Max Kante sat hunched over his desk in his room, the glow of his computer screen illuminating his face as he typed away. His fingers moved methodically, entering data, tweaking formulas, working on his latest project. But his mind wasn't on his work. It was somewhere else, somewhere much more complicated. It was with Sabrina Raincomprix.

Max shook his head, frustrated. *Why now?* he thought. *Why is it that every time I see her, I get this... feeling?* He'd been thinking about Sabrina more and more lately. At first, it was just admiration—her intelligence, her quiet strength, the way she stuck by Chloe despite all the things Chloe put her through. But somewhere along the way, something had shifted. Max realized that it wasn't just admiration anymore. It was something deeper. Something he couldn't ignore.

He thought back to the many times he'd seen Sabrina over the past few years. In the beginning, she had always been the supportive friend of Chloe, trying to make the best of a situation that often didn't seem fair. But as time passed, Sabrina had changed. There had been the time during the school dance when she had stood up to Chloe, rejecting her manipulative ways. Max had been there, watching from the shadows, astonished at Sabrina's courage.

"I'm not your servant, Chloe," Sabrina had said firmly, her voice steady, her hands clenched in determination. "I won't do everything you tell me to anymore."

Max had watched as Sabrina walked away, her back straight and her eyes set with quiet determination. That moment had stayed with him, deep inside. He admired her courage, and it was in that moment that Max realized he was seeing her in a whole new light. No longer was she just Chloe's follower. She was a person with her own thoughts, her own strength. She was capable of so much more than anyone, including Max, had ever realized.

That had been the turning point, the first moment Max felt something more for Sabrina than just a passing admiration. He remembered that feeling even now, a faint warmth in his chest when he thought about how brave she had been. The way she had defied Chloe, her old friend, someone she had always tried to please. Max had never told Sabrina what he thought of her that day, but he had thought it over countless times since. What if she had known? What if she had known how deeply he admired her for it? He wasn't sure, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized that Sabrina was someone special to him.

The feeling didn't stop there. It had grown over time, like a small seed that had been planted in his heart and was now growing into something bigger. Max found himself thinking about Sabrina when she wasn't around, recalling the way her hair shimmered in the light or how her voice softened when she spoke. It was frustrating and confusing all at once. He didn't know what to do with these feelings. They made his stomach turn, but they also made him feel light, like he was walking on air. He couldn't tell if it was love or just infatuation, but he knew one thing for sure: he couldn't ignore it anymore.

As Max sat in his room, lost in thought, he didn't notice his phone buzzing until a loud beep from his robot, Markov, caught his attention.

"Max, your phone has a message," Markov said in his calm, mechanical voice.

Max blinked, focusing on his phone screen. The message was from Kim.

**Hey Max, I am coming over. We need to talk.**

Max sighed, rubbing his temples. What could they want to talk about? But he didn't have time to dwell on it. He quickly typed back a response.

**Sure, come over.**

Moments later, the door to his room swung open, and Kim barged in, a mischievous grin plastered across his face. Kim had always been the energetic, carefree type, and it was rare to see him looking serious. But today, he had an amused yet knowing look in his eyes.

"Alright, Max," Kim said, crossing his arms with a knowing smirk. "We need to talk. You've been acting... well, weird."

Max froze. 'Weird?' He thought 'What did Kim mean by that?'

"What do you mean?"

Kim raised an eyebrow. "You've been all lovesick lately. Every time Sabrina's around, you get all nervous, and we've caught you staring at her more than once."

Max's heart skipped a beat. "What? No, I'm not—"

Markov beeped in agreement, his voice calm as always. "Affirmative. Max has been exhibiting classic signs of romantic attachment."

Max's face immediately flushed crimson. "I'm not lovesick!" he stammered, suddenly very aware of how nervous he was feeling.

Kim leaned back in his chair with a satisfied look. "Yeah, sure. We've been watching you. Every time Sabrina's nearby, your attention is completely on her. It's obvious."

Max wanted to argue, to deny it, but deep down, he knew they were right. Sabrina had been occupying his thoughts for weeks now, and it was getting harder to ignore. But the idea of confessing his feelings to her—of risking their friendship—was terrifying.

"I can't help it," Max muttered, running a hand through his hair. "I like her, okay? But I don't know if she feels the same way. I don't want to ruin things between us, we just became friends."

Kim gave him a pointed look. "Dude, you've got to stop overthinking it. Sabrina is not some delicate flower. You've seen how she's stood up to Chloe, right? If she can be brave enough to do that, you can be brave enough to tell her how you feel."

Max sighed, feeling the weight of his thoughts pressing down on him. "But what if she doesn't feel the same way? What if it messes up our friendship?"

Markov, ever the logical one, beeped once more. "Max, you will never know unless you take the chance. Sabrina's bravery shows that she values honesty. You should do the same."

Max chuckled despite himself. "Thanks, Markov. You're always so blunt about it."

Kim grinned. "You've got to be brave, man. Look, I'm no expert on relationships, but I do know one thing: you'll never know unless you try. So stop being a coward and go for it."

Max gave Kim a pointed look. "Since when did you become so wise, Kim? You're starting to sound like a relationship expert."

Kim shrugged nonchalantly, his grin never leaving his face but his eyes softened as if thinking about something or someone... "What can I say? I'm just a natural. Now go and tell her."

Max looked between his friends, feeling more determined than before. "Alright, I'll do it. I'll tell her."

Kim slapped him on the back. "That's the spirit! Now go, before you chicken out again."

Max took a deep breath, his heart pounding. He didn't know what would happen, but he knew one thing: he couldn't keep running from his feelings. He had to be honest with Sabrina, even if it terrified him.

~~~~~
The next day at school, Max found Sabrina sitting alone on a bench near the courtyard, absorbed in a book. She looked up when she saw him approaching, and her face lit up with a warm smile. Max felt his heart skip a beat. She looked so calm and composed, yet he knew there was a fire inside her—a strength that he admired so much.
"Hey, Sabrina," Max said, trying to sound casual despite the nerves in his voice.
Sabrina closed her book and smiled. "Hey, Max. What's up?"
Max hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. "I've been thinking about something for a while now... about you. And I just wanted to tell you that I really admire you. I admire your strength, your courage. You've always been there for people, even when they don't deserve it. But what really stood out to me was how you stood up to Chloe. That took so much courage, and I just wanted to say that I think you're amazing."
Sabrina blinked, looking surprised, but there was a soft warmth in her eyes. "You... you really think that?"
Max nodded, feeling his heart race. "Yeah. I do. And, well, I think I've liked you for a while now. More than just as a friend."
Sabrina's eyes widened, and Max's stomach twisted in anxiety. Had he said too much? Had he ruined everything?
But then, Sabrina smiled. It wasn't a nervous smile, or a polite smile. It was genuine, and it made Max's heart leap. "I think... I think I like you too, Max," she said, her voice soft but sure.
Max let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. "You do?" he asked, still trying to process it.
Sabrina nodded, her smile widening. "Yeah, I do."
Max felt a flood of relief wash over him. He couldn't believe it. Sabrina liked him too. He had been so afraid of ruining their friendship, but now it felt like everything had fallen into place.
"Well, I'm glad I told you," Max said, grinning from ear to ear.
Sabrina laughed softly. "I'm glad you did too."
They sat together for a while longer, talking about everything and nothing at all. Max felt a sense of contentment that he had never felt before. Finally, he had told Sabrina how he felt—and she felt the same.
As the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, Max walked with Sabrina to class, his heart still racing with excitement. He couldn't wait to see where this new chapter would take them. And for the first time in a long time, he felt like everything was going to be okay.
Later that afternoon, when Max met up with Kim and Markov, he couldn't wipe the grin off his face.
"So?" Kim asked, his grin widening as soon as he saw Max's expression. "How'd it go?"
Max let out a breathless laugh. "It went great. She likes me too."
Kim raised his eyebrows. "Told you so."
Max smirked. "Yeah, yeah, you were right. I guess you really 'are' a love expert."
Kim just laughed, patting Max on the back. "I'm always right, man."
Max smiled, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. It wasn't just that Sabrina liked him—it was the fact that he had been honest with her. And now, as they walked side by side toward their next class, Max knew that the future was looking brighter than ever.
