"Sir, there's nothing out the ordinary. I've even looked further and he has no criminal record, nothing to suggest he is brutal in the workplace. You could practically say he's the perfect bloke." Samuels said on the other line. James sighed. "Not helping Samuels."

"Sorry sir, is there anything else you need me to dig into?" Samuels said. James shook his head as he answered back on the phone. "No, are you certain though there isn't anything I can use against him?"

"No, he has a clean record and through his own personal life, nothing to suggest he could be a danger." Samuels said. James nodded to himself. "Okay, that's all. Thanks." He ended the call sighing as he threw his phone carelessly onto his bed. So there was nothing he could use, as much as he would love to just fire his ass now, how could he explain with no reason behind why if he did. Even though the reality was because he had something James couldn't have and that was Harper. Practically he had watched as Harper moved on.

Flopping back on his bed, he closed his eyes for a second taking a deep breather until his phone started ringing again. James had the urge to just kick his phone off the bed even though that wouldn't really accomplish anything however got up answering it.

"What!" He snapped.

"James Brewer." A familiar voice snapped only back. James scrunched his eyes as he heard his Mother's demanding tone on the other line. "Is that how you speak to your Mother nowadays?" James bit his tongue from grumbling back as he answered with innocent tone. "Sorry Mother, didn't exactly look at the caller ID. What is it you wanted?" He rubbed his forehead as he lay back onto his pillow. His Mother huffed on the other line before she said. "I came to see how you were. See how you and Harper are doing. Son, you should expect I would have called. This an actual monumental moment in your life, you have settled down, so of course I am going to be asking of you two." James took a deep breath, debating in his mind whether he should come clean or carry on this mess he made in the first place. Taking a moment he finally said. "We're fine. Great as ever." His Mother tutted on the other line. "Well, is she there? Can I speak to her?" James sat up, sighing down the line. "Mother, I'm not even at work yet and she's...been busy."

"Son, what's up? You don't seem too pleased." She asked. James bit his tongue as he raked his other free hand through his brown locks. "James?" She asked again.

"I'm fine Mother. Really, you just phoned when I had only woken up. Still half asleep." He chuckled falsely down the line. "Look I have to get ready for work, but I promise I talk to you later and hopefully Harper will too." He lied, knowing for certain there was no way Harper would be doing any favours soon, eventually he would have to cough up. His Mother sighed, blabbering her loves and kisses before James ended the call.

Climbing off his bed, he pulled a white linen shirt over his naked chest then reaching for a pair of black trousers to match. He sprayed his normal cologne onto his shirt before rubbing aftershave lotion across his neck and chin. James entered into the main area of his penthouse skipping breakfast completely as he walked out towards his garage. Let's see how today will work out today he thought.

Harper glanced at the clock on the wall noticing that James wasn't yet here and was rather late. She had already gone out to grab him coffee and had it waiting on the edge of her desk. It was nearly nine when the lifts finally opened, he stood there his broad shoulders slouched as got off the far wall and walked out. His eyes instantly braved a glance over to Harper who did the same. Both held their breaths before Harper was to break as she stuttered. "I-I got...you coffee." James nodded as he approached heading for her desk to take the coffee but simultaneously both their hands met as Harper held the one side to the coffee cup as well did he.

"Sorry." She muttered, blushing as she took her hand away. James didn't spare a word instead picked the coffee up bringing it to his lips as he took a long sip, his eyes not once moving away from hers. Harper felt like she was being interrogated before at last he walked over to his office. Harper's attention was soon averted to the telephone which she picked up slowly, still her glaze on where his presence just was.

"Hello?" She muttered still dazed. The voice on the other line was sweet and demanding in one. "Hello there Harper." The voice snarled, like a snake spitting venom. She froze pulling the phone closer to her ear as she answered back. "Who is this?"

The voice laughed soon cutting short as they said. "Look I know. Don't fret...yet. Just tell your boss that I'll be giving him a visit soon. Bye...Harper." Before they ended the call on her. Harper pushed her hair back from her face as she frowned wondering what had just happened then. Who was it? And what did they mean they know? She didn't know whether to tell him or just keep quiet, but what would she even say to him anyway. Oh hey, you received a unknown caller whose gonna pop in? Harper shook her head before returning to her work as she altered through contracts. At noon she had to remind him of his dinner date, had no clue whether it was strictly business or personal but that didn't stop her from feeling down knowing the sadden truth that he didn't actually care at all between them and was probably dating someone else already. Though now she was still distracted by who the hell was that caller and what did they even want?

It was eleven when a unexpected gift entered from out the lift. A florist entered the space holding a bouquet of flowers reading the piece of paper in his hand before approaching her desk.

"I have this addressed to a Miss Daniels." He informed. Harper eyes opened wide as she croaked. "That's me." The man bored as ever smiled politely placing the flowers on her desk before moving back into the lift. Harper was shocked, who had sent her flowers. Was it him? Could it be him? Her heart was hoping on James though when she picked up the little card, there was no name. Her heart that was thudding faster by the second slowed but that didn't stop her smile. Who was it she thought. The only words were, from your secret admirer . Harper cheeks heated as she stood up leaning in as she smelt the beautiful scents. It was a arrangements of flowers all different colours, it was indeed special and flushed her dimples out upon her cheeks. Who was it? And who would send her flowers, no one had ever did something out of their zone to give her something nice.

The door from James' office opened startling her as she stood up straight. Her heart was beating out of her mouth, she held her hands against the edge of her desk. Was he coming to see about the flowers. Did he really send her flowers? All her emotions were raging as she held her breath. The sight of him only added more thrill, her lips curled as he entered the space. James halted quite confused why Harper was beaming at him, did he do something to change her mind, did those guilty confessions he was dwelling over finally give him a chance. He approached closer slowly wearily that this might just be his imagination and about to speak when the corner of his eyes flickered over to a bouquet of flowers on her desk. He froze.

"Erm...thank--"Harper barely managed to say before James cut in. "Where are those from?" Harper's smile deflated as the sudden truth came that the flowers weren't from him just as part of her hoped. His eyes were locked upon the bundles of colour not even meeting her eyes until she spoke. "I-I don't know." James held one hand behind his back clenching into a fist as he said very quiet. "No flowers on your desk. Get rid." Harper blinked several times feeling her heart ache even more but the horrid words that came from his mouth.

"Where?" She croaked, her voice barely recognisable. James snapped in instant. "I don't care where. Just get rid!" Before he stormed past her towards the lift. Harper watched as he entered the lift turning his face towards her, the fury in his eyes before the doors closed. What did she do she asked herself. It just hurt even more now. Tears threatened however she did nothing but stand there loosing any hope she had for him actually wanting to change.

James stormed out onto the fourth floor exactly where he knew that fool worked. He couldn't control the piling anger filling his veins; he just saw red. His employees around the department looked shocked as he passed into the space, some quickly engaging back to their work, others looking way unable to meet his eyes. There. He stood in the corner laughing with some other colleague, James didn't care that people behind were looking or what he would do. He stormed straight on, unable to control his temper. He began rising his hidden fist behind him higher.

Ten steps away.

Eight Steps away.

Four steps away.

Fury was burning at seeing his face.

Two steps away....

Then he halted. Someone tapped his shoulder distracting him. He turned around swiftly meeting the eyes of innocent woman who looked just as petrified as others around her. Then it dawned on him, whilst the rest were too distracted to see, few might have seen how aggressive he stalked in and he realised he nearly made a big mistake. What was punching the living lights of that man going to do for him he thought. He counted to ten in his head trying as much to calm himself down, not daring to look back in case he ended up completing what he was set on doing.

"Thanks." He muttered to the woman before heading back. She looked as confused as ever but passed him a folder. Maybe she wasn't looking out for him but that woman just stopped him doing something he would have regret.

This was jealously. At its worst. He might have killed a man today.
