LOKI POV
I swear to the gods, I was going to scream out of pure frustration.
There was still nothing, not even a slightest hint on where Jang was. I had given up on trying to sleep and spent most of my time in the "Mission Control" room, as it had been dubbed by Sabrina.
I was pacing around the room like a mad man, while the girls sat at the table, Abby and Sarah with their heads in their hands while Elizabeth and Sabrina just sat there, thinking. Thor was standing and looking over the maps once more.
"Loki, give it a rest will you? You've been pacing for the past three weeks. Literally. Three. Freaking. Weeks." Abby said, not bothering to look up.
I didn't say anything and I heard Sarah speak up. "Loki, when was the last time you slept for more than half an hour?"
I paused while I tried to figure it out. I just shrugged my shoulders. "I honestly don't know. And I don't care anymore either."
I actually couldn't. I was horrified of what kinds of nightmares sleep would bring. I did my best to avoid them.
But they always found me.
Elizabeth groaned and slouched deeper into the chair. "Let just do another quick recap. Make sure we didn't miss anything?"
Sabrina nodded. "Better than doing nothing. OK so back on Earth, the guys are still looking. No sign there. And as for here, we still have guards searching all the nine realms. No one has reported any sign of them and we have the villagers here looking too. Did I miss anything?"
Sarah was about to say something when Abby unleashed a scream and threw her phone.
"Why!?!?" She screamed.
I ran over to see if she was alright while Elizabeth stood and walked over to the thing Abby had thrown. Elizabeth looked down at it and then looked at Abby in disbelief.
"You were on Wattpad?! Seriously, Abby?"
Abby looked around, a sheepish look on her face.
"What?! Can you really blame me? It's Wattpad, the ruiner of life."
All of the Asgardians in the room looked around, confused and baffled.
"Can't really say anything to that. But still, reading during a strategy meeting?!"
"Oh what's the point of these meetings anyway? We don't know where she is but we do know where she's not. So why aren't we out there searching?"
"Because I can't leave! How many times must I remind you?" I asked, my frustration clear in my voice.
Everyone slumped back in their seats, hopelessness showing on every single one of the faces.
"You know what Jang would say right now," Sarah said. "You know, if she were here? She'd probably be running around all over the place. Not stopping till she solved the puzzle."
I felt a pang in my chest as I realized it was true. "When she latches on to something, she never really let's go does she?"
A small smile appeared on Sabrina's face. "No, not really. She's a dreamer. But she's still very crafty. She'll find a way to keep herself alive." She was trying to sound confident, but it sounded like she was trying to convince herself more than the others.
"Random question. Where the heck is Hel? Why isn't she here, like usual?" Abby asked.
I looked around and saw that she was right. Hel was nowhere to found.
"I have no idea." I stated bluntly.
"Wow, great parenting, huh?" Elizabeth said, sarcasm dripping off of every word.
"Well, I don't pride myself of being a great father, I didn't really have a good example to follow." I said bitterly.
"Loki, that's enough. We need to focus on the task at hand." Thor said.
As much as I hated to admit it, the big oaf had a point. I was about to speak when the doors opened with a bang.
Sif, Hogun, Fandral and Volstagg walked in, looking a bit worn down, but still dangerous. They had been off on some sort of mission fighting the Dark Elves, and I didn't know if they knew I was back on Asgard.
"Thor! It's great to see you again, my friend!" Volstagg boomed.
They hadn't noticed me yet. If I could turn invisible and just sneak by... Nope. Too late. Sif turned and saw me before I had the chance to do anything.
"You!" She lunged at me and had me pinned against the wall with a sword at my throat before I could move.
Why was it that I always ended up in the same position, whatever the situation?
"Hey! Get off of him!" Abby was pulling at Sifs arm, with the help of the rest of the girls.
"Get off, you stupid Midgardians!"
Anger flared in the eyes of all the girls.
"Oh, that's it!" Abby pulled her arm back and punched Sif right in the face. This got Sifs attention long enough for me to escape her grasp. All 5 of the girls were now punching and kicking wildly. Even though it was 4 to 1, Sif was an extremely talented warrior. The men stood around, looking at the group on the floor with bemused expressions.
"Women." Fandral said with a smile.
Hogan turned to look at me and Thor. "Still, why are you here?" He demanded.
I sighed and quickly told them everything that had happened. We had pulled the girls apart by now and had filled Sif in.
"How were the Dark Elves?" Thor asked.
"Very strange indeed. It seems as if they are retreating, after months of relentless attacking." Hogun answered.
That was strange. But I had other, more pressing matters to deal with at the moment. Take Sifs death glare, for example.
"Sif, please, I beg of you. I need your help." I said. I looked at Thor for help. He nodded at Sif in agreement.
Her face softened, but only just. "Fine." She turned on her heel and left the room in a huff.
"We should go after her. Make sure she doesn't destroy the palace on the way back to her chambers." Fandral said with a smirk.
Suddenly, Hel ran into the room, her living side looking flushed. She had excitement in her eyes, but for what reason?
"Hel? What is it? What happened?" I asked.
"Father, I was over looking my realm, making sure everything was as it should be. And I found something!" She paused trying to catch her breath.
"What is it, darling? What did you find?"
"Three beings. Two are very strong and one is very, very weak. They were hidden very very well. A dark magic, unlike any I'd ever seen."
My heart raced. Was it true? Could it really be her?
"Hel, are you sure?"
She looked at me and nodded.
"Father, I've found them."
"That is wonderful! We must go tell The Allfather at once!" Thor boomed. He began to walk to the door but I thrust my hand out, closing it before he could leave.
"No!" I said.
"No? Loki what are you talking about? We have to go to Niflheim, right now! This is our one chance to get Jang back!" Sarah cried.
"Who said we're not going to Niflheim?" I said, a smile on my face.
Confusion was clear on everyone's face.
"Loki, I know that look," Sabrina said, accusation in her voice. "What are you planning, Liesmith?"
"Odin gave me strict orders about me and where I could and could not be. He said I could not leave the palace, but he never said anything about me going to a different realm."
"Uh, hold on. Time out. That doesn't really work out." Elizabeth said.
"Yeah." Abby chimed in. "Wouldn't you have to leave the palace in order to get to the Bifrost in the first place?" she asked.
"There are many secret and undiscovered passages between realms, milady." I answered.
Silence fell across the room as everyone thought about the idea.
"What are we waiting for then? We have a rescue mission to plan." Elizabeth finally said.
I smiled. "Very well. My friends, we're going to Niflheim."
Fandral groaned and rubbed his temples. "This sounds horribly familiar."
JANG POV
I sat in the cell, trying not to focus on the pain. I stopped trying to keep track of time as a distraction. I had no need, no use of time.
But time always found me.
I didn't sleep anymore either, terrified of the horrors that would follow if I closed my eyes.
But they still found me.
There was no escape.
My wary heart tried multiple times to stop, only to have me forsaken, deranged mind urge it on just a little longer.
Why bother?
But something was different.
He was planning something. The tortures were relentless, not ever seeming to end. He seemed determined to break me now more than ever.
I didn't know why. But I knew that something was going to happen.
Something big.
The end of this horrible imprisonment was nearing.
And I wasn't sure if I would get out of it alive.
And so it begins...
