15) Lucҝψ Chɑrмʂ
Everything started with a fully refreshed Marinette stretching her arms. She yawned and took in the warm sunlight shining through her window.
"Wow, I feel fantastic," she stated. She noticed the time on her alarm clock. "Tikki, look! I'm up twenty minutes early!" The kwami gave her a sleepy smile as she watched her holder jump out of bed and get dressed. Marinette made sure to fasten the lucky charm bracelet around her wrist that Adrien had made for her birthday recently.
She beamed at the colorful charm then made her way downstairs. "You're up awfully early," Sabine spoke from her spot by the stove. "I made pancakes this morning. For once you will have time to eat at home."
Marinette took her time eating her breakfast, then grabbed her backpack. She walked toward the entrance to the bakery, but her mom stopped her. "Your father baked a dozen pastries too many. Would you like some to go?" She offered, holding out a neatly packed box. Marinette smiled and accepted them.
"Of course, maman." After thanking her, she rushed out the front door and paced down the sidewalk. "Marinette, it's rather early, there's no need to hurry," Tikki said from her purse. Marinette laughed a little and slowed down. "I guess I'm just so used to being late. It feels nice having all the time in the world, for a change."
.............
Unlike Marinette, a certain someone was having a rough morning. Adrien woke up five minutes before he was expected to leave for school, thanks to a late night fight with another akuma known as Showstopper. While running around his room to gather his supplies, he scolded Plagg for not bothering to wake him.
"What am I? An alarm clock? I'm not one of your personal slaves," he complained.
Adrien didn't have time to argue and soon there was knocking while he quickly styled his hair. "Adrien? Is everything alright? We must leave in one minute," Natalie called through the door.
"Um, just a second!"
All seemed well until his usual ride was cut short due to the engine sputtering. After some hasty convincing, he had persuaded Natalie to let him walk the last block to school.
Adrien panted heavily as he sprinted up the stairs to the building. Everyone was already in class, so the area was vacant. "Hey, garbage man, where's my cheese?"A muffled voice fretted from his bag.
"Not now, Plagg, I'm going to miss the bell!"
"But I haven't eaten all morning!"
Adrien glowered down at his bag, but missed the top step and tripped while doing so. He winced at the skinned flesh on his hand before getting to his feet. He took a few more steps through the front doors until he heard a loud sound of fabric ripping.
Adrien gasped as all of his books, binders, and kwami spilled through the bottom of his bag onto the floor. "Ow!" Plagg snapped. Adrien threw his hands up to his head in exasperation. "Just my luck," he muttered.
.............
"Adrien's still not here," Marinette fretted in her usual seat. She felt a sudden pinch in her arm. "Ow!" She cried. "What was that for, Alya?"
Her best friend smirked. "You're not wearing green. It's St. Patricks Day," she informed, gesturing to her own light green shirt.
"Yes, I am!" Marinette replied, then proudly showed off the charm bracelet Adrien had made for her. A few of the beads were green. The very sight of it made her smile brightly. "My bad," Alya apologized.
"Cool bracelet," Léa complimented. "Where'd you get it?" Marinette giggled at her question and fiddled with the piece of jewelry. "Oh, this? Adrien handmade it just for me on my birthday," she sighed in a daze.
"As if, Maritrash," Chloe scoffed, who had just overheard their conversation. "By the way, did you do something different? You're hair is disgusting."
"Good, I was trying to look like you today."
Marinette's quip shut her up, and it left Alya and Léa agape as well. Chloe rolled her eyes. "Whatever," she finally retorted, placing her hands on her hips. "Keep rolling your eyes," Marinette yawned. "Maybe you'll find a brain back there."
The angry blonde huffed and stomped back to her seat as the three busted out into laughter. Marinette held up her hands and they all high fived.
A tall woman suddenly marched into the classroom and slapped her things onto the desk. "Where's Madam Bustier?" Rose asked. The sub gave the class a menacing stare. "She fell ill. I am Madam Secousse, and I am filling in for her. Get on my nerves and you're going to the principal's office," she snapped. "Here's your geometry test." She went from desk to desk and tossed out the tests. The bell had let out one final ring.
Marinette carefully hid the warm box of pastries under her seat. She wasn't sure if the substitute would tolerate food. She raised her hand. "What?" Madam Secousse answered. "Madam, may I use the restroom?" She politely asked.
"Go ahead."
Once Marinette had left, Chloe raised her hand. "Madam Secousse, can I-"
"No."
Marinette happily hummed to herself as she waltzed through the halls. Today was going so well. If only Adrien were here.... Just then, she turned around a corner and found her crush frantically grabbing his things from the floor. She immediately rushed over and knelt by his side.
"What happened? Are you okay?" She asked, automatically assisting him pick up his scattered papers. OMG, I didn't stutter!!
Adrien sighed and held up his torn bag without a word. "Bad day?" He nodded. She handed a neatly stacked set of papers to him. Her heart fluttered at his sweet smile. "Thanks, I appreciate it," he said. When he accepted the worksheets from her, their fingers made the slightest bit of contact.
The two instantly turned away from each other flustered. Marinette was the first to recover. "Uh, I'll walk you back to class," she insisted.
"Oh, that's not necessary, I don't want to make you more late!"
She chuckled and shrugged. "I'm not the one that's late. Besides, I'm on a bathroom break and you have quite a few things to carry there," she responded. Marinette helped the blonde from the floor, then took his physics and chemistry books. Adrien turned to throw away his bag in a nearby waste bin.
"Wait! I can fix that for you!" Marinette blurted. Adrien retrieved his hand from the garbage can and studied the huge hole in his messenger bag. "That is, if you want me to," she added.
"Really? You would do that?" He asked as his face brightened. Ohhh, that adorable face- I could just hug him to death right now! Marinette swatted her hand.
"Pfft! Oh, sure. I'll make it as good as new, that is nothing! Stop by my house after school and I'll have it repaired in a jiffy!" She assured.
Holy muffins, I am on a roll.
"That sounds perfect! I can't thank you enough!" He thanked. "You're welcome!" He smiled at her gratefully before the two began to walk back to class. "So, ready for that geometry test?" Marinette inquired. Adrien gasped. He had totally forgotten. Hopefully he could stay awake through the whole thing.
"Today already?" He groaned. His hand ran through his soft blonde locks of hair. They had finally approached the door to class. "Don't worry, I brought a little special something that should cheer you right up," she briefed with a cheerful grin. Adrien couldn't help but smile at her positive attitude. It seemed so contagious. Especially today, for some odd reason.
The substitute had marked Adrien tardy, of course, but she paid no mind to Marinette. Adrien sulked at his desk glumly for what seemed like hours. Nino was absent that day, so he didn't really have anyone to keep him company.
About halfway through the test, Marinette stole a glance at the sub. Madam Secrousse had her feet on the desk and was playing on her phone. Marinette quietly opened her box of pastries on her lap. She slipped a blueberry muffin to Léa, and a cheesecake danish to Alya.
Adrien tapped his pencil to his chin in boredom, until he perked at the smell of freshly baked goods wafting through the air. He spun around when he felt tapping on his shoulder to see Marinette holding out a cinnamon roll. She smiled sweetly and nodded to it. He reflected her grin and accepted, mouthing the words thank you.
It was still quite warm, but just before it reached his mouth, a shrill voice broke the silence. "Teacher! Teacher! Marinette is sneaking out desserts! During a test!" Chloe tattled. Adrien sighed and set the cinnamon roll down.
The substitute shot her a nasty glare. She looked at Marinette and her friends, who were smiling sheepishly with puffy chipmunk cheeks bulging from their mouths full of dessert. "That's it!" Madam snapped. Chloe smiled smugly. "Go to the office!"
Chloe's smile faded. "W-what?"
"You heard me! You've been running your mouth forever and you're getting on my nerves! I could care less if they stuff their faces with every donut in Paris, at least they're quiet! Now get out before I shove a croissant down your throat and make you shut up myself!"
Chloe's face went red as stifled laughs escaped from around the room. Apparently Adrien wasn't the only having a cruddy day.
"Make me, I am the mayor's daughter! I will have the school fire you!" She shot back as she stood to her feet. The substitute yawned and opened a magazine.
"Don't even pull that card on me, I could care less. I. Am. A. Substitute. I didn't even sign up for this so go cry to whoever you want. In the mean time, can you just leave already? I've been waiting all week to check my horoscope."
Chloe was fuming and looked like she would explode. She squeezed her fists until her knuckles turned white then stomped over to the door. Chloe narrowed her eyes at Madam Secousse.
"My father will hear about this!" She yelled.
"Don't let the door hit you on the way out," Marinette called with a mouthful of donut. Chloe slammed the door with a bang, causing the entire class to jump. The substitute resumed reading her magazine like nothing happened.
Adrien eyed the glazed cinnamon roll before him. He carefully brought the treat to his lips and took in the delicious scent. He opened his mouth to take a bite when-
The wall to his right suddenly exploded as the front of a bus smashed through. Screams came from around the room as chunks of brick flew about. The model tensed and held the pastry to his chest dearly.
Well, that was fast. Just when I thought this day couldn't get any worse.
Marinette gasped and clutched her purse.
"Oh, Marineeeeette," a distasteful voice sang. The young designer groaned at the sound. "Seriously, Chloe?" The blonde girl strutted through the hole in the building in a tight costume of all black. Four inch-heeled boots went up to her thighs and gloves extended above her elbows. She held a resemblance to cat woman, only without the cat ears.
"It's Miss Fortune now," Chloe spat. "If I can't have a single ounce of good luck, no one can!" To prove her point, she held out a hand and struck Alya with a sort of dark looking magic. She immediately started to sneeze and her nose was running. "I think I'm catching the flu," she coughed.
Half of the class had already escaped, while the rest were still running around panicking like idiots. Marinette felt guilty for leaving her friend behind, but she had to transform. Meanwhile, Adrien was hidden in the nearest janitor's closet trying to convince his stubborn kwami to eat.
"It's no Camembert, Plagg, but it's all I got! It's just a cinnamon roll!" Adrien whisper-shouted. Plagg pouted and turned his nose away, but his stomach rumbled loudly. "I know you're starving and I have to transform. Stop being so picky!"
"No. If it's not cheesier than your lame puns, I won't eat it!"
The holder glared at his kwami. "Plagg, I'm about three hundred percent done with your crap right now, so listen up. You better eat this or I will make sure you'll go a lot longer without your precious Camembert," he hissed. Plagg gulped. He hasn't seen his master so serious with a threat like this yet.
"Okay, fine," he grumbled. The kwami broke off a chunk of the dessert and sniffed it. Without a word, he turned away and devoured the entire piece in seconds. "Kay, ya happy?"
"Plagg, claws out!"
................
Chloe moved fast. Within minutes, she was downtown striking every citizen with her dark charms, bringing everyone rotten luck. In no time, Ladybug and Chat Noir simultaneously dropped onto a building where the akuma hadn't yet noticed them.
Ladybug was posed in a heroic stance while Chat...not so much. He lost his footing and unceremoniously landed on his face. His partner offered him a hand, which he gratefully accepted. Chat grumbled under is his breath as he dusted himself off.
He was clearly not in the best mood. "Bad day?" Ladybug asked. "You could say that," he sighed. "This whole black cat thing is really to my disadvantage today." She rolled her eyes. "I never pegged you for the superstitious type, Chat."
"I'm not superstitious, but I'm a little-stitious," he clarified. The tomcat earned himself another eye roll from the super heroine. "But maybe a kiss for good luck from my lady will suffice," Chat suggested with a waggle of his eyebrows. "Nice try, kitty, but we got work to do."
Below them, Chloe cornered a helpless girl in a pretty dress. "For your information, it's illegal to be better looking than me!" She declared, ready to strike the innocent bystander.
Two pairs of feet landed behind Miss Fortune, making her switch targets. "Well, dang, I guess it looks like we're all going to jail," Chat mused as he suavely smoothed his messy hair. Chloe's icy blue eyes widened at the offense. "Have you no manners for a lady?" She snarked.
"For a lady, yes. For you? No."
Chloe extended her arms in a position to attack. Black wisps of smoke and sparkles emitted from her palms, ready for fire. "You think I'm not ladylike?" Chloe seethed, stepping towards Chat. "I can show you that just as well!"
Chat Noir made way for Ladybug with a respectful bow. "Ladies first," he told her. Ladybug nodded and strode toward her blonde opponent. "I believe this is our third face off," she noted. Miss Fortune cackled. "Well, you know what they say; third time is the charm!" She hollered before firing a black ball of dark charms.
Ladybug was fast to dodge it was a backflip. Chloe continued to throw more curses at her, but with no luck. Ladybug kept dodging. "What are you waiting for, Ladybug?! Make your move!" Chloe demanded. Ladybug smirked and tossed her pigtails.
"Ladies don't start fights, but they can finish them," she stated, then slung out her yoyo around Chloe's wrist when Chat swept his staff under her feet from behind. She fell with a hard thud on the concrete. "You shouldn't of done that," she laughed. Chloe grasped the yoyo secured around her arms, letting the evil energy sink into it.
After she freed herself with ease, she caught Chat off guard and hit him with her powers. Ladybug gaped, but it was too late. As fast as lightning, the bad luck traveled up the string of her yoyo and was absorbed within her. Chloe evilly grinned and attacked Chat.
While the two opponents masked in black fought, Ladybug called for her famous lucky charm. A piece of paper floated down, but the wind almost blew it away from her touch. She snatched it and studied it close.
"A grocery coupon?" She read aloud.
"M'lady!" Her partner cried. She spun around and looked at the scene before her and gawked. Chloe had her heeled boot pressed down on the poor kitty's chest, and pointed the end his staff to his neck. She was about to steal his miraculous.
Once she barely managed to rescue him, she swung them both to a safe distance away until they landed in front of a supermarket. Chat raised an eyebrow at her. "Now's not really the time to go shopping, but-" Ladybug silently held up the coupon as she entered the store with Chat trailing close behind.
"Wait...I know exactly what we need, buginette!" Chat grabbed her hand and raced through different aisles. It was no shock at all that onlooking shoppers were bewildered to see the heroes of Paris browsing the cereal section during an akuma attack.
Chat carefully skimmed through their various selections until his face brightened. "Ah-ha!" He exclaimed. "Purrfect!" He proudly presented the box to Ladybug. She flashed him an unreadable expression.
"Is this a joke? Chat, what are we supposed to do with a box of Lucky Charms?"
"Isn't it obvious?"
"What, am I supposed to pelt Chloe with marshmallow charms? Throw the entire box at her?"
He only laughed at her assumptions. "Think inside the box, m'lady. We eat it and get our good luck back! We can achieve almost nothing after we got struck by her. You saw what her powers did to us! Can you think of a more effective food product?" Ladybug heavily sighed. "Fine. But only because we're in a desperate situation," she relented. Chat was about to break the seal, but she stopped him.
"Chat! We didn't pay for that yet!" She hissed, eyeing their surroundings to make sure no one saw. He realized his mistake and smiled sheepishly. "Whoops." The cashier was puzzled at the red and black polka dotted coupon, but nevertheless, it rang up. "Wait, can you scan this too, please?" Chat requested, handing the worker a green T shirt.
"Chat, what is that?" Ladybug asked in a suspicious tone. "What?" He asked innocently. "It's green! This black cat can afford to have a little more luck." After everything was scanned, the clerk read out their charge. "Alright, that will be....0 Francs? What kind of coupon was that?" The woman questioned.
"One of a kind, nice meeting you, and we gotta go!" Ladybug said hastily before they gathered their things and rushed out of the supermarket. Chat Noir slipped on his new shirt, which read:
ƘIᔕᔕ ⱮƐ
ι'м noт ιrιѕн,
but I am ᖴཞƐŊƇН.
He tore open the cereal with his claw and ripped the bag open. He smelled it curiously, then put a small marshmallow piece in his mouth. His eyes grew insanely big at the flavor. "Wow, this tastes amazing!" Chat raved as he stuffed more handfuls of it into his mouth.
Ladybug couldn't help but laugh at his adorable actions. His cute, green cat eyes were wide with wonder and his cheeks were puffed out like a chipmunk's as he happily indulged the sugary cereal. Do they feed him at home? Her eyes wandered down to the words on his childish shirt, which she had just noticed.
Chat kept munching on his treat until he felt a soft kiss planted on his cheek. He almost gasped and froze in place. His gaze slowly traveled over to Ladybug on his side as red noticeably spread across his face. He swallowed hard. Chat stared at the box of Lucky Charms in disbelief. "Oh my god, they really do work," he whispered in awe.
He started to frantically shove bigger fistfuls into his mouth, making his partner chuckle as she reached into the box, grabbing a few charms for herself. "I'm going to eat these every single day," Chat swore with a mouthful. Ladybug shook her head and ruffled her silly partner's hair. What was she ever going to do with him?
Luckily, Chat Noir was right. The Lucky Charms cereal brought them an insane amount of good fortune, countering Chloe's akumatized curses. They restored everyone's good luck, including Adrien's, and from that day on, he snuck Lucky Charms into his home as often as he could.
Hey, guys, I ran outta time, so it took me until just before midnight on St. Patty's day to post this, but I had a lot of work to do so I just winged it and made it longer with some Adrienette since I haven't had much of that going on lately.
Sorry it was so long but I felt bad for taking a while so that's that. Plse comment and vote, tell me what you thought because I need opinions.
Actually, it'd be a big help if you told me what your fav part in this book was so far & I will try to make the future parts to come close to that as much as possible. Hope you liked! 😄
