Miss Jackson
I drove home. The sun was so bright I needed my sunglasses. In the distance there were heat waves.
"Ugh...it's so hot." I said. I turned up the radio and turned down the street. Two more blocks till home. Ding...ding! My phone dinged and I decided to do the smart thing and leave it alone. Buildings passed and I turned my head to turn into my driveway. It was a common house. I grabbed my phone as I sat in the driveway still. It was Gerard.
Hey where are you? I tried to call-Gerard
I went for breakfast and coffee-Me
With whom?-Gerard
Does it matter?-Me
Since I'm your boyfriend...yes-Gerard
You know you texted me when I was driving, I could've died-Me
Can you just tell me who you were with?-Gerard
Good to know you care about me-Me
You know I do-Gerard
I don't like this jealous Gerard, it makes me feel like you don't trust me-Me
I do trust you-Gerard
I don't think you do-Me
It's Brendon...he makes me...nervous-Gerard
He makes you nervous?-Me
I think...he looks at you, like I look at you-Gerard
He's my friend and only that-Me
I think he...he wants to be more-Gerard
Doesn't matter. I don't feel that way about him, there's only one dork for me, and that's you-Me
Thanks weirdo-Gerard
I love you, you dork-Me
I love you too weirdo-Gerard
I walked inside and into my room. I changed into a pair of black skinnies and a Panic! Shirt. I grabbed my laptop, since I still I had a job, and started to type a story I had found a week before, for the newspaper I wrote for. My boss liked the story. I did not. I wanted to be an author, not a newspaper journalist that writes meaningless stories. I wanted to do something that would inspire kids to write, inspire kids to read, but instead I'm writing about some worthless life ruining scandal. I finished typing and slapped a title on it. I emailed it to my boss. After I finished I decided to catch up on some music videos. I went on YouTube and saw a new Panic! Video. I watched it. I texted Brendon shortly after.
I watched your new music video-Me
Yeah? What'd you think?-Brendon
I'm going to be brutally honest-Me
Oh god here it goes-Brendon
It was good-Me
...-Brendon
But you should stick to the music industry-Me
:/-Brendon
Gtg...doorbell rang-Me
Bye-Brendon
I turned off my phone and walked to the door.
"Gerard...if that's you." I said opening the door.
"Not Gerard but I would like to know who that is." He said. "He sounds devilishly handsome." I rolled my eyes.
"Yes. And he's modest too." Gerard laughed and kissed my cheek.
"We've got a gig band manager." He pointed towards the bus parked outside. Frank drove and I could see his head barely reaching over the steering wheel. Mikey was leaned against the window and fogging it up to write emo things. Ray was arguing with Frank over the radio. Bob was in the trunk.
"That's awesome!" I yelled and we ran to the car. Gerard sat in the passenger's seat and I on his lap, since there weren't any seats open.
"Our set list one more time: 1. Mama, 2. Cancer, 3. Desolation Row, and....4. The End." Ray read off.
"Yep. And we've got our confetti cannons and explosives? And our lights and effects."
"Explosives?" I asked. He smiled at me. I gave him a nervous expression.
"Yep." Bob said lifting them up, but Mikey had opened the window to stick his head in and the explosives flew out the window. They exploded on the side of the highway.
"Bob! Those were our only explosives!" Frank yelled.
"Way to go Bob." Mikey said sarcastically.
"Yeah, way to go." Bob sighed.
"Okay now that Bob ruined our Mama effects...do we have our The End props?"
"Oops I thought Frank was supposed to grab those." Bob said.
"No way! Don't blame this on me. I told you to grab them. Nice job. That was the only gurney we have."
"Frank that was your job to--"
"I can't believe this!" Frank yelled.
"Geez Bob stop blaming this on Frank." Gerard said.
"You need to get some prop managers. And someone to keep Bob from screwing stuff up." I said.
"I'll make sure to." Gerard said. Bob leaned against the seats.
"Can we maybe take turns? Every time you turn the drums slam into me."
"Would you stop complaining? You're the drummer! You don't see Frank complaining."
"He's been complaining for 3 hou--"
"So shh." Mikey said. He ripped pieces of paper and threw it out the window.
"Where's the snack bag?" Ray asked.
"Mikey's responsibility."
"The ghosts told Bob to grab it." Mikey said pulling off his beanie to straighten his hair with his fingers.
"What?! This is not my fault!" Bob yelled. "You and you stupid ghosts! This is your fault!"
"What! Don't blame this on me! The ghosts obviously told you!" Mikey yelled.
"Be quiet! I will turn this bus around if you two don't shut up!"
"Turn the bus around? In the middle of the highway? I don't think you will." Bob said.
"Trust me. I called him a short stack of pancakes once and a couple other nicknames. I didn't stop. Trust me, my eyebrows are fine now...but they weren't." Gerard said. I laughed. Bob gasped sarcastically.
"Try me mister and I'll blow torch you too." Frank said.
"He blow torched you?" I asked Gerard.
"He didn't like the nicknames...and we had a blowtorch from Mama's finale. I didn't see it coming. My eyebrows were torched and I lost some of my hair."
"Remind me not to get on your bad side." I said to Frank. Frank hissed.
...
We arrived at the concert arena and started setting up. I had a V.I.P pass and started to mic check everyone.
"1...2...3...your mom." Frank laughed into the mic. I rolled my eyes.
"Turtles!" Ray yelled into the mic. Then there was a chorus of animal names.
"Puppies!" Bob yelled.
"You ruined that." Frank said. "Bob, how can you ruin puppies?" Bob sighed. Then we sound checked. They started playing Mama. At the 'mama we're all gonna die' part Gerard started prancing around the stage like a chicken.
"Gerard stop walking like a chicken."
"Ooh chicken! Can we have McDonald's for dinner?" Frank cooed.
"Sure Frank. Let's just finish the sound check." I said.
...
After the SPECTACULAR show, a giant confetti blast went off and in his weird Gerard voice, Gerard said,
"A surprise party?! For me?! You shouldn't have..." Then he threw up jazz hands and left the stage. I greeted him on the side and kissed him. "Aww." He said.
"You did great!" I said, he smiled and held my hand.
"We couldn't have done it without our amazing band manager." He said. I smiled.
"Celebratory dinner!" Frank yelled.
"Oh Bob, we're going to eat. You stay and clean up." Ray said.
"What? But there's so much confetti!"
"Clean it up." Ray said matter of fact.
"Okay, can you at least get me something?"
"Nah. We have some water in the cooler."
"We drank it all."
"Oh. Right." Gerard said. "Oh well."
"But I'm hungry."
"We have food at home." Gerard said.
"When are you going to pick me up?" Bob asked.
"You'll have to walk. We got too much equipment to turn around."
"It's 3 miles!"
"Good exercise and it's so nice outside."
"But it's raining!"
"You'll be fine."
"My foot hurts! The gong fell on it in the trunk!"
"You'll be fine. You don't see Frank complaining! He got a water bottle thrown at him."
"The water bottle missed." Bob whined.
"Yeah but it scared him." Gerard explained, Frank nodded. Bob sighed.
"But this uniform is too small. It feels like I'm choking."
"We only had a Frank sized one."
...
Bob walked in an hour later, limping and soaked. His hair dripped into his face.
"Bob! You're dripping on the carpet!" Gerard said.
"I wouldn't be of you hadn't made me walk home!" Bob yelled. Gerard looked shocked. "But who cares! It's always my fault and never my opinion. It's never your fault! And you always get your way!"
"I didn't know you felt that way." Gerard said.
"Of course you didn't. Because you never listen."
"I'm sorry. We'll try to listen." Gerard said, the others nodded. Mikey stared at the wall.
"I'd like to be treated more fair and I'd like to not be held responsible for EVERYTHING."
"Okay," Frank said, "sorry."
"Sorry." Ray and I said.
"I'm sorry." Gerard said. "Mikey?"
"I don't apologize. I'm too emo for that." But Bob walked over and bear hugged him. Mikey kept a straight, emo face. "I'm being touched. I don't like human contact. Put. Me. Down."
"Apologize." Bob said.
"No. Let! Go!" Mikey yelled, trying to squirm out of Bob's arms.
"I will lick you." Bob challenged.
"You wouldn't." Mikey retorted.
"Try me." Bob said. Mikey squirmed again but Bob licked his face.
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Mikey yelled.
"Apologize!"
"FINE! FINE! SORRY!" Mikey yelled, Bob let go and Mikey ran, yelling, to the bathroom to wash his face.
"It always works." Bob said, then he went to the back to change.
...
"DINNER!" Frank yelled as we sat down at a Johnny Rockets.
"Shh...Frank! We're in public." I said. He nodded and happily banged on the table with a fork. The waiter walked up to the table and smiled at me.
"What can I get for you?" He asked, still smiling at me. Gerard looked at me and (not) subtly slid his arm around my waist. The man awkwardly shifted his weight from foot to foot. Gerard smiled at me, I rolled my eyes.
"2 chocolate milkshakes for us." I said.
"1 strawberry." Frank said.
"Peanut butter." Bob said. Ray nodded.
"Cookies and cream." Mikey said. The man nodded. He walked back to the kitchen, his eyes glued to me. I looked down and sighed. Gerard loosened his grip on my side.
"Gerard..." I said.
"I know. I didn't mean to."
"But you did. Just because a guy smiles at me, doesn't mean you have to become the Green Eyed Monster."
"What?"
"It means you don't have to become jealous."
"Oh." Frank looked at Gerard. "I'll stop."
"You said that the last times." I said. Gerard nodded. "I want it to stop."
"I--"
"Here are you milkshakes."
"Boy! If you don't get out of here!" Gerard yelled. The waiter set the shakes down and hurried away. I whipped around to face Gerard. "Hmm."
"I've had enough!" I said. "You need to quit with this jealousy thing--"
"Frank get your face out of the whipped cream." Ray said. Frank licked the whipped cream that had stuck on his face when he lifted his head up. "Geez dude, that's just gross."
"To you." Frank teased. "But not to me." Ray snapped his fingers to get Frank's attention, then hit him with a straw. I sat next to Gerard in silence. The only peaceful one there was the waiter who kept looking at me. When I looked at him and he saw me he would accidentally bump into things with his cheeks flushed. I smiled. Gerard sighed and hit the spoon back and forth between his hands. I sipped some more from my milkshake.
"So...Dallas...we were wondering if you would accompany to the beach tomorrow." Bob said.
"The beach?"
"Yeah. We wanted a day off. We're always working--"
"Especially me." Mikey interrupted. He was drawing some weird looking skull thing on a napkin.
"You're full of yourself." Gerard said ruffling Mikey's hair. Mikey frowned.
"Stop." Mikey said pulling away. Gerard put him in a headlock and ruffled his hair.
"Why can't we just have a normal dinner?" Ray asked; he looked from Gerard strangling Mikey to Frank in the whipped cream. Then he looked at me and I shrugged.
"We're not normal people." Gerard said. I nodded. I finished the last of my milkshake and sat against the padded seat. Gerard let go of Mikey and Mikey went back to drawing his weird skull thing. "Mikey stop being so emo." Mikey sent him a glare and resumed drawing. Frank had whipped cream on his face and he was trying to get it off with his tongue.
"Here have a napkin." Ray asked.
"No, that's not as fun." Frank whined. His strawberry milkshake was hinted with the whipped cream on his face. "I can't finish this. Dallas do you want it?" I was the only one who had finished.
"Yeah sure." I shrugged and he handed me his milkshake. I looked down at it. The whipped cream had been mutilated and the strawberry part was sticking to the outside of the glass. I gagged. "You know what, nevermind." Frank shrugged. I called over the waiter and he cleaned up Frank's mess, with my help of course because I would never make one person clean up Frank's mess. That's just not cool.
"Thanks." He said. I nodded. He put the napkins and cups on his tray.
"I would never force that," I motioned to Frank, "upon anyone."
"Yeah..." He said trailing off and looked at Frank. "So..." He said.
"So..." The waiter sighed and looked over at Gerard who gave him a death glare. He shrugged. "So do you maybe want to come to the beach tomorrow? The guys and I are coming and I thought you might like to too." The waiter nodded.
"Yeah I'd love to. If you're boyfriend doesn't mind?" He said looking at Gerard.
"He won't mind." I said shooting Gerard a look.
"Cool. Here's my number. I'm Brian by the way."
"Okay, see you tomorrow. I'm Dallas." I said. He smiled. Then he walked back to the kitchen to clean something up. I sat back against the chair.
"What was that?" Gerard asked annoyed.
"What do you mean?"
"You know very well what I mean." He huffed. I sighed,
"Not this again, I can meet people and hang out. That's not just reserved for you. I can have guy friends. You're my only boyfriend." I said. Gerard sighed and kissed my cheek. I leaned against his shoulder. "Let's go home." I said.
"My home? Or your home?"
"Either one. I want to spend time with you. Maybe watch a movie." I said. He nodded.
"The guys will be at my place. That's not really time for us." He said.
"My place then." I said. He smiled and kissed my forehead. We left and they drove home, and since my place wasn't far. My hand in his we walked past the buildings. There were some weird pigeons we had to stop to feed but the rest of the time we were focused on getting home. I opened the door and we walked in. He sat on the couch and I grabbed two and put some microwave popcorn in the microwave.
"So what do you want to watch?" Gerard asked. I shrugged. I like anything really but I knew Gerard was a real superhero nerd. He was cute like that. We ended up watching X-Men First Class. It was awesome. I cuddled into Gerard's side and we watched popcorn and sipped . Mystique was pretty badass.
"This is awesome." I said voicing my opinion. Gerard nodded. This wack job killed this other wack job's mother and that's why this second wack job wanted to kill this first wack job. Then there were some weirdos who wanted to join up in this crew. There was a blue beast thing who fought with them, he was pretty cool. Mystique was the best though. Then the second wack job killed the first wack job with a coin. It was kind of gross so I had to nuzzle my head into Gerard's arm at that part. He held my hand.
...
"Do you have sunscreen?" Gerard yelled. He had slept at my place (on the couch of course.)
"It should be in the closet!" I yelled back grabbed plastic bags and dumping some snacks we had gone to the grocery store to get, inside. I had a cover up on over the top of my black bathing suit. Gerard was just wearing some swim trunks and running around the house looking for stuff.
"I found it!" He yelled. I rolled my eyes and stuffed the snack bags into another insulated bag. I grabbed some water bottles and put those in the bag as well. Then I grabbed some towels out of the hall closet and put those next to the snack bag. Then I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and hair. Gerard came into the bathroom and grabbed my hand. "Hey babe, have you seen my flip flops?"
"I don't keep track of your stuff. Maybe the dog grabbed it. Check with him or something." I shrugged putting my curly brown hair up into a ponytail. He kissed my cheek and then went to interrogate the dog.
"Let them go! Drop! Dro----op!" He yelled. I rolled my eyes and went into the living room to find Gerard and my dog battling it out with some flip flops. I sighed and kneeled next to my dog. I pinched the sides of his nose and he dropped the flip flop. I smiled and handed Gerard the flip flop. "Thanks."
"Don't mention it." I said. We grabbed the bags and got into the car to pick up the rest of the guys. Gerard drove and and made faces with his sunglasses as we drove. "Gerard you are going to get us killed."
"We're not gonna' die."
"We might. Your gorgeous face may blind me and we might crash and die!" I yelled. Gerard kissed my cheek and smiled a goofy-sexy-Gerard-smile. "Yep. We're gonna' die."
"Yes...my sure sexiness will blind us all." He said.
"Narcissistic bastard." I laughed, he laughed and held my hand. We stopped outside Frank's house where Mikey was sleeping over. They were reviewing band stuff and talking about their wives. Frank ran out in a tank top and some kitten swim trunks. Mikey just wore some black swim shorts.
"We're here!" Frank yelled putting his bag in the trunk. Mikey got in the back and we started driving to Bob's house. He go in and then we picked up Ray.
"Yep and no Brian!" Gerard said cheerfully.
"He's meeting us there, I just texted him." I said.
"When?!" He yelled.
"While we were picking up Ray."
"Ray!" Gerard yelled, turning to glance behind.
"How's this my fault?"
"Because you didn't get into the car fast enough." Ray rolled his eyes and we drove to the beach. Brian was sitting on the sand. When he saw us walking up to him, he stood up. "Oh. Brian. Hey." Gerard said flatly.
"Hey. Dallas's boyfriend." He said. He was braver than Brendona and stared down Gerard. Gerard backed off.
"Gerard." He said. I took off my cover up and laid out my towel. Gerard sat next to me and Frank blew up an inner tube (even though he's 34.) Mikey laid down on the sand and acted dead; his arms crossed, and eyes closed.
"I don't know about you guys but it's too hot to sit here." Bob said and ran into the water.
"I'm coming!" Frank yelled; he took off his shirt and grabbed the inner tube and ran into the water.
"C'mon Dallas." Gerard said picking me up. I squealed and grabbed around his neck to hold on. He walked out into the water and threw me in. The cold water washed over me and I screamed.
"GERARD!!! Ugh, gosh it's COLD!" I yelled.
"I know but it was sure funny." Gerard laughed. I smacked him and he laughed more.
"What?"
"Your hair. It's poofy."
"It does that when it gets wet."
"Well it's sure darn cute." I resurfaced (again) and clung to Gerard's arm.
"I almost died!" I yelled in his ear.
"Short people." Gerard laughed.
"Hey!" Frank and I yelled.
"Just kidding."
