowing his eyes at Aurora. Truthfully, many people knew Aurora from various social media platforms but she didn't like announcing it.
"Its doubtful," she quickly said.
"There's a fourth one isn't there?" Tamara asked quickly changing the subject. She vaguely remembered seeing a fourth one when Aurora first introduced her to the band during their weekly video chat.
"Right. Tyler is coming," just as Jesse said this a red head boy appeared with headphones on and his eyes closed. He was clearly too deep into the music because he almost bulldozed Aurora.
"Tyler, watch where you're going," Jesse called out to him removing his headphones.
Tyler glared at Jesse before glaring at Aurora and grunted. He sat down then continued listening to his music.
"Which zoo does he come from?" Tamara asked and noticed her wrong choice of word a minute later because Leo, who had been narrowing his eyes at Aurora, finally realised where he knew her from.
"Oh my God you're goat girl," he shouted smiling.
Those two words, goat girl, were enough to make the ghost of embarrassing moments that have passed appear and bring Aurora down with her forcing the memory back.
"I'm so tired," Hannah whined as they continued trudging through zoo.
"I don't even see why people come to the zoo anyway. Its dirty, hot, congested and for the love of God have people here never heard of deodorant," Hannah continued whining and Aurora smiled.
In the big discussion of cup half empty or cup half full, Hannah was the type of person to break the glass and tell the other two groups to shut the hell up because it was just a freaking glass. She was just sweet that way.
"Maybe you'll be happier if you hadn't worn those shoes," Aurora pointed out looking at Hannah's shoes.
"And nawt look good in front of these adorable animals? No way," Hannah said continuing to walk in determination.
That's when the screams started and people started parting the way.
"Why are people running?" Hannah, who refused to run for anything or anyone, asked looking behind them curiously.
"Who knows?" Aurora shrugged and then she saw it. It was black and white with tiny horns on its head.
"Goat, goat," she shouted starting to run. She wasn't one to run away from animals but the murderous look in the goat's eyes told her she might not live to see her sixteenth birthday. The goat of course chose her to chase.
Finally she got tired and looked around for a way out but there too many people rushing everywhere and the goat was gaining on her. She saw an empty cage and immediately opened the door. Glad that she had worn a red jacket she waved it in front of the open door.
There are very few things Aurora can admit to regretting but not paying attention in Biology class is one of them. If she had actually bothered to listen to her teacher and not be busy making Dissection is Murder posters she would have known that even though both a bull and goat are in the same genus they aren't attracted to red things in the same way.
The bull might have chosen the jacket but the goat chose her. She managed to jump out of the way but the poor goat rammed it's head on the metal bars of the cage.
"Oh no, I killed the goat," Aurora screamed as the dazed goat collapsed on the ground. She ran to it and passed her hand over its skin.
"Come on, Mr. Goat. Don't die on me," she pleaded her eyes brimming with tears. She wasn't one to cry but when it came to animals she was a total softy.
The goat wasn't actually dead. It stood up and nuzzled its head against her neck. She started laughing as she held it. She immediately stopped laughing though when she saw Hannah's camera lens.
That's how she became goat girl.
Hey guys, what did you think of the goat story? I totally got the idea from How I Met Your Mother. Share your thoughts and please vote.
