"belle felt drowned in the religion of her father. it washed over her like the wave down by their old house in astoria. she missed oregon, the smell of salt water and pine and roads that never seemed to end. derry was full of dead ends. the move was another decision made by her father, who seemed to make all the decisions, really. through his immutable catholicism and a crumbling marriage came the choice to adopt a young arabelle, born by a seventeen year old mother in a worn-out hospital in chicago.

and then there was richie tozier, cradled in the broken web of his family tree, springy mattress creaking underneath him. his food tasted stale and his father was absent and his mother was drunk, but he was under a roof and he had the losers and, you know, there was always streetfighter.

the two had commonalities they'd never been able to predict in one another. the girl who spent her days in patrick hockstetter's arms and the boy who ate his lunches in the hidden corners of the cafeteria. both just kids trapped under the paper-thin walls of a fabricated family that could never want them, wanting only each other."

— reader's notes:

•  ALL HAIL THIS EXQUISITE WRITING *bows down*

•  seriously. if you read any of ezra's books, you will see how beautiful her descriptions are, and just how flawlessly she pulls it off. when reading it, it just feels like they went "gonna sprinkle in some excellence there" and POOF there's one of the most magnificent paragraphs i've ever read. she could be describing something as simple as opening a bag of cherries and i'm over here crying already.

•  they also seems to know the canon characters of the book/film so well. when she's writing from richie's point of view, for instance, his characterisation feels spot on — and yet at the same time, we see a whole new side to him as he spends more time with belle. (this might be a good time to say richie and belle own my whole heart). i'd also like to say i haven't even watched the whole of IT before, but this is the one IT fanfic i've read the whole way through and been completely hooked.
