Chapter 9

Marinette was debating what to do - design clothes or try to go back to sleep when she heard a knock at her window. She looked up to see Chat looking particularly bedraggled, so, she let him in and he transformed in the bathroom, putting on the mask out of habit and went and kissed her good morning.

"Princess, can I please sleep with you for a couple of hours. I didn't get much sleep, I kind of got use to you next to me." he begged her.

"Sure kitty," she agreed, ruffling his hair, eliciting a purr out of him.

Marinette and Adrien lay down on their bed and Adrien pretty much fell straight to sleep his arms wrapped around Marinette. Marinette was about to drift off to sleep when the sound asleep Adrien started attacking her shirt.

"Need skin...too many clothes," he muttered in his sleep.

To which Marinette's shirt was lifted up to her armpits. It was then she realised how exactly she had been losing her shirt every night for the past couple of months. She managed to keep her shirt on but she couldn't sleep, or it would be gone completely.

Seven o'clock came around and Marinette sat up, pulling her shirt back down, shook Adrien awake. "Wake up, Chat!"

"A few more minutes Purr-incess"

"No Chat, we need to talk."

Adrien opened his eyes then very reluctantly. "What's up?" Realising that Marinette had a funny expression on her face changed his question to, "What's wrong?"

"Did you know that for the past couple of months you have been taking my shirt off?" Marinette asked accusingly.

Adrien genuinely looked shocked by the accusation, before defending himself, saying "I have? But your always dressed when I wake up."

"Yeah, you're lucky that I woke up before you and redressed myself or you would have been in real trouble. I told you I didn't want that sort of thing unless we are at least engaged."

"My offer of marriage is still there Marinette, it has never been withdrawn." Adrien said, reminding her of his constant propositions as Chat to Ladybug.

Marinette, in that moment, looked like she was going to kill him but sighed instead, "Ask properly Adrien and I will answer then. Anyway, what are we going to do about us and school?"

"What do you mean? Can't I just treat you as my girlfriend now?" Adrien asked.

"No, you can't." Marinette replied emphatically "They all think that we both are going out with someone else. The only thing I can think of is to tell Nino and Alya that you were going out with me but you had dressed up so I didn't know it was you and it was yesterday that I caught you undressing. Is that ok?"

"Well, that's what happened anyway. But we can't say it was Chat you were going out with. So how will we pull this off?" Adrien reasoned.

"Do you have a wig like Luka's hair but with green highlights?" asked Marinette, an idea springing to her mind.

Adrien's mind slipped into her thought processes easily and clarified what he thought she was thinking, "Like the green lantern?"

"Yeah... that's actually a good idea. No-one knows exactly what he looks like and you disappear like him." well, clearly she had not gone as far as that yet, but she was getting there.

Adrien smiled, thinking about how to achieve the desired result, coming up with an answer he replied, "I will see what I can do in the short time we have. I guess I better go and get Natalie to organise me a costume for school."

"See you there!" Marinette walked Adrien to the balcony where he "claws out"ed and disappeared back to his home.

Marinette remembered then that they hadn't eaten, and packed a snack for him to eat when he got school, because she was pretty sure he wouldn't eat at home. Adrien arrived after her and smiled and said to the question in her eyes, "Natalie is on it."

Marinette nodded, satisfied, and asked, "Did you eat?"

"No, why?" Adrien replied, a questioning look filling his face.

She reached into her bag and gave him the quiche she had packed for him to eat. "Here eat this."

"Thanks Marinette, I don't know what I would do without you!" Adrien smiled in delight at the treat she had given him. He glanced around the school yard and noticed that they were still alone, so, Adrien braved a kiss from his girlfriend. "You've no idea how many times I have wanted to do that!" And started eating the quiche as if he had done nothing unusual.

Marinette, however was a bright red giggling mess as she replied, "probably as much as me."

Adrien smiled again, at her fluster, as he finished off his meal.

Nino and Alya arrived then. "Hey Dude and Dudette!" Nino greeted.

"Adrian, Marinette!" Greeted Ayla, pushing her glasses up her nose, inspecting the pair, wondering if something had changed between them as something seemed different. She could not quite put her finger on what it was though.

"Morning Alya and Nino!" The pair responded in unison, glad to see their best friends, before heading off together to the classroom they were due to study in.

As they sat down in their usual spots, the rest of the class filed in ready for a new school day.

Lunchtime seemed to quickly come around and the 4 went to sit in their usual area.

Marinette didn't know how to start the awkward conversation and sat brushing her skirt out nervously. Seeing her nervousness, Adrien took the initiative and decided to tackle the issue. "Hey Nino and Alya, you know how you asked us who we were going out with about a month ago."

"Yeah, what of it?" Alya answered, narrowing her eyes in suspicion.

"Well, the thing is, I was dating Marinette, but she didn't know that it was me." Adrien admitted, looking away from them as he did so.

"I knew it!" Shrieked Alya, snapping Adriens attention back to her, "So deets please, how did you do it, and wait are you still together? If you are what happened?"

Marinette laughed then, her nervousness gone at her friend's enthusiasm, "Alya please... we can't get a word in edgeways."

"Ah, sorry, go ahead." Alya waved her hand before placing it under her chin as she leaned forward to listen.

"Well, I thought Marinette hated me so I dressed up like the green lantern and started talking with her. We got on so well I asked her out, but she never realised that it was me until she caught me removing my disguise." explained Adrien, as he fiddled with his pencil nervously.

"I was surprised to say the least..." said Marinette, "and to answer your question - yes, we are still going out, just with no disguises."

"Which is a relief for me," said Adrien reaching out to hold Marinette's hand, "I can now hug and kiss my girlfriend now, whenever I want too. I was just holding out till we told you, so it didn't look weird."

"When were you caught out, dude?" Nino asked, curious on how it happened.

"Yesterday"

"And you're not mad Marinette?" Alya asked, raising an eyebrow at her friend.

"No, I am not mad, it kind of made sense to me in a weird way, you know?" replied Marinette with her dreamy but reasoning smile she tended to get whenever she thought about things involving Adrien.

"Yeah, true that," Alya agreed nodding her head, before asking, "So, now we can go out on couple dates? That last one we went out on was a bit awkward, with Adrien looking at Marinette and Marinette ignoring him. "

The pair looked at each other before nodding.

"Well, at least we are on the same page now." Said Marinette, "I was a bit disconcerted with Adrien looking at me like that when I was going out with the green lantern. Well, I thought that I was."

"What are you guys doing this afternoon?" Nino asked.

"Probably homework then I have my ballet lesson" replied Marinette.

"Ballet?! Since when have you done ballet?" Asked Alya in surprise.

"Since I stopped falling over every two minutes," responded Marinette, reminding them of how clumbsy she had been.

"Ah, so that's why! I was wondering what happened. Adrien, I want to see your disguise too. It's got to be good." Alya demanded looking at Adrien in a way that allowed no arguements.

Adrien nodded hoping that Natalie had succeeded in getting the costume. "Tomorrow morning? Is that ok?" Adrien asked, trying to buy a little time. He knew that Natalie was usually pretty good at obtaining what he needed the same day, but every now and then it simply was just not possible. He hoped that today was not one of the impossible times.

"Yeah sure!" Alya nodded, convinced now.

"Marinette can we study at your place today?" Asked Adrien, thinking that he really should get to know her parents better if he wanted to marry her.

Marinette nodded, clueless as to Adrien's plan. She would have noticed if she had been paying attention... Adrien was clearly wanting to ask her parents something.

The bell to return to class rang not long after.

When they left school that afternoon, it was Adrien's first time to the bakery in ages. He was impressed by how welcoming and friendly her parents always were. He thought "This was the type of family I would like to have." And "I hope that they accept me."

Marinette, introduced Adrien as her boyfriend. Her mother placing her hands over her mouth as she gave a delighted squeal. Her father looked like he was going to burst, but the pair managed to restrain themselves from doing anything too embarrassing to Adrien in front of Marinette. Because of the change in relationship status, the pair were now required to study in the lounge and not behind closed doors. Not that it bothered either Marinette or Adrien, as they did need to study. When Marinette had to go to her dancing lesson, he stayed behind and chatted with her parents for a little while getting to know them better, and they him, before leaving for his home.

Upon arriving at his home, he tried on the green lantern suit that Natalie had arranged for him, and found it fit perfectly. It would work well for the small deception planned. He thought he would surprise Marinette by wearing the wig as it looked surprisingly good as the green tips matched his eyes. So, he went on patrol like that.

While Adrian was out and about as Chat Noir, he saw Luca greet Marionette and Marinette greeted him like an old friend. He heard Luka ask, "Are you happy Marionette?"

"Yes, I am thanks Luka. Are you ok?" Marinette nodding, and smiling with stars in her eyes.

"I'm fine, though I miss you." Luka admitted a little sad, but glad to see Marinette so happy.

"I'm sorry Luka, sorry that I can't be that for you, I am with who I have always wanted to be with now." Chat could hear her smiling with happiness and was about to go when he saw Luka kiss Marinette. Jealousy shot through him as he witnessed it.

"Luka!" Marinette gasped, surprised at his abruptness. Luka usually had all the time in the world for her. So she asked, "Are you going?"

Luka nodded, "Yes, sorry, I am happy your happy, but I guess I had hoped...Never mind. Have a good day Marinette" and he rode off.

Chat decided to visit his Princess then as he wasn't too happy with what he just saw.
