FIVE. truth hurts

AFTER CHANGING rather quickly, they began their journey on looking for Emma and potentially Sam.

They found themselves in a pretty abandoned field and all turned when they heard that Marie had found the tracker.

"There's blood in it."

Andre stepped forward. "Maybe this is good. She... she got out of the hellhole."

"It looks like something crashed landed here, Andre." Corinna scoffed, her arms crossing over her chest.

"Maybe Sam can jump like Maeve does?" Andre said. "He landed here with Emma and then jumped again."

"What were you thinking?" Marie asked.

"I had to do something."

"You didn't do shit Andre." Corinna said. "You sent Emma down there and now she's rogue with Sam and hell if we ever find them."

Soon, everyone's phones began to go off. The new rankings had been sent out.

"Andre's number one, Marie's number two." Jordan sighed, still in their feminine form. "I'm still five."

Corinna shut her phone off, shoving it back into her pocket. Yes, she was still at six. She most likely wasn't leaving that spot until something catastrophic happened and she doubt that would happen soon.

"Wow." Marie muttered.

"Congrats." Jordan said.

"Ranking? Really?" Andre scoffed. "We got bigger fucking problems."

"Says number one." Jordan approached. "But you're right, we do. Turns out the school has a fucking Mengele Health Clinic. We don't know who's in on it." They paused. "If... if Brink was, maybe other professors, maybe Dean Shetty. But you guys are gonna get a green van and a talking dog and fucking solve it? You're just gonna end up like that fucking cricket."

"Emma." Marie corrected. "The lost girl who's in deep shit? Her name is Emma."

"Jordan's right." Cate said suddenly.

"Fucking thank you."

Corinna sighed. "It's clear that Emma isn't here and there's no getting in touch with her." She paused. "For now, we wait. She'll either find us... or we'll hear about it on the news."

With her arms crossed, she turned to follow Jordan back to the car.

They would soon follow and head back to campus. Still no sign of Emma and no sign of her coming back.

THE SUN came up the next day and still no sign of Emma.

And though Corinna was concerned about a girl she didn't know, she had her own shit to deal with until someone came back to her about the status of Emma and Sam.

Corinna sat in her dorm, looking at her computer. She hadn't heard from her parents at all. She was pretty sure she had killed her father's arm off and she wasn't sure how. Of course with the information that Andre had sent her gave her some answers.

She didn't really know where to look for answers other than asking her parents, but she didn't trust them. She didn't have any trust in any adult at this point. She only trusted her small friend group.

She sighed, picking up her phone and sending a quick text and threw her phone back down on the bed.

She didn't expect a response that fast. She grabbed her phone and heard a small ping on her phone.

A text from her father simply reading: this should be it.

She clicked the link that her father had sent here and it was literally everything she needed about him. His powers. The powers that she was able to tap into last night.

STEPHEN DUKE BLYTHE: EX-SUPE
HEIR: CORINNA JADE BLYTHE (SUPE)
POWERS: DARKNESS MANIPULATION (WHICH INCLUDES): TELEKINESIS, DARKNESS ENERGY BLAST, DARKNESS ENERGY BALLS, CLAIRVOYANCE, & ENERGY PROJECTION

Corinna furrowed her brows as she read the description of each power that the doctor had programmed in the document that she'd been reading.

She heavily sighed and shut her laptop. She was extremely frustrated and began to grow tired of trying to understand herself. She didn't even know if she fully assessed her powers and she didn't have any way of knowing unless she tried.

But she didn't have time.

She had an interview with Tek Knight, that she did not sign up for, coming up and was supposed to be meeting Jordan there.

Corinna stood up and stretched her arms up before bending down and slipping her shoes on.

She slipped on a jacket and grabbed whatever she needed and made her way outside. She'd seen Jordan already out there in their masculine form and looking down at their phone.

This interview with Tek Knight can go anywhere and she and everyone involved knew that. He had the power to do that. He had the power to do anything he wanted. If he wanted answers he would get them without hesitating and if he did... he was doing it on purpose.

She would try and shake whatever Tek Knight would say off, but for now, she put on a smile and made her way towards Jordan.

She gently grabbed their hand and Jordan was quickly to lace their fingers together. She had a specific scent. She always smelled like chocolate and strawberries, so when she did grab their hand, they weren't shocked or scared because they knew it was her.

Jordan put their phone into their pocket and put their full attention onto Corinna.

Tek Knight knew how to fuck with people and he would get what he wanted without hesitation. He'd play a game with you, but it wasn't for fun and he'd always win at the end.

"Just be careful." Corinna said as they made their way towards their interview. "We all know what he can do. We've all seen it. Be as blunt as possible and make sure you—"

Jordan nodded, squeezing Corinna's hand. "I've got this. We all got this. He'll ask a couple of questions about Luke and it'll be over before we know it."

"And if he ask you about Brink?"

Jordan paused in thought to try and figure out an appropriate way to answer Corinna's question.

"I'll be blunt."

Corinna nodded, gently squeezing their hand before they made it to the their interview.

"Hey." Tek Knight smiled, looking over at the couple. "You two are just in time."

Jordan nodded for the both of them before brushing past Tek and began to led themself and Corinna into the auditorium where their interview was taking place, but Tek was quick to stop them.

"Oh, this will be separate interviews." Tek said, pulling away from the makeup artist. "We don't want any... distractions. Corinna you'll go first. We'll give you a few minutes to freshen up."

Tek moved past the couple and into the room.

Corinna sighed and brushed her hair behind her ears.

"Don't worry." Jordan reassured. "Not exactly what we expected, but this is Tek Knight we're talking about."

Corinna turned to face them. "Yeah, Tek fucking Knight. It would've been better if you were in there with me."

Jordan rested their hands against Corinna's arms. "You'll be fine. I promise."

Corinna looked up at Jordan, her eyes searching their face for any sign of doubt.

It was there, very small doubt.

This was Tek fucking Knight and Jordan wasn't fucking stupid.

But Corinna gave Jordan a small smile and nodded.

Jordan leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, a small gesture of comfort. "It'll be over before you know it."

Corinna nodded once more before pushing the doors open and taking her seat in stage and across from Tek.

She watched as Tek picked at his teeth for a minute or so before drawing his attention towards her.

He smiled bright and pointed towards the cameraman before shifting his happy smile to a serious stern.

"I'm now here with Corinna Blythe." He introduced. "Friends with Golden Boy before his murder-suicide. Now, Corinna, why do you think Golden Boy did what he did?"

"I don't know... I just... so happen to be there when everything happened."

"You were there and you did nothing to stop him?"

Corinna licked her lips, clasping her hands together. "How do you stop someone as strong as Golden Boy?"

"I don't know. Marie Moreau was able to do it and she's a freshman." Tek smiled. "You have the ability to use other people's powers and you're telling me that thought never crossed your mind?"

"No..."

Tek nodded, leaning back into his seat before continuing. "Were you ever jealous of Brink?"

"Why would I be jealous of him?"

"Because he got all of Jordan's attention." Tek smiled, "Whenever Brink needed Jordan, they were there in a heartbeat... but when you, oh Corinna, that day you needed Jordan... Luke was there for you instead."

"Jordan's a very busy person." Corinna spoke carefully. "I was thankful for Luke. He was my best friend and I was glad he was there."

Tek hums. "Does Jordan know?"

"Didn't think this interview was about my relationship."

"It's not... but you would never feel that way about Luke if he wasn't there for you that day." Tek said. "If Jordan gave you an ounce of attention... maybe say I love you, you wouldn't have broken down that day. You didn't do anything to stop Luke because he was there when Jordan wasn't... am I wrong?"

Corinna felt her eyes burning but she'd be damned if she let her tears fall because Tek Knight was able to fucking manipulate her.

So she swallowed her tears and smiled. "You are nothing but a coward. I don't know how you get people to call you a man when you're nothing but a pathetic, arrogant pussy. You know nothing about me, about my relationship with Jordan, or that day with Luke because if you did and if you were a man, you wouldn't use that against me."

Corinna stood, taking the microphone off of her and throwing it in her chair.

"The interview isn't over!" Tek called as Corinna made her way towards the exit.

She didn't bother to answer as she left the auditorium and past Jordan who quickly grabbed her arm.

"Hey, hey." They called. "What did he say?"

Tek knew not to have Jordan and Corinna in the room at the same time as they had their interviews. He wouldn't be able to properly manipulate the situation if they were in the room together.

"Jordan, I'm so fucking sorry." She cried.

She finally let the tears fall as Jordan wrapped their arms around her.

Jordan held onto Corinna tightly as she cried, rubbing soothing circles on her back. "It's okay," they whispered. "Everything will be okay."

They were wrong.

JORDAN'S INTERVIEW wasn't as intense as Corinna's, but it was enough for them to feel angry.

And maybe Tek wasn't as big of an asshole as Corinna thought because he didn't bring up what happened in her interview with him.

But regardless of anger and sadness that people has felt after the interviews, everyone still had to attend classes.

Jordan, now fem presenting, had been sat across the room from Corinna. Their eyes locked onto her as she sat with her arm resting against the table with her head laying on top of it.

She was scribbling down nonsense whenever Marie entered the classroom.

She kept her eyes locked on her notebook and continued to scribble down her mess before Shetty stood before the class and told everyone that Tek Knight would be their guest lecturer.

Corinna sat upright as he entered the room. He claimed that he would be teaching them interrogating techniques that he developed and he picked Marie as his volunteer.

"So, Ms. Moreau," Tek smiled as she took her seat in front of everyone. "you stopped Golden Boy's rampage."

"Not just me." Marie said, "There were others."

"Andre Anderson. Golden Boy's best friend. Whom I noticed, uh, has skipped class today." Tek chuckled. "The two of you make a good-looking couple."

"We're not together."

Tek turned towards the class. "When you start out, you want to establish a baseline and build rapport. Ms. Moreau's body language is open, and she's maintaining good eye contact." He turned his attention back to Marie. "Walk me through that day."

Marie sighed. "I went to see Professor Brink. Luke had already killed him. We fought. He killed himself. I've told this story a lot."

"But, uh... not the whole story. Why were you going to see Brink?"

"I wanted to discuss my class schedule."

"Lie." Tek pointed. "Pupil dilation. See it? It's a classic sign. Why were you really there? Was it to talk about his distaste for you?" Tek nodded. "Bullseye. Heart rate just elevated. Professor Brink only admitted students with impeccable qualifications into Crimefighting. Your powers are, um... nasty. There's no way he would admit you."

"And yet here I am."

"So, not being good enough is a sore spot. What are you hiding?" Tek asked. "What do you know?"

"Nothing."

"He was gonna expel you, wasn't he?"

"No."

"Pretty convenient that he was deep-fried that very same day. Were you in on it with Luke?"

"No. I didn't do anything."

"Now or then?"

"Then. Now. Both."

"Which is it?"

"I-I couldn't stop Luke." Marie paused. "Yes, I went to Brink's because he kicked me out. I saw Luke, and I fucking ran. And the only reason I'm still alive is because Jordan Li and Corinna Blythe held him off long enough for me to get away. Corinna and Jordan are the heroes. Not me."

"And that's how you break a witness folks."

Fuck.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Corinna looked over at Jordan as the class clapped for Tek.

But Corinna quickly stood to her feet, grabbed her shit as quickly as she could as rushed out of the classroom.

Away from the attention.

That was not how she wanted people to find out the truth. In all honesty, she didn't care if anyone knew the truth anymore.

She had finally been content with the fact that Marie and Andre had gathered up all the attention. That Luke's death started with a fight with the two of them and not herself and Jordan.

She didn't want nor need to be praised and dragged around like a fucking dog for trying to calm down Luke.

She didn't want to fight him that day. She didn't want him to die that day. She didn't want him to hurt Jordan that day.

And yet, pacing back and forth in her room, the truth was out.

And all she did was pace.

Until she turned towards her wall. The one where her bed sat.

She made her way over to the wall, a Godoklin tapestry covering it.

She held the corner of the tapestry and peeled it back to reveal several punches to the wall.

Corinna heavily sighed and stared at the punches for a moment longer before there was a small knock at her door.

She quickly sucked up her tears and dropped the tapestry and made her way towards the door.

She opened it and Jordan, still in their feminine form, made their way into the room.

"I can't believe Marie did that." They said.

Corinna shut the door behind her. "I thought that's what you wanted."

"It is... but not in that way." Jordan scoffed. "I mean, she just keeps doing the dumb thing. I don't think that she's stupid. She's not. She's fucking smart and—"

Jordan paused, finally looking Corinna in the eye.

"What?" Corinna called.

"What's wrong?" Jordan asked. "I'm sorry... I should've asked. You-You left immediately after Marie confessed."

Corinna sighed. She licked her lips and shoved her hands into her pockets. "Does this not scare you? Our friend died, this thing about The Woods... and now people know that we fought Golden Boy... but they will never make us the Guardians of Godolkin."

Jordan always tried to be the stronger one in the relationship. They always tried their best to bring comfort to Corinna even if comfort wasn't always something Jordan wanted.

"I'm so fucking scared." They said. "But I don't want you to be. It's the last thing I want you to be."

Corinna nodded. "I don't want you to be scared either."

Jordan leaned in close and gently pressed their lips against hers, a tender expression of their devotion.

Corinna responded eagerly, deepening the kiss and pulling him closer.

When they finally pulled back, Jordan rested his forehead against Corinna's.

She looked over at them as Jordan switched from feminine to masculine, their height now towering over her as they pressed their lips against hers once more.

Jordan's hands slid down to cup Corinna's waist, pulling her flush against them.

Corinna moaned softly, her fingers tangling in Jordan's hair. She pulled him even closer, craving more of the intimacy they were offering. Jordan pressed their body against hers, deepening the kiss and letting their bodies meld together.

Their lips broke apart for a moment, both of them gasping for air. But the respite was short-lived, and they were quickly back to kissing with renewed fervor. Corinna felt a fire growing inside of her, a wild desire that could only be satiated by Jordan's touch.

Corinna let out a small whimper, the sound muffled by Jordan's mouth as they kissed her fiercely. She was lost in the sensation, feeling like she would be consumed by flames at any moment. But she didn't want it to stop.

Jordan carried Corinna to the nearest wall, pressing her back against it. They broke the kiss for just a moment to recapture their breath, their forehead pressed against hers.  Their gazes locked for a moment, the intensity between them almost palpable.

As Jordan leaned in once more, Corinna wrapped her arms around their neck, pulling them closer than ever before. Their bodies molded together as they kissed, each movement more intoxicating than the last.

Corinna's hands trailed down Jordan's back, then lower still, reaching for the waistband of their pants. Jordan groaned into her mouth, their hips pressing forward instinctively. Corinna chuckled lowly, knowing full well the effect she had on them.

Without breaking the kiss, Jordan lifted her up slightly and pressed her even harder against the wall. The air was filled with the sound of their breathing, each exhale more ragged than the last. Jordan's hand trailed down her thigh, sending shivers down Corinna's spine.

Then the door suddenly swung open almost causing Jordan to completely drop Corinna.

The girl quickly jumped down to see Marie and her roommate Emma entering her room.

"Jesus Christ." Corinna muttered, "I can help you?" She asked, tugging her shirt down.

"Sam is going after Dr. Cardosa." Emma said. "We have to stop him."

"He used to work with Brink." Jordan quipped causing the others to turn. "I know where he lives."

"Oh shit." Emma muttered.

WITH THAT said, they had gathered Cate and Andre and made their way to Cardosa's house.

As soon as they entered the house, they had seen Sam, Luke's brother, making his way over towards Cardosa with anger written on his face.

Andre quickly used her powers to move the refrigerator and slamming into Sam's side.

But he pushed it off with such ease and looked over at Andre.

"Sam, Sam," Andre called. "you don't want to do this."

"I know you." Sam muttered. "Y-You... I escaped and you caught me. Y-You're one of them!"

"We didn't know who you were then." Marie said.

Sam turned at the sound of the voice and his eyes panned from Marie over to Corinna.

His hardened look didn't change as he looked Corinna's way.

"They told me you were dead." Sam said.

Corinna furrowed her brows. "M-Me?"

"After they tried injecting my powers into you." He said. "They told me you died."

Corinna had no fucking idea what Sam was talking about. This was her first time meeting him. To her, this was all nonsense.

But she didn't want to escalate the situation any further, so she took careful steps towards him.

"I-I'm not dead, Sam." She muttered. "I'm right here and we all want to help you."

Sam blinked. "You don't remember me." His voiced grew in anger. "They made you fucking forget me!"

"Sam," Cate called. "let us help you."

"No!" He shouted. "You are not touching me again, Cate! Get the fuck out of here! You're all fucking puppets!"

"Sam," Emma approached, her voice soft. "you said I was your hero. Okay? Let me help you again."

"N-No, they're not!"

"The fuck is his problem?" Andre muttered.

"What did you just say?"

With that, Sam turned quickly hitting Andre into the ground, causing a small crater and kicking him into the fire place.

Corinna quickly grabbed Sam's arm to use his powers, but he quickly pushed her off and into the island he'd already smashed.

Corinna quickly stood to her feet and threw several punches towards him which is was able to block and same vice versa.

He was confused. He didn't quite understand Corinna's powers and he didn't know that she had power mimicry. Her sudden strength threw him off for a moment. She was able to collide her fist to his face which threw him back, but he quickly stomped his foot into the ground to stop himself from moving further.

Sam looked up and saw Corinna preparing herself whatever he would throw next. So Sam went charging forward, but was quickly stopped by Jordan.

Sam threw several punches towards Jordan and they grunted at the force, but as Sam threw a punch towards the stomach, Jordan shifted from male to female and used their energy blast to throw Sam threw the glass doors that lead to the outside.

The others rushed outside as Sam staggered to his feet.

"Sam, Sam." Andre called out. "We loved Luke. When we found out he was trying to rescue you, we tried to help."

"Sam!" Emma called and came towards the others, except she was huge... and naked.

She pinned Sam to the ground so he would move and tried to reassure him that everything was going to be okay.

"They're gonna put us back in The Woods." Sam said. "I have to stop them. Why won't you let me stop them?"

"Hey!" Emma called. "Wherever we go, we promised we're in this together."

Suddenly Marie spoke. "Sam, we're gonna make this right. I promise. We'll pr..."

CORINNA TOOK in a deep breath and gently pulled the covers over her naked body. She felt herself waking up and suddenly felt a hand tightening around her waist.

She harshly rubbed her eye and looked up... but it wasn't her ceiling. This wasn't her bed. Hell, this wasn't even Godolkin.

She turned her head and found Jordan lying beside her, also naked in their feminine form.

How the hell did they get here?
