VAN DEES
Beep Beep
Beep Beep
She slowly stretches her hand to find her phone. She, Katelyn Van Dees the daughter of the Roman and Darling Van Dees. This couple has three children. Their oldest son, Ian Van Dees, their second is named Jacob Van Dees and of course their only princess, Katelyn. Roman owns a business company that he built all by himself, Van Dees Inc and Darling, she owns her own fashion company named Darling Couture. You can say 'good in business' personality runs in their blood the fact that four over five are handling a company of their own except for Katelyn. She is the CEO of her father's company, one of five Van Dees Inc franchises which is in London. Her oldest brother has started his own family with a beautiful wife named Marie and his twins, Daisy and Darren. Jacob, he's seeing someone leaving Katelyn who is still single. Roman and Darling have been asking her when will her see someone or do they have to arrange a marriage for her like they already did. They already have someone in mind to be her beloved husband. Katelyn, she doesn't bother as she thinks she has a company that needs to be developed bigger.
"We already have someone for you, dear" Like they have time to find that someone, thinks Katelyn.
She slowly opens her eyes then blink a few times before fully opens them and takes a deep breath. She once again stretches her left arm to grab her phone on the nightstand then turns off the night lamp switch. She turns off the alarm that she set, seven thirty in the morning for the weekdays. Work days. Katelyn drops her phone on the soft light pink comforter, she stretches both of her arms upwards with a soft yawn escapes from her a bit pale lips. She pulls her legs off the comforter then put them on the floor beside her bed. She really takes her time to get up off the bed. After a few seconds or minutes, she finally rises from her beloved bed and walks towards her bathroom. After a long hot water shower she walks out of the bathroom, trembling because the air conditioner is still on which now she regrets for not turning it into fan mode, with towel wraps around her body she reaches the remote on the nightstand and turns the air conditioner off. She opens her closet, her walk in closet and goes to the right where she hangs all type of dresses and of course most of them are branded Darling Couture. She chooses one of the already set office attire, white button up and grey fitted coat and a pencil skirt then she walks forward to pick accessories and heels that matches her attire. White chain Quartz watch, black Saint Laurent Paris heels... that's enough. Then, she bends down to open a drawer of her undergarments. Katelyn puts them all on her bed, still in her towel she walks straight to her make up table, dries her hair then applies some make up. Blusher and a pink color lipstick are enough. She doesn't like to make up so much. Once she puts on all those things that she drops on her bed earlier, she walks back to her make up table and ties her hair into a simple ballerina bun but neat. She grabs her purse and she is ready to go. She closes her bedroom door then walks downstairs and her breakfast already waits for her at the kitchen.
"Good morning honey" greets her maid, Mrs Sandy Jones. She smiles as she walks to place a cup of tea on the dining table, along with Katelyn's Monday breakfast which is Cocoa Puffs already fills the bowl and a spoon beside it plus a jug of milk. Katelyn slowly slides down to sit on the chair.
"How are you, Sandy?" she asks as she pours the amount of milk she wants into the bowl then she dips the spoon.
"I'm good, thank you dear. How are you?" Sandy replies from the kitchen, cleaning up the counter.
"Good. Is Joe ready?"
"He's ready when you are" Katelyn nods her head then she's back to finish her breakfast. She takes the napkin on the table, wipes her mouth then she sips the tea Sandy makes her, wipes her mouth again before she gets up and walks towards Sandy.
"Thanks Sandy" Katelyn place a soft kiss on Sandy's cheek, as usual. She paces to front door as Sandy says with a loud voice "Have a nice day, sweetie!"
She is greeted by Joe, her personal bodyguard at the front door. Katelyn steps out and Joe closes the door for her.
"Good morning Joey" she greets with a cheery tone, smiling wide.
"Good morning princess" Joe retorts with a smalls smile as he follows Katelyn. He opens the backseat door for her, she mutters a thank you as she gets in. After Joe makes sure that his ma'am securely in the car, he rushes to the passenger seat and hops in.
"Good morning Martin" she says, buckling the seat belt up around her.
"Good morning Miss Van Dees" answers Martin, her driver. He starts the engine, slowly presses the pedal then the car moves. He stops in front of the guard shack, raising his hand in greeting and signing the guard, Peter to open the front gate. Peter nods his head, pushing the button and the gate slides the left. Katelyn clicks the car window button, it slowly rolls down.
"Good morning Peter"
"Good morning to you too, Miss Van Dees" he responds before the car speeds up.
"How are you today, princess?" Joe asks as he turns his head, facing Katelyn who's busy with her purse.
"I'm good, Joey. You?" she replies without looking up as she keep taking every things that in her purse, emptying it.
Before Joe can opens his mouth to answer, Katelyn cuts off
"Shoot!"
"What's wrong Kate?" Joe asks with concern shown on his face.
"I left my phone" She sighs, laying back her head on the head rest before she slowly puts everything back in her purse.
"Do you want to turn-"
"No. No, it's okay. I have an early meeting"
They arrive in front of the high, twenty floors building, slowly Martin drives through the parking lot and parks exactly where 'Miss Van Dees, CEO of Van Dees Inc' sign stands at. Martin turns off the car and quickly gets out off his driver seat to open the door for Miss Van Dees. Katelyn carefully steps out, turning her head to find Joe about to close the passenger seat door.
"Martin, bring me my phone and Joey, you're with me"
Yes, Miss Van Dees.
Yes, princess.
Both of them obey Katelyn's instruction with a curt nod.
Katelyn walks towards the sliding door, getting greeted by two securities and only get a nod in return. Same goes to those pass Katelyn by who greet her with Miss Van Dees, they all get a soft nod each. No one calls her ma'am, she despises it. The word makes her sounds old.
Joe pushes the up button to Miss Van Dees' personal elevator, letting Katelyn walks in first a hand holds out signing her to then he follows and pushes the 20 button.
"Where would like to have lunch today?" Joe asks, keeping his gaze on the elevator door.
"Bring me what Sandy makes me"
Joe nods his head, knowing it means she'll have her lunch in her office.
Ding!
Katelyn stalks out from the elevator before Joe gets the chance to guide her. As always two receptionists, Liam and Ava at the table snap their head up as soon as they hear that sound of elevator to says their good morning to their boss, simultaneously.
"Good morning, Miss Van Dees" they're grinning, watching their boss' moves.
"Morning" She passes them and a small office before her office. Lucy Mitchell, her personal assistant aka her best friend. So, you can say Lucy is used to Katelyn's CEO mode and her mood swings. Who else fits this hot spot other than her best friend. What does hot spot mean in this situation, it means facing the bipolar CEO spot.
"Good morning, Miss Van Dees" Lucy stands from her seat and rushes to the opened glass door.
"Good morning, Lucille. The files for today's meetings now"
"Yes Miss Van Dees" she obeys, watching her boss walks straight into her office with Joe follows behind. She marches back to her table and grabs those files Katelyn asks for and goes to her office. She knocks twice and Joe opens the huge door for her then close it after Lucy steps in.
"Miss Van Dees, the files for nine fifteen a.m meeting today" she says as she walks towards Katelyn's office table, standing beside Katelyn who is sitting on the comfy leather office chair. Katelyn gently takes the files from her personal assistant's hand, flipping it from pages to pages and sinking in the words. She nods her head slowly, closes the files then hands it back to Lucy. She glances at the old fashioned clock on the well painted wall then she looks at her watch.
The long thin arrow strikes at IX and the short arrow just lands on XII.
Ten more minutes.
"Lucille, make sure every person that involves with this project already in the conference hall before I get in"
"Yes, Miss Van Dees" Lucy says clearly with a normal tone, she knows Katelyn doesn't like her employees state something their breath.
Lucille stays put, hesitates whether she should say something that bothers her mind or not. Katelyn notices her best friend slash personal assistant uncomfortable movement, making she tilts her head to the side with her eyebrows furrow together.
"Is something wrong, Lucille?"
Lucy is snapped out of her thoughts by Katelyn's voice, her eyes get wider then she turns her head to Katelyn. Her eyes back to normal size as she gains her confidential to speak up.
I have to tell her.
Says Lucy, in her mind.
"Miss Van Dees. I looked up and did some research on this project and where will it be built. It'll be at a spot where the orphanage home is. If this project is agreed by everyone on board, it means-"
"Lucy" Katelyn interjects, making her eyes widen again. It is not because Katelyn cuts her off, it is because Katelyn calls her by her name, nickname. It means Katelyn is on her best friend mode. Katelyn slowly rises up from her seat, passing Lucy by and walking to the left side of her office where a wooden office bookshelves lean against the wall fill with random books, one both arms single couch, a glass table with a few magazines on it and a loveseat couch, all color matched. She slowly places herself on the single couch, crosses her leg to another and look at Lucy who quietly walks over to her.
"I know what I'm doing. Don't worry" she smiles to her eyes, sincerely. Lucy's face brighten up but quickly, guiltiness takes over. She feels bad for doubting her boss especially when her boss is her best friend. She rushes to the loveseat beside the glass table which is across the single couch. She slowly raises her head up, looking at her best friend with guilty in her eyes.
"I'm sorry Kate. I'm sorry thinking that-"
"It's okay Luces. But I'd appreciate if you don't think of me that way again" she says, softly with a small smile. Lucy just returns the gesture she gets and add a soft nod. After a moment of silence, Lucy stands up from the soft seat, backing away slowly as she says
"Thank you Miss Van Dees. I'll do what you told me now"
Which Katelyn answers with a sharp nod and the same two words with a low voice but clearly. With that Lucy scurries off of Katelyn's office. Katelyn finally gets up from the couch, walking to the bookshelves. She is not in the mood to read, she just caresses her fingers from a book to another.
"I know you're doing what's right"
Joey speaks up, standing beside the door frame. He trusts her, he knows her, he says it truthfully. Katelyn turns her head to meet Joey's eyes. Eyes that show sincerity. Joey just smiles at her, nodding his head solemnly. Mr and Mrs Jones have been working for the Van Dees since Katelyn could remember. From working to Mr and Mrs Van Dees to Katelyn's brothers and now herself.
It was school break. She remembers seeing Joey, stood in front of the gate of her boarding school. He smiled with his shades on, wearing all black including his black leather jacket as he waited, leaving the backseat door open so Katelyn could just jump into the car. He always called her 'princess' and Katelyn didn't mind the fact that Joey and his wife spent more time with her than her own parents. She smiles to herself as she remembers the hard time Joey and Sandy trying to make her smile because she was sad the whole day because her parents were not there for her Best Student Awards event. Joey brought her balloons, a lot of balloons. Sandy baked Katelyn's favorite cupcake, chocolate chips cupcake with chocolate filling. Then brought her to an just a small amusement park and she, finally cracked a smile that turned to a loud laugh when Joey got his face covered with pie because Joey decided to join the game. He thought it'd make Katelyn at least smile after almost twelve hours with a scowl face on. And it did work. She smiled like the precious little thing in the world, that is Joey's word.
Joey clears his throat to take Katelyn back to reality. Katelyn blinks her eyes a few times before she turns her head and see Joey points at the watch around his wrist, smiling. She nods her head curtly, her lips draw a small smile. She stalks femininely towards the door, Joey opens the door and they walk to the conference hall.
As she walks, she can hear loud voices, people stretching their neck veins, proving they're right and others are wrong. Once she walks in, the argument goes off and silence fills the room. She goes straight to her chair and slide down, Joey takes a place at the corner of the room. Lucy glances at every person in the room until her eyes meet Katelyn who's watching everyone.
"Miss Van Dees" Lucy stretches her arms to pass the files to Katelyn, getting a soft nod in return.
"Mr Smith, I heard that you have a lot to say about this project" Katelyn speaks up, her eyes move to Mr. Smith who smirks and confidently land his pointer finger on the file in front of him.
"This project. This project will make a lot of benefits to this company. And the cost is hundred percent below our budget. I don't see any problems here"
Mr Robert who has a different idea, opens his mouth to object but he realizes that the big boss is here so he remains silent.
"Mr Robert, do you have anything to add?" Katelyn gives the middle aged old man chance to speak.
"Thank you, Miss Van Dees. I want to speak on behalf of the poor and orphanage home. Mrs Murphy right here is the owner and manager for the house and she has told us many times that she'll not allow us to have that land and not to mention, demolish it!" he states sternly, his hand gesture the sixties woman next to him.
"We can buy them another house, bigger than that for sure" Mr Smith suggests nonchalantly, waving his hand he 'shooh' someone.
"No!" Mrs Murphy opposes, she's tightening her grip on the strap of her handbag.
"That house is priceless. That house is from generation to generation. My mother gave it to me so I could continue her good intention to help people. That house has a lot of memories it had made" she continues, her tones gets lower every second as she drops her gaze to her hand.
"So? Go make memories somewhere else" Mr Smith once again speaks with a cocky and higher tone, debating the old woman who sits across him.
"It's not the same, I will not sell it to this company or to anyone!"
Katelyn has had enough of yelling in the conference room, especially when they do it in front of her. She clears her throat, she places her forearms on the table and her fingers intertwine with each other. One of the shareholders notice Katelyn's movement, he nudges the person next to him making that person nudges another person next to him and finally Mr Robert gets the signal and his eyes moves to Katelyn then he stops yelling at Mr Smith and with that the whole room is silent once again.
"This project is delayed until we find a new place. Dismiss" her words make Mr Robert and Mrs Murphy have a fish-eating grin on their faces and leave Mr Smith in a state of shock.
Katelyn slowly pushes the chair, Joey steps in to pull it for her then she stands up and ready to walk out from the room but she is stopped by Mr Smith. He abruptly gets off of his chair and rushes to Katelyn.
"Miss Van Dees. With all due respect, what is this? I told you this place is perfect, I found it"
"Then I'm sure you can find another place than more perfect this. Dismiss" She passes him by with Joey and Lucy follow behind her and again she is stopped but this time by Mr Robert and Mrs Murphy.
"Miss Van Dees, thank you so much!" the old man says gratefully, the big smile on his face is the proof.
"My dear, thank you so much. Honestly, you saved the kids.. you saved us" without a warning, Mrs Murphy slings both of her arms around Katelyn's tall figure. Katelyn bends her knees a little bit and return the hug till Mrs. Murphy pulls away.
"It's nothing.. Lucy?" She turns her head ninety degree, calling for her personal assistant. Lucy steps closer to her, her arms hugging files to her chest.
"Yes Miss Van Dees"
"Card, please?" Lucy takes out a business card from one of the files and hands it to her boss.
"This is my card. If the house needs help, financial or anything" she smiles sincerely as she hands the card to Mrs Murphy.
Mrs Murphy once again pulls Katelyn into another hug, making Katelyn again, has to bend her knees and lower her upper body, smiling as Joey and Lucy try to contain their laugh by pursing their lips.
"God bless you, my dear" Mrs Murphy whispers into the Miss' CEO ear"
