Side chapter 1 : Hikari's unease Kurai the idiot

Well here's a side chapter that was requested by AmaterasuSensei about how Kurai was stupid enough to hop from a high place, only to break his legs~ this has no connection to the main plot and takes place before the first chapter and before they bonded.

Also Kurai's mind is mostly blank so he is a little child like due to recent amnesia.

Some sentences are cut off because if they continued..it would spoil the chapter about how they met..

Kurai POV

"So Hikari, what's it like being a vampire? Do you melt in the sun or what?"

I asked my newly made vampire friend, I was curious. I had never once met a vampire before, well within my current memories which are mostly blank.

Hikari glared at me with his deep crimson eyes, and gave a long, annoyed sigh.

Maybe he's tired, it's day time so he probably is forcing himself to stay awake... Hmm lucky for me I guess.

"Kurai... Where the hell did you get that kind of idea?"

Mean....

I looked to the dirt on the balcony and kicked some of it up into the air slightly, I hadn't expected Hikari to respond to my question so coldly.

.... I thought we were friends after all that had happened...

.

"I just... Yesterday I read a book about vampires and they said that the sun and other stuff would kill you..."

I whispered quietly, I felt a little ashamed, like I had unknowingly insulted the snowy haired vampire. Hikari raised one of his brows in surprise.

"Why would you need to know if the sun will kill me or not? If you're thinking of destroying me like the rest of those vile humans let me tell you, I could easily kill you first"

I stepped back as I felt a cold shiver run down my spine slowly before it seeped away. Hikari's words sounded lonely and laced with faint venom. It was hard not to flinch at his words.

Why would I want to kill you when you have done so much for me...? I just..

I shook my head quickly and balled my left hand and placed it on my chest as I look into those deep crimson pools that belonged to Hikari.

"You're wrong! I would never want you to die!"

I cried out, I was afraid that Hikari would leave me behind as he went to travel in search of a way back home. We hadn't known each other for more than a week at most and Hikari's attitude seemed to hint how easily he could leave me behind.

I have nowhere to go... The only person I know is you, everything around me looks so foreign.. I was so scared before..

Crimson eyes flared as Hikari crossed his arms and leaned to one side. The snowy haired teen did not seem impressed at all with my answer.

"How so? Why did you want to know then?"

Hikari's words were low and steady, as he waited for my answer, I looked away to the side slightly, unable to look him in the eyes any longer.

"I... Was worried that I might make a stupid mistake and cause harm to you just because I know next to nothing about vampires..."

I could feel the cool breeze of the night air as we were standing on the upper balcony of the building we had to take refuge in. We had been chased out of a small village that we didn't even spend enough time at to learn its name, one of the elders had sensed that Hikari was a vampire, then everything became frantic and we ended up in this random abandoned building.

It had been silent for a while so I risked peeking up to see Hikari smiling slightly, his crimson eyes had lost their flare and seemed to gaze a soft look in them. I had never seen the snowy haired teen once smile, he usually had a scowl or frown across his face.

So even Hikari can smile?

"You're not lying?..."

His voice was soft, I had no idea about what had caused the sudden mood change in my friend but he seemed so, fragile right now as he slunk to the ground on his knees.

Hikari?.... I don't understand..

"Why would I lie? I know barely anything in the first place silly"

I walked over towards the crouching vampire and crouch down beside him and smiled at him, wanting to cheer him up from his sudden sadness.

"It's just most humans... Try to kill me on sight for what I am... So when you asked about what could harm me I..."

Ah... This explains why Hikari had been so distant with me... He was afraid, afraid because he probably has had some terrible experiences because he was born a vampire...

I leaned in and hugged Hikari gently, I felt like it was something done that comforts others yet I didn't know how.

"Hikari, you have no need to worry, I wouldn't betray our friendship just because of what you are, it's not your fault you're a vampire. Plus, you've been kind to me even though you may not like me that much"

Hikari was warm, proving that the vampire books I had read were nonsense. He was warm because he had a heart, just like everyone else.

"Thank you..."

My eyes went wide in surprise from Hikari's soft words, I quickly smiled warmly. I was glad that I had managed to earn Hikari's trust, no matter how hard I tried before I was always ignored or glared at.

So I guess I'm now considered you're friend now, even though I've considered you my friend as soon as you....

"That's what friends are for right?"

Hikari looked away and did his tch sound that I had grown used to hearing.

Heh I'm glad he's back to his usual self, seeing Hikari acting so strangely kind of scares me a little.

I leaned back and almost fell of the balcony of the apartment. I had forgotten that we were on a balcony because of how dirty it was, thankfully Hikari pulled me away from it.

"You're such an idiot, spacing out and almost falling and breaking something"

Hikari smirked, as he moved away from me so that we were no longer extremely close to each other. I looked down over the edge of the balcony, we were a few stories up from the ground.

"..... I wouldn't break something..."

I complained, I didn't like when I was told that I was unable to do something. It just made me want to prove them wrong.

Hikari rolled his eyes and sighed as he ran a few fingers through his snowy hair.

"No Kurai, you definitely will"

"Nope, watch me, I'll prove you wrong"

I quickly leaped off of the balcony, the wind rushing at me was short lived as I landed on the ground with a sudden jolt of pain searing through my legs, I cried out in pain as I collapsed and laid on my back, my eyes were watering from the pain.

I saw Hikari quickly hop off the edge as well, however he landed with no pain as he hurried to my side.

... I was wrong.. This hurts so much!

"Kurai you're such an idiot... You broke your legs"

Hikari's crimson eyes were tinted with slight worry as he picked me up and carried me back into our current refuge. He cared for me until my legs had healed, I was thankful that he had put his journey on hold until I had recovered again. His style of taking care of me may have been quite rough, however after two months I healed and we started our journey for a way back home together.

Hikari POV

"So Hikari, what's it like being a vampire? Do you melt in the sun or what?"

Wait what..?

I couldn't believe that the coal haired boy in front of me asked such a question, he had made me think he was different from other humans.

I guess I was wrong... All humans are the same..

I glared into Kurai's sea green eyes that glimmered strangely in the moonlight, it slightly freaked me out at first but I had grown used to how he looks during the night.

"Kurai... Where the hell did you get that kind of idea?"

Are you also going to betray me like all the others?...

Kurai looked at the balcony and kicked some of the dirt that lingered onto it into the air, a nervous look was covering his face.

I hope my thoughts are wrong...

"I just... Yesterday I read a book about vampires and they said that the sun and other stuff would kill you..."

Kurai whispered his answer quietly, I looked at him surprised.

So I wasn't wrong... I didn't think Kurai would be that kind of person... He seemed so gentle and caring..

"Why would you need to know if the sun will kill me or not? If you're thinking of destroying me like the rest of those vile humans let me tell you, I could easily kill you first"

Every human I've met has caused me so much harm... The ones that seemed kind always stabbed me in the back later... I guess you're one of those... I really did think you were different..

Kurai stepped back, probably with a newfound fear of me. I was after all, a so called monster that could easily dispose of him.

Of course you'd be afraid... Everyone is...

Kurai suddenly shook his head quickly and held a fist to his chest in a somewhat girl like action as he stepped forward, his sea green eyes were bright with unidentified emotion.

"You're wrong! I would never want you to die!"

That's what everyone who once trusted said before they betrayed me... Saying such simple words won't fool me Kurai..

The coal haired teen cried out, it hurt at the thought of being betrayed by someone. Even if we barely knew each other I had thought that he was special, not judging me for what I was.

How many times had this happened with others?... I don't know, I've lost count..and now another will be added.

I crossed my arms, not happy at all with the simple answer Kurai gave me, those words could easily be said with lies.

"How so? Why did you want to know then?"

I made my voice low and steady, not wanting it to tremble with how much hurt I was feeling. Kurai looked away from me.

"I... Was worried that I might make a stupid mistake and cause harm to you just because I know next to nothing about vampires..."

What?.... Is that true?... You're not going to betray me?...

I felt myself fill with relief, I was so glad. That Kurai didn't want me dead, I may not have shown it but I felt slightly attached to the kind amnesiac boy who wasn't quick to judge. For some reason I was attracted to his presence it was slightly calming, I didn't have to fear being hated. I smiled at the coal haired boy.

"You're not lying?..."

Kurai...

My voice was soft, I felt so weak like my strength had been sapped out of me as I slunk down to my knees, I was happy however I was afraid he'd take it back and say that he lied.

I... Had hoped yet... I never truly expected it to be true... To be accepted so easily after all the years of hate and pain..

"Why would I lie? I know barely anything in the first place silly"

Kurai walked over to means crouched down beside me to give me a kind smile.

How can it truly be this easy?.. Will this kindness fade away one day?

"It's just most humans... Try to kill me on sight for what I am... So when you asked about what cod harm me I..."

I hung around you because you seemed kind, unlike other humans yet... I had expected the kindness to be false and for your true colours to be wicked like the rest..

Kurai leaned over to give me a gentle and warm hug, it felt relaxing.

I guess being shunned so much had made me a bit of a fool for being scared to fully trust others... Afraid of the hurt that usually followed if I got my hopes up. However for some reason now, I feel like I can trust Kurai truly.

"Hikari, you have no need to worry, I wouldn't betray our friendship just because of what you are, it's not your fault you're a vampire. Plus, you've been kind to me even though you may not like me that much"

Those were the words I had always wished to hear, it was strange how even though we've known each other for no longer than a week that he managed to say the words I longed to hear.

"Thank you..."

Kurai's eyes went wide in surprise but that was quickly covered over with a warm smile. It was a nice feeling to have a person to trust.

"That's what friends are for right?"

Friend?!... I guess we are friends now..

I looked away embarrassed and made the tch sound I did when I didn't want to answer.

Idiot... Saying silly things..

I felt Kurai lean back a little too much, I quickly grabbed him before he fell off the edge of the balcony.

Heh truly an idiot, an idiotic... Friend.

"You're such an idiot, spacing out and almost falling and breaking something"

I smirked as I scolded Kurai, I moved away from him so that we weren't too awkwardly close anymore, the coal haired teen looked over the edge of the balcony, we were a few stories high.

"..... I wouldn't break something..."

Kurai whined in defiance.

...... You're not serious are you?... I knew you were dim but, I didn't think you were that dim...

I rolled my eyes and sighed at his stupidity as I scratched my head.

"No Kurai, you definitely will"

"Nope, watch me, I'll prove you wrong"

..... He wouldn't..

I watched with surprise as Kurai hopped off the balcony, after a few seconds I heard the sounds of breaking bones and a cry of pain.

He actually.... Idiot!

I quickly hopped off to follow him, I was fine because I was a vampire, I looked worriedly at Kurai and was relieved that only his legs were broken. His sea green eyes were watering from the pain.

I hope you learned your lesson... Jumping off a balcony...

"Kurai you're such an idiot... You broke your legs"

I picked up Kurai and brought him into our temporary refuge, I cared for him a bit until after two months when his legs had healed. I wasn't that fussy person who hovered over him, he just had broken legs not a big deal. I had also postponed my search for a way home, I didn't want to leave Kurai so as soon as he was okay, we started our journey together.

Me: that's the end of the side chapter~
