Chapter 40

New York, 2015

It has been 2 months since she woke up. She would be lying if she admitted that everything was back to normal. It wasn't.

She felt incomplete and depressed. She wanted her life back but she wanted Duncan too.

As much as everyone tried they could not get her to talk. She isolated herself from everyone. Her present life was a tough pill to swallow.

Without him her world was bleak. gray. empty.
She relived every moment they spent together in her dreams and awake, she refused to face her reality without him.

She lay awake listening to Mimi chatter as she got dressed for class. It would be their 1st semester of college at NYU. Her father was hesitant on letting her have her own place but she insisted on it. A part of her was tired of being babied and worried over.

They got their own place 10 minutes away from campus under the agreement that they would check-in with him and visit often.

She sat up slowly looking at the clock. It was around 9am and Mimi was running late as always. She choose classes later in the day after mid day so she can sleep in. But with all the noise Mimi made getting ready she chose to wake up and settle her queasy stomach with some O.J.

"Any how as I was saying you most definetly need to take English Literature II," Mimi excitedly rambled on about the new professor with the british accent that was such a hunk.

Tara rolled her eyes not wanting to say something to get Mimi started. She barely took a sip of her nuice and opted to go back to bed. On Mimi's insistance of her signing up for the class, she politely declined and turned away quickly towards her room and waved Mimi off as she ran out the door with her bagel between her teeth.

Finally settled into her room, curtains drawn, cell phone turned off and exhaling with relief that she is alone, she got beneath the sheets and cuddled her pillow. She slept little which was one of the setbacks from her coma. Her recovery gradually got better. On the outside she appeared fine but on the inside her heart ached, her soul was suffering and she had no one to confide in.

How could she explain it?

She is sad and heart broken because she lost the love of her life. A 700 yr old Medieval Warrior.

She would most definetly be commited.

A tear escaped her eyes as she tightly shut them to picture his face. He would forever be engrained in her heart and soul that much she knew. But how could she continue on without him. How?

On her worst days it hurt too much to get out bed. But this morning she came to the conclusion that it was such a fücking lie: Time did not heal all wounds. Hers atleast.

The strange sensation of exhaustion had her yawning and slowly succumbing to sleep.

There in the corner of her mind where her dreams became her world, he appeared holding out his hand for her to take it.
He pulled her into his embrace and caressed her cheek. Lovingly he looked down into her eyes that held so much concern.

"T'is not healthy for you to hold on to me like this," he whispered.

She shook her head and looked away.

"Its not healthy for me to be without you either," her voice cracked.

He pulled her close and held her chin up to peer deep into her eyes.
She felt so much love in his gaze.

"I am always with you." he lowered his lips to hers.

Passionately he kissed her and she clung to him. Pulling away from the kiss he pressed his lips to her forehead and pulled her close in his arms.

She closed her eyes and inhaled his scent. One she would never forget.

In the distance she could hear the incessant beeping of an alarm. With a sigh he rubbed her back.

"It is time," he whispered.

She shook her head. Tears burned the back of her eyes as she tightened her grip on him.

"Just a little while longer. Please." she begged between choked sobs.

"Shhhh. All will be alright. I promise," he said.

With sweet kiss placed on her lips, he stepped back slowly.

His gorgeous face smiled and loving eyes held hers as she reluctantly let his fingers slip from hers.

The beeping became louder.

He threw her a kiss then turned to leave.

Suddenly a thick fog wafted around her. Then darkness.

It would be nearly 5 hrs later she is gently awakened by Mimi.

She shot up right in her bed whispering his name in a gasp making Mimi jump back. Tangled in her sheets and drenched in sweat she sat numb realizing it was another dream.

Too weak to cry she looked away from Mimi's saddened gaze. She burried her face in her hands succumbing to grief. Mimi shot up quickly and climbed into bed beside her tontry to comfort her.

It was too late to go to any classes she noted 1hr later after she had calmed down. She slowly forced herself out of bed shortly after. On shakey limbs she made her way to the livingroom.

Mimi's sad voice stopped her.

"She barely eats mom. Im worried." she sighed.

She watched Mimi pace back and forth with her cell phone to her ears.

"I dont know if they' re nightmares but she cries for him in her sleep. I honestly dont know who he is," she exhaled a rush of breath.

Mimi continued to talk to her mother not noticing Tara standing behind her. Tara sadly lowered her head then turned away retreating to her room once more.

Too weak to care, again she climbed back into bed and fell asleep. When she finally woke up again it was 10pm.

She rolled out of bed slowly. With labored breaths she made her way to the livingroom once more only to find she had company.

Familiar loving faces turned to watch her make her way out into the kitchen.
Carl and Andrew lifted their heads and greeted her.
Shyly she smiled at them but her smile never reached her eyes.

She hugged herself and made her way to the kitchen and grabbed a bottled water.

Shortly after Mimi appeared in the livingroom. Happily she spoke and asked if they wanted to go clubbing. Excited and up for it, Andrew and Carl agreed.

They turned to her as she tried to sneak away but she stopped then faced them.
They tried to convince her. But she declined.

Mimi insisted. Agitated she declined again.

When Mimi tried again that is the moment the Tara that the once knew, no longer occupied the body before them. She had changed. Become withdrawn, agitated and combative when pushed.

"I said no," she snapped.

"Tara we just thought," Mimi began.

"No I dont want to go out, I want to be left alone," she shouted.

"Tara we know this is difficult but you have....," Carl stood up and slowly approached her.

She shook her head.
"No...you don't know how difficult it is. Didn't you learn the first time. Its how I ended up in this predicament." she cried out.

Vile slowly began to crawl up her throat as she continued to shout.

Mimi stood by in tears as she was yelled at.

Carl and Andrew watched sadly as Tara before them broke down in tears.

"I will never get to see him again. I want him back." she collapsed to the ground in tears in a gut wrenching cry.

Mimi dropped to the floor at her side and pulled her in her arms.

"It hurts so much," she clutched her chest as her heart lunged furiously in her chest.

The haze and sickness she had been feeling became intense. She felt nauseaous and covered her mouth as the bitterness of vomit crawled up her throat.

She pulled away and ran to the bathroom. She hurled into the toilet and cried as she vomited violently.

Mimi rubbed her back and held her hair as she wretched uncontrollably into the toilet.

After some time she collapsed into her embrace. With Andrews assistance she was carried back to bed.
It would be two days later when she finally rolled out of bed with Mimis insistance.

She helped her to the bathroom where she stood grasping the sink and peered into the mirror at her swollen eyes and disbelieving appearance.

"Here," Mimi whispered.

She turned to her cousin as she handed her a box.

Home pregnancy test....

Tara frowned.

"What is that for?" she croaked.

Mimi looked down.

"Whens the last time you had your period Tara?" she asked.

Tara scoffed.

"So what your spying on me about my period too?"

"We have it at the same time. There is a box of Tampons barely used Tara for the last two and a half months." Mimi looked up at her.

Tara shook her head.

She dared not think of it. It was stress that had her like this. Stress.....

Its not possible.

Hope dangerously grew in her heart as she dashed away the warm tears that slid down her cheek.

NO!!!! She shook her head.

"No, im not pregnant." she turned to walk off but Mimi stepped in her way.

Frustrated Tara cried.

"You take it. You piss on it. Cuz im not doing it.," she argued.

Mimi wouldn't budge.

Determined her cousin stood there against the door holding out the box for Tara to take it.

Wearily, she eyed it and angrily yanked it away from her opened it up peeled the wrapper off and furiously before her squated on the toilet and pee'd on it.

Angrily she finished her business slammed it on the sink washed her hands and headed for the door.

"Is that all warden?" Tara snapped.

Mimi didn't answer as she saddly looked into Taras eyes.

Tara stormed out of the bathroom and back into her room where she yanked her drawer open and searched for something to wear. She refuse to stay in the apartment a minute longer.

She slid on her jeans and threw on a sweated dragged on her sneakers. She grabbed her cell off the night stand and turned to leave but stopped.

Her heart slammed in her chest as Mimi's red rimmed eyes looked up from the stick then at her. She said nothing.

She didn't need to.

Tara began to crumble.

She trembled shaking her head as Mimi entered and placed the test in her hands.

A sob escaped Tara as she looked down at the double blue lines.

Her hands slowly lowered to her abdomen.

She is pregnant..........
