Jai was standing in a corner looking up at the sky. Tears threatened to fall out of his eyes as he stood there not letting his weakness and fear engulf him. Jai was standing in the newly built hospital in the village. His family was in Srisailam praying for the happiness before getting the arrangements done for Vennela's srimantham, when this happened.

Vennela and Jai were setting up their room to be baby proof and they bought so many things for their soon to arrive baby. It was less than 15 weeks.

"Bava.. Why did you buy all yellow, red and green and orange and not blue or pink?"

"Once the baby is born, anyone getting her a dress will buy only those colors. Pilla ante pink'u, pilladu ante blue'u! People actually made those colors into masculine and feminine."

He grunted making her laugh.

"But what if they get other colors thinking the parents would have thought of these two!"

She asked frowning. Jai looked around once scratching his head and then shook his head chuckling.

"Only you can think like this Vennela!"

"At least one of us is thinking a bit differently. Unlike a certain one here. Urrrhhh!"

She ended in a painful gasp holding her now grown abdomen scaring the living lights out of Jai.

"Evayindi Vennela?"

"Kick!"

"Hain what?"

"What what? I felt a kick."

Jai was about to touch her to feel it himself when she held his shirt front in a tight grip.

"Bava.. Something is wrong!"

And Jai got even more scared as he saw her eyes closing slowly and her slacking in his grip.

"Vennela?"

He patted her cheek. She half opened her eyes.

"Blood! Bleeding."

And she closed her eyes again and he understood what she meant. He felt wetness as he tried to scoop her in his arms. That is all he knew or remember. Next he was rushing her to the new hospital that was ready for inauguration calling Arjun on the way who was already there looking at the things.

He took her there immediately and she was soon taken inside for examination while he was left behind in the corridor. He could not forget the horror when he felt her blood wetting her saree.

Waiting for someone to come and tell about Vennela felt like an eternity when he heard Arjun.

"Rei Bava!"

He turned and rushed to him.

"Seetha pinni is calling you inside. Go!"

He said and went away taking his scrubs and mask. Shaking and trembling Jai went inside. Seetha smiled at him. But Jai saw that the smile was wan.

"Don't worry. Sit. Vennela is fine."

Thats when Jai took a deep breath and sighed.

"Kaani doctor, the blood.."

"All in good time Jai. Let us go inside."

Saying she took him to the examination table which had become a makeshift resting bed. There Vennela was laid with IV attached to her hand.

"Vennela.."

He called in a whisper. She grunted and gulped showing that she was awake.

"Amma Vennela.. You are going to listen to what I am going to say carefully. But before that, I am going to do an ultrasound."

Jai got alerted hearing this.

"Kaani Atha.. ultrasound transducer.. Inside?"

Seetha shook her head.

"Ledu Jai. We have started using external transducer. So relax both of you."

Saying she got the monitor and the transducer. She first covered Vennela with a bedsheet on her lower part and then pulled up the hospital tops baring her now visibly round and heavy abdomen. Handling her gloves, Seetha rubbed a jelly like thing on Vennela abdomen making Vennela wince in the sudden chillness. Then she took the transducer and started probing her.

Soon the monitor showed an image to which Jai got used to much earlier but still it felt like first time. There on the monitor, he saw his baby happily doing cartwheel inside Vennela. He smiled and then chuckled as Vennela winced getting a kick from the baby.

"See Jai, your baby is healthy."

"She is showing all signs of being like Vennela."

"She?"

"Vennela strongly believes that its going to be a girl."

Seetha just smiled and then turned the volume. Jai and Vennela gave a watery smile at the sound of their Baby's heartbeat.

"The sound is different doctor?"

Jai asked who had the pattern etched in his mind. Vennela frowned.

"Before, the sound used to be echo la kada Bava?"

Jai nodded and then looked at Seetha.

"See Vennela.. And Jai.. Before there used to be two heart beats. Now its only one."

And she broke the news. Jai and Vennela looked at her shell shocked.

"Vennela used to carry twins."

This news shook both of them. Did they lose their child even before it could be born?
