7. The Truth Untold

Third Person’s P.O.V.

No matter how hard Taehyung tried he just couldn’t get his agitation toned down, a question gnawing continuously at the back of his head.

How could an omega possibly knock him out?! It must have been some sort of trick! Or maybe he had drugged him?

He growled low to himself remembering again how he had knelt before the other feeling his strength leave him completely while the others’ taunting words played in his head.

Nobody…fucking nobody dares to taunt him!

He felt his knuckles crack and his fist go white as he shivered with growing rage, finally deciding that he would teach the other a lesson worth remembering when he’d get his hands on him.

“M-My lord” Yushik’s voice weakly floated in and the alpha ushered him in, quickly pulling on his coat as he prepared to head to the camp.

“What is it Yushik?”

“Sire, I found something” the words made Taehyung turn to him and he curiously eyed the sleek dagger his attendant handed to him, instantly catching that tantalizing scent on the object which had faded to only leave a mild essence by now. He remembered how adeptly the omega had set it against his throat and had actually dared to threaten to ‘slice his throat’.

“Keep on with the search Yushik …good work” he smirked twirling the blade in his hand and suddenly his eyes caught on an insignia carved at the hilt of the dagger, his brows gathered in a deep frown since he couldn’t believe what he actually saw.

It was the emblem of the royal army of Eulan and Taehyung couldn’t believe his eyes, he knew that the omega was a unique one and without a doubt didn’t belong to the kingdom for he knew that no omega in Kleon was trained to wield weapons.

Truthfully, he had never met or heard of an omega in other lands as well who was trained to become a part of the royal army!

His alpha seemed to love the new info more as challenge sparked in his eyes, delighted to think how gratifying it would feel when he would crush that haughty omega’s pride and make the other submit to him.

“I”ll keep it…I have a few questions to ask him and my instincts are telling me I’ll see him again soon enough” he spoke slyly slipping the dagger in his pocket, before he marched out of his chambers ready to check on his men.

After all, he was the Commander-in-Chief of one of the largest armies time had ever witnessed.

Yoongi watched the sleeping figure on the cot, he had decided it’d be better to keep the beta in his tent for now, while his two assistants Miko and Ayo checked the others for wounds, trying to help the wounded soldiers to get better as they carefully applied the balms.

He got confused the more he checked him, noting that the other wasn’t even dressed as a beta, his once white robes were a dirt drenched mess, torn and frayed at the edges. He didn’t actually seem like a beta either with his blushing ivory skin, delicate features and an innocence most often graced on omegas. He sceptically edged nearer to help the other change into fresh new clothes, feeling oddly conscious as he untied the knots on the beta’s shoulders.

But stilled to see a hand suddenly grasp at his wrist, as the beta woke up to watch him with wide frightened eyes before he was hastily trying to move away, clumsily holding his robes around him.

“W-Who are you?” Seokjin fumbled panting at the pale sombre man before him, he shakily gawked at everything around him trying to understand where he was currently and how did he actually end up here.

“Where am I? What is this place?”

“Relax…I was trying to help” Yoongi assured staying in his place as he watched the other, realizing instantly that the other was probably not from Kleon for everyone in his land knew him as the royal medic and advisor to King Jungkook. It was a position entrusted to him by the late King who adored his skills as a medic and more his responsible and calm alpha instincts and his presence of mind.

However, personally Yoongi liked being able to help the common people, aiding the soldiers to help them heal the wounds they took in the name of the kingdom and people often saw him outside the palace, enjoying the company of his trueblood cousin brother and they treated each other more as friends.

Although Yoongi believed that the other had a severe attitude problem and would rather like him better if the younger could learn to control that reckless arrogant alpha of his.

“Why is everyone here so ill-mannered?” Seokjin grumbled under his breath glaring at the other, trying to step down from the cot to get away as he struggled to hold his robes together because he had no idea how to tie back those fancy knots.

Yoongi frowned a bit listening to his grumbling, this was probably the first time someone had called him ‘ill-mannered’ because he was widely known as the most well-mannered alpha in Kleon.

“It would be better if you change” he spoke trying to disregard the other’s harsh words to ensure that the beta would not go out among the others reeking of the trueblood. The alphas in the camp would most likely make a joke out of it given the fact that alphas specifically craved for omegas, and it was very unlikely for the trueblood to seek pleasure from a beta, “if you don’t want everyone to know that you were with an alpha”

Yoongi noted the instant change in the other as Seokjin’s head snapped up to him, his startled eyes made him deduce that there was something definitely unusual about this ‘beta’.

Seokjin stood up abruptly, and in his fear didn’t notice the bottle of potion drop to the carpeted floor of the tent.

“You’re a-an alpha?” He inquired taking a step back “c-can you smell me?” He stuttered, half fearing the answer making the other frown at him further.

Yoongi stooped down when his eyes caught the cask of purple liquid, grabbing at it to curiously gaze to check what it was.

“You must have had a terrible fall, seems like you hit your head too hard” he smiled knowingly as he slowly looked up from the bottle in his hand to the troubled eyes of the other “why would you have a scent? You’re a beta, right?”

He gently handed the cask back to the other, calm eyes assessing Seokjin’s fidgety brown eyes “what is your name?”

Seokjin hastily grasped back at the bottle, panicking to find a way out “I-I…umm J-Jin, it’s Jin-my name” he then grabbed at the fresh set of clothes kept beside his cot “I’ll just go-“ “No change here” Yoongi spoke making the other fumble more and he smiled inwardly to see his suspicions prove right, there was no way the one in front of him was a beta.

He had been very familiar with balms and potions, and the purple potion he had seen Jin hiding was a rare brew of a secret ancient recipe given to omegas to hide their scent to keep safe from getting attacked by rogues while they travelled through dangerous regions.

Yoongi had seen only one surviving male omega, Jimin, the escort to the young King, and right now as he stood with eyes trained on Jin and caught the discomfort of the other, he knew exactly who this unknown face was.

“I’ll wait outside” he spoke before walking out of the tent.

The camp was filled with alphas and betas, soldiers of varied ranks had tents set up accordingly. Betas were larger in number and more than a dozen long tents were poled up to accommodate them, whereas alpha soldiers however lesser in number but held higher ranks like battalion leaders, advisors to their commander and some useful for their beastly strength.

And there was only one hot news going around…

“Apparently they lost him at sea” … “The King has declared punishments for all!” … “Oh man thirty lashes! And I didn’t even get a glimpse of the omega!” … “What good are hunters if the omega is drowned?” … “They said his scent was maddening, and his skin glowed like the full moon”

Yoongi listened to the fluttering gossips, smiling to himself as he heard Jin’s soft voice assuring him that  he was done and turning about he saw the other come out dressed in a soldiers clothes, which quite weirdly seemed to suit him.

Seokjin blinked at the bright morning sky and the loud ruckus that surrounded the camp, his curious gaze taking note of everything around.

The lush green field, the long tents, the horses and carts roaming about and men working about to set up the camp. Through the years he had trained with the other betas back at the monastery he had wished to be of aid for his kingdom too, believed he could be a prized addition to their army back at Eulan but since he wasn’t allowed to leave the monastery he could never prove his mastery in combat. He often tried to brush away their snide comments when they ridiculed him for his omega status and discarded his zealous intention to join the army, calling him weak and delicate to wield swords and that he should stick to healing bruises and tending to dying plants because omegas were created to nurture not be a part of violence or bloodshed.

He quietly watched the wounded soldiers being carried inside the tents and yearned to help but stopped remembering the warning about not revealing his powers in front of unknown eyes. He realized that his sense of tracing scent was completely gone, and because the alpha in front of him hadn’t been able to catch his scent he was assured that his secret was safe for now.

A loud holler broke through the air stating the arrival of someone important and suddenly the entire atmosphere of the place changed as the unruly crowd fell into a line to stiffly bow before Seokjin caught sight of the man, and when he finally did, he could only stand frozen in his place.

It was the same outrageous alpha who had a strong exotic scent, earthy and rich like amber…he couldn’t really describe it but it reminded him of the heavy forests that surrounded the monastery…weirdly comforting yet he knew better than to fall prey to that pleasant sensation that made his omega go weak, and right now he was glad that the scent couldn’t affect him like it had the last time he had come face to face with that arrogant ill-mannered guy.

This time the alpha was dressed more appropriately as well, his shirt cleanly tucked beneath his richly decorated coat with a gold-worked insignia on his left shoulder, paired with brown breeches and heavy boots while the hilt of his sword glistened proudly in the morning light as he hopped off of his horse.

Seokjin didn’t realize when everyone had bowed down and stunned more when the alpha turned to walk straight towards where he stood frozen with the other alpha, his eyes went wider trying to think for a way out immediately as he fidgeted anxiously. He took a few steps back, wishing to turn away and run when a stern grip on his wrist stopped him.

“If you don’t want him to notice you, just bow. Trying to run will only get you in more trouble” the calm voice suggested and Seokjin gulped blinking up to see those grey eyes be completely devoid of any expression whatsoever as he tried to think if he should take the suggestion.

“Alphas love the chase…it’s a natural instinct, the more you run the more eager the wolf gets” Seokjin listened with wide eyes and Yoongi could hear his rapidly beating heart. He watched the beta take deep breaths as he attempted to calm down and saw him slowly bowing down along with the others against his will only because he wished to hide his face.

This was the first time Seokjin had to bow before an alpha, except his father he had never bowed before anyone.

But right now, it was scarier for him to realize that the calm harmless alpha by his side had probably come to know of his secret…how else would he know that he was thinking about running? Was he going to tell everyone about his secret?

Seokjin decided to keep quiet for now, holding back his panicked thoughts.

From the corner of his eyes, he could see the rude alpha walk up to the other, his voice friendly as he greeted his ‘hyung’ and Seokjin tucked his head lower as he knelt on one knee just like everyone else there. Although he knew the other had not actually seen his bare face yet he was fearful about getting recognized.

“Heard you beat up Kamu in the marketplace yesterday?” Yoongi inquired taunting Taehyung as the other greeted him with a hug.

“Eh hyung, I didn’t beat him up, I don’t like violence you know that” he smiled innocently as he slyly tried to cover up his usual shenanigans “I was just bored”.

“You were just showing off” Yoongi corrected him making the other smirk at him.

Taehyung turned about to see everyone stand up waiting for his orders, they had been disconcerted to not have their Commander with them in the last mission and believed that their failure was a result of the King's adamant demands against the trueblood's warnings. And now they had not only created an enemity with Eulan but was forced to suffer through punishments.

Seokjin stayed dumbly bowing still, praying that he passes by without noticing him and to his greatest relief saw the alpha loudly urging the men to assemble while he went to check on those who had suffered injuries due to the loosely planned attack on Eulan.

He believed he had passed through his predicament and slowly tried to fade among the crowd, slipping through the hoard of men to look for a way out of there when a grasp at his wrist alarmed him but his squirming were proved futile as Yoongi guided him back to his tent. He was determined to know the whole truth and was sure that Jin would need more than mere luck and scent blocking potion to stay safe from what the King had planned for him.

Taehyung was busy assessing how much damage the battalions had suffered and as he meandered through the rows of injured soldiers lying in pain, he caught on the rumours floating about because nobody had yet told him about what the actual reason was behind the sudden attack. His curiosity heightened to hear the mention about a breath-takingly beautiful omega with the most maddening scent whom the King had ordered to be brought from Eulan to become is mate.

And instinctively Taehyung’s mind went to the omega he had come across, the royal crest he had found on the dagger made it a very likely chance that it was the omega he had met who had escaped from the ship and was probably roaming about the streets of Kleon completely unprotected and dressed in those ragged robes.

An abrupt sense of protectiveness speared through him to think what could happen to him if he didn’t find proper shelter, he wasn’t sure how far those tricks of his could fool people and keep him safe. He was an omega after all, and it was in his nature to fall weak and submit before an alpha, and Taehyung didn’t know why his wolf was getting so restless with the idea of the other facing dangers.

“Escaped from the ship?” He thought out loud to one of the battalion leaders who had gathered to give the details of the entire pursuit.

“Yes…it was like he had cast a magic, no one in the ship even sensed him leave. However, the King has declared punishments on us, calling us incompetent in fulfilling our duties” they spoke in unison, apprehensive whispers rounding the hoards who seemed quite fearful.

Taehyung’s brows furrowed as he listened to everything, trying to fit the puzzle pieces in his head as he felt himself getting angry of how casually Jungkook had ordered punishments on everyone when the soldiers weren’t even made aware about what they were fighting for. Since it was a hasty decision only a troop of soldiers had been taken and almost without any proper scheme for the secret attack and Taehyung felt like it was more of an abduction than an actual quest.

The King had pawned valuable lives and crucial ammunition in his craze to acquire a mate.

It sounded almost ridiculous to Taehyung, who wasn’t aware of Jungkook’s real plans and had no knowledge about why the young King sought to mate that omega so desperately.

He gathered everyone, ordering them to ensure that their coast and sea lines were particularly kept under surveillance. Eulan wasn’t a kingdom to sit back and accept what Jungkook had done to them. King Yeonho was a calculated man and their army was skilled proficiently to bring doom upon any enemy who dared to disrupt their peace.

He assured them that he’d see to it that no form of unfair punishments are imposed on anyone and that he’d talk to General Hoseok and even to the King, if need be. He then went to search for Yoongi again to check with him how the wounded were faring and if the elder was in need of any help from his mother.

Lady Ha-yoon used to be the medic of the King, she wasn’t from Kleon but was brought when the King had suffered a severe injury at war and soon after became a constant by the side of the King. However, she was removed to be kept far away from the palace the moment she became a complication when she conceived Taehyung. She was the aunt from whom Yoongi had gained the skills of being a medic.

But when he barged into the medic’s tent his brows arched to catch a curious scene. Yoongi was solely delved in conversation with someone who was sitting close, a beta he deduced for he caught no scent but he couldn’t see the others’ face yet.

“Hyung, I was-“ he paused seeing the beta scamper to his feet to turn away from him, giving Taehyung access only to see a side of his face. He deduced he must have scared the other “oh…new assistant?” Taehyung asked Yoongi however his eyes stayed on the other.

It wouldn’t be a lie if he said he had never seen a beta with such pretty features and cursed himself inwardly to even have such a thought about a beta, it was almost disgraceful a thought for an alpha to find a beta good looking.

“No” a soft new voice spoke, drawing his attention further in that direction but was instantly cut off by his hyung's cold curt reply.

“Yes”

Taehyung frowned at the two as the beta seemed to get more frightened, wide eyes turning to glare at Yoongi for a short second before he was trying to compose himself again.

"Umm-I...not his assistant" he gulped eyeing Yoongi for a short second, he was really not sure about the suggestion the medic had given him but practically he had no where else to go and there was no way he was going to reveal his powers in front of anyone again. So, there was only one way for him to survive through this... he'd have to protect himself and find a way to return to Eulan.

"I'm n-new in the army" he mumbled almost to himself, flinching to hear the plodding steps come nearer and stiffly held his gaze low.

“Funny but you don't look like a soldier” Taehyung walked closer, looking over what they were actually doing to see Yoongi busy in creating balms and the beta just mutely watching him. His gaze fixed on the beta who still denied to meet his gaze, those soft fidgety hands clasping at his tunic.

“Relax I don’t bite...are you sure you even know how to hold a sword?” He chuckled to think what a joke it'd be to have such a puny wimpy beta among his men.The poor thing will probably get bullied on the very first day. The closer he walked the more the beta coiled into himself and he thought it was probably his trueblood stature and overly domineering aura that was getting him scared. He waited for a reply but seeing the beta stay stiffly frozen in place decided to not scare the poor thing more than he already was and turned to Yoongi.

“What’s up at the palace? And what’s with this omega abduction they’re all going on about?”

He plopped down beside Yoongi, checking the beta stay rigidly in place but now he could get a clearer view and despite the trials to not pay attention to the other, his eyes inadvertently went to the flustered face. It was true that something was oddly curious about him but Taehyung just couldn’t pin point it exactly.

Truly, the beta was impeccably perfect, adorable plump features and glowing ivory skin, his bangs strewn low to cover his eyes.

He didn’t realize that he wasn’t actually listening to Yoongi till the other brushed a hand before his eyes to grab his attention.

“I thought you fell asleep” Yoongi spoke, his words borderline sounding like a taunt.

“And about bringing the prince” Yoongi’s eyes moved to a pale and frozen Jin standing awkwardly a few feet away “the King wanted him as a mate but apparently he fled from the ship, so it’s evident it was a negotiation against his wish”

Yoongi’s words made Jin gulp and pant in his growing anxiousness as he stood there fearing what fate had in store for him now, desperately praying that his pleas to the medic would work and he would find truth in his sufferings and the deplorable plight he was stuck in currently.

The moment that rude alpha was gone, Yoongi had ushered him back inside his tent, cornering him this time to reveal the truth about who he actually was and how he had met Taehyung, more importantly how he had escaped the trueblood and what he had actually done that made him be so fearful about the trueblood hurting him. Seokjin had blurted out the truth about his identity and everything that had happened after he had escaped from the ship since Yoongi had promised to help him out if he spoke the truth…and Seokjin being the naïve soul trusted his words.

“That omega is the prince? I never knew Eulan even had an omega heir”

And it was now that Taehyung realized why that dagger had the royal emblem carved on it. The omega he had come across was the Prince of Eulan...his eyes widened as he sat lost in thought, his mind racing to think what a mess the omega had created for himself by fleeing the demand of the deal struck between the two Kings. A royal negotiation between two kingdoms had been breached and he knew Jungkook wasn’t someone who would take this lightly.

Taehyung was already planning in his head to enhance the guards at the coastline when Yoongi’s next words snatched his attention.

“Well, our King seems very eager to find him though, he has set hunters out to search for him…that omega will be dragged to serve his fate the minute they get their hands on him”

Only Yoongi caught the shivers that ran down Seokjin, his heaving chest rising and falling in sharper succession now.

Taehyung’s eyes snapped to Yoongi. Hunters were a group of highly skilled seekers/assassins who were kept in secret by the royal family, used to hunt down trespassers, spies, traitors and criminals who tried to hide from the law.

And right now, his wolf was simply agitated with the idea of Jungkook hunting down the omega and dragging him to the palace against his will to mate him, it felt wrong, severely wrong to him somehow and every muscle in his body was rigid with fury even by the thought of it.

“No…they will not” Taehyung’s voice was a low growl, eyes flaring up as specks of red burned in them and he felt rage taking over him now “not until I have settled my scores with that haughty little trickster.”

But one thing Taehyung did not realize was that the core of his anger wasn’t revenge for being demeaned by an omega but something else…something he would realize in the days to come.

He heaved up from his seat, walking out with heavy angry steps and Seokjin finally breathed easy but to his ill luck the heavy steps was almost instantly back again.

"What's your name beta?" Taehyung spoke, barging in a second time.

Seokjin felt a shudder run through him at the sudden question and feebly replied "J-Jin"

"Commander" Taehyung spoke as Jin finally lifted his eyes to watch him being utterly confused "you address me as Commander when you're on the field from tomorrow, if you really want to be a part of the troops that is".

Seokjin stilled before weakly nodding to the words.

"Words soldier...it's not a tea party but a battlefield you're preparing for" Taehyung's voice was a growl, deducing the meek attitude of the other unfit for the way of life he had chosen for himself.

"Yes Commander" Jin spoke, eyes finally locking with the other and he felt a profound sense of strength brew in his veins, as if simply hearing that valiant voice charged him with a new power.

"Good" Taehyung turned about to finally leave as he gave him the last orders for today "be present at the field at dawn. If I see you're even a minute late, you'll be made to serve punishments accordingly"

And Seokjin stood there watching his back as the alpha left, waking up at dawn was an everyday thing for him and neither was he scared about training...he grew up through this same routine but it was the fear of facing this alpha every day till he would find a possible escape that made his mind go numb with fear.
