Chapter 2- Buying a New Car
Garath went into the garage to work on his father's car. Jimmy drove a black 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z with red interior.
Garath worked on the undercarriage for a while before coming from underneath the car to work on the engine. He popped open the hood and examined the engine. But then Garath looked around and noticed that the parts he found at the junkyard were nowhere to be seen. Jimmy had hidden them somewhere in the house to sabotage Garath's efforts on fixing the Camaro.
"Are you serious?! I've had enough of this bullshit!" He yelled angrily.
Garath slammed the hood shut as his anger increased a thousand fold.
"I've had it with that lazy pig!" He said.
"Rough day huh?" A female voice said.
Garath looked over his shoulder to see his mother standing in the doorway.
"Yes. My father has had plenty of opportunities to take this worthless piece of junk to a proper mechanic. But he always hides the parts that I bring home from the junkyard. And I am getting sick of it." Garath answered.
Heather walked into the garage and rested her hand on his shoulder.
"You may want to pack up. Because we're going to buy you a new car." She said.
Garath's eyes widened when he heard these words.
"A new car?" He asked.
"Yes. I have a friend in Encino California who has a large collection of cars. And I thought we'd pay them a visit." Heather answered.
Garath immediately ran into the house and packed up a black leather suitcase with extra clothes, sunglasses, and his smartphone. They got into Heather's Dodge Viper and drove to the airport. Garath sat in his seat and listened to music throughout the duration of the flight. When they got to California, Garath and his mother took a bus to the neighborhood of Encino from the city Los Angeles.
Garath was awestruck by all the sights that surrounded the environment. He'd never been to Encino before, yet he's heard a lot of good things about it.
"Wow. I can hardly believe that we're here in Encino." He said.
"So you've never been here before?" Heather asked.
"Nope. I've only seen parts of it from certain episodes of Spongebob Squarepants that starred Tom Kenny as Patchy the Pirate." Garath answered.
They took a taxi cab to Hayvenhurst Avenue. Eventually, they came to a large mansion.
Heather paid for the cab ride and joined her son at the front door. She knocked on the door and within a few minutes, it was answered by a muscular man with dark brown eyes and black hair. He stood 5'10" tall, weighing in at 176 pounds. His chest size was 45", with a 34" waist and 16.5" biceps.
"Heather, it is good to see you." He said.
"The feeling is mutual, Scott. This is my son, Garath. And Garath, this is my good friend: Scott Adkins." Heather replied.
Scott looked up at Garath.
"So you must be Garath." He said.
"Yes. And I have to say, it is an honor to meet you Scott." Garath replied.
Scott grinned.
"You seem to know me quite well." He said.
"Yes. I have all of your movies at home. And I have watched every single one of them at least 100 times and they never get old." Garath replied.
Heather laughed.
"It's true. He loves action movies that involve martial arts. He's even been trained in the I.T.F and W.T.F styles of Taekwondo by a pair of YouTube celebrities that he really likes: Micah Brock who is also known as the Kwonkicker, and Aaron Gassor who is better known as the Ginger Ninja Trickster. W.T.F stands for World Taekwondo Federation, while I.T.F means International Taekwondo Federation." She said.
"Impressive. Who inspired Garath to learn martial arts anyway?" Scott asked.
Garath smiled.
"There are actually a few actors who inspired me to learn martial arts. And you're one of them. Alongside of Tony Jaa, Jean Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, and my personal favorite: Bruce Lee. A lot of styles peaked my interest, including Jeet Kune Do. Eventually I settled for Taekwondo. Aaron and Micah both worked as instructors at a dojo where students can learn both the I.T.F. and W.T.F. styles of Taekwondo at once." Garath answered.
Scott smiled with pride.
"Sure feels good to inspire someone to learn how to defend themselves. And ya have a pair of great teachers. I've met both Aaron and Micah in the past. I've even been a guest star in a couple of their videos." He said.
"That's cool. I watch their videos all the time. Including their tutorials which I like to follow along with while I train at home. And speaking of which, training is what I do all day." Garath replied.
"It's true. The only breaks he takes is for eating, and taking care of chores. Other than that, Garath trains nonstop to keep his skills sharp. I always warned people that he takes things literally, especially the quote that says: practice makes perfect." Heather said.
"I gotta say, he certainly is dedicated. I like that. And I heard you're wantin' to buy him a new car." Scott replied.
"Yes. Jimmy got him an ugly bicycle helmet with Barbie all over it. But Garath got his revenge by supergluing that helmet to his dad's head. You could hear Jimmy's hair tearing as he tried to get the helmet off. He managed to get it off, but he ripped out a lot of hair in the process and had the shave the rest of his hair off. So he's gonna be bald for a while." Heather said.
Scott laughed.
"I bet. The very thought of removing a helmet that was superglued to your head sounds painful." He said.
"Oh it is. I almost felt sorry for him. But then again, he had it coming." Garath replied.
"I'm sure he did. But nonetheless, you're gonna love what I have in store for ya." Scott said.
He led them to a storage building behind his house where he kept a large collection of old muscle cars.
Garath's jaw dropped when he saw the cars in the shed. There was a lot of Pontiac Trans Ams, and even a bright red 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28.
"Whoa. Those are some sexy lookin' cars. Especially that Camaro." Garath said.
"Indeed they are mate. You look around and see what ya like. Your mom and I have some catching up to do. By the way: the driver doesn't pick the car. The car chooses the driver." Scott replied.
Garath laughed.
"The old bond between man and machine. I like it." He said.
Heather and Scott went inside the house to catch up on old times while Garath looked around the old car collection.
"So, how are things in Las Vegas?" Scott asked.
"They'd be better if my husband would be nice to Garath. Jimmy has been nothing short of abusive towards my son. He even forced Garath to try and fix his old 1990 Camaro. Keyword: try. But Jimmy always hides the parts somewhere in the house to prevent Garath from being able to fix his dad's car." Heather answered.
"Damn. Sounds like you're with the wrong man. But I'm sure you'll be able to get rid of him soon enough." Scott replied.
Back with Garath, he was browsing the muscle cars in the shed. He was looking for something different from the rest of the cars.
"There must be something that stands out in here somewhere." He said.
Then a glimpse of orange caught his eye.
"Hey, what's that?" Garath asked.
He made his way through the old Trans Ams and the car he looked at almost made his heart stop. Right in front of Garath was a 1969 Dodge Charger RT.
Garath couldn't believe his eyes. The 69 Charger had a 7.2L V8 engine with a top speed of 147 mph, 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds and up to 431 horsepower.
"Hey there sexy. You certainly are a sight to behold." He said. Then he remembered what Scott told him. "I think you just made my decision.
"Did you find anything?" Heather called out.
"I sure did." Garath responded, as he left to meet up with his mother.
Unknown to him, the wheels of the Charger slowly turned in the direction that the blonde went, and the headlights seemed to give off an amber colored glow as the lids over them were opened. There seemed to be a spark of life in them. Garath returned with Scott and his mother. Heather was stunned to say the least.
"Looks like my son found a snazzy looking car." She said.
Garath climbed into the Charger and took in the black leather interior and smoothly stroked the wooden steering wheel. Scott must've spent a lot of time cleaning out the entire collection during spring cleaning.
"Certainly feels better than I thought." He said.
Scott took note of this.
"Of course it is, mate. That's American designing at its best." He said.
Heather looked at Scott.
"Well Scott, we came to see you and it looks we've come to this. How much would you charge for this beautiful car? It's my son's birthday and I wanted to get him something special." She said.
Scott trailed his finger along the hood and stared at the dust on his finger.
"It looks like she could use a few new parts and a little cleaning. But it's your first car. You have to learn somehow. I've been hearing about some strange murders happening around this Charger and it was supposedly meeting up with Black Land Rover Defender 110. But that makes no sense. Cars can't drive themselves. Can they?" Scott replied.
"I don't know how that's possible either. But I'm willing to pay $200,000 in cash for this lovely Dodge Charger." Heather said.
"$200,000? I don't know." Scott replied.
"I can make arrangements for someone to deliver it to the house." Heather said.
Scott took notice of Garath smiling as he pretended to drive like a Duke Boy.
"Come on. Step up your game, Rosco. You're too slow." He said.
"Okay. You got a deal." Scott said.
Garath climbed out of the car.
"I got her?" He asked.
"Yep. That's right kid. You've got her. She's a beauty. And she wants to be with you. In fact, I think she likes you." Scott answered.
"Awesome. I'm excited to restore this baby. Soon, she'll be looking even prettier than ever." Garath said.

Miranda's Point Of View
I was finally sold. After all these years, someone finally bought me. I thought he was a pervert like every other guy who owned me. But he gently stroked my steering wheel and even quoted Bo Duke from Dukes of Hazzard. He showed a lot of excitement for the occasion where he works on rebuilding me. And soon, I will meet up with my friend Lili, and we'll spread chaos like there's no tomorrow.
*Meanwhile*
Lili's Point of View
I was finally sold to a young lady with gorgeous caramel brown eyes and dark brown hair.
I believe her name is Thea. She was showing signs of excitement and eagerness to restore me. I look forward to it. I would love to be shiny and new rather than old and run down. And soon I'll be meeting up with Miranda, and we'll kill anyone who so much as looks at our new owners funny.
