Third Person’s P.O.V.
Hoseok rode back through the borders, anxious thoughts driving his breaths into a rush as he tried to get back to the camps that had been set up by the battlefield as fast as he could manage, and yet he was cursing under his breath because it didn’t seem like he was fast enough with how the enemy troops had already breached through the borders, attacking Kleon from every side.
However, as he rode into the camps a rather queer surprise made his mind slow down a bit and beyond his understanding an odd assurance filled him. For amidst the fear and the ruckus of war, Hoseok hadn’t thought of seeing Yoongi at the camps with men huddling around him as he explained to them the plan to attack well to make sure their smaller number of troops would not fall at any disadvantage against Zyon’s men. His eyes set intently on the map as he spoke and what he lacked in brute strength, he effectively made up with his smart brain.
“Ah…this would be a literal dream…an absolute scene from the romances you know…”
The cheery words in the middle of the sombre situation made everyone there look up at the man who was dismounting his horse and walking towards them with eyes set only one among the many.
“To have my love’s eyes on me as I go into war…” he grinned coming to stand beside an unbothered Yoongi, who however chose to keep his eyes on the other, noting the wounds he had already earned from his previous bout of war.
“We’re under attack, and I am here to join the troops” Yoongi deadpanned, turning back to look at the map “lets’ please concentrate on this, you don’t have much time…”
“So, you heard…didn’t you?” Hoseok noted the stiff worry underlying Yoongi’s words and could tell that he had somehow come to know about Seokjin’s abduction.
“I heard more than you’d expect” Yoongi muttered under his breath remembering that the trouble they were in right now was due to the King’s irredeemable stupidity “I used to believe that he’d grow out of his immature thoughts as time passes but he seems to be only getting worse.”
“What are you talking about?” Hoseok kinda had a feeling that he already knew what Yoongi must be talking about. It was very unlikely for the enemy to be aware of the trap doors which had been breached to attack at the North Gate castle…more importantly, only two people knew about how to get those gates open…one was the Commander, who for obvious reasons would not allow an attack on his home…two, the King…who for obvious reasons definitely would.
He followed Yoongi, who walked to the other side of the tent after he dismissed the troops to prepare for the plans he had relayed and now got busy in getting his armour on.
“I think it is time to take matters more seriously…this isn’t just a mistake anymore…this is beyond what can be termed as a ‘fault’…he endangered his people and all of Kleon…”
Hoseok watched Yoongi’s stern expression as he grasped at his favoured weapons next.
“I think…it is time Kleon realized that the King isn’t worthy to sit on the throne anymore.”
A sliver of something electrical went through Hoseok at those words, his voice fell lower as he spoke next “are you suggesting we-” “There is a fine line between following rules and accepting oppression…” Yoongi’s grey eyes seemed charged with that same impulse that the General seemed to be feeling at the moment “let us ensure that Kleon is never enslaved to fear…but empowered by true strength.”
A corner of Hoseok’s mouth curved as his eyes glinted against those grey ones “well, if you say then I’m in, for better or for worse…besides, if your brother comes to know that the King had helped the enemy to abduct his mate then I do think we’ll be needing a new King anyway.”
He chuckled knowing full well how the half brothers had a way of clashing against each other almost all the time…however, after witnessing Taehyung’s mad enrage just a few hours ago as he cut down any enemy who dared to stand in his way, he was sure Jungkook wouldn’t be spared by the trueblood when he comes to know that he was the cause for his mates’ and pup’s danger.
“Yeah, I know that” Yoongi walked out of the tent “I am just saying that this time I won’t stop Taehyung.”
And as if to answer his intentions an unusual scene flourished before them as they stood gaping at it when they saw a train of royal guards arriving with the King leading them into the camps. The sight not only had them frozen but the entire camp of soldiers didn’t understand how to respond to see their King, dressed in heavy armours as he seemed prepared to join them at the battlefield for the very first time since he had taken the throne.
The men bowed before him, the entire camp falling quiet, heads rushed with confusion and gazes flickering over each other in query while the space grew more eerie with a worried silence.
“I heard the Commander left you all in the middle of the battle” Jungkook’s voice echoed over them, his gilded stallion ready to go into war just as much as the rest of the people breathing there “let us not lose hope men…we must win! And we will! Kleon never loses! Neither does our men accept defeat!”
A murmur grew among the troops, indecisive half words of acknowledgement and the other half uttered confused murmurs about how they were even supposed to do that without their Commander.
Yoongi walked up to where Jungkook stayed perched on his stallion, a frown fast taking over his brow as a shrill irritation began to take over to hear the other defame Taehyung so callously in front of the very men he had trained and trusted. The King’s callous ways were starting to make Yoongi want to oppose his words at every step now that he was sure that probably there was no way to redeem him.
“Our troops are one third of the enemy…so right now we need to find ways to stall their intentions to breach further into the cities, and stop the devastations they are committing all around Kleon” Yoongi spoke up, and Hoseok joined alongside “we need the Commander to actually win this” he knew he could lose his head for being so brazen but it was the dire truth, with how messed up the war had gotten they needed the trueblood to use his greater powers to ensure their victory “charging against the enemy will be a bad decision-” “General” Jungkook’s voice had a chilling command in it “before you speak any further…look towards the horizon” and all eyes turned to see hoards of angry troops advancing through the Northern mountains, ready to charge at them again.
“Do you still suggest we wait?”
A sound of sword unsheathing made them turn to see their King’s zealous resolution to lead the troops and face the enemy.
“When you put your life on someone’s hand who isn’t really chosen to protect you…you must be prepared if they decide to discard you and choose theirs” the words were grim on his lips as he took hold of the reins and began moving to the front of the troops “you all have begun treating him as if he is your saviour…forgetting that his reality is far from it, what happens if he chooses to use that wolf of his against you all instead of the enemy? Have you all forgotten my father’s warnings?!”
No one dared to say a word, remembering full well the last warnings of the late King…they were to always remember that the crown prince was their royal head, he was their protector…he took the decisions of war and every other political decision. He was the one they were to rely on…he was their saviour…not Taehyung. His father had even given Jungkook the right to order punishments on the trueblood and if ever necessary, he had the right to declare his execution as well…as a King he could do that…the law would not consider his decision as a crime.
And Jungkook had already decided that if King Do-Hwan failed to put the trueblood down today, then he was going to use his own authority to ensure the end of the monster who had forever been overshadowing his identity and power.
“There are ways to win if you want to…you only have to learn to harden yourself to make difficult choices when you know the usual ways will not help you win…and as a King protecting my throne will always be my first concern.”
-
Taehyung watched his omega relaxing against him, he could sense the fear, panic and the distress in Jin toning down drastically now as his heart drummed in a droning of soft steady beats and it was oddly quite a calming sensation to him too to feel how at peace and content his wolf felt to know that his mate felt safe and at peace as he relaxed against him.
He could literally see how much their bond had gotten stronger now that Jin had chosen to trust him as his alpha.
He knew that was the reason it was so much easier for him to call him out of the daze when Arcana had taken over…he could see that his commands were working with more ease on him now because Jin wasn’t fighting it…and hence even if Arcana tried he could help Jin get the control back much more easily.
Taehyung remembered how Jin had resurfaced when he urged him to stop and agreed to stay back when he had told him to do so fearing for his and the pup’s safety. He had seen Jin watching him with content eyes as he pulled Do-Hwan out of the crowd to drag him through the dirt and gravel back on that same plinth where he had kept Jin chained knowing that his trueblood was feeding his own fury by pummelling the man brutally till Do-Hwan could barely move let alone fight back. The bloodlust and greed to make the King go through the same pain that he had dared to put his mate through charged in his veins till he let his hands wring the very life out of the alpha.
He had been so engrossed in his fury to end Do-Hwan that he had barely registered when his mate had slipped away to rescue Jimin’s parents.
The stallion was beginning to catch speed now, its gruff noises escalating as the terrain got rockier and they began their journey up the mountain roads towards the borders. His arm instinctively coiling a little more securely around his omega as he leaned into Jin’s head. His trueblood wasn’t happy with the thought of taking Jin into the camps neither with the idea of travelling to the palace with the omega. His mate needed rest and care, this was no proper situation for an omega with a child. And his wolf was literally barking at him for being an incompetent alpha to have underestimated the threat Jin was actually in, the guards he had positioned at the North Gate castle had failed to protect him…he should have anticipated it…he should have made stronger provisions for his mate’s protection.
His gaze moved from the road ahead to fall on the side of Jin’s face.
Betrayal…tricks…or whatever it was that had made the situation go against them, this was his failure as an alpha nonetheless. What if Jin hadn’t been a trained omega and didn’t have ways to protect himself?
His hyung was right…he had probably let himself be casual because he knew Jin could not be harmed so easily…but was it right of him to let the knowledge of Jin being a demigod make him leave his mate and his pup under threat?
Well, he didn’t even need to think too much for the answer though as he decided to shut his grumbling wolf out to choose that he was taking Jin along with him to wherever he went, apparently that was more or less the safest bet. Not to mention he was worried about Arcana taking advantage while he isn’t around to command Jin however what he had caught while fighting against Do-Hwan was a little startling but he wasn’t sure whether it was a good kind or bad kinda surprise, or if it was Jin who was doing it or that arrogant god suddenly had a change of heart.
To him it was startling because the last war Taehyung had seen Jin let his destructive side out, he had seen Jin annihilate thousands of men since whoever came under his white gaze lost their lives. But it was different this time…a lot different actually. This time his gaze had only destroyed those who tried to hurt them, none of the civilians were hurt although he had seen those white eyes graze over the scared and haywire crowd trying to flee in fear. And a part of him was also debating if it was the pup, especially after knowing that the pup had saved Jin…while another part of him was still debating if he should really believe that sly omega, it was bizarre to think the unborn kid could actually do something like that.
Being strong and invincible was one thing but this was unnatural…then again which part wasn’t…he had been getting bashed with new surprises almost every day since he had claimed Jin, or rather if he was being really honest then even the day he had met the omega had been a mighty surprise as well.
He told himself things were getting better now, and he’ll make sure they would get better still as he tried to calm his trueblood’s worries down and dug his nose into that mop of soft brown hair, sniffing and nosing tenderly as a sudden need to groom the omega took over him but the varied scents on his mate began agitating his wolf the more.
“It tickles-” a whiny giggle made him stop, and he felt Jin squirm a little in the safety of his arm.
Taehyung saw the tear on his shirt at the shoulder, and suddenly the knowledge that another alpha had dared to sink his canines in his omega got him even more worked up, his anger and guilt taking the shape of possessiveness.
“Wh-what are you doing?” The voice was a little surprised as Jin felt him pulling his head to a side to nuzzle into the side of his neck, Taehyung’s breath fanning against his skin and it made a shudder run through him. But he got no reply, except the alpha running his nose over his scent gland before he was rubbing the side of his own neck against his.
It took a little longer for Jin to understand that his alpha was sharing scents, as he covered both of them in each other’s musk. It was unusual, his alpha didn’t usually groom him or share scents although it was actually a very satisfying feeling…but that was until he noticed how Taehyung had left imprints of all that ugly blood and dirt that covered him due to the war he had faced earlier.
“You’re getting dirty stains on me…!” Jin’s voice had a whine that dragged after he had said the words, a pout surfacing as he noted the stains before looking up at the other.
“You stink of that dogshit King. My wolf is annoyed…” his voice went lower from being annoyed as his gaze met Jin’s, the soft brown hue of the omega’s eyes glinting to become pools of golden as the sun struck them “okay…my bad…I will stop if it’s making you upset.”
“I didn’t say it made me upset” Jin’s voice was soft but clean without any hint of confusion “it’s the opposite actually…I’m not used to your affection, so I get a little unsure about how to react to it when you do…”
“Unsure?”
Jin gave a soft sigh “I can’t figure out if you want the same or…” “Want is a difficult way to put it” Taehyung spoke, voice deep as he thought on the words Jin had just spoken and his mind ran through the few memories of sharp realisations that denied to let his mind ease no matter how hard he tried to mask it under work, responsibilities as the Commander of an army and his duties as an alpha to his mate “I have learnt that according to you, I’m not really allowed to want anything from you even though I am your alpha” he saw Jin blinking back at him, it was that innocence or rather ignorance in those soft eyes that made him curse himself the more “how do I ask something of you if you don’t want to give? What have you willingly given me till this day?”
His gaze stayed on Jin’s blinking ones, who looked startled and unprepared for the question.
“I don’t think you gave me the permission to ask anything of you…I mean ‘you’…not circumstances…not my wolf’s demands…not because you needed to…but because you wanted to” his voice fell a little lower, the usual loud thundering tone rather a soft mumble at the time “although I do know that I have made some mistakes” his voice went lower still, jaw turning hard as he tried to gulp the odd hesitation he felt crawling up his skin…feeling apologetic was still very unusual to him and his trueblood huffed at him for sounding like a coward rather than an alpha who didn’t flinch to claim what he knew was his to stake his claim on but Taehyung decided to speak the words that had been gnawing at him for quite a long time now “sometimes I feel like you’re never going to look beyond those n we’ll never be the kind of mates I wish us to become…”
He stole his gaze away feeling a peculiar and very unfamiliar buzz in his chest, a kind of guilt he didn’t mean to feel but realized that it was still stubbornly there…as it had been since the day that his mate had told him in clear words that he felt no affection for him. The needs, demands and seeking Jin had felt for him were all due to the omega in him that was naturally bound to respond to its alpha.
He had began feeling charmed at the little things Jin would do for him, had began telling himself that the omega was slowly but surely accepting him and it had all gotten shattered when he had heard Jin calling him an oppressive alpha whom he had to accept because he was bound to him.
And even though Taehyung himself had always believed in the law that stated his right to claim his mate n show his dominance over the other, had almost always chosen his duty towards his mate and his wolf’s instinct to act in protecting and caring for his mate…an odd empty feeling of Jin not really appreciating any of his gestures had been clawing at his insides.
Maybe this was a fitting punishment for him because he had forcibly claimed the other, used his dominance to establish himself as his alpha instead of taking time to be mindful enough to understand the other, and for never trying to court Jin either.
He had been truthful when he had said that if he had the chance to do it all again, he’d do it right. But then again…courting? Was it even really something he could do?
Having the ability to get what he sought all the time had made him clueless in the art of gentle conversation to attain an omega’s heart or even in the play of toying gestures and sickly sweet words to touch an omega’s fancies.
He cleared his throat, a slight frown crimping his brows at even the thought of attempting such a thing…it just felt so silly…and absolutely unnecessary. He was a soldier, a man who dealt in swords n death…why would he need to engage in useless banter that helped in doing nothing but bore him out?
He was allowed to demand from his mate what he wanted, he’d allow Jin to demand from his as well…he wasn’t a complete brute, he knew how to balance it out…he’d probably give in to every demand his omega would make of him…yeah he probably would…and he was beginning to fear that Jin knew that as well. No wonder he constantly went against him and did things without any regard of his warnings.
He gulped beginning to sense how the dominance he believed he had over the other was turning to become but a flimsy shade of authority and felt warmth washing over him although he knew not for what reason he felt his face heating up like the way it currently was.
He felt Jin go quiet as his head slowly turned away from watching him to look ahead as well…and this silence from the omega made Taehyung believe further that his mate didn’t feel the buzz in his chest or that warmth that often seemed to take over him though. So, he let the silence stay…he was already cursing himself for saying too much, and all sorts of regret was going through his head for saying out loud what he had felt.
He really should have kept quiet…let it stay as it was…they already had a lot of stuff going around, they didn’t really need another issue to disrupt their sleep.
But the truth was, he had tried brushing it aside…and it hadn’t worked.
He chose to focus on the road ahead instead as he tried to brush away that weird buzz in his chest and reminded himself that they were still in the middle of the war, and he couldn’t let such thoughts take over his mind right now.
Thank heavens Jin didn’t know the truth of what the mere sight of his big brown eyes catching the sunbeams could do to his entire being or how choked and out of words he felt at the moment to sense that soft warm touch remain on top of his palm, an unfailing assurance from the omega that he and the pup both felt safe and secure to have the alpha close.
“You sure you’re ok?” Taehyung asked still concerned remembering how torturous the pain had been that he had sensed Jin going through.
“I feel fine” Jin mumbled lightly nodding, his words short and rushed before Taehyung gently pulled him to relax against him again, he knew how stubborn Jin could get and right now he just wanted the omega to feel at peace, after the stress and pain he had felt him go through.
“I just…feel like lying down…it’s been a long day” he sighed accepting his alpha’s caring gesture, leaning his back against the alpha’s chest again as his hand gently moved over Taehyung’s while both their warm touches remained on top of his belly “he is fine right? I know Jimin said so…I just-” “He is fine…better than fine actually…I think Ar-…your omega transferred all that energy you drew to him” his voice was a little heavier than usual as he tried to overlook the slip he had almost committed, he wasn’t sure if he wanted Jin to know yet “I guess it’s the reason you feel exhausted still.”
There was a pause and he could feel Jin going taut against him, his scent suddenly distraught and Taehyung was about to lean in to check if he was going through any sort of discomfort when he heard him speaking again.
“Jimin said something very weird…actually showed…I don’t know if I should really believe…it’s bizarre…I don’t know if he was lying to me…I don’t even know why he’d lie about something like…I-” he stopped abruptly, his voice flat and yet sounding very disturbed.
Taehyung’s attention was back on that soft mop of hair as Jin spoke with his head lowered and not meeting the alpha’s eyes.
“You know about it don’t you?” The words were quite soft but the distress in his voice was too sharp to not notice for the alpha, who didn’t really know if he should tell Jin that he knew or it was nothing he needed to worry about since somewhere inside he too was equally perturbed with the same bizarre information of his mate being a demigod.
Taehyung realized his intention to keep Jin from knowing about it all had been ruined, he had wanted to sit down and take his time to talk about it with the omega because he had a feeling this would have heavy effects on him…and he really didn’t want Jin to be more stressed than he already was, he could flip out or Arcana might react in some dangerous way and it could get risky for Jin as well as for the pup, especially if Jin tried to fight against the spirit within him…he didn’t really know what new surprises were in store n right now he really didn’t think he could afford any.
But he realized there was no going back now…if he lied to Jin now, his omega will probably never again try to put his faith on him…Taehyung realized he would have to be strong and hope he could keep the omega in control.
“I do” Taehyung’s voice had a heaviness Jin had at times sensed when the alpha was lost in thoughts.
“So…it’s true…”
Taehyung felt a shudder run through the omega, his shoulders slumping down as he saw his head tucking lower till he could feel Jin fighting to suppress his sniffles that threatened to tear through him.
“I killed…my mother? It’s true?” The sniffles choked his throat as a fit of coughs took over him as he began full on sobbing next, especially as he begun to realize that Taehyung wasn’t saying anything and his fear of the ugly truth had him feeling disgusted of himself “I-I killed her…I really killed her?? Noona knew everything and yet…yet she n-never said anything to me?? No one ever tells me anything!!!”
Hiccups spaced his exclamations, and Taehyung could trace the anger in Jin’s voice as he began realizing how all his life he had been kept in shadows…far away from the reality that he was actually born to live and as his alpha he did what he thought he could, he held the omega to himself as he saw Jin breaking down in a fit of sobs and angry accusations and grief he knew not how to tackle. He let Jin have this freedom at least…the freedom to be angry…the freedom to show that he was upset and he had grown so used to seeing him lash out at him so many times that it almost felt better to see the omega lash out this angrily at everyone else for a change.
“Why would mother even think of doing such a thing?” Jin sounded like he was arguing with himself “they chose to turn me into this-this…ridiculous cursed thing!! And then accused me of being weird!! And then locked me up for seventeen years!!”
“She did it to save your life-” “Well…look at my life!! Did I even get to live??!”
“Jin-” “You marked me because you knew about it didn’t you?” Jin snapped back at the alpha making Taehyung’s jaw go tight instantly.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He was trying to not get angry and keep the snarl that his trueblood gave at the disrespect from his mate to himself.
He nostrils flared as his gaze met Jin’s fiery ones, staying there as their angry gazes battled each other’s before Jin decided to throw a few more biting accusations at his alpha.
“Is that why you were so eager for a pup huh? You’re just like your father aren’t you? An invincible heir…is that all you seek from me?”
And Jin didn’t realize in his anger that this was an offence that he should not have committed….well, he did realize it but only after seeing how the alpha reacted.
He saw Taehyung’s eyes blaze a dark red, his gaze burning into Jin’s brown ones and his chest heaving as his pheromones grew alarmingly furious.
Taehyung felt something burn within him at this new accusation his mate had burdened him with…and he realized it wasn’t just anger that he was feeling right now. He exhaled sharply, snapping his gaze away from Jin’s choosing to not say a word as he deeply sighed this time and it was a deep sigh of regret.
He wanted to scoff at those words and tell his clueless mate that it was Arcana that had lured his trueblood out to chase after him, that it was a fate beyond their control to stop what was fated to occur when he claimed him…and the heir the omega was supposed to give him was bound to become a vessel for a divine spirit. He wanted to scream at him that he was not the one who had used him to acquire an invincible heir…and the truth was it was actually quite the opposite.
But his pride wouldn’t let him say it out loud…more importantly, he had been telling himself constantly that all those words that Arcana had told him weren’t true…it was he who felt the bond when he had first seen Jin, that it was he who had claimed him because he believed Jin was his true mate, that it was he who had believed that their bond would grow stronger with a pup to care for together.
A sort of incompetence ate through him to think that even after months of being mated to the omega he had failed to ensure his mate that he cared about him…that he mattered to him in a way no one ever would…his omega seemed to have really never felt an ounce of affection for him. Their wolves were so closely bonded and yet their humans so confusing and difficult, Taehyung wondered why was it so hard for them to trust the bond and just understand the other?
However, the worst hit of all was that he had been accused to have the same intentions as his father for a child who would be useful for the kingdom n to keep his own honoured name to have fathered an undefeatable alpha heir…not really a son he intended to love. And this hit from his own mate made Taehyung turn dreadfully grim, the kind of quiet Jin had rarely seen him be…and it honestly scared the omega to sense how freaking mad the alpha currently was.
Jin had realised the harshness in his words too the moment those had slipped out of his mouth, and now as he saw the alpha battling with his anger and something else that kind of looked like the discontentment of a failure as his frown remained constant while he kept struggling to keep his flaring breathing in check. Jin could tell he had just thrown his anger at him instead.
He felt his omega sense the hurt he had just caused his alpha and left a scar he couldn’t heal with just a touch because Taehyung denied to even look at him.
It was in that moment that he realized that some silences spoke louder than a thousand words.
“I…you could…if you knew then why didn’t you say anything?”
“Keep your eyes ahead, we’re almost at the borders” Taehyung’s voice was low and flat, devoid of any hint of emotion at all.
Jin gulped to himself how the mere tone made goosebumps arise on his skin and he dared not speak anymore, nodding on instinct as he sensed the grim anger coursing through the alpha.
They rode a little longer to reach the borders and realized that the war was still on going because the news of King Do-Hwan’s end did not seem to have reached them yet.
Jin’s breath hitched as he saw Taehyung guiding the stallion into the jostling, roaring and violent crowd of soldiers busy in battle.
“A-Are we-” “What is it?” Taehyung felt a grasp on his arm that held the reins he was using to guide the stallion which was rushing towards the scene.
He wasn’t sure it was fear that had him feeling this worried or his omega’s instincts to ensure the safety of the pup but Jin could feel the rush of something utterly chilling coursing in him as his heartbeat began to rise. The guilt he felt adding onto it as we he began feeling worse, the omega in him seeking to hide and mope and just nestle in some comfortable nook surrounded with his alpha’s scent.
And the more he looked ahead at the terrifying scene, the more he wanted to get away from there.
Jin didn’t say anything but Taehyung could feel the grasp getting tighter and his mate’s scent getting distraught with fear. His anger toning down to see his mate in distress as he leaned in to check what was the problem with the omega when he noted the shaky breath and those glossy eyes.
“War still scares you?”
“N-No…” it sounded like a lie on Jin’s lips though “but so much blood and death and-hnck!”
Taehyung’s arm around him tightened instinctively as he held his mate to himself to have the stallion heave and charge at a sudden attacker, the animal startled and unruly in its movements.
“Easy there boy…come on Zeke…calm down…easy-easy…”
Jin heard Taehyung trying his best to calm it down before he guided it safely through the maze of slashing swords and angry battleaxes.
He heard Taehyung unsheathing his sword, the approaching dusk painting the horizon in crimson n purple tones as he saw him spill the first blood and Jin could feel his pheromones changing from the lulling ones he had been holding onto to make him feel secure to that of his trueblood’s blazingly dominating one, drawing all attention towards them.
He felt his own hands working in their own volition as well, his sword ready in his grip and it was then he realised that the chilling feeling he had been sensing was beginning to get replaced by the spur of excitement.
Something within him was patiently waiting to step into the field of carnage and be a part of the war…a voice that said that their strongest weapons were but puny little things before him…and right now as he set his gaze over the thousands who were too busy in their own principles of patriotism, valour, duty, greed…it smiled inwardly and told him to kill them all…spare none who dared to stand before him.
Right now before the picture of the massacre he beheld this felt a lot better than feeling like a weak little omega cornered and afraid to be facing the prospect of war….and that was the reason Jin decided to give in to that voice, let his guard down as he allowed the monster within to win and chose to become the curse he had forever been hailed as.
The change was but a soft hush of brewing power and feathery lashes fluttering open to reveal a deathly white gaze as Arcana smirked to have full permission to control the vessel.
“I don’t think you’ll have to make that detour to the palace…the deer has chosen to walk into the den…” the voice was a prideful scoff, as specks of white swirled in a dazzling mix in those soft brown eyes beyond Jin’s knowledge.
Taehyung was too busy to understand what Jin was talking about before he moved his gaze from the wounded soldier who fell lifelessly to the ground towards where Jin had his gaze fixed. It was needless to say that he was stunned for a moment to see Jungkook among the troops of Kleon, a horde of royal guards at his side to protect him from threat as he attacked the enemy soldiers.
“I guess you’re right” a smirk pulled at the corner of the trueblood’s mouth as his red gaze noted the scene, the wolf in him eager to get its revenge at long last.
-
Troops broke upon furiously on the opponent, swords clashing and cries of death were equal in number to the roars of victory as the war carried on with its brutal carnage.
Yoongi’s horse was injured and before the alpha could manage to jump off it tumbled to the ground with a pained grunt, throwing Yoongi down as well.
“Fuck! Can you get up?”
Hoseok jumped off his horse to hurry to the other’s side, his gaze worried as he helped the alpha up.
“I-” his face contorted in pain as he hobbled to get his footing back “I think I broke my leg…” Yoongi spoke and almost instantly Hoseok had his arm around him, shouldering him to stay on his feet.
“Hold on a bit…I’ll take you back to the tents” he was about to help him mount his horse when a growl erupted from the other end of the field, drawing all attention to it and they felt the trueblood’s command to acknowledge his presence echoing through them, and almost instinctively they accepted the command as they turned to see Taehyung drawing the enemy’s attention towards himself.
But more importantly, they noted how almost instantly all the troops eagerly waited for their Commander to lead them now and except for the royal guards no one else waited for the King’s instructions anymore.
They watched Taehyung ride through the crowds of armed soldiers, sword stained with fresh blood while his mate accompanying him and kept safe behind a shield.
“Ah…I guess we are saved…he’s back” Hoseok was almost about to rejoice and his smile proved how relieved he really felt “I swear I’ve never felt this happy to see him.”
“He brought Jin” Yoongi however seemed startled as well as confused by Taehyung’s actions, his words showing his inner dilemma to understand what the younger was actually thinking “something’s not right…”
“What do you mean? He must have rescued him and decided to come to end the war…” he sounded pretty sure of his derivations.
“I don’t know…but something’s just not right…this is the same feeling I had sensed the last time we were at war in Eulan...”
-
Taehyung noted archers targeting them, and although he had ensured they wouldn’t get wounded but a few of those arrows had hit the stallion which wailed loudly and gave out disgruntled noises as its steps began faltering and direction got unruly. However, before he could charge at them, their bodies shrivelled to nothing and his gaze moved to see his mates eyes simply blinking in that direction.
“Jin” there was no reply so he pulled him back, his insides filling with concern to realise Arcana had taken over Jin again.
Taehyung saw Jin’s head turn about to tilt up to him, his white eyes weren’t furious or murderous right now but playful with a hint of arrogance.
“Know that I will keep my promise-” “Don’t make me command you to submit here” Taehyung’s voice was a low threatening growl as he sensed Arcana taking over his mate and tried to help Jin gain back the upper hand but he soon realised Jin was trying to hide away from him and the war.
“Your mate gave permission this time, he doesn’t want to take over…his omega not fit to endure this war right now”
But Arcana seemed a little less cruel this time, and its concern higher as it caught sight of a crowd of enemy soldiers gathering around them as they targeted the trueblood to attack him from every side. The instinct of protectiveness over his mate spiked when he saw Taehyung guarding him desperately and earning himself varied cuts and gashes. The blood on him made Arcana’s softer mood vanish and he let his unforgiving white gaze take away the enemies lives in the very next moment.
“That is enough killing…let Jin out…” the trueblood looked angry as he spoke the words looming over him, he set another shield on his back before his free arm snaked around the omega again, who looked a little startled at the anger the alpha was showing him even after knowing that he had just saved his life but he didn’t speak a word and instead he seemed like he was going through some inner battle.
There were too many soldiers around, both Kleon’s own as well as Zyon’s, and Taehyung remembered how guilty Jin had felt the last time he had ended killing hundreds of people. He knew although Arcana didn’t mind the carnage, Jin definitely didn’t like such violence…it made him feel worse about his own powers.
“I’m warning you again…do not test my patience…” his concern was rising to think if Jin had agreed to give the upper hand to the spirit on his own whim and he searched those cold dazzling eyes in his growing anxiety, his hand moving from the omega’s waist to grasp at Jin’s jaw as he held his head pressed against his shoulder as he glared down at him now “Jin…don’t give in to it…don’t let it take over you…fight it…break out of it!”
Taehyung wasn’t aware how to undo that or how to help his mate get the control back and it was beginning to make him severely worried now. Well, there was always that one way…he could let his trueblood out and dominate over his omega but that always ended up harshly. His wolf took the spirit’s defiance as sheer disrespect and took its rage out on the omega…however, punishing Arcana meant hurting Jin as well…and with how terrifying things had already been for the omega, Taehyung didn’t want to see him go through more pain.
However, Arcana seemed unbothered with his commands…the white gaze still just as unaffected and arrogant.
“It is no use…your command on him won’t work over mine…only your wolf’s would” the smirk it gave to the trueblood was a snide one proving well that it had been waiting for this opportunity to get its full control over the omega “he let me out on his own free will…and if given permission, I am allowed to use my vessel as I wish”.
No sooner had he spoken, those words were proved true when Taehyung felt Jin breaking out of his arms to hop off of the stallion, before he saw him slipping into the bloody mayhem with perfect ease and speed.
It took him a moment to understand what Jin was doing before he was cursing himself for trying to be sensitive, he should have forced Jin into submission…stupid thoughtfulness really wasn’t his thing.
Taehyung would not show but the frown on his brow and his growing palpitations was proof enough of how helpless he felt right now because he had no idea what to do. His gaze was growing a darker red in anger as his nostrils began flaring, jaw hard as he glared around at the omega’s arrogance, his trueblood blaring at the back of his head to grab at his mate and punish the audacity but he knew better. Jin would probably even fight him right now if he felt threatened.
His worries took the form of rage now as he turned the stallion, following after his mate’s scent which stood out strikingly even against the myriad of ugly pheromones. Taehyung was beginning to think that Arcana was plotting something devious, which in most probability Jin had no idea about because what he saw next stunned not only him but every person there.
The trueblood in him snarled as Taehyung felt his heart stop to see lightning surge through a clear sky, setting an electrical gleam over every man on the field before every enemy soldier dropped unconscious on the ground.
The pause that came was way too loud as those who stood upright had to take some time to realize that their enemy had been defeated in a mere flash. They took startled steps to check if they were dead but checked their pulse to see that they were alive but merely unconscious. The battle had suddenly come to a standstill and yet the soldiers didn’t know whether to rejoice or fear that they would be the next target of whoever the attacker was.
Taehyung jumped off of the stallion, breaking off into hasty steps to search through the crisscross of dazed men blinking at him for further orders or at least clear out what their current situation was as they began following after him in unsure steps knowing that their Commander was the only person capable of doing something like this…but that was till their eyes fell on the omega who seemed to be standing unharmed and unaffected by the surroundings.
Taehyung’s mind had stopped functioning for a while but the scene before him had him breathing again.
Jin was unscathed, looking perfectly calm as his feet stayed planted on the ground while his unmoving gaze stayed on Jungkook who was still perched atop his stallion, the royal guards standing around him in a circle as they too remained just as startled to understand whether the omega was a friend or a foe.
“You love showing off your powers, don’t you little omega?” Jungkook’s voice sounded weirdly fascinated, a smile growing as his eyes stayed on the omega “what? You want to kill me?”
A crowd of soldiers began gathering around to see the scene as well, and Taehyung was the only one who dared to move to walk towards his mate.
“Omega-” the word was a low growl of warning but Taehyung stopped the moment he felt Jin turn to set a palm on his chest, his gaze zapping to it as he instantly clasped at his wrist.
“How dare-” “I share with you to heal” the voice is the same chilling cold but there was a softness in those eyes now as he sensed a touch of concern in them and realised that the omega was beginning to respond…he wasn’t gone…Jin hadn’t given up completely. He felt the wounds disappear, the pain non-existent soon as he tried again to call onto his mate.
“Either you let my mate take back the control or I’ll force you back behind that seal…you know my trueblood will easily do it” Taehyung muttered under his breath to the omega. From the corner of his eyes he could now see Yoongi, Hoseok and almost everyone gathering around now, all of them trying to understand what had just happened.
There were no words as he saw those white eyes gazing at him but he could clearly sense Jin’s aura behind it rather than Arcana’s arrogant divine strength. Taehyung fell silent as well, frown going deeper to understand what was actually going on…whether the words that Jin had given up the control to Arcana was true or was it that the divine spirit was overpowering it and Jin was struggling in there to claim the control over himself.
“Jin…the seal ensures your control over the spirit within you…don’t give in to it-” his words were cut off as Jin turned to face him now, the palm on his chest had a force to it now and Taehyung could see a different kind of zeal burning in his mate’s eyes.
“You shall have this revenge to your name…this war will not end till your victory”
The words were resolute and every ear there knew what the omega spoke but dared not believe that such audacious words could be uttered by an omega. Their Commander looked equally grim, his eyes unmoving from his mate’s as he let those words run through him and the truth in them charging his intentions more.
“It is but his destiny to fall…and yours to claim what you were born to.”
And Jungkook’s eyes stayed on the omega to hear him speak those words as he realised it was that divinity that resided within the omega that spoke of his destined fate to the one person he never wanted to know about the prophecy.
“Omega! How dare you insult your King!?” The people saw Jungkook dismount his stallion, the guards requesting him not to engage in combat when he commanded them to stand back as he marched towards where his brother and his haughty mate stood.
However, Jin didn’t even move his eyes from Taehyung’s, the angry threats mere noises to the two who stood having a battle of silences before Taehyung spoke to the omega.
“I don’t give a fucking shit about the throne! My fight with my brother is my own…I want this to be my own victory…and I do not want you to interfere in it” Taehyung’s voice was grim, the hint of command evident in it as his trueblood gave a growl at Arcana’s resilient hold on his mate. His hands moved to grasp at Jin’s shoulder as he let his red gaze devour Jin’s dazzling white “I want my mate by my side…I want my omega to see me avenge him for all the pain and hurt my brother had caused him…I want you to see that your alpha is capable of earning you n not just capturing you!”
There was a palling silence after his outburst and one could see that even the King had halted midway at the loud exclamation.
Taehyung looked like he was panting, the emotions roaring in waves through him as he noted those white eyes assessing the words before it began slowly fading to give way to the soft brown doe eyes that blinked at him now and he couldn’t hold back but pull the omega to his chest, his mouth pressing against Jin’s temple in a simple reaction.
It wasn’t an embrace of a couple nor was it a sweet kiss on the forehead, Taehyung just held him there, his hands still clasping at those firm shoulders and his mouth lightly set as he breathed feeling ensured that his mate had gained the control back on himself. He had been going crazy about how to connect with Jin, who seemed to have recoiled into himself and had made the foolish mistake of letting that arrogant spirit free not knowing how it actually wanted to hurt him once he wouldn’t be useful to him anymore as a vessel…and although Taehyung knew that Arcana wouldn’t probably hurt Jin now, at least not till the pup is born, he was still very very sceptical about what the wicked thing could do.
His own experiences in life had taught him to always expect the worst.
He moved back, drawing a long breath before his eyes moved to where Jungkook stood “I had always known you didn’t have a heart but I realised today that you’ve lost your brains too.”
Jungkook’s breathing was calm and he looked unaffected by the accusation as he let Taehyung finish his words.
“You made secret allies with Zyon knowing they are to wage a war with us?!!”
Gasps and murmurs took over the entire field as the circle of onlookers watched the brothers facing each other now.
“You let Do-Hwan kidnap my mate!!” Taehyung's voice was booming in the open field as he took a step towards his brother, his anger rising with every sentence “you let our enemy know about the trap doors just so you could attack at my home?!! You are a coward Jungkook to try to hurt my pregnant mate just so you could see me disadvantaged!! Are you that desperate to see me dead?!!”
However, Jungkook was still not speaking at all nor defending himself.
“Do-Hwan took the very chance of your mistake and look at what could have happened to Kleon!! You weakling! You call yourself a King??! If you want me dead then have the fucking guts to challenge me!!”
The trueblood was heaving in enrage as he watched Jungkook stand quietly watching his angry outbreak, his gaze sharp yet he seemed unperturbed as ever.
“Is the King of Zyon dead?” It was the first time Jungkook spoke to his brother.
Taehyung was scowling at him now, not sure what that evil mutt was thinking now.
“Do I ever lose?” The reply was a haughty quip from the trueblood as he unsheathed his sword “you should be worried about yourself though” he spoke twirling his sword in his hand before he tightened his grip on the hilt “I challenge you to a duel brother...and it will be a fight till the end.”
