FOUR. my golden girl

CORINNA DIDN'T remember much from her childhood. Her mind skipped years of her life that she assumed would come back when she was older.

CORINNA JADE BLYTHE — AGE 4
(FIRST DAY ON COMPOUND V)
IMMEDIATE POWERS: CLONING, THE ABILITY TO HEAL INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL WOUNDS
TOTAL NUMBER OF POWERS: 12/12

It wasn't like she wanted to forget. She had no choice but to forget because her parents didn't like the powers she had.

They weren't up to her standards and they got them changed whenever Corinna discovered a new power.

CORINNA JADE BLYTHE — AGE 6
(2 YEARS ON COMPOUND V)
POWERS: THE ABILITY TO HEAL EXTERNAL WOUNDS ONLY, POWER MIMICRY (100%), ???, ???, ???
TOTAL NUMBER OF POWERS: 9/9

With every new power she'd been injected with, her body would grow weaker and weaker. There would never be any sort of power to bring her physical strength back. But that didn't seem to matter to the Blythe's.

CORINNA JADE BLYTHE — AGE 15
(11 YEARS ON COMPOUND V)
POWERS: THE ABILITY TO HEAL EXTERNAL WOUNDS ONLY, POWER MIMICRY FOR LESS THAN 24 HOURS, ???, ???, TELEPATHY, ???
TOTAL NUMBER OF POWERS: 4/???

They didn't stop inject Corinna with Compound V until her parents finally found a way to make their 'Golden Girl' perfect.

CORINNA JADE BLYTHE — AGE 18
(14 YEARS ON COMPOUND V)
POWERS: THE ABILITY TO HEAL EXTERNAL WOUNDS ONLY, POWER MIMICRY FOR LESS THAN 24 HOURS
INJECTED WITH HER FATHER'S POWERS OF DARKNESS MANIPULATION (VARIOUS ABILITIES INCLUDING: ENERGY PROJECTIONS FROM THE SUN, MOON, AND THE STARS)
TOTAL NUMBER OF POWERS: 3/???
NOTE: ONLY ABLE TO ACCESS FATHER'S POWERS WITH BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA OR WHEN IS IN A EXTREMELY HIGH EMOTIONAL STATE, WILL POSSIBLY GAIN BACK PHYSICAL STRENGTH IF DONE CORRECTLY

So when Andre snuck into Brink's to see what Luke had been talking about, he discovered that his brother Sam was alive and being kept in the woods, but he also discovered that Corinna had been repeatedly injected with Compound V until she was accepted into God U.

He quickly took a picture and sent it to her that night before Cate laid in his arms from pushing too hard.

Corinna looked at the picture Andre sent her for hours with Jordan sleeping next to her.

She hadn't know that she'd been injected to that extent. All her memories gone with each dose of Compound V.

And she had no idea until now.

She didn't know how to respond to the news let alone go about her life like she hadn't know what the fuck her parents had done to her.

But then she got a text from Jordan asking to met in their dorm.

At first, she hesitated. She knew what Jordan wanted from the very blunt text, but she was actually going through some tough shit of her own.

But the more she thought about it, the more the thought of her parents practically killing her would slip her mind for just a moment.

So, there she sat on her knees in Jordan's dorm as they complained for the umpteenth time about Marie and the rankings.

Corinna knew how they felt, truly, but she was absolutely sick and tired of her hearing about this damn ranking.

From Jordan to her parents it was ranking this and ranking that.

And at this moment, her fingers probably inches deep in Jordan as they leaned against the weight bench, once again complaining about Marie and the ranking.

Corinna truly thought that if she was here with Jordan they would've actually have sex by now, but no.

"If she's ahead of me when tomorrow's rankings come out, I'm gonna lose my fucking shit." Jordan complained, "That little liar is stealing all of our credit."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and Jordan turned their head towards it. "Go away."

"Jordan, is that you?" The voice asked for the outside.

Jordan quickly grabbed onto Corinna's wrist and pull the girls fingers out of them.

"Honey?"

"Uh, just a second!" Jordan shouted, using their masculine voice.

"God, that's weird." Corinna muttered. "Who is that?"

"It's my parents." They said, sliding off the weight bench and throwing Corinna a towel to wipe her hands.

Corinna quickly stood to her feet. She hasn't met Jordan's parents for various reasons, but mainly because she feared that she would be equally judged for being in a relationship with Jordan.

They knew of Corinna and the relationship that she and Jordan had and the sole reason Jordan has pushed back her meeting her parents was because she overheard Jordan's father asking them, "how does a girl like that love a person who doesn't know what gender they'll be that day".

So, they always pushed the meeting back because "Corinna is sick" or "Corinna just flew back home".

Corinna quickly turned, gently knocking on the neighboring wall and waited for Tyler to poke his head through the wall.

As Jordan quickly cleaned the room, they turned, seeing Corinna rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet.

Jordan sighed deeply, making their way over to her. "Are you okay?" They asked in a hushed tone.

Corinna only turned her head, giving them a small smile. "Yeah, I'm fine... I'll be fine."

"Rin..."

Corinna sighed, cupping their cheeks and kissing them gently. "We'll talk later, yeah?"

Before Jordan could respond, Tyler finally peaked his head into Jordan's room through the walls.

"You knocked?"

Corinna smiled. "I need yours powers... please?"

Tyler rolled his eyes. Not his first time having Corinna tap into her powers and he be damned if he see the end of it soon.

So he pushed his head further into Jordan's room and Corinna smiled, cupping Tyler's cheeks and quickly letting go as her eyes began to shine.

She turned back to Jordan and waved a small goodbye and phased through the wall with Tyler by her side.

Soon, Jordan opened the for their parents, his masculine form awkwardly smiling at their parents, but they held a somewhat genuine small when Corinna made her way behind their parents, waving a small goodbye with a small smile on her face.

Her small smile quickly dropped when she passed the door and Jordan was out of sight.

It was obvious that their parents were here for the #ThinkBrink ceremony, but not really for Brink, but for the people who were gonna be there, the people who were gonna make Jordan a star.

And that's exactly why Corinna was quick to make her way to her dorm, praying to God that her parents weren't waiting outside her door, but alas, there they stood.

She sighed quickly, phasing through the wall to be unnoticed by them and into her room.

Once inside, she threw her bag to the ground and gave herself a look in the mirror. She let out a deep breath and smiled to herself, trying her fucking best to forget everything that she had learned about the people who were supposed to care for her.

Parts of her wanted to forget that she even knew this about herself, but if she did, she be right back at square one. Hell, she didn't even know her father was injected with Compound V until she looked at Andre's text.

Then there was a knock.

She had no other choice but to face them and she rather do it now than wait until she felt like she was going to implode.

She finally turned towards the door and opened it for her parents, a smile on her face as her mother, Claire Blythe, pulled her into a hug.

"God, you couldn't answer the damn door any slower." Claire sighed, pulling back from the hug and looking at Corinna, "We almost called the police."

"Sorry, I was... practicing."

"Hey, that's a good excuse, kid." Her father, Stephen Bylthe smiled. "Doesn't hurt to practice those... magic moves. Especially with all the people who are going to be at Brink's ceremony."

"Um, yeah. I... I, um, one hundred percent agree." Corinna smiled.

Claire frowned, pressing her hand against Corinna's forehead. "Are you okay, sweetie? You seem flushed."

Well, she did just finger her partner mere minutes ago and found out her parents were pretty fucking evil, but other than that... she was just as fine as she was when Luke murdered Brink then offed himself in front of everyone.

"Yeah," Corinna sighed, "I just—"

"She's been working out, Claire." Stephen said, scoffing at his wife's worries. "We know that our Golden Girl is just hard at work to climb back up those rigged rankings." Stephen sighed. "You know, it'd be nice to see you up there in the top three at least, Corinna."

How could he somewhat praise her and belittle her all in the same breath. Calling her "our Golden Girl" to show some sort of care while pushing her to be top three in the leaderboard. She was in the top five and though saying top five sounded better than saying top ten... that didn't matter to the Blythe's.

So Corinna sighed, trying her best not to cry as she pressed herself against her doorframe. "I'm trying my best dad. Um, you know, school's pretty tough at the moment."

"Oh, we know that, Corinna." Claire sighed, taking Corinna's hand and giving in a small squeeze. "Which is why we think it's best you come back with us, just for a few days. Maybe we can see our doctor about getting you some... vitamins or something, just to give you some prescribed vitamin D."

"Or C." Stephen smiled.

Corinna licked her lips. She knew damn well that if she went home with them they would inject her with more Compound V.

"I would have to see if I can do that."

She wasn't going to go back with them, but she couldn't have them knowing that she knew about her own history that she barely had recollection of.

Claire smiled at Corinna. "God, look at you." She sighed, cupping Corinna's cheeks. "My Golden Girl."

Corinna rolled her eyes, tears threatening to fall from her face.

My Golden Girl. Our Golden Girl. Their test subject.

That's all she ever was to them.

"Do you have something to wear for the ceremony tonight?" Claire asked. "Oh my, let's go get us something to wear. We all wanted to be color coordinated for this, so grab your purse, we'll be in the car, the yellow one."

Corinna nodded, licking her lips and watched her parents step away from the door and outside the building.

She desperately wanted to cry, but she couldn't fucking do that, not now.

So later.

IT WASN'T like Corinna had much of a choice when she went out to buy a dress for tonight's event.

She was her parents' Golden Girl and because of that, she would a strapless gold dress that touched the floor and had these two big ass flowers that hit the top of her breast.

Her mother matching her daughter by wearing a sequined gold dress that also touched the floor and her father wearing a basic black suit with a gold flower as an embroidery.

The Blythe's: Another fuck-ass family that faked it till they made it.

Corinna was quickly separated from her parents as they went to talk to some people who could "change Corinna's" life.

Corinna was going to mingle, she didn't even want to be there. It was horrible thing to say especially since her partner had looked up to Brink in ways many others didn't, but she did not want to fucking be there.

She grabbed a drink from the bar, her only free one of the night. She sipped it, her mind drawing back to the photo André had sent her.

That picture was taken in Brink's office meaning that he knew of what her parents had done to her.

What could possibly happen when you're injected with that much Compound V?

Was she going to fucking die?

Corinna quipped her lip to the side and tapped the glass with her brown painted fingernails.

With a heavy sigh, she turned, and right there stood Jordan in their masculine form, wearing a suit.

Jordan smiled down at the girl, taking her hand softly. "You look great."

Corinna smiled as Jordan spun her around.

It wasn't until she finally turned around to face them once more that he saw the tears pricking her eyes.

"What's wrong?" They asked, their face softening.

Corinna sighed. She really did want to tell them, but was this the most appropriate place to do so?

If not now then later, but what if later was too late? What if she just collapsed because of all the Compound V she'd been injected with? What if—

"Corinna?"

"My parents have been—"

"Jordan!"

At the sound of the voice, Jordan shut their eyes and pressed their lips together.

"Oh." The woman smiled. "It's so nice to finally meet you. You're Corinna, right?"

The girl licked her lips and nodded as the woman stuck her hand out for her to shake, which she did.

"And you are?"

"We're Jordan's parents." The woman smiled. "I'm Kayla and this is my husband Paul. It's so nice to finally meet you."

Corinna only nodded. This was the very last place she wanted to meet their parents and yet, this would be the place she would first meet them, just her fucking luck.

"It is... so nice to meet you as well."

"Why don't you join us for a drink?" Paul asked. "Would your parents be interested in joining us?"

"Um, my... parents are busy at the moment." Corinna paused. "You know... mingling."

Kayla only nodded. "That's fine. I'm sure we'll catch up with them."

Corinna and Jordan sighed and follow behind Mr and Mrs. Li.

They didn't chat with Corinna much longer as they began to speak to another man, a man who, of course, could change Jordan's life.

Their father when began to bring up some girl from their past is when Corinna turned, looking over at Jordan who only looked over at the fire that burned next to them.

Corinna gently rested her hand against their knee.

Jordan turned their head slowly, looking over at their girlfriend whose eyes began to shine by the firelight.

Corinna gave them a small smile as Mr. Li turned his attention towards the couple.

"I used to say, "Jordan and Ruby, they're gonna be husband and wife one day." Whatever happened to her, Jordan."

Corinna smiled, her hand still on Jordan's knee. "They met me." She smiled. "And hey, maybe we will be husband and wife, or wife or and wife."

Jordan looked over, their brows still furrowed, but a small smile on their face as Corinna shifted from female to male.

"Maybe husband and wife." She said before shifting back to female. "Whatever Jordan is comfortable with."

Corinna gave Jordan's knee a gently squeeze as she stood, her empty glass in her hand.

"If you excuse me, I think I'll go and try to find my parents." She smiled. "It was... nice to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Li."

Corinna stepped away from the group and brushing past other party members as she found her parents speaking to each other at another table.

She held her eyes shut and began to turn. She knew not to confront them about what she had found out, but she wanted and needed answers on why and how they were able to do such things to her.

"There she is."

Corinna muttered a small "fuck" under her breath and turned back around, a faux smile.

Her father stepped away from the table and towards Corinna, grabbing her wrist and pull her towards her mother.

"We really think that it's best for you to come back home with us tonight, Corinna." Stephen spoke. "We just want you to be taken care of and these are the doctors who have been taking care of you since-"

"No."

Claire furrowed her brows. "Excuse me?"

"I don't want to go home."

Stephen chuckled. "Well, Corinna, we really think-"

"What about what I think?" She asked. "I don't want to go home with either of you. I'm staying at Godolkin."

Stephen looked over at his wife, who gave him a reassuring nod and step forward, grabbing Corinna's wrist tightly.

"We just want to make sure you're okay, Corinna." Claire said, speaking softly. "A lot has happened, you were right. You lost your best friend, your profession... your ranking. We just... want to be there for you."

Corinna nodded slowly, licking her lips as tears threatened to fall. Her mother almost had her. She really did almost pull Corinna in until she brought up her ranking.

"Do you care about me?" She asked. "Or do you care more about my ranking and inject me with Compound V?"

Claire's strength on Corinna's wrist loosened and she looked over at her husband who began to dig through her purse.

Claire awkwardly chuckled and moved her hands from Corinna's wrist to her face to wipe her tears, but Corinna stepped back.

"Corinna... My Golden Girl, how could- why would you ever think such a thing?"

"Are you or are you not taking me to the doctors to inject me with Compound V to strengthen my powers?" Corinna asked. "You want me on top of the fucking leaderboard that badly? Do you know what inject me like that is doing to me?"

"Corinna-"

"I'm not going home with you."

Claire sighed, "But you are."

Corinna furrowed her brows and through the teary corners of her eyes, she saw her father approaching her with something in his hands.

Corinna turned quickly and grabbed her father's wrist and squeezed. She squeezed until he dropped the needle in his hands and he dropped to his knees.

Corinna's eyes began to darken, her irises, pupils, and sclera (the white around her eyes) had all darken, nothing seen but black as she looked down at her father.

"Corinna, let him go." Claire demanded.

But Corinna continued, her father almost proud because he knew what this was. He knew where this was coming from.

Soon, there was a snap and Stephen's arm grew him and broken in Corinna's hand.

Corinna's eyes began to turn back to normal as she dropped her father's arm.

She looked down at him and over at her mother. Corinna's face full of tears as she looked at them. She didn't know she had the strength to do that.

CORINNA BLYTHE: POWERS OF STEPHEN BLYTHE (EX-SUPE) ACTIVE + THE ABILITY TO HEAL EXTERNAL WOUNDS ONLY & POWER MIMICRY FOR 24 HOURS

"I think you need a doctor."

With that, Corinna finally turned. She left her mother dumbfounded and her father proud.

Corinna pushed through the crowd once more and finally settled at the bar.

Jordan, in their feminine form, approached, their hand resting on the smalls of her back.

"Are you okay?"

Corinna raised her brows and downed the drink she'd been given. "My parents have nonstop been injecting me with Compound V and I think I killed my dad's so he can't use it anymore."

Jordan opened their mouth only to shut it and looked over at Corinna. "What the fuck."

"It's a lot to explain..." She sighed. "Are you okay, though? I know your parents are kind of-"

"Assholes?" Jordan finished. "Um, yeah. I'm fine... I'll be fine."

The bartender passed over a shot towards Jordan who, same as Corinna, drowned it.

"Thank you for shifting."

Corinna smiled, "It's you and Li, I meant that."

Jordan looked over at Corinna, their face softening. "Do you want to get married?"

Corinna quickly raised her brows and Jordan began to stutter.

"I- I didn't mean like now!" They exclaimed, "I mean- I meant in like, like the future because of what my dad said, but I wouldn't like, force you to marry me, I- I just-"

Corinna placed a gentle hand on Jordan's cheek, interrupting their rambling. "Someday. If you'll have me." She said softly, her voice full of tenderness.

Jordan softly smiled, a let out a small laugh. They quickly leaned forward to press a sweet kiss to Corinna's lips.

Though, the kiss didn't last very long as Cate approached them. She could practically sense that they had been down prior to kissing each other.

She used her powers to have the bartender give them their most expensive drink before headed towards a smaller, secluded area of the party.

It wasn't long until they had spotted Marie trying to escape from... whoever she was hiding from.

"Hey, Moreau." Jordan called.

"I'm not in the mood, okay?" Marie sighed, "You can attack me in the morning."

"I'm surprised you can walk straight with everyone's tongue lodged up your ass."

"Leave me alone. You don't know shit about me."

"Brownnoser, one-upper," Jordan continued. "Mommy and Daddy's perfect little hero."

Marie paused, turning towards them. "Yeah, well that's definitely not me, because my parents are dead. Because I killed them. You happy?"

"Bullshit."

"I didn't know I had powers until my first period." Marie confessed. "I couldn't control the blood and it's sliced through my mom's body. Dad came in. Same deal."

"Wow." Corinna sighed.

"Yeah." Marie exclaimed. "I'm the last person who thinks they're a hero. I fucking hate myself half the time. And I just spent the entire night being dragged around like a show pony, so I'm in the mood for your shit." She told Jordan.

"Hey," Cate called and tapped the chair next to her.

Marie sighed and took the chair, sitting next to the girl.

Cate went on to explain that she was the reason her brother when messing after telling to never come back. She didn't mean it of course but she didn't know that she had those powers at the time.

But truly, it wasn't Cate's fault that her either went missing. It was her parents who injected her with Compound V. Well, that's how Cate explained it to Marie.

So, it wasn't Marie's fault that her parents were dead. It was her parents. That's how Cate explained it.

"They did this." Cate said. "You didn't. Don't spend a fucking minute crying over them."

Jordan sighed. "I killed my grandpa with my powers."

Corinna furrowed her brows. "No, you didn't."

"Yeah, I know." They smiled. "I was just feeling left out."

Soon, Andre had joined them. He mentioned something about the woods and how he'd partnered up with Marie's roommate, Emma Myers, aka Little Cricket.

The mission was to simple check on Luke's younger brother, Sam and come back with information, but she hadn't been in touch with Andre in a while.

Andre had sent Emma into the fucking woods without any knowledge of how this "small" thing would change their fucking lives.
