4. Into The Wild
Third Person's P.O.V.
Jimin's eyes stayed unmoving as he watched General Hoseok usher the omega prince into the ship, he could already trace the shift in the alpha General's eyes glimmering with unashamed greed as the alluring scent of the omega serenaded the deck now, bringing many an eye to set on his veiled face.
It was very odd to see that the omega looked completely unaffected by the hike in pheromones around him as he understood that possibly the young prince was gifted in more ways than he was aware. He watched the other fretfully haste to grab onto the railing of the ship as he gazed at his homeland with emotional eyes, biting his lip as he sucked in a shaky breath and walked nearer to him.
"Be happy Prince, you are saving your land" his voice was a slight tease which Seokjin's naïve head was too unsuspecting to judge as he turned to look at Jimin.
"I guess I am" he spoke thoughtfully looking back as ahoys' and farewell were cried into the air. He gazed ardently at the shining domes of the home he had said farewell to long ago. This was nothing new actually, he was used to being sent away. The ship left the port and he let a little sigh leave his lips and his eyes brimmed a little, he was surely scared as he was made to venture into the wild, beyond unknown borders.
"We omegas are a fateful lot Prince" Jimin sighed too watching Eulan fade into the distance as they journeyed ahead over the waters, the sails swiftly taking wind to guide them towards their destination "we have no place to call our own".
"But I have" Seokjin was confused with the insinuation, not fully understanding the depth of the words being completely unaware of the dynamics of power in the society. "I have two actually you see, the palace and the place I used to live" he shared affably with other, adding a little smile.
Jimin's eyes shifted to the prince as he realized how open-hearted and beyond any form of hostility or meanness the other was. He was indeed an innocent soul and Jimin felt a sudden remorse take over him knowing what awaited the other. He saw those gentle eyes crinkle due to the veiled smile and gulped thinking over his steps, and how they had powerlessly followed their lords' wishes.
He had actually planned to be cruel, very cruel to the omega in front of him because despite all his hard work to establish his place beside his lord it was this omega whom his lord had chosen over him, asking him to bring the omega prince safely to Kleon to become his mate.
In a fitful rage he had decided to secretly end the omega, denying to let him take away his lord from him.
However, the only issue that barred his wish was the word about the Omega prince being immortal n that being the reason the royal family of Eulan not being able to kill the blemish to their royal pride.
Jimin wanted to test if the words were a rumour or truth
"If you want I can show you to your chambers" Jimin offered clearing his thoughts.
"Thank you" Seokjin voiced slightly bowing to him before following behind him sceptically.
"You will be sharing a chamber with me, I hope that is not an issue" he spoke waiting for the answer, they had decided it was the best way to keep an eye on the prince to check if he planned to flee. Although they were in the middle of the sea now, he'd probably die if he jumped off the boat to escape.
However, Jimin was aware of the others' unique gifts.
"Umm ok-ay" Seokjin's self-consciousness hiked hearing it but he decided to keep it to himself, it's not like he could be able to fall asleep anyway being surrounded by a horde of unfamiliar people whose gazes on him made him feel unnerved.
He was told that they'd reach Kleon at dawn the next day, and he spent most of the afternoon strolling on deck for this was his first time being on a ship and the limitlessness of the sky and the sea made him realize the vastness that the world actually was, the wind in his hair felt different from the winds that had grazed through his skin in the mountains.
Jimin silently plotted his strike as he watched the omega prince from behind a barricaded window, twirling a vial of purple potion in his hands.
He tried not to think about the justice in what he had planned to do, telling himself that survival will be but a thin chance for the innocent omega even if he is left stranded somewhere to fend for himself. He will probably be picked up by alphas to use him as their plaything and would be pitted to suffer a fate far worse than what awaited him in the royal palace of Kleon.
Death would no doubt be easier.
"Dinner will be shortly served, I say we call him inside now" a voice spoke behind him and Jimin gulped harshly, secretly hiding the hand that held the vial behind the folds of his robes.
"Yes" he replied stiffly and watched the General leave to act on the words.
This could end up in him losing his life as well if anyone would come to know of his plan, his lord would slit his throat without a thought if he would ever know how he had betrayed his plans to acquire the prince.
But Jimin could not tolerate the thought of his desired mate claim someone else in front of him. So, when he heard that Seokjin had requested to dine alone in the chamber, Jimin's palpitations rose as he hastened to make sure he was the one who would serve the other his food.
Although he couldn't stay to accompany him through dinner because the prince was not comfortable taking his veil off in front of them.
When everyone finally retired to their chambers bidding goodnight, Seokjin laid down in his plush bed, silently eyeing the other who was bundled up beneath his covers at the other end of the room, he thought back on the day and what a turn it all had taken. He sighed softly gazing up at the moon as he caught her serenely shining through the thin slits of the barred window to his side.
"I really don't understand what you want with me" he thought out loud "they say when the Gods close all the doors, somewhere they open a window. I hope you are gonna do that for me too, right?"
The night silvered more till purple and crimson nipped at the horizon declaring the sun's oncoming and Seokjin didn't even realize when he had fallen asleep.
He wasn't aware when Jimin stepped out of the covers to get up realizing the other had set all guards down for now and lay vulnerably asleep within arms' reach.
He took calculated steps till he was standing beside the other's bed, eyes fixated on the others pale face and bowed gently to remove the veil the other had denied to remove, finally getting a glimpse of his face.
He smirked to see how innocently stupid the other was, too child-like to even protect himself. It was difficult to believe all the stories he had heard about this omega being a threatening curse because apparently he could annihilate huge armies with a mere wave of his hand.
Surely those were made-up myths...
Male omegas being rare often had such mocking stories associated to them because almost each one had a special gift to help them protect themselves, but it takes only a little for people to create blazing rumours, just like they called him a sorcerer because he could read minds and create hallucinations.
But he had never heard of anyone who had the gift of immortality, there was certainly something about this one.
"Let's see if you really are more powerful than death" his hushed voice hovered over Seokjin who sensing the presence slowly opened his eyes, until he was wide awake in fright and hastily pushing himself back to coil into the head of the bed.
"What are you doing?" He panted with wild scared eyes, realizing a few seconds later that his veil was gone.
"Giving you a chance to save yourself" Jimin's voice was soft but very sharp as Seokjin tried to understand what he meant "but in order to do that you have to let your fears go". He extended an arm to the other who gaped at him confused "I know about your gift because I am exactly like you Seokjin" he grabbed the other's arm "I can hear everything going on in your head right now"
Seokjin listened to him being half in a daze, realizing only now how the omega was aware about his powers without him even revealing it.
"So you can..like right now..-" "Hurry now, what I gave to the others will wear off soon" Jimin warned and Seokjin focused, nodding to the other's words.
They cautiously made their way out of the chamber to tiptoe towards the open deck, the sky a rich canvas of purple and black with hints of crimson rimming the horizon.
"If you cannot escape from this ship before it reaches Kleon your life will be handed to an alpha who will use you to gain his wishes, trust me, that's how alphas are" Jimin spoke almost inaudibly trying to instil the threat that awaited the omega prince as he hastily worked to gather a bundle of thick ropes, urging Seokjin to follow him and as they rounded the corner the prince could the dark silhouette of an awaiting kingdom right ahead of them.
"But your King requested-" "Demanded" Jimin spoke grimly "my King demanded you to be handed to him, to have you as his mate, and your father agreed to it"
Seokjin's world shook at the news as he went silent, he couldn't believe what he had just heard and felt his blood run cold to think how his own father had handed him as an object to become a plaything for an alpha without his consent.
"B-But why did he d-do it?" He felt his throat choke with pain, he had known his father was stern and called him cursed but never had he thought that he could actually do something like this to him.
"To stop the war my King had threatened to wage on your homeland if he didn't get what he demanded"
Seokjin felt panic rush in the more he heard about this adamant King, he didn't sound like a loving leader neither a King who was aware of the virtues a royal should nurture.
"You do know how to swim right?" Jimin asked as he prepared knots and tied the ropes around the prince who was too stunned to follow what was happening.
"W-Why are you helping me? Your King will be angry with you..."
Jimin's eyes snapped up momentarily to go back to work again.
He was actually not trying to help the prince but himself...what could his King possibly do if they said that the sly omega had drugged them and escaped, and never be able to trace him ever again?
He smirked a bit thinking on his sharp brain "we're after all the same, right?" He spoke knowing that the unsuspecting omega wouldn't possibly be able to ever decipher it.
"Thank you so much" Seokjin gushed eyes twinkling with gratification, deducing that at least he could trust other omegas because after all they were all the same.
"Ready?" he asked looking into Seokjin's wide eyes.
"If we ever meet again, I'll return the favour" Seokjin nobly pledged making Jimin chuckle lightly, thinking how he never wanted to see the other ever again "sure, but I'm not big on settling favours...neither grudges".
He saw the ship shifting on its course to edge closer to the port of Kleon and judging it was now or never he snatched out the vial of purple potion and handed it to the other "a gulp of this and alphas won't be able to trace your scent...but it will also snub your omegas' senses, you won't catch any scents either"
Seokjin stared at it to understand what it was that was thrusted into his grip and clumsily stashed it away under his robes as he tried to embolden himself to the next action he would have to do in order to escape his fateful plight.
"Swim straight towards the west, that area is farthest from the palace and it will be easier for you to hide" Jimin spoke checking the binds around the other before preparing to lower him into the water "trades are closed with Eulan for now because of the attack, so I guess you will have to wait before you can return home"
Jimin guided him to the edge from where he was going to lower him.
"This is where you leave, and remember this never happened, okay?"
Seokjin nodded thoughtfully seeing Jimin's sharp threatening eyes as his fear cramped his mind.
But it was when he dropped into the water that he caught the smirk on the others face, flailing his hands to realize how freezing cold the sea was as he gazed up to see Jimin casually walk away without a bother as he half choked with how icy the water was that was turning his skin blue and freezing his senses.
It took Seokjin everything to not lose consciousness when he had finally swam to the newfound shore, he literally dragged himself onto the sand, choking and coughing and gasping for air as he lay powerlessly on the dirt. His rich robes a soggy clump clinging to his skin, his pale skin turned blue as his lips had lost all colour and he could barely see the waves still coming up to trying to pull him back as he lay there.
It was probably an hour later when murmurs woke him up, he felt someone touch his feet, another poked his cheek and someone played with his hair.
"He looks dead" a murmur right beside his ear cleared his senses and he opened his eyes to see a group of young men watching him wide eyed.
"Whoa! He's alive!" Betas, Seokjin thought as he realised the familiar absence of any overpowering pheromones in the air and felt relieved. He sat up groaning with the ache in his limbs due to swimming so hard through the freezing waters.
"Hey? Are you okay?" One of them asked him seeing him unhappily stare at his once pretty clothes now turned stiff and dirty.
"Yeah, I'm okay" "Why are you wearing women's clothes?" One of them laughed out, ridiculing him for dressing up as an omega making Jin blush in embarrassment as he hastily got up.
"What happened to you? Did someone hurt you?"
"Looks like he washed up, he doesn't look like he belongs here" another thought out loud.
Seokjin felt his palpitations rise and tried to act as normal as he could. What if those in the ship realize he had fled and searched for him? He'll be in bigger trouble then if people could recognize him as being 'different'. He noticed them wondering at him and that was when he realized that he had left his veil back on the ship.
"Do you need help to find your way?" One of them asked as they packed baskets of clams and seaweed into a cart, and Seokjin deduced that they must be fishermen heading to sell goods in the market.
And a market was a very good place to hide because there were so many people, no one will be able to trace him there.
However, being as naïve as he was, he forgot that too many people meant higher chances of alphas being present there...higher chances of his unique scent getting noticed.
"Yes" he spoke happily getting in the cart along with the others.
The marketplace was like any other, a large crowd gathered to move among stalls, bargaining and buying things. Loud sellers yelling to everyone of having the finest of delicacies, rarest of condiments and fresh produce to boast about. There were stalls full of glitters and silk, prettiest of jewelleries and shoes that could enchant eyes and the heart. Colours were in abundance there, and so were loud mouths and ruckus as gold coins passed from one hand to another.
Seokjin watched wide-eyed as he moved around, forgetting completely about his need to hide, rather skipped from stall to stall to gape at the varied stuff they were selling.
Of course he was overjoyed to witness this, this was his first time to ever see a market place.
He was so engrossed in all of it that he didn't notice the keen gazes of those dark churlish eyes he drew to himself. His omega senses being unprepared to detect clearly couldn't differentiate the dangerous ones from the rest.
It was when he turned to a lane to check the rich range of beautiful rugs, and robes so beautiful he had never seen anyone wear anything like them that he realized that he had left the loud hollers of the market at a distance. He fiddled with a rose and ivory robe patterned with gold works, it was just so pretty that he couldn't stop gazing at it.
"You'll look divine in that omega, let alpha help you put it on" a thick lustful voice spoke right by his ear and Seokjin shuddered a bit feeling taken by surprise. He instantly left the robe to walk away, hastily stepping around another curve as he sceptically glanced back to see the alpha follow him with a smirk.
"I've never had a taste of one as beautiful as you" he mused teasingly "your scent is too sweet...come to me..."
Seokjin broke into a run this time and could hear the alpha begin to chase him as well.
He panted half in fear and half being utterly troubled due to his robes slowing him down, snatching a piece of cloth hanging from one of the stalls he veiled his face knowing he'd need it if he decided to fight against the other. But before he had prepared himself in the resolution he felt himself being pushed into a wall and in a flash of adrenaline found himself grab at the sleek dagger Jisoo had given him.
The alpha tried to pin him against the wall, snarling and growling against his thrashings and Seokjin slashed a deep gash on his arm in one swift draw. The alpha pulled away with a roar of pain, eyes now flaring fully red as he watched the other push him away to break into a run again.
Seokjin had no idea what he was doing, or where he was going. All his senses were only focused on getting away from the imminent threat, he hastily tried to look for the potion Jimin had given him to be untraceable by alphas while he ran without a pause. But also feared losing his omega senses completely, if he couldn't trace any scent, he won't be able to tell if he was being hunted.
He didn't realize at all when he had passed through a crisscross of narrow lanes to end up in an opening in another side of the market, carriages and horses made him stumble and stop as he tried to sidestep those to flee from the danger pursuing him.
"Wait!" He barely bothered about the warning.
"Stop you will get hurt!" Another cry as he stepped in front of a carriage and scurried across breathlessly to get away only to find himself crashing and toppling over a few distracted people to fall into the middle of a ring of people who were watching a gripping wrestling going on between two tall, well-built and adept alphas.
Seokjin had trained all his life, he was used to wrestling and swords more than he was used to pretty robes or glittery jewels but right now as he gazed at the men in front of him, covered in dirt, their sweat-drenched bodies jostling to overpower the other till a thunderous growl and loud thump to the ground ended the fight as one of them put the other down for good, he felt utterly threatened. He wasn't sure if it was the dizziness of adrenaline but his steps faltered and it felt difficult to breathe, as everyone cheered for the winner and Seokjin picked his gaze to look at him as well.
A bronze toned back with rippling muscles as he flexed showing off his unmatched strength, his shoulders seemed sculpted out of marble and his dark unruly hairs covered his nape. But it was when the alpha turned about, glamorously boasting about the win with a proud grin and the others cheered for him that Seokjin felt a weird powerlessness take over him, something he had never felt before.
To add to his misfortune the heavy alpha pheromone hit him like a boulder, making his legs go weak and he stumbled down onto his knees, the dizziness growing to engulf his senses to force him to cower making tears gather in his eyes in shame.
He always believed he was different, could withstand alpha pheromones without being affected like normal omegas and this made him worry more about why he was feeling so overpowered suddenly. He could see a murmur building around him, as more feet turned to walk closer to him and he took the hint that he'd have to get away as quickly as he could from such a man who could get him this defenseless without even trying to.
He could hear more thudding steps coming his way and panicked when the murmur was replaced with an odd silence. He tried to roughly push himself up needing to run away and pulled his veil lower to hide himself. Taking one shaky step after another, he tried to get away from there hoping to find a place where he could rest a while in peace, without being chased or hunted.
However, he was made to suddenly halt as he felt a rough grip on his arm before he was being pulled back.
"Where are you running off to omega?" The voice was deep, dripping with raging authority and Seokjin had to bite down on his lip to stop himself from whimpering. But he felt a severe lash strike on him on being referred to in such a pathetically degrading way. He had never before been addressed as an omega just because his scent revealed him to be so.
He tried to pull away from the grip but it stayed stiffly holding onto him.
"Oh no sweetheart, don't try to run away now...a winner needs a prize"
And Seokjin yelped loudly as the other picked him up into his arms, now staring directly into those smug prideful dark eyes he realized how much trouble he had actually gotten in now.
