Lady Gemini: Origins

Also for the wonderful and underappreciated bleuebellebleue . Her stories to tell are a thousand times better than mine could ever be.

Also, Rubee- , I really advise that you not read this chapter. You don't want to.

Adrien’s POV

Chloé was there when he received the ring.

Of course she was - she lived with him.

She was the one to open it, grabbing it from him. The little flying cat, who they'd later learned was named Plagg, had bitten her, spitting, “You're not my Chosen!”

Then he'd caught sight of Adrien, who observed in awe. “Ah, so you're siblings then?”

Adrien's pale lips began to curl into a grin before it died. Instead, a frown was born.

“No, Chloé is just a friend.”

Plagg deadpanned, “I'm going to be living with you, kid. Cut the crap.”

They were the same but different.

Adrien, the more sheltered of the pair, wore his heart on his sleeve. He was obedient, always acquiescing to others’ requests. He was the model.

Chloé, they both knew, was the one who'd inherit the company. She was the tough one, exuding a cold exterior and pressing her desires. She tied her ponytail, tossed her hair, and painted a mask of makeup on her face everyday, feigning indifference.

Everyone except her brother, Adrien. The twins adored each other.

However, the public story was that Adrien was an Agreste, while Chloé pretended she was a Bourgeois. The mayor had been willing to go along with the charade… with a little financial encouragement from her father, of course. It wasn’t preferable, but it was routine.

So it was natural Chloe be the one to slip on the ring and transform when Adrien fell sick.

Origins of Chaton Gemini

Chloe’s POV

My brother’s normally glowing, slightly tanned skin flushed with a red as hot as his fever. Plagg curled on his head, eating a piece of odorless Swiss cheese. I frowned, “Adrikins, what if there’s an akuma? How can Chat Noir be there? Why didn't have your umbrella that day when you came home? You must have known Father wouldn’t give you another one.”

In his clear delirium, he moaned, “Maman, can Chloe play with the kitten?”

Plagg opened an eye. “You know, it’s not a horrible idea. No one would suspect it to be you.”

I sighed. “I’d rather not. Ladybug is absolutely incredible and I would love to work at her side, but that spot’s rightfully Adrien’s. I would feel like a replacement. You said it yourself, “I’m not your Chosen. I’m not meant for this kind of role.”

Plagg noted, "You’re right. Between you and me, you’d be better suited for Lyrra. Mainly because she'd scare you straight like no one else. But I don’t think Fu plans to release any more Miraculouses, especially to someone who would typically be a Tiger Chosen.”

My voice wavered as I cried, “What’s wrong with a Tiger?”

He snorted, “Well, Lyrra's Chosens are normally passionate, judgemental, and impulsive.”

“And what’s so wrong about that?”
“Well, for one, you might start harming akumas after awhile in pursuit of Hawk Moth. Risking civilians to test who Hawk Moth cares about.” Plagg put his paws behind his head. “Then there’d be a huge scandal, and we can’t have that.”

“So then why couldn’t I be your Chosen? Why was it Adrien?”

Plagg puffed up, “Well. My Chosens are the noblest on the block. Unfailing compassion, good teamwork, humility, these are the things a good Black Cat has.” He eyed me. “As much as I love my kittens, they’re rather boring.”

“And I don’t have those qualities?” I pouted.

Plagg fixed me with a sharp look. “Some of them. Take a better look at yourself than through a mirror, and maybe… besides, there are other pre-whatevers. Unfortunately, my guidance works with kittens who need help to instigate self-growth. Affectionate things they are. You're like me, so naturally a Guardian would be afraid to give me to you - because destruction unfettered is ruinous or some mystical Guardian stuff like that.”

A scream pierced the air. I bit my lip, hesitating. Then I asked Adrien, “Adrikins, do you mind if I grab your ring?”

He simply adjusted his position, his ring finger extended slightly. “Thank you, Adrikins.” I grabbed the ring and slid it on my own finger. I motioned to Plagg, who grabbed some Camembert and jumped into my jacket. Blasting out of the house at top speeds, I called to Nathalie, “Heading to Le Grand Paris, don’t let my Adrikins miss me!”

After rocketing out of the house, I dashed to the screams.

At the scene of the crime, the akumatized villain of the hour held her wrist out like she was giving someone her hand. A watch face flashed purple as she told Ladybug it was “Time to be treated like the child you were!”

Ladybug ducked as I bit my lip.

Feeling a tug at my pants, a small girl with dark red hair approached me. “You cawn’t be here Chwowee!”

I recognized her immediately - only Alya Cesaire would be hanging around an akuma attack with a phone decorated with a ladybug charm. “Alya! How many people has she turned?”

Alya tried to speak. “I dink it was awound tirtee.”

I paled. Dashing around a corner, Plagg floated out, “Doesn’t look like we have a choice, Tiger.” He commented.

I grabbed his piece of uneaten Camembert and tucked it away for later. “You’re right - Plagg, claws out!”

I spoke the magic words that Adrien had spoke a thousand times before.

It was nothing short of magical. The transformation thrummed in my blood like static. My sequence was nothing like Adrien’s, it was something all my own. When it released me, I immediately vaulted over the building I had hid behind despite my inclination to check out how I looked. Landing on the same rooftop on which Ladybug flipped, dodged, and weaved around the villain’s attacks, I called, “Hey! Hawk-idiot! There’s a new hero in town, and she’s going to Cataclysm your face!”

A glow went through my right hand, and I glanced it to see the dark destructive energy of Cataclysm swirling about my hand. “Oh.”

Ladybug backflipped towards me and slung her yo-yo about my waist. Summoning another yo-yo, she swung off, me in tow. We landed in the Trocadero. Snapping her yo-yos back, her eyes glinted with fury. “Who’re you? Where’s my partner?”

She stared me down.

I shrugged easily. “The boy was an idiot and got himself sick. Now he’s delirious in bed and Plagg asked me to fill in when we heard there was an akuma.” I said flatly. She quirked her brow, “Prove to me you didn’t take his Miraculous. Tell me something only Chat would know.”

I huffed, “Honestly. I’m willing to help you defeat the akuma, Bugaboo. My Lady. M’La-detective, on that one utterly ridiculous occasion you told him Gabriel Agreste of all people was Hawk Moth.”

She giggled, “He is rather ridiculous with the nicknames. Bugaboo. My Lady. Wonderbug. Miss Bug Lady. Bug. LB. Lassie. Lady Claus. Lady. My Ladybug. List goes on and on, and that’s just in this form.”

I wiggled my brows, “He’d rather you call him purr-sistent.”

“Please don’t tell me you’ve got his same inclination to puns. He would’ve had a field day with Juvenile Heart.”

“No, being in the same room with his dorky self leaves a girl hating puns. But I didn’t come out for the chitchat - I came out to help you fight the akuma. Let’s get back to the battle, shall we? The akuma’s in the watch.”

A beep cut through the air, and I glanced at my Cataclysm hand. “Right, forgot about this. Do me a favour - I’m going to detransform over there.” I slid behind the building. “Claws in.”

The magic released my blood as the transformation fell apart. Plagg, expelled from the ring, lay back in the air. “Kid, you’ve got to be careful when calling Cataclysm.”

“To be fair, this was my first time. Eat up.”

I held out the stinky cheese. “Of course!”

He swooped on it, finishing it quickly. “Alright, Plagg, we’ve got to go fight. I need my claws out!”

The transformation slid back onto my body like an old set of jeans - too tight but comforting nonetheless. Coming out, I called, “It’s go time, Ladybug.”

She grinned at me, throwing her yo-yo to hook around a street lamp. Swinging off, I followed her, Adrien’s staff vaulting me back into the battle. We came upon Juvenile Heart with a butterfly symbol over her face. I called, “Honey, I’m home!”

Her neck snapped up to catch my eye. “Oh. You.” She daintily held out her wrist. “I hope you enjoy your return to your childhood!”

The watch let out a blast, but I leapt over it to land on her face. Ladybug’s yo-yo lashed out a second after, but at that point she’d already shaken me off.  “You’re a pesky kitten.” She growled. “Maybe your parents should reteach you manners!”

I grinned lazily from my vantage point in the walls, noting Ladybug had wrapped her up with her yo-yo. “Why, thank you for thinking of my comfort, but I think I’ll pass on the in-wall bedroom, Mother.”

I sauntered up, and Juvenile Heart twisted back around, her watch face facing me. Ladybug unwrapped her yo-yo just as I pressed myself to the floor, ready to slink across and grab the watch.

It went on like that for a few hours. A normally 10-minute long fight had extended long enough. Perfect tactics only lead to confusion as we thoroughly dizzied Juvenile Heart but failed to finish the job. At last, however, the watch had been broken, the akuma purified. The ring was still charged, as were the earrings. Alya ran up to me as Ladybug finished comforting the victim. “Who are you?” She asked, her eyes gleaming.

“Well, the fabulous tiger who borrowed the mask of a mere Cat cannot tell you her name.”

Alya drooped, and I tacked on, “It doesn’t matter, anyway. I’m merely a temporary hero. The civilian Chat Noir is currently indisposed and since he cannot carry out his duties as Chat Noir, it was advised I do it for him.”

Ladybug came up to me. “Good. As fun as you were to work with, it was hard. I prefer fighting alongside my partner.”

My lips curled in amusement. “Of course, Ladybug.” Turning back to Alya, I then said, “In case I am ever needed again, you may call me Chaton Gemini.” I paused. “Good work on your blog. Chat and I follow it avidly.”

Turning back to Ladybug, I declared, “I believe we need to talk.”

She nodded. “Of course, I still have questions.”
We headed back to the Trocadero. I did not look at Ladybug when I said, “My twin is sick. He was delirious - he thought I was our mother! I heard the screams, and well… I couldn’t let you fight alone. Plagg approved it, so I assumed it was OK.”

“Thank you. I really would’ve been a goner, despite the fact we kept missing each other by a hair.”

“Plagg said that working with others would be hard for me because I tend to assert my will.”

“Chat tends to comply with my plans normally, yes. But different doesn’t mean bad, Gemini. You were a pleasure to have around. I wish you’d found me some other way, however - Gemini will be expected on occasion, even when Chat isn’t indisposed, just to keep his identity hidden.”

“I didn’t think of that.” I turned to face the girl in the mask, who now stared off into the distance, pigtails bobbing in the wind as the part of her face I could see glowed in the sunlight.

She was as beautiful as he had said in that moment, an unknown emotion painted across her face.

“You remind me of my crush.”

She turned to me fully, surprised. “Oh? How?”

“Well, she always sets her hair in the same style of yours. She’s also quite creative - she intends to be a fashion designer. She’s a leader - the class president, no less.  She also wears spots. White ones on the pink insides of her blazer, but spots nonetheless. Even though I think she hates me, she still forgives my mistakes. Just as you did now.” I ticked off her similarities to my Marinette on my hands, one gloved finger after another rising at the same rate as my blush. “But most of all, she glows. Wherever she goes, she glows. You glowed, just now.”

A blush flared on her cheeks. “I-uh-”, I smiled. “Don’t worry, I much prefer my - well, Princess is what I call her. Until next time, Lady Luck.”

This is a combination of two of my favourite headcanons: Chloé being sisterly with Adrien (in this case they're literally brother and sister) and Chloé having a crush on Marinette.

I know this will likely trigger a lot of you but I frankly do not care. I ship what I want, and I want one-sided Chlonette. Sue me.

Love you all!

Buzzing off,
