Side chapter 3: How Kurai lost his clothes
Hehe another side chapter~ it's not connected to the main story line it's just something that happened a few weeks after Kurai and Hikari met~ I like adding small details in the main plot that allows me to do the side chapters X3 .... Oh Kurai.... Just so innocent.
Kurai POV
I've been with Hikari for a few weeks now... He's taught me so many things.
I looked over towards my snowy haired friend, he was packing a few red bags with many old pieces of trash that we had come across. Hikari told me that they were valuable items that were worth a lot but I didn't believe him, they just looked too ruined.
"Kurai stay here while I go sell this stuff"
Hikari said after he had zipped up the bag and slung it over his shoulder, I frowned I didn't like it when Hikari left me alone.
"Okay..."
The snowy haired vampire looked back at me once with his crimson eyes before heading out the door, I sighed when I could no longer hear his footsteps.
What am I going to do while he's gone?...
I couldn't think of anything that I could do so I just ended up sitting in the same place doing nothing as I waited for Hikari to return. I wasn't allowed to go outside without him because Hikari said that I'd most likely get lost.
After a while I heard a knock on the door.
But there's nothing that's anywhere near where me and Hikari are staying... Who could it be?
I got up and walked towards the door. I was curious as to who was at the door.
Hikari never said that I shouldn't answer the door..
I opened the door to see a short stubby man wearing a cloak, I couldn't see his face very well.
"Hi"
I said towards the stranger, who in return nodded.
"Hello young man, may I ask a favour of you?"
The stranger's voice was creaky and old I could tell that the person was much older than me or Hikari. I tilted my head in confusion, I didn't think if be able to do much of anything.
"I don't know mister it depends if I'm able to"
I didn't want to lie, whenever I lied about liking something Hikari would always get angry at me and I wasn't sure how the old man would react.
"Please, if you may.... My poor son is sick with a terrible illness... Could you be a kind boy and lend me some money so that I may save him"
The old man clasped his hands together and shook them in a begging motion. I frowned at the thought of a small sick boy laying in bed.
Poor kid.... I want to help but Hikari never let's me handle any money.....
"I'm sorry.... I don't have any money on me, my friend who has left has it all"
I apologized as I went to go close the door, I really wanted to help but I knew I couldn't.
"Wait, you're clothes look like they cost a good amount, rare fabric they seem to be made of. Maybe you could give me them to help pay?"
The old man asked as he looked me over while stopping me from closing the door.
My clothes are worth a lot? So if I give him my clothes I'd be able to help save his kid who is sick?.... But Hikari might yell at me again... No, I can just tell Hikari that I gave them away to help someone.
"Sure"
I said as I took of my clothes and gave them to the old man, he gave me a really strange look before shaking his head and leaving with my clothes.
"Thank you sir.... You've helped my son...... Imbecile..."
The old man called as he got out of view, I tilted my head in confusion before going back inside.
I wonder what imbecile means... Maybe I'll ask Hikari when he gets back.
I looked around and found some of Hikari's clothes, I put them on even though they were a little big on me.
I should wear clothes because Hikari would most likely yell at me for not wearing anything.
I then sat on a floor mat to wait for Hikari to return back. I didn't know how long I waited until I heard the sound of the front door opening.
Ah Hikari's back!
"Kurai I'm back! I got some more money today!"
My snowy haired friend called as he entered the room, I was glad that he had returned. Hikari looked over at me then stopped walking, his crimson eyes narrowed.
"Wait why are you wearing my clothes?"
He asked, I looked away from him and looked at the ground instead.
"Some old man in a cloak came to the door and asked for money to save his sick kid"
I said as I got up from sitting on the floor mat.
I'm a good person!
"....... You gave your clothes to a stranger because he said his child was sick?......"
I nodded happily in response to my snowy haired friend's question, proud about how helpful I was.
"Yeah, he thanked me and called me an imbecile, what's an imbecile anyway?"
Hikari sighed tiredly and put his hand on his head, closing his eyes.
"Kurai..... Imbecile basically means idiot.... You just got scammed of your clothes...."
Idiot?.... Why would the old man call me that? I helped save his son...
"I don't understand..."
The snowy haired teen sighed once again and leaned against a wall before opening his crimson eyes.
"Kurai he stole your clothes, he had NO sick son...."
Wait.... The old man lied to me?...
"Shouldn't we get them back then?"
Hikari shook his head.
"No... Your clothes are foreign so the old man is probably long gone by now. They're probably in some dirty place where stolen goods are sold"
Oh... So my clothes are dirty...
"Oh..... I'm sorry for messing up- oww!"
I winced as Hikari hit me in the top of my head with his fist. I crouched down and held it in pain.
"What was that for?!"
I whined as I looked up at the snowy haired teen above me.
"For making me feel second hand embarrassment! I just can't believe something like that actually happened... It's just too...!"
Hikari's odd...
I sighed after Hikari finished yelling, I was glad that he wasn't too mad at me and was instead just more annoyed than anything.
"Hikari... I'm going to have to wear your clothes from now on until I get new clothes...."
"No, I sold a lot of stuff at the shop and bought you more clothes, not as nice as your old ones but they're better than having one pair of clothes... Actually negative one pair of clothes."
I smiled happily, I was glad that Hikari was kind even though he had a bit of a temper.
Hikari POV
Kurai only has one pair of clothes.... I should use the money I get from these artifacts I 'found' to buy him some more. It's troublesome washing his clothes while he is bathing.
"Kurai stay here while I go sell this stuff"
I said as I finished packing the artifacts in a bag an slung it over my shoulder.
He'll be fine left alone for a bit, it's not like he does anything.
"Okay..."
I looked back at the coal haired boy before heading out the door. I could tell that Kurai didn't like when I left, I didn't blame him.
He still can't do much when he's left alone...
I ran towards a nearby town that me and Kurai sometimes visited when we needed something. Normal people would usually live inside the town but me and Kurai didn't have that option, I had to hide the face that I was a vampire to save us trouble.
It was really easy to spot a vampire in a crowd, we always either have crimson eyes or white hair, I'm unlucky enough to have both so I usually put up a hood when I enter town or say 'thanks for noticing my hair, it took forever to dye'.
If people found out Kurai was staying with me, a vampire others would try to harm him and call him cursed.
I sighed when I reached the outskirts of the town, I put up the good of a jacket I was wearing and tucked my hands in my pockets before I entered.
It's helpful that people only suspect others of being vampires when the sun isn't out, superstitions sure have their usefulness.
I went to an acquaintance's stand and pulled the artifacts out from the backpack. He didn't care where I got them from, just as long as he can sell them.
"Ah Hikari, what ya got for me today?"
A sandy haired man said as he came into view, I smiled slightly. With my fangs out of view of course.
"I got you some old looking artifacts Mika, how about you buy them from me so I can buy a friend of mine some clothes."
I said as I motioned my hand towards the odd artifacts I had brought.
I hope they get me a good amount of money... It was a pain escaping with them.
Mika picked up one of the odd dolls and examined carefully and nodded enthusiastically.
"These here are worth a fair amount of cash, I'll buy 'em for two gold and eighty two silvers, give or take a few bronze"
I nodded, I knew that Mika most likely lowered its value but its part of his job to make money.
"Yes that would be great, thank you"
I happily accepted the money and left Mika to do something else. I was glad that I had gotten a good amount of cash.
This will be enough to get Kurai a good amount of clothes and still have a lot left over. Plus maybe we could sell his expensive clothes if he's not attached to them.
I went over to one of the many clothes stands, I got a few weird looks from the people around me by I paid them no mind, I was used to standing out.
I shifted through the clothes finding some nice and simple clothes, I didn't care much about fashion. I just wanted Kurai to have at least a few pairs of clothes.
I grabbed the chosen clothes and paid for them before leaving with them. I was glad that they had only costed me twenty or so silvers all together.
With this I can buy more food instead of putting random plants together like normal.
I smirked slightly as I began to leave town, I remembered when I had accidentally given Kurai some poison ivy not too long ago and how the coal haired boy had went crazy scratching himself.
I walked home quickly, the bundle of clothes I had were barely slowing me down. I wanted to get back and rest a bit before the sun went down.
I wonder if Kurai is in the same place where I left him.
I sighed when I spotted me and Kurai's hide out, nothing seemed different but something just felt off about the air as if someone else had been here.
I walked in the door, it surprised me that it wasn't already locked.
"Kurai I'm back! I got some more money today!"
I called as I entered the main room, my eyes glanced over the coal haired boy and I stopped walking. He was wearing my clothes for some reason, I narrowed my eyes slightly.
"Wait why are you wearing my clothes?"
I was curious, it was the first time the coal haired boy had actually done something like this on his own before.
"Some old man in a cloak came to the door and asked for money to save his sick kid"
Kurai said as he got up from sitting on the floor mat.
....... He's joking right?....
"....... You gave your clothes to a stranger because he said his child was sick?......"
The coal haired boy nodded happily in response to my question, he seemed really proud of himself.
"Yeah, he thanked me and called me an imbecile, what's an imbecile anyway?"
Kurai...... You're so.... No, I should be calm... He just didn't know any better...
I sighed tiredly and put my hand on my head, closing my eyes. I couldn't believe what Kurai was saying.
"Kurai..... Imbecile basically means idiot.... You just got scammed of your clothes...."
This is just too stupid to have happened....
"I don't understand..."
I sighed once again before leaning against a wall, opening my eyes.
"Kurai he stole your clothes, he had NO sick son...."
I should have taught him about people who try to trick you out of money...
"Shouldn't we get them back then?"
I shook his head.
"No... Your clothes are foreign so the old man is probably long gone by now. They're probably in some dirty place where stolen goods are sold"
It would just be embarrassing chasing down someone who stole Kurai's clothes...
"Oh..... I'm sorry for messing up- oww!"
I have Kurai a punch on the top of his head, the coal haired boy winced and held his head in pain as he crouched close to the ground.
"What was that for?!"
The smaller boy whined as he looked up at me.
"For making me feel second hand embarrassment! I just can't believe something like that actually happened... It's just too...!"
I don't think I ever want to tell anybody that something as stupid as this actually happened...
"Hikari... I'm going to have to wear your clothes from now on until I get new clothes...."
Luckily I bought you some clothes...
"No, I sold a lot of stuff at the shop and bought you more clothes, not as nice as your old ones but they're better than having one pair of clothes... Actually negative one pair of clothes."
Kurai... I hope he doesn't 'lose' these clothes as well...
