"Please, Sirius, it's not even for a day."
Sirius sighed as he looked at your daughter, who was happily munching on a lollipop while playing with daisies in his garden.
Just before the war started, you decided that having a one night stand with your ex-boyfriend was a good idea. It wasn't. And you ended up pregnant while he wanted nothing to do with the baby.
You wanted to get rid of the baby at first but the moment you heard your daughter's heartbeat, it was over for you. You already loved her with everything in you and you knew you would protect her forever. So just a couple of months before Harry James Potter was born, your daughter Avia Briar L/N was born.
She was a little bundle of joy and luckily, she looked just like you and not your ex. Sirius fell in love with her immediately, always being protective of her and Harry, but babysitting Avia for a whole day by himself made Sirius shudder in fear.
"But-but I'm not good with kids. I'm gonna drop her or burn her or something!-"
You placed your hands on his shoulders. "Sirius, she's a three year old toddler, not a murderer."
"A terrifying three year old." Sirius shivered.
"To think you're more scared of her than you were of the war. If you're this scared, poor ol'
Pettigrew would have definitely dropped dead by now." you teased with a smile as he rolled his eyes.
"I wouldn't even let him look at Avia, you know that." he assured you as he brought you in a tight hug, his lips on your head. "He's in Azkaban and he's never getting out. Never."
"I know Sirius," you said as you looked at him with a soft smile. "I know."
There was a few seconds where neither of you spoke befofe you broke the silence. "Sooo, will you take care of Avia for a day?" you asked with a cheeky smile.
Sirius threw his head back with a bark if laughter before calming down, his cheeks rosy. "Yes, but don't come yelling at me if i break her."
"You won't." you assured him as you peered outside and called your daughter. "Avia, come here sweetheart."
She looked up at the sound of your voice, her face immediately breaking into a smile as she dropped the daisies she was holding and ran inside, immediately jumping into your awaiting arms. "Mummy, can I have another lollipop?" she stuttered a little, an adorable frown forming on her face.
"Of course, baby. But mummy has to leave for a bit, but Sirius is going to stay with you until I come back." you smiled at her.
Avia nodded, not particularly interested in what you were saying as she put her arms out and gestured for Sirius to take her. He huffed, amused, as he gladly took her in his arms and kissed her all over her face, making her giggle.
"Okay then, have fun." you trailed off with a chuckle as you realized they weren't even paying attention to you anymore. You shook your head with a smile as you left Sirius' house, in a hurry to get to a late lunch with Lily, Alice and Marlene.
"What do you want to do, pup?" Sirius asked the little angel in his arms, who was playing with the buttons on his shirt. Avia looked up at him with wide eyes before they brightened, a clear sign she was up to no good. Oh no.
"Paint!" she yelled as she squirmed in Sirius' arms before he finally let her go. She ran to a blank white wall in his living room and pointed at it. "Paint!" she said with a triumphant smile.
Sirius' smile fell as his eyes widened in horror. "You want to paint the wall in my living room." he asked, but his question sounded more like he was confirming it to himself. When Avia nodded with a determined expression, Sirius quietly whispered to himself. "Shit."
"Shit." Avia repeated after him.
"No! Avia you are not allowed to say that, pup!" Sirius exclaimed with wide eyes. "Only grown ups can say that!"
Avia looked at him a little before tilting her head and smiling widely. "Shit."
Sirius ran a hand over his face as he crouched in front of her. "If I let you paint the wall, will you please forget that word?"
Avia thought for a second, her eyebrows drawing together. "And ice-cream."
"What- no! We only agreed to painting!" Sirius argued.
Avia narrowed her eyes as she said slowly, carefully pronouncing every syllable. "Shit."
"Fine!" Sirius threw his hands in the air, a breath escaping him as Avia smiled widely and skipped to a room when Sirius kept stuff from when he renovated his house, including colorful paint. "Little manipulative princess." he muttered to himself, making sure she didn't hear him this time.
Minutes later, after a lot of struggling, Sirius helped Avia bring all the paint he owned in his living room, in front of his blank wall.
Without wasting time, Avia got a paintbrush from the kit she brought with her - almost as if she knew they were going to paint today - and dipped it in red paint. She stuck her tongue out a little in concentration as she tried - and failed - to paint neatly.
Sirius shook his head in amusment as he took one of the bigger brushes that he had in his house and dipped it in blue paint. The both of them stood there, painting for an hour or so and Sirius was beginning to think that this was easy - a little too easy.
"Aha!" Avia made a sound of triumph as she stepped back from her painting, looking at Sirius giddily. "Do you wike it?"
Sirius looked away from what he was painting - he was painting several flowers and they surprisingly looked good - and crouched down next to Avia, looked at her drawing.
There were three stick figures, not the best but good enough. Each of them were drawn with a different colored shirt. He slowly realized it was you, Avia and him all together, holding hands.
He grinned as he brought Avia to him, kissing her cheek lovingly. "I love it, pup." he smiled when she giggled. "Now how about we eat something, huh?"
"Ice cream?" Avia asked, eyes wide, as Sirius stood up with her in his arms, his arms holding her while her arms were around his neck, holding tightly.
Sirius chuckled. "You haven't forgotten about that, have you?" when Avia shook her head no, he smiled. "We'll eat some real food first, then some ice cream."
Avia grumbled a little but stopped complaining when she saw Sirius taking some pasta - her favorite pasta ever - out of the fridge and using magic to heat it up quickly.
Sirius ruffled her hair as she ate all the pasta that was in her plate, and chuckled when she looked longingly at his half full plate.
After they finished eating, Avia made sure to remind Sirius that she was promised some ice cream and he begrudgingly agreed and gave her some ice cream.
Seeing as it was already late, Sirius decided that they should eat ice cream on the couch while he read Avia a story.
"... and that's how the princess fell into a hole. Now Avia, you need to be careful over what you trip, see how she fell into a hole-"
"I'm tired, dad." Avia muttered lazily, her head on his shoulders and her ice cream long forgotten on the table.
Sirius immediatly tensed, looking down at the girl who was half asleep on him. "Sweetheart, what did you say?" he asked quietly.
"I'm tired, dad." Avia mumbled again, snuggling further into him.
Sirius took a shaky breath. "Go to sleep, pup. I'll be right here."
And she did. While Avia slept, Sirius was awake, thinking of what she called him. Dad. It was a strange word for him, he was never allowed to call his father that. Sirius' heart filled with warmth when he realized this little girl, sometimes the only one who could brighten up his day - besides you - considering him her father, her family.
It was two hours later that you arrived to at Sirius' house, smiling happily. The house was slightly lit when you entered and you smiled when you saw the painted wall. You then looked towards the couch where you saw your daughter asleep on a very awake Sirius.
"Sirius?" you asked gently, concerned with how quiet he was being.
"She called me dad."
You stopped in your tracks, dumbfounded. "What?" you asked, and sat down next to Sirius, careful not to wake your daughter up.
He looked at you and swallowed hard. "She called me dad. I'm sorry-"
"Don't apologize Sirius. You've always been there for her and I'm quite suprised she hasn't called you that earlier." you told him.
"But- you aren't mad?" he asked incredulously. "I- she's-"
"Sirius, does it bother you?" you interrupted him.
"No, of course not. But I don't deserve her, you. I don't-"
You stopped him as you kissed the edge of his mouth, immediately shutting him up. He looked at you dumbfounded, his eyes wide as he was still careful of the sleeping child in his arms.
"You deserve the best, Sirius Black."
