2. The Prize

Third Person’s P.O.V.

A chilling air blew, dark grey clouds hiding away the moon while the ship dauntlessly headed towards the enemy port waiting ahead.

A hooded figure stood glaring in the direction as he silently watched the other ships reach the shore and break upon the enemy, sharp shiny blades glinting and slashing as howls of death rose into the night and the moon silently watched the massacre.

The hooded figure looked up, scowling at the pale crescent hanging among a star-spangled sky, his eyes burning with unbridled rage and violent discontent.

“We are nearing the shore, I think it’s time you put on your armour” a voice spoke behind him and instantly his eyes were back to their regular calm indifference.

“Thank you for your concern General Hoseok but I don’t think anyone holds the power to touch me if I don’t want it” Jimin smirked glancing shortly at the armoured man beside him, a fiery threat lacing his words as his fingers tightened on the edge of the ship.

They went back to silently watch the vivid scene in front of them, their heart beating wildly as they waited to play their part in the combat that awaited them.

“By the time the time the moon is set we will have our prize in our hands and this long journey will finally come to an end” General Hoseok thought out loud as the men swarmed into the deck.

“Oh no my good General” a light chuckle left Jimin’s lips as he smiled into the distance “it is only the mere beginning, for all our fates depend on the prize we have come for…and our beloved liege will not hesitate to have all our heads if we return without it”

All were ready to break upon the enemy, their swords drawn and resolutions fierce as orders were yelled and boots trampled over the wood until everything came to a standstill when the ship hit the port.

“CHARGE!!” Was the only battle cry General Hoseok loudly ordered and hundreds of soldiers jumped onto the enemy land to slash through flesh and bones that dared to fight back against them.

The palace doors were thrown open, boots trampling heavily on marble while pain echoed through the streets outside. The palace had been surrounded, Eulan’s soldiers fighting till the their last breath as they denied to accept defeat, choosing death instead as they stood proud against the harsh wounds the blades created on their bodies.

General Hoseok marched proudly, slashing down whoever dared to stand in his way as he treaded towards the throne where King Yeonho still sat with a head held strong against the imminent threat staring at him.

A young lady clad in heavy armour walked up to guard the King, denying to bow before the enemy General as she breathlessly fought, denying to back down as he kept wounding her and she bled through the scars that the blades gashed on her. The commander of Eulan’s forces barged in with bloodied wounds colouring his skin, his eyes bloodshot and wide as he watched the princess fearlessly protect her father. She was the only one who still denied to back down as she held strong to her pledge to protect the King with everything she got.

“Jisoo” the King’s heavy voice boomed through the hall “that is enough.”

“But father, we cannot-“ “Go and tend to your wounds” he ordered heavily turning from his daughter, the alpha princess of Eulan, to fix his gaze on the enemy General now.

“You have breached through the borders without a declaration of war, killed hundreds of our soldiers and destroyed peace in my land. May I know what is the reason that called for such act of blatant disrespect of our bond with Kleon?” He spoke glaring at the General as more of Kleon’s troops pooled in to ensure their victory against Eulan as they encircled the King now.

“It is simple Sire” General Hoseok spoke with a charming smile, turning the sword down as he let his eyes gaze away from the princess still glaring at him “we have come here for something and intend to leave in peace once we acquire it”

“And what is it that you intend to acquire you filthy two-faced barbarians!? We had a pact to hold peace and you planned a secret attack! Killed our soldiers mercilessly! And yet you dare to talk about peace?!” The princess yelled agitated with their ingratitude and lies, her sword zapping through air to point charge at her enemy.

It had been years that the two kingdoms had held peace, even aiding each other in times of need and now their roguish neighbours from Kleon had dared to cross the thin strip of water between them to actually attack Eulan in the secrecy of the night.

“Yera, take the princess inside and tend to her wounds immediately” the King spoke to Jisoo’s maid-in-waiting, fearing for his darling heir’s safety and the young woman instantly ran to the princess’ side pleading to her to follow the King’s orders.

Jisoo was still fuming, “I’m not stepping a foot away until they do” she spoke through gritted teeth, her alpha instincts denying to bow till she had seen the very end of her enemy and stiffly denied her father’s orders.

She glanced at the Commander -in -chief of Eulan, Namjoon and a silent order passed between them as the man instantly came to her side, in case the princess’ wounds made her fall short to stand guard to their King.

“Tell me General, what is the prize you’ve come here for” the King turned his enraged eyes back to the General “but remember I will hold your promise of peace as a valid promise in return”

“Of course Sire, you can be assured about that, and to show you our gratitude we will pledge to forever aid Eulan in future, a timeless amity is what we are looking for….if” he walked a few steps nearer to where the King sat and instantly two swords barred him “if we get our prize…which is but a pact that our new King is eager to settle with Eulan.”

General Hoseok smirked to see the stiff resolution in the others faces, who held the swords right against his throat.

“What prize maggot?” Jisoo spoke through gritted teeth as she snarled at the haughty man.

“Ah..come now…this is no way to talk to your family, is it?” A light laugh chimed in the air and scowls grew as the General’s laugh filled the court making everyone more unsettled.

“Our new King hopes for a bond stronger than just a mere pact” he began, eyes flitting about the room to take in the tense air that hung over them.

“Our King hopes for a bonding” his eyes come back to fall on Jisoo’s angry eyes as she tried not to let her alpha rage take over, a flaring red circling her irises “he is willing to choose a mate.”

“Some nerve-“ Jisoo began enraged but was thunderously snubbed by her father “Jisoo! Remember it is not your decision to make!”

“Father I deny to accept-“ “Not your decision to make! Your people comes before you…always! You cannot think like a little girl anymore!” The King rose from his throne, eyes flaring fully red now and instantly the entire court fell into a silent submission.

“Y-Yes Father, I-I apologize” she spoke, voice faltering as she felt her father’s angry gaze on her.

“If it is an offer of peace, we are ready to listen. But remember one thing General, what you have done tonight if it is ever repeated I will not back down, Kleon is known to have made quite a few enemies since your new King has taken the throne. And as the King of Eulan I promise I will make sure to raze your land to dust before I see the ruin of my own” he walked closer to the man in slow heavy steps till he was towering over the General, who had gone rigid and silent to sense the boiling authority in that enraged voice.

A thin clinking of tiny bells chimed in the air, an elegant figure draped in a dark veil becoming visible as he approached in graceful strides.

“Let us not waste time in all this threatening and fighting Sire…it is but a time of celebrations” the voice was a smooth an alluring one, a soft giggle aroused all their interest as the poised figure came to a stop right beside the General “our King has been ardently waiting to get his hands on his prize”.

“A bond of two royal alphas, to rule over two kingdoms is surely a very happy assurance. I have faith in my daughter-“ “Not the princess Sire” Jimin spoke eyes sly and conniving as his smile grew louder “we’re here for the prize you keep hidden among the mountains”

An instant shift took place in the eyes of the King, his hard flaring eyes growing visibly fearful at the words.

“The heir you keep away from the world, he is what our King desires for” the General spoke and in that instant both Jisoo and Namjoon’s swords were back in place, eyes hard set as they realized that they must have some ulterior motive because Eulan’s other heir was a well kept secret that apart from the people in court no one was aware about.

“You have some wrong news General, the heir you are talking about has been dead for a long time-“ “Yes, Eulan had declared him dead the very day he had proved to be an omega, what a fateful life he must have had…the only male omega a royal family had ever birthed” Jimin spoke knowingly, he was aware how male omegas were dealt with among the royals.

They were symbols of weakness, their pathetic low status brought shame to a family and royals effectively took care to have no such blemish to their names by beheading them the moment they proved their status at the age of four.

“He died of illness” Jisoo cleared, voice stiff and flat as she gulped keeping her eyes straight on Jimin.

“That is but a very very weak lie princess” Jimin spoke, enchanting eyes now glowing a pale blue as he smirked at her “dying is very difficult for one who had been gifted with immortality”

A hush fell on them all as their eyes grew wide, knowing that the entrancing figure before them must be no normal person as they caught a smile he gave them.

“So now, will you get our prize while we peacefully wait or do I have to make you bring him to us?” Jimin spoke, haughtily glancing at his beautiful nimble fingers adorned with multiple rings.

“We are not sure about what you all actually looking for, it’s sheer madness what you’re talking about” she scoffed “immortality? Pfft! No wonder you gotta hide your face behind that veil for how much of a fool you are!”

But no sooner had she spoke Jimin’s pale blue eyes zapped to her, a glare at her and Jisoo gasped stumbling back choking as Namjoon came to help her, frantically trying to understand what was happening to her as he held to an almost unconscious Jisoo.

“I will not hurt her dear Commander, just make sure you get our little prize to present here at court by tomorrow morning” Jimin assured as Namjoon gazed up at him with absolute fear and shock in his eyes “but if you don’t then it’s a whole different story”

“O-Okay-Okay! Now stop whatever you’re doing to her!” He shouted at him, and finally breathed easy to see their heir to the throne safely breathing again, as she tried to catch her breath.

Long after the troops had cleared and Jisoo had been finally taken to the inner chambers for her wounds to be tended, Commander Namjoon sat waiting for the King’s decision. The throne room peopled only by a few trusted people of court and a grim silence threateningly stared back at them.

“This is what I feared” the King spoke as if to himself as he stared at the floor, his fists pressing tighter in held back fury “I have kept him hidden for seventeen years Namjoon and yet now our kingdom is facing dire threat because of him…and his mother would rally against me about calling him a curse” he darkly chuckled to himself shaking his head as the crown glittered proudly against the flickering lights in the sombre room.

“I know you care about him Namjoon” the King stared down at his most trusted man. The man he had given the duty to take his cursed heir away from the common eye to hide among the mountains. The man who had made sure the young prince lived in great care without knowing any hardship. The man who had pledged to himself, against his King’s liking, to ensure that the young omega would not be treated as a mere plaything but will be given as much honour and care any royal should be.

“It was seventeen years ago when I had asked you to take him away from my eyes” the King’s eyes grew teary thinking back to that fateful day, how the young boy had cried denying to go away from his home, pleading not to be sent away and how heartless he had been to look away “and today I am asking you to bring him back. I am aware that he trusts you, and I am ashamed to make you do this. But it is something that I have to…the people will always come first, even if it means that I am being cruel to him”

Namjoon felt his heart thumping wildly inside him as he sat to listen to the words, trying to understand what the repercussions of his actions would be and how brutal it would be for the young omega.

“Yes my Lord, I will bring him back here” he spoke as the words made his heart crumple outrageously and he shook with remorse, pitying his own weakness to not be able to say all the words he wanted to his King. He wanted to say this was a wrong decision, he wanted to say that it would be sheer cruelty to send the boy with the enemy but he held his silence for it wasn't his place to speak against what his king has decided.

“So, we are just going to hand him up to them?” Another pained voice spoke up as they tried to understand why their enemy was so intent on getting their hands on their secret.

“Peace never comes without a price” the King spoke thoughtfully, sighing as he tried to pacify his own heart for the decision he had taken.

“Do you not remember what Mother said?” Jisoo marched inside the room as the wide heavy doors closed behind her “he is never supposed to have a mate. It could destroy everything”.

Her voice raged against their decision to just hand her brother over to the enemy, the brother she was allowed to meet only once a year when she’d go to spend his birthday with him so that he won’t feel completely left out and alone. It was her way of being apologetic to him because her stiff alpha pride wouldn’t let her tell him how much she wished she could take him back home.

“You think we have any other choice-“ “He is very well trained, he could probably help us-“ “Then I hope that training helps him to protect himself” the King rumbled decidedly putting an end to her arguments.

“But Father..” she was almost whining, her eyes troubled with concern “he has no idea about the world. Those people are anything but kind, God knows what they’ll put him through! You think he’ll want this? To be trapped away all his life and then be handed to the enemy? This is wrong Father! He’ll get terribly hurt to know what he has been thrown into” her voice was a soft plea, like a child asking to her father to listen to her.

“And that is why no one will utter a single word about this to him”

Namjoon and Jisoo paled, watching the King with unsure eyes as he said the words.

“We all have a purpose for our existence Jisoo” he stepped up from his seat, walking across the silent figures around the room to stand beside a large bay window that gave a perfect view of the kingdom draped in darkness. His gaze roamed over the red ambers of the burned down houses, carcasses strewn all over and heart wrenching wails for the loss of loved ones echoing to pierce through his heart. He slowly looked up to see the moon, shrouded darkly behind the clouds.

“Maybe this is why the Moon Goddess had cursed him with those dreadful powers of his…maybe this is the sacrifice he was born for” he spoke as his eyes watered, thinking of the sacrifice he would have to make as well.

It is difficult to be a leader, for it befell on him always to make the greatest of sacrifices to ensure that others were kept safe. This is the price he paid in return for all the pledges that the people of his kingdom took in his name to lay down their lives if the nation ever demanded it.

Power is never in a name, neither is it held in the status of blood but in always remembering their greater responsibilities than the rest, and the amount of strength he can hold while sacrificing his dearest.

[A\N] So yeah, completely out of my comfort zone I guess. But I kinda love a challenge... should I continue with this plot or no?
