♠︎ || Friend And Foe

The house was large. Not mansion large, but it was way larger than our old house, which had the capacity of a broom cupboard in each of its four rooms.

We unloaded our junk from the car and I raced to find my room, which was located upstairs. It was bigger than my old room, with a bare bed to the right corner of the room and a dressing table on the other side. There was a light hanging from the ceiling, and a lamp was on the bedside table next to the bed.

The wallpaper was black blurred into dark blue, and it was all covered in small white orbs, giving it a galaxy effect that I thought looked very cool.

I dumped my stuff on the floor and immediately started decorating my room.

When I was done, the bed had sheets and a red blanket on it, and my autographs were on the bedside table.

My thousands of books were all pushed under the bed, since there was no more room on the bedside table.

My clothes were in the once empty closet to the left in the back corner.

I went downstairs and saw my mum stuffing the kitchen cabinets full of the food we brought. We had left our former home at around midnight, so it was only around 8 am.

"Get dressed, dear! It's almost time to leave for school," my mother told me while putting some cereal into the cabinet.

"What? I thought I was at least going to get one day off!" I protested.

"Aurora, you do act like a child. And, you aren't getting off of school THAT easily, you know," mum grinned at me. I groaned.

"Come on Aura, it'll be fun!" She enthused, and I smiled. Mum knew I wasn't as bothered as I acted; she knew I was as excited as she was.

"Go get dressed."

Our car pulled up beside the high school, which was swarming with kids.

The idea of an area where bullies can go tolerated didn't appeal to me; I wasn't what you would call strong. I was rather weak and... physically unintimidating, so I was pretty nervous about my first day at a new school.

I was dressed in what would be my everyday-wear: a black T-Shirt with the Yin-Yang symbol on the front, with an open light black jacket over the top, blue jeans and black sneakers.

"I expect you be back home by four," mum told me as I kissed her goodbye, bag in hand. "I love you, Aura."

"I love you too, mum," I replied as I shut the door.

I watched the car pull away for a few moments, then I turned around and walked up the steps into the school, which was huge. I was too busy admiring the pillars to notice the person in front of me before I walked into them.

"Oh, sorry! Are you alright?" I asked, recovering quickly from the small impact.

The victim had blonde hair that was tied into a high ponytail. A pair of sunglasses rested above her forehead.

The girl wore a yellow jacket, a white top, white skintight pants, and shoes that looked expensive.

"Watch it!" She hissed. "You totally messed up my hair!"

I was taken aback. "Uh... sorry?"

The blonde sneered at me. "You should be. Do you have any idea who you're talking to?"

I blinked. "No?" I hesitantly replied.

She fumed, apparently offended. "Stay out of my way, new girl!"

I furrowed my brow, annoyed. "What makes you think you can talk to anyone like that? And how do you know I'm new?"

"How dare you! I can talk any way I please; and I know you're new because everyone knows what kind of authority I have," she replied, flicking her hair.

"Look, I said I was sorry. I don't know who you are, but taking advantage of the new kid like that is a dick move, especially when you know it!"

Everyone hanging around the steps was staring at us now.

"Hey – what's going on?" A familiar male voice with an Aussie accent asked.

A boy jogged out from the entrance, his expression softening when he saw me. He had black spiky hair and golden eyes and wore a black jacket over a blue T-shirt.

I internally sighed in relief as he went to stand next to me.

"Don't worry about it, Hunter. This blonde bitch is just being petty cuz I accidentally walked into her."

"I could get you evicted for that!" The girl hissed. "No one messes with me!"

"Hey, gal, you're gonna wanna back off," Hunter said, holding onto my shoulder. I smiled up thankfully at him. His stern expression reminded me of our time back in Australia, when he was mock angry at me after I made a joke at his expense. I spent a little time reminiscing.

Blondie turned her gaze to him.

"And what makes YOU think you have the authority to boss me around?" She asked incredulously.

Hunter growled, moving his hand to mine and squeezing it. "Listen here, barbie, either you leave my mate alone or –"

"What's happening?" Another voice called. Two girls approached us from the street, pushing through the crowd. One had dark blue hair tied in pigtails with red ribbon, and the other was a brunette with a flannel and denim jeans.

The pigtailed one had blue eyes and wore a blue jacket, over a white top with pink flowers near her right.

"Is Chloe causing trouble again?" The pigtailed one asked.

"I am NOT!" Blondie – Chloe – yelled. "I just needed to teach this brat a lesson!"

"Excuse me!" I intervened. "You're the only bratty one!"

Hunter spoke up, sighing. "Aurora was trying to be nice to this airhead and she started raging like a forest fire!"

The blue-haired girl looked like she was getting madder.

"Marinette, you have to calm down. I'll take care of this, girl," the brunette reassured her friend.

Dark Hair, Marinette, sighed. "Thank you, Alya."

Brunette – Alya – nodded.

Chloe stamped her foot like a child.

"She bumped into me! Then had the nerve to diss me!" She whined.

"I could hardly call what I did dissing you. I said sorry and you acted like a jerk about it!" I shot back.

"Like I said before, you're obviously new, because anyone else would know not to talk to the MAYOR'S DAUGHTER like that," Chloe grinned.

Oh.

Oops.

"Where's your slave, Sabrina?" Alya asked, venom trickling her voice.

"She's not my slave, she's my friend," Chloe argued.

The bell rang.

Ha ha.
Saved by the bell.

Chloe growled lightly, and walked off.

"Hey, thanks for standing up for us," Hunter said to the girls, holding out his hand to shake theirs.

"Hey!" Alya replied with a greeting cadence. "No problem. Trust me, dealing with Chloe is like part of the schedule now," she snarked, which made all of us laugh.

"Alya, and this is Marinette," Alya shook hands with me and Hunter, and Marinette did the same.

"I'm Hunter, and this is Aurora. We just moved here together from Australia," Hunter grinned, squeezing my shoulder again.

"Yeah, I noticed you two acted like you new each other. Best friends?" Marinette asked, her bluebell eyes sparkling at the thought of new friends.

"Yeah, actually. Ever since kindy." I smiled.

"Oh! School!" Alya exclaimed, the mention of kindergarten jarring her back. "Since you guys are new, you're probably in our class. Come on, we'll take ya there!" Alya smiled.

I glanced at Hunter. We grinned at each other as we followed our new friends.
