Dragon wrestling

It was a few weeks after Pit joined the team. So far he was... alright? He kept trying to do everything for everyone like he absolutely had to, but of course he could only handle so much. They kept telling him he didn't have to do everything, but he insisted. Sheik figured that maybe he wanted to make some friends and he thought "do everything to make 'em happy". He did sound like he was a bit lonely.

The Scavengers went back to Joseph's home town, to let Pit know how things go and all. They put him in charge of guarding the wagon while everyone else went their ways. And boy his face lit up when they told him to guard the wagon. He was like an excitable soldier boy sometimes, saluting and all.

As usual Joseph went to the Ravager Gather area to look at the applications available. Sheik probably would of come along too, but Harpus dragged her off to do "girl things". Guess Harpus figured Sheik needed to do some things to show she could have fun too, I suppose. As for Jeff, the usual: leaving him at Dr. Alexander's office. It was the only real safe place Jeff could be outside the wagon, other then the forest I guess.

Anyway, Joseph was sitting down looking through some applications when he felt a light tug at his sleeve. He looked around and saw it was his little friend Six.

Joseph: Oh hey Six! How are you?
Six: I'm well thank you. But I'm running a bit of a risk being out here. Mother's been trying to find me. I've seen the posters out for me. So I can't be out long.
Joseph: Oh I see. Well is there anything I can do for you? Something to eat or anything?
Six: No no, I'm fine. Thank you. But I do have some information you might be interested in.
Joseph: Oh? What kind of information?
Six: Well, you know where all the farmer's are? Just outside town?
Joseph: Yeah.
Six: Well apparently they've been complaining about a creature called a dru- Um... a dra- No. Um... a dreggi- No! Uh...
Joseph: ... Oh! A Druddigon?
Six: Yeah! That's it! Apparently a Druddigon has been attacking the poor farm animals and the farmers don't know what to do! I thought maybe you might be able to do something about it.
Joseph: Well, I'd love to help them Six, but a Druddigon is a powerful pokemon. They're pure Dragon Type, and they often attack any threat they encounter with no fear of damage. Me and my team never dealt with one before.
Six: But Joseph, me and my friends get a lot of our food from those farms. If these attacks continue, the farmers may go away, and... W-we don't know what to do if that happens! Please! 😢
Joseph: 😦Uh... W-well... Tell you what. I'll discuss it with my group. We'll do what we can okay?
Six: Th-thank you... I-I better go. I'll see you around?
Joseph: Sure. Go on.

Six held Joseph's hand for a bit, then she let go and ran off into an alleyway. Joseph was a little worried. A Druddigon was considered a dangerous Pokémon. Pure Dragon Type, rough skin, about as tall as a human, over 300 lbs, and all claws and teeth. It did make Joseph think though. Druddigons are usually cave dwellers and search for food underground. Joseph will have to discuss the matter with the others.

And he did.

Pit: A Druddigon?! Those things are tough! Literally! Their faces are harder then rock! And their skin is covered in spikes and thick hide to protect them from just about everything else!
Harpus: I've dealt with dragons before, but dragons are usually the kind of critter that don't back down without a fight or two first. That Ridley guy I fought years ago was almost skin and bones and had most of his abilities restricted, and I still barely beat him! Just imagine taking down a dragon with a hard hide and all the firepower, not ta mention a wild behavior!
Sheik: What concerns me is why this Druddigon is taking food from the farmers instead of just going through tunnels like most do. All I can figure is that perhaps this Druddigon lives in a cave not far from these farmers and decided it'd be easier to take food from them rather then spend energy and time searching through underground tunnels all day.
Jeff: And ya seriously expect us to be able to take on this beast considering all that Joe?
Joseph: Well, why not? We've got the skill to take on Riptor right? This shouldn't be that problematic. And anyway this could harm my home town if the farmers are forced out of business! We should at least try! If things don't go well, we can ask for Ray and her team to take care of it, but of course you know how rough Ray can be herself. I mean, she admitted to ripping a live sea serpent's tooth out for crying out loud.

Everyone looked at each other. Joseph had a point. This was HIS home town, and it could hurt the town badly if the farmers couldn't produce enough food for everyone. But as you've got in your heads, Druddigons are not to be messed with unless you know what you're doing.

They decided to vote on it, including Jeff. They took a cooking pot and wrote their vote on a piece of paper. If there was more "do it"s then "don't"s, well you get the idea.

And after all the votes were taken and read, the vote was unanimous.

The next day

The farmers thought Joseph and his "crew" were crazy to take down a Druddigon, but nonetheless they were thankful someone came to help. They were shocked though when Joseph said he'd capture the Druddigon alive, but then thry figured "it's not us risking our heads". They told Joseph that the Druddigon had a distinctive scar close to its left shoulder, and it was hard to miss. They had no clue if there was a cave system nearby given this was a Druddigon they were dealing with.

Once Joseph got all the information he could from the farmers, he told everyone(including Jeff) to go check the nearby wilderness and find some sign of this Druddigon. There was a large rocky hill terrain not far from the town, so chances are that the Druddigon was somewhere in that direction. Joseph still went to search the wooded area just in case it was there. Besides, Joseph was technically the weakest of the Scavengers, having only a sword, and considering the woods would be the amongst the least likely places a Druddigon would be...

Well, Joseph didn't mean to sound scared, but he had his reasons.

Joseph: *deep breath* Yes Joseph, let a little girl convince you to fight one of the most dangerous dragon Pokémon out there. How hard could it be? *sigh* Maybe I should've-
Jeff: Sup Joe?
Joseph: Ah! Good lord Jeff! ...What're you doing in a tree anyway?

Jeff was up in a tree branch. Before answering Joseph's question, he began to hang upside down from his legs just in front of Joseph.

Jeff: Um, well, there's trees in just about every direction around here soooo... Why not? Besides, I'm not all there in the head, you know? What'cha talking about?
Joseph: Oh. Nothing. Just maybe reconsidering finding this Druddigon is all.
Jeff: Yeah well, it's a little late for that. Especially since I think I found him.
Joseph: What?
Jeff: Yeah. Turns out there's like a rock crevice or something that's just large enough for a 4ft tall dragon to crash. And the best part- (gets back upside up on his branch) -is that it's occupied by a dragon.
Joseph: Well what are you waiting for? Go tell the others!
Jeff: Sure. After I show you "boss". Come on. Try and keep up if ya can.

Joseph wasn't given much of a chance to think before Jeff started running off through the trees. Joseph began running after Jeff on the ground, but Jeff could go through the trees here like a fish through water. Or more accurately a monkey through a jungle. Then again, Jeff had some strange... quirks, about him.

He eats just about everything. He complains about being too cold yet doesn't like getting too close to a fire. He'll eat just about anything he could get his hands on. He's usually pretty sarcastic and sometimes arrogant. And did I mention that if Jeff says he isn't hungry then something's got to be wrong with him. He was a good "watchdog" though. Good sense of direction actually. Had a "gut feeling" like an animal, which is good since animals tend to have heightened senses. And for someone with burned scared skin he had some of the most unbelievable luck you would ever see. Quick reflexes too. All and all, you just had to get past his bad attitude and lazy habits. Then you'd see someone not half bad.

Um, I spoke too much. Jeff eventually took Joseph to where the dragon was. Jeff hopped off to find the others while Joseph looked through the bushes to see it was in fact a Druddigon. It was feasting on a sheep leg at the moment. There were somewhat fresh bones around the entrance of the small cave. (Cringe) You could see why people decide to go vegan. Joseph had to look before he eventually saw a scar on the Druddigon's left shoulder, signaling to him that this Druddigon was the one they were after. After some time Jeff had found the rest of the Scavengers and brought them to the Druddigon.

Harpus: So what's the plan to catch this beast?
Joseph: ...I was kinda hoping you'd think of that.😖
Sheik: No use ambushing the dragon. It's skin is too tough up front. I suggest something to weaken it first.
Jeff: Hey angel kid, you said you had some special weapons right? Any of those work on that thing?
Pit: Um, yeah, plenty of them should. Let me look here.

Pit pulled out his satchel and started going through it for things he had. He occasionally threw something out here and there while looking. Some bits of food, some random knick-knacks here and there.

Harpus: Geez, and I thought Joe was a hoarder. *snickers*
Joseph: Hey!
Pit: No... No... That won't work... Nope...
Jeff: Just how big is that purse?!
Pit: It's not a purse! It's a satchel.
Jeff: It's a purse man. And the heck is half this stuff?
Pit: DON'T! ...Don't kick that Jeff. That's a Smart Bomb!
Jeff: A what?
Pit: Just... don't hit it, ok? Any hard impact, and boom.
Jeff: 😐... Well then why do you leave this stuff around?! Don't you know that some idiot could make war with these kinds if things?!😡
Pit: 😧 Just don't mess with this stuff ok? Alright...
Sheik: Where did you get these things Pit? I don't recognize many of them.
Pit: Well, that's to be expected I suppose. Guess you can say that since I'm an angel I get access to special things😅. You understand, right?
Sheik: Sure. You seem well fitted for a keeper of peace. Many of these are weapons yes?
Pit: No, not many of them actually. Some just help me fight better. Like these Elemental Cards. One of Fire, one of Ice, one of-
Harpus: Yadayada let's get to the good stuff already!
Joseph: Harpus-
Pit: N-no no, she's right. I'm lollygagging. Um... Come on where is- Ha! There we go!

Pit pulled out two objects. One looked grape purple and as big as a tennis ball, and as spiky looking as a pineapple. The other was smaller and shaped like a throwing star. It had a blue colored center while the rest of it was made of a gold colored metal, if not actual gold.

Pit: Ok listen. This seed here is something us angels call Demon Vines. The seed hits the ground, and the vines grow almost instantly. They're thorny and hard to escape from. Angels like me tend to use these to trap opponents or block off entrances or exits. It'll keep that Druddigon here long enough for us to set up this. A Capture Trap. This'll hold that beast and keep it from getting hurt further. I plan to keep that thing in its cave with the vine long enough to set up the Capture Trap. The vines won't last long against the Druddigon, and he's liable to be pretty mad at us once he breaks through. We'll have to lure him into the trap ourselves. Any objections to that?
Jeff: That's pretty smart Pit. I could go down with a plan like that.
Harpus: Sounds good to me! I mean, we ain't got anything else to do.
Sheik: We'll have to be careful. Get too close to that Druddigon and his claws and teeth are liable to hurt us. Too far and that Druddigon will likely use his firepower.
Joseph: He also has wings, so he could try to fly off or try to take advantage of us. Harpus, I want you to try and keep him on the ground alright?
Harpus: Sure. Hey angel boy, wanna help with that too?
Pit: 😨M-m-m-me? Uh... I better stay on the ground with Joseph and Sheik. Someone has to set up the Capture Trap anyway a-and plus I'm the only other one here with combat experience so-
Harpus: Alright alright! I get it! No need to yap and complain about it.
Sheik: *sigh* You really need to work on your manners sometime Harpus. Right, are we ready for this?
Pit: Once the Demon Vine grows, we'll have to move fast. Jeff, it may be best if you stay here where the Druddigon won't see you.
Jeff: Oh sure. Leave me out of all the excitement. I'm so upset about that. Go ahead and break a leg out there guys.
Pit: P-please don't say that when we're fixing to fight a dragon Jeff. 😯
Joseph: *sigh* Right. Does everyone understand the plan?

They all nodded. They were roped into this, so they might as well be ready. Pit explained furher that once the vines were thrown, they all had to hurry into position before the Druddigon broke free. They knew.

Pit: Alright. On 3. 1...2...3. Now!

Pit threw the vine seed and ducked for cover with the others. As soon as the seed hit the ground in front of the Druddigon, it immediately sprouted into a massive hoard of thorny vines. And the Druddigon was FURIOUS. Furious I tell you! Everyone immediately went into position as Pit placed the Capture Trap and set it up. By the time he finished, the Druddigon was halfway through ripping the vines to shreds. It was really quite amazing how fast this dragon could chomp through vines that thick you know? He was ready to tear into a fight now! And he wasn't afraid to fight a few humans and humanoids to show it.

The fight was on!

The Druddigon immediately stomped out as he practically ripped the vines in half. Harpus began dive bombing the dragon Pokémon, annoying it more then it already was. Sheik then used her Sheikah grappling hook and wrapped it around the Druddigon's leg. The dragon noticed this and tried to break away, but Joseph was helping Sheik pull back on the chain. Between Harpus and the hook, the Druddigon was up to here with it all, so he grabbed the chain with his hand and began to fling Sheik and Joseph around trying to hit Harpus. Harpus only let herself get hit so she could get Sheik and Joseph from getting smashed to the ground, but now the dragon was ready to snap. It suddenly felt something energy based hit his back, and it turned to see it was the angel boy. His bow and light arrows didn't scare this monstrosity, and the Druddigon wasn't afraid to show his rage. Before Pit could fully realize it the Druddigon was almost on top of him ready to smash his fists down on the angel. Pit managed to stop them by holding his bow up to block, and it was a successful block at that. However, the dragon doesn't give up easy, so he took hold of the bow on both sides and began trying to push Pit into submission. Though Pit was able to hang on to his bow, he was being pushed farther and farther back. He was this close to being pushed into his own Capture Trap when suddenly the Druddigon let go.

Jeff: Didn't see this coming did ya!? Ya big stupid lizard!
Druddigon: ROAR!!!
Joseph: Oh my God! Jeff!?
Harpus: Is he crazy!?
Sheik: That's kinda the whole point of us helping him Harpus.
Pit: Hold on Jeff!
Jeff: What else would I do, teach it tap dancing!?
Pit: Just keep hold Jeff! Maybe it'll fall into the trap by itself!

The Druddigon was backing up and shaking violently trying to shake Jeff off its back. Its arms were long but they weren't made to reach the back, and its wings nor tail weren't equipped for this situation. And Jeff was actually able to hold on pretty tight. He had his arms around the dragon's neck so I suppose he would.

Harpus: That maniac! He's actually doing it!
Pit: Keep it up Jeff! He'll- Watch out!

The Druddigon suddenly ran back first into a tree to try and get Jeff off, but fortunately Jeff somehow managed to hang on.

Jeff: *groan* Remind me to think twice before doing this s**t again!
Joseph: Jeff, can you stear him at all? Maybe you can lean him closer to the trap!
Harpus: Oh yeah! Let's give him a nudge!

Harpus took to the air and kicked the Druddigon, causing him to stumble backwards. Jeff also tried to pull him back, which did help in making the Pokémon fall back. He was just inches from the trap when Jeff jumped off and Harpus kicked the dragon again, knocking him right into the Capture Trap. The trap immediately activated upon contact, and no matter how much he shook the cage the Druddigon couldn't escape.

Success!

Jeff: *panting* That... is probably the most... what's the word?
Joseph: Insane?
Jeff: *panting* Something like that... (falls on his back and laughs) What a rush though! Haha!

Later

The farmers were shocked and overjoyed that the Scavengers managed to catch the beast. Within the day no less! Joseph received the money for it and thanked them for letting his group help. He hoped Six appreciated this because it was a lot of work and risk going into this. Things could've easily been a lot worse.

Harpus: So um, what do we do with the brute?
Druddigon: (snaps and snarls)
Joseph: Well... We're not killing it that's for sure. I figured we could take it somewhere where it would be happier and undisturbed.
Sheik: Joseph. As great a plan as that is, it's miles from the nearest mountain, and there aren't many uninhabited caves that we know of.
Jeff: *groan* Well, we gotta do something with it! Maybe sell him to some bandits or something.
Joseph: Jeff! This Druddigon is no one's property! He is a living creature just as we are! He deserves his freedom!
Jeff: Jesus Joseph I was joking! Geez!
Pit: Well, we should do something. I... just don't know what.😖

The group was perplexed by this. They didn't quite that paet through before hand.

Joseph looked at the Druddigon. He was calm now surprisingly. And he was looking right at Joseph. His face seem to show confusion and even... worry. It was almost as if he understood what everyone was saying. Something about that tugged at Joseph's heartstrings.

And then, he thought the craziest thing.

Joseph: Maybe we can keep him?
Harpus: WHAT!?!?😲
Druddigon: ???
Pit: Are you kidding?! Please say you're kidding!
Joseph: No I mean it. Maybe we could take care of him like another member of the Scavengers.
Sheik: 😐 Joseph. It is a wild animal.
Pit: It nearly killed us!
Jeff: And my backs hurts from doing the craziest thing any human could do. Your point guys?
Joseph: Listen, I know it's wild but we don't have anything else to do. Any appropriate habitat for it is either in a zoo cage or too far away for us to take him. And think about it. He's strong and intimidating, and we could use someone like that for our group. Besides, we could use a good mascot!😅
Harpus: 😐A dragon? For a mascot? For a group of weirdos? Called "Scavengers"?
Joseph: W-well? Why not?
Druddigon: ...
Jeff: Welp, I don't know about ya'll, but I'm sold. We could use a powerhouse like him around. Keep Ray off my a** all the time.
Pit: Catching a dragon is one thing; keeping a dragon is a whole other level of things! Right Sheik?
Sheik: Well... To be fair, it wouldn't be the first time someone has tamed a Druddigon. And Ray has Rayquaza all dragons! What's a Druddigon compared to that?!
Pit: Uuhhh... *sigh* Well, if Sheik's ok with it, guess I'm ok with it...
Joseph: Harpus?
Harpus: Weeeeelllll... I don't recommend it personally. But hey! You the boss of this outfit! Your say goes. But I got my eye on 'em, kapish?
Joseph: (chuckles) Kapish. So, looks like you're with us pal. Mind?

Joseph went out and held his hand to the Druddigon. The dragon flinched slightly at the movement, but ultimately let Joseph pet him. He even leaned in a little after a bit.

Joseph: Should we name him?
Harpus: Why not?
Pit: How about... Drago or Draco-
Harpus: No no, let's not. It's overused for dragons. 'Sides, I know a dragonoid named Draco. It could get confusing.
Sheik: Maybe... Ryu? It means "strong dragon" right?
Pit: There's a martial arts master named Ryu. We don't want confusion about that either.
Joseph: Hmm...
Jeff: Maybe something like..."Speedy" or "Mirage" or something...
Harpus: Uhh, why?
Jeff: I don't know. He seemed pretty fast out there. For a heavyweight dragon.
Sheik: Well, Druddigons are known for racing through narrow caves for prey. It would be fitting to call him something of that nature.
Harpus: I like "mirage" more. Sounds cooler.
Druddigon: *low moan*
Joseph: Guess he likes Mirage too! Alright, Mirage it is!😊

---

FYI, this is what a Druddigon looks like.

Yeah, good luck taming one of these things.

I mean, that's kinda saying something considering my other name is Dragontamer.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed this chapter! Cheers!🐉
