Episode 1.2: Pretty In Power
~~~🌙~~~
Andi stared into the space book, envying the pretty constellations and dreaming of the silver moon and of course, the perfect galaxies. It seems so perfect, so beautiful, so completely out of her reach.
The closest thing she'd ever get to ever seeing the big stars and going there would simply be in books or her Astrology Club, where they talk about zodiac signs, horoscopes and all the planets of the world, which could all be summed up into "Wish I was there."
Andromeda closed the book and stowed it into her book bag as she walked.
She kept checking her home after two minutes, her own parents left her on delivered, even though she asked them to do the bare minimum and pick her up from her club!
Andromeda grit her teeth as she zipped her jacket and began to walk all the way home.
She could try calling a cab to drive her home or just talk to the school about getting a bus so that she doesn't have to deal with this crap. But then again, they're too busy with their ''perfect'' daughter.
Andromeda played with the star on her choker. The wind blew harder and as Andromeda kept walking, the fourth spirt of the day watched Andromeda from the back of her head, shivering and muttering curse words to herself. She closed her eyes and took deep breaths as she marched on the sidewalk.
The fourth spirit got in front of her and entered her star-bunny trinket. As soon as they entered, they popped out of there, appearing like Andi's trinket, a cute blue bunny with big alien black eyes and big stuffed arms floated around with its tiny antennas with stars.
"Hello!" The bunny waved, Andromeda opened her eyes and stared at the bunny before backing away slowly, "Who are you?"
"I'm a friend!" The bunny replied excitedly as Andromeda glanced the way to school and quickly ran away. The bunny's ears flopped. "Oh..."
Andromeda hid behind the school wall and took a deep breath. Okay, so she's going crazy. There's a bunny that came out of her choker, talking about friendship and all of that weird crap. Did she eat something weird? God why is this her life-
"Hey there!"
"Shit, don't scare me like that!" Andromeda growled as the bunny floated and twirled around and around in the air, Andromeda grabbed the creature like a stuffed animal. "Okay, what in the hell are you?"
"I'm a spirt! :3"
"I think that's dead people." Andromeda stated bluntly as she bends down one knee as Bunny laughed. "No, silly! That's ghosts. I'm a spirt, unless ghosts. I can haunt and process wherever I want to go and until that item breaks, we're gonna be friends!"
"I have 5 best friends; I don't need any more." Andromeda glared, "And why should I trust you?''
"Well, I can give you some pretty good tricks. Tricks that can help you out in times of crisis." Bunny nods their head slowly as Andromeda raised an eyebrow. "How exactly?"
"Well, it's quite cold here, and I'd bet you would like to be back in your home, all snuggled up right?" Bunny questioned and batted its eyes as Andromeda rolled her eyes but nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it's cold."
"Well then I can help, if you allow me to! I can create mythical pathways for you! You can enter and leave as you please to wherever you want!" Bunny's eyes sparkled with big twinkly stars. Andromeda crossed her arms, but she picked up her chin.
''Anywhere I want, huh?" Andromeda mumbled. That could be fun. All of the places she could and be by herself. A place, far, far, far away from her family? Sounds perfect! But now she's in desperate need of sleep.
"Fine. Just show me out it works." Andromeda grumbled as Bunny chirped up. "Okay!"
They quickly went back into the trinket and let out blue sparkles, Andromeda glanced at her hands as they glow a gentle blue, Andromeda got spooked and threw the blue down, but to her shock, when she smashed whatever purple magic in her hands to the ground, a portal opened up, filled with stars, pixels and other shiny things.
She closed her eyes and gulped. This better take me home. She grumbled as she jumped through the portal! If this takes to some other world filled with evil monsters, she's strangling that bunny.
~~~🌙~~~
As Andromeda fell though the portal, the walls looked like a galaxy came to life with all of the big stars and the planets, pixels floating and swirling around her as she kept falling deeper and deeper, Andromeda looked down as she kept falling, it was a pitch-dark hole, and her hands kept glowing blue again, she threw the blue thing just like last time and now there's a new portal at the end as she kept falling and falling...
On the other side, she popped out and landed on the hard floor, she looked up around her in total confusion, the room had galaxy-painted walls, pictures of her friends from their trips from mall and rollercoasters, and to the right of her she saw her bed, covered with the same galaxy-printed colors and decorated with star-throw pillows.
Andromeda quickly slapped herself in the face and winced at the pain before she realized; That wasn't a dream. She looked at her choker as a light purple came out of it, she rolled her shoulders back.
It wasn't some dream! She actually used a portal to get back home! "See, we're back at this wonderful home of yours!" Bunny cheered as Andromeda stood back up, dusting herself off.
Andromeda stood up and took off her shoes, place them in the closet and sat down on her bed to quietly think about all of this.
She used actual portals to get back home, as she grasped this info, someone loudly knocks on the door, snapping her out of the daydream, she groans, Bunny gasps and quickly goes back inside of her choker.
"Come in!"
The door slowly opens, as Andromeda's older sister, Aditya, came in, even in basic comfy clothes, her perfect curly brown hair was in a nice ponytail and had cute little sun clips in her hair, she smiled softly at her sister. "H-hey Andi!" She waved; Andromeda glared at her. "What?" Her voice sounded venomous.
"Nothing! I'm just checking in on you, how'd you been?" She smiled nervously as Andromeda rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
"I had to walk home in the cold because mom and dad forget that they have a second daughter." She states bluntly.
Aditya sighed and closed the door behind her. "Oh, yeah... Uh, hey! Maybe you call me whenever I'm done with my stuff, and I can pick you up?"
"Uh, I'll think about it." Andromeda shrugged as Aditya smiled.
"Okay, great." Aditya smiled and closed the door as Andromeda sighed to herself.
She definitely isn't telling anyone about the magic portal! Who knows what could happened, especially if her parents learn about it? The worst thing they'd ever done, pay attention to her.
No, she needs to deal with these newfound powers on her own, maybe she could tell her friends, but until she figures it out, she's on her own for now.
~~~❄️~~~
The skating rink was a place of beauty in its original form and shape; it's like watching Angels on Ice. Frostina held on to her doll watching the other skaters jump and twirl around like graceful ballerinas.
She couldn't wait for her turn on the rink soon enough, every passing second felt like torture just watching and not being able to participate on the fun. When it was her turn to shake, she had to hold herself from falling all over the place.
She put on her skates, tied up her hair into a big puff and began to walk towards the skate area as she took a deep breath and did her thing. Every jump was tied perfectly, every spin was always done in the middle and every slide was precise.
It felt as if she was in her own world. "Okay! Frostina? That's good work today."
Frostina looked at the coach, Ms. Sweets who gave two big thumbs up at her, Frostina skated over to the edge of the rink.
"Thank you, Ms. Sweets." Frostina nod her head, "Is it okay if I keep on practicing?"
"Oh of course, there's nothing greater than sheer grit," Ms. Sweets smiled and glanced at Frostina's arm, "But besides Grit, what is this lovely bracket you have on?"
Frostina glanced down at her teal and white fox charm bracelet and looked back up, "Uh, yes. I bought it today; someone was selling it for 20 dollars, and I wanted to have it."
Ms. Sweets nod her head and give a sweeter smile then before, "Okay dearie! Well, I'll let you skate around here for about..." Ms. Sweets bit her lip, "20 minutes, but when you're done, you have to close the gate afterwards and turn off the lights, okay?"
Frostina nodded as Ms. Sweets smile and walked away.
Frostina pushed herself from the orange wall and began to skate around the rink again, the only sound being heard was her skates crossing the floor.
Frostina moved over towards the center and began to spin like she'd spun before, with her arms up and straight in the air like a rocket preparing for lift of, and as she kept spinning and jumped, began to skate and twirl all over, that's when the fifth spirit floated down from the metal celling, the ball noticed the girl's movements, how fast she seemed to skate, her eyes closed, enjoying the movement.
The ball got curious and began to follow her movements as she skated around the rink a few times, coming close to the pretty teal and sliver bracelet she wore, before backing away when pulled her arms forward, when her arms were at a neutral position, it took the chance it got and stuck itself inside of the charm bracelet.
As Frostina began to jump and twirl, something popped out of her bracket as she's twirling and whirling around, she jumped for the last time, reaching out her hand in a stylish pose, arching her back.
"Wow..." A voice called out, Frostina paused her movements and turned her head, who was that? Frostina kept looking around, not seeing anything when she looked down, covering her mouth in shock.
A fox? And not just any fox, a large one with pastel teal fur and those big vintage eyes with long eyelashes and big cartoon-like eyes, Frostina began to back away, but since she was skates, she slips and falls on her back.
"Ow...." She winced as the fox whimpered and jumped on her back, "Are you okay?"
Frostina groaned and blinked, "I think I gain a concussion. Foxes are wild animals. They don't talk."
"Well, I'm not technically a fox if that makes you feel better, I'm nothing more than a humble spirit that wandered this human plane for over 116 years."
"Only 116 years? That's a bit young for spirts, don't you think?" Frostina raised an eyebrow, the fox pouted, "I'm sorry that I'm not older than you expect, but make no mistakes, I know quite a lot about this world, way more then you could know."
"Well, of course, you know about the 2000s better than me, because I wasn't even born then, but you're still young in a sense." Frostina pointed out as Dog sighed and placed their paw at Frostina's mouth, making her quiet.
"Enough! Now, here's the deal..." The Fox hopped off of Frostina's lap and sat down on the ice, quietly sliding away from Frostina.
Frostina chuckled a bit as the fox huffed, "Now, you see there? That bracelet you have on? From now on, until you die, the bracelet breaks, or I get taken out of it, which would be impossible, trust me, the last time someone try it with uh, an "old friend" Things didn't end well, but basically, you're stuck with me."
The dog chirped as Frostina began to take off her bracelet and stare at it, maybe she should break it, she can just get one that doesn't have a spirit haunting it, but then again, the whole ghost possession is .
"Mm.." Frostina pondered as she placed her bracelet back on her wrist and raised an eyebrow. "I guess that make sense, so can you tell me your name?"
"Oh, I don't have one." Dog explained, "I'm simply just a spirt, so there's no need for names or anything, if anything I find them to be-
"What about Flurry?" Frostina shrugged, Fox stared at Frostina and let out a big gasp, "What? You think that would fit me? Flurry of all things?!"
"Well, yes. You're fluffy and you feel quite cold, and you just came out of nowhere, like a flurry." Frostina explained as the Fox raised their paw to defend this nickname that this human just chooses for them, as if they're just some Fox!
Dog looked at themselves and sighed, "Fine! I guess Flurry is a fine name, but I still don't like it." Frostina smirked a bit and pet Flurry on the head, Flurry sighed and cleared their throat.
"Anyway, now that you've told me that, it's time that you learn the basics of your ice powers! If you're going to use them, you might as well use them right."
Frostina nodded her head slowly as Flurry walked over to the center of the rink as Frostina slowly got up on her skates and maneuvered over to the center of the rink. "I hope I know what I'm doing here." Frostina mumbled towards herself.
~~~❄️~~~
In order to use her ice powers properly, she had to use certain hand gestures and movements to use the ice probably, when Flurry hopped back into her bracelet, Frostina could feel the ice building up inside of her, as her hands felt colder, she quickly began to swipe her hands towards the right, as a small ice blast came out of her hands.
Frostina gave out a small smile as she watched a few snowflakes form from her fingertips, she kept on sliding around, even when touching the orange boundaries, a bit of frost was marked there, growing just a bit. Frostina smiled towards herself as she let out a breath, being able to see her own breath in the pure cold. She finally left the rink, taking off her skates for her black Mary janes.
As she did so, her phone went off, she picked it up. "Frostina."
"Yes Mother?"
"How did the skating go?" She asked.
"It went fine, I wanted to practice more, that's all."
"Good, we have food at home, Mr. Janko created your favorite, Lasagna and Spaghetti." Mother stated, Frostina nodded her head and smiled, "Thank you, mother, uh what about Mom? How is she doing?"
"Oh, she's fine, just some money problems we have to sort out, but we'll be back to you soon, I promise." Mother said, Frostina could hear the sweet smile on her face. Frostina sighed happily. "Okay, I love you Mother."
"I love you as well, take the bus home today and stay safe."
Mother stated as Frostina nod her head and hung up the phone, Flurry popped out of her bracelet, "Who's that?"
"One of my moms, Mr. Janko, my butler told me that he made Lasagna and Spaghetti tonight, I can't wait to eat." Frostina smiled small as Flurry nod their head, "I see I see; food is one of life's good traits."
"Yes, but now you should hide in my bracelet again, I don't need anyone to give me any looks as I go about my day."
"Rude, but fair enough." Flurry popped back inside of the bracelet as Frostina nodded her head and began to leave the ice room, turning off the lights as she was told to do by Ms. Sweets.
Frostina walked out of there, holding her head up high as she heard police sirens chasing villains and crooks, she glanced at her wrist and kept on walking. She should do something about the chaos in her town, there's no doubt it might get worse. It's best she just heads for now, but the thought still lingers.
Maybe she could do something about the chaos in this town, but it's best that she heads home for now.
~~~🏵️~~~
The gym is always a good place to work out and gain muscles, especially if you're someone like Poppy who tends to not be in the best shape physically. Sure, she wasn't overweight or super-duper skinny and she did try to eat right, but a bit of muscle couldn't hurt.
Grandpa did mention that working out is always good for the brain and for the body. As Poppy changed into her sportswear, a black sports bra, some patchwork sweatpants with her hair typed up in a wrap.
Of course, she'd made sure to avoid some of the weird guys in the gym and choose to be around the nice old ladies near her apartment building, especially Ms. Maple.
"Hi Ma'am, how are you doing today?" Poppy smiled easily as Ms. Maple sighed and placed her hand on her cheek, "Oh not good, my place got robbed a few days ago."
"Woah, major bummer, what did the thief take?" Poppy asked.
"Oh, I suppose nothing serious, but he did take an old recipe I had framed, it's been in my family since my mama was a little girl, but now it's gone, the police say they'll try to find it soon."
Poppy's hands gently balled up into fists, the cops here may try but they'd forget about it, just like the rest of the stuff, especially if it came from Sapphire City, they'd just leave it be, with no "sorry" to fix it.
Poppy gave Ms. Maple a hug and smiled, "Everything will be okay, but if you don't feel good being at your home, you can come over to my apartment, my dad and grandpa are really great cooks, maybe some gumbo could make you feel better?"
"Mm, you had me at gumbo, young lady," Ms. Maple pinched her cheek as Poppy giggled and began to near some of her workout stuff with dumbbells and lifted stuff, though Poppy would always never figure out the proper name for all of the stuff she did.
Either way, it's always good to try her best and built-up strength.
~~~🏵️~~~
10 minutes went by as Poppy attempted to lift dumbbells up, and doing some other pulling actions, it clearly works up a big sweat on her part, and how she tended to not be able to lift much. But what didn't help was seeing those big, slightly buff guys snickering at her as she went about her day, er, workout.
Poppy sighed and kept on going, trying to make sure she was focusing on herself. After a while, she got tired and marched over to the bathroom to wash her hands.
In the bathroom, she took a deep breath, letting the cold water take away the hot sweat from her hands. "Okay..." She whispered towards herself, closing her eyes. Those weirdos' voices felt so uncomfortable and so rude.
They didn't say anything, but the way they laughed and snickered at her didn't make her feel good. The cold water kept on running as Poppy tried to calm herself down, the final spirit appeared.
Watching Poppy closely, feeling her very calm aura, it circled her face, she didn't flinch. The Spirit noticed the necklace she wore, a small, cute ram as the emblem center when the spirit inhabited it for the time being. Poppy opened her eyes and took another deep breath again. She just needs to ignore them.
"Oh, if I hear you say one nastier thing, I'll smack ya!" A voice called out as Poppy sighed and walked out of the bathroom, she glanced over to see those same burly guys that laugh at her as she went about her workout
"Oh yeah? What are you gonna do, granny?" One of them taunted as Poppy could see the fight light up in Miss. Maple's eyes.
Oh boy, this sucks. The buff guys glared at Ms. Maple as Poppy quietly walked over towards where she was and began to hold her soft wrinkly hand.
"It's okay, Ms. Maple, I'll handle it."
Ms. Maple raised an eyebrow, "You sure baby?"
Poppy glanced at the mean guys, one of them smirking as she took deep breaths. "Look, I don't know what you're going through, but either way, can't you just leave everyone here alone, you're kind of ruining the vibe here."
"Psh- or what? What are you gonna do about it little girl?" The big guy leaned in Poppy's face, she could see his very greasy face, which made Poppy uncomfortable.
So uncomfortable that, out of instinct, pushed him away. Of course, she'd just think he would get angry and attempt to grab her by the shoulders.
Although she wasn't expecting him to go so far back that he also trips over a few exercise bikes, falling unconscious.
Poppy blinked, Ms. Maple started as a few onlookers stood and watched as well as Poppy looked at her hands.
She didn't expect that.
The second guy freaked out, "Ah man! Wait, I'll help!" He rushed over towards his friend as Poppy stood there, gob smacked, everyone just stared at her as she looked around her.
"Uh, sorry?" She winced nervously.
Ms. Maple held her hand, "How about we go?"
Poppy nodded her head, never thinking she'd be happier to leave somewhere.
The two quietly walked out of the gym, the elder lady holding her hand as Poppy followed her.
~~~🏵️~~~
Ms. Maple was kind enough to walk Poppy all the way to her apartment where Poppy opened the door. Poppy asked if Ms. Maple wanted to come in, but she shook her head.
"It's alright, maybe tomorrow I'll go." Ms. Maple smiled as Poppy walked off to her apartment.
When she came in, taking off her sneakers, Grandpa was at the table, reading his email while her dad cooked.
They both looked up at her, "Ah, Poppy! How was the gym? Everything go okay?"
"Uh, sure, you could say that... probably?"
Poppy shrugged, giving a strained smile as her grandpa looked over at her.
"Really? Nothing of note happened?" Grandpa asked, as Poppy oohed.
"Well, I did see Ms. Maple today at the gym, we worked out a bit together. She told me she lost a recipe though."
"Oh." Grandpa cleared his throat, a small blush on his face as he kept reading, "Well that's nice. I'm glad she's doing well."
Poppy smiled to herself; oh Grandpa, Grandpa, you're a bit too obvious.
Poppy was about to walk upstairs before her dad asked, "Ah, Ah, ah! What are we forgetting?"
Dad extended his arms out as Poppy smiled and hugged him back, her eyes shifted towards the left as she let go and ran upstairs, and pulled the trap door, going into her bedroom.
Walking on the nice wooden floor and landing right into bed felt so comfy, today felt so confusing.
How did she do all of that? Sure, she'd never been super-duper weak, but there's no way she should have pushed a fully grown man away.
Something felt a bit fishy. Poppy sighed and held on her pillow, just thinking when she looked at her Jade necklace, a bright light flashed at her, blinding her a bit.
When Poppy opened her eyes, a grumpy little ram was on her bed with a big fluffy head glaring at her. "Geez, you're a big pushover you know that?" The ram snapped, "That Ugly human that tried something with you and you just closed your eyes?"
Poppy blinked and tilted her head. "Woah... who are you little fella?" Poppy reached a finger to pet the ram as the ram backed away. "No touching. "
"Okay." Poppy retracted her hand, "What's your name, friend?"
"I don't have a name; I'm simply a spirit that has wandered this plane."
"Oh, that kind of sounds sad." Poppy's eyes filled with pity, "Well, can I call you Rambo?"
Rambo gave the side-eye but then Poppy gave big puppy eyes, Ram didn't care one bit, but they sighed. "Fine, Rambo it is."
Poppy chirped up, "Cool, so what were you doing in my necklace, man?"
Rambo placed their hooves on their waist, "Well, due to your somewhat stability, I now inhabit the necklace that you wear, no matter where you go, I'll always be there. And I grant you utter strength and use it as you please."
"Huh. So, then you gave me strength to push that guy away? Okay, that makes sense." Poppy nodded her head as Rambo stared at her confused.
"You know, I'm sure most humans would be reeling from this information, but you seem weirdly calm about all of this. Why?"
Poppy paused for a moment. Maybe she should be more scared and worried. She should be, maybe that's the right call. But protecting Ms. Maple with those powers? Now that felt good. If she could use her powers for good, maybe she could help those who needed it.
Yeah.
"I don't know. But, my dad always tells me to keep an open mind, no matter what." Poppy smiled. Rambo nodded with confusion as Poppy giggled towards herself.
It seems like life is going to be interesting.
All of the girls, at their own homes laid in their bed, touching their accessories, tossing and turning.
The powers were cool and interesting, that's for sure. But what can they do? What's the next step? Well, there's a next step, but will any of them take it? What would be the big push that drives them forward?
I guess we'll find out next time!
