Ladybug took a good look around. The rooftop was once a beautiful garden, but it was now killed by layers of snow and frost. The snow monster gave them a nasty roar and swung out his arm at them.
Her and Chat Noir barely ducked in time. "It's no use," he panted. "There's no way we can take it down by force. We're in quite the purrdicament."
"Lucky charm!"
After she shot her yoyo into the air, a pile of rope dropped into her hands.
Ladybug glanced at the edge of the tower. She had gotten another crazy idea. "Then we jump."
"For once I agree," he said as he dodged another hit from the beast. She furrowed her eyebrows. "What do you mean for once?" She frowned. The oversized snowman slammed its fists into the concrete, causing the duo to stumble from the impact. Chat took her hand and dashed over to edge of the skyscraper.
Before he could do anything rash, she grabbed his arm and held him back. "Whoa, stop!" She gasped. Just when Chat was about to pounce over the railing, he obeyed. His eyes enlarged at the drop in front of him. "It's a hundred foot drop!" He squeaked.
"It's two hundred," she corrected. "And since when were you scared of heights?"
"Pfft! I'm not scared. Don't you know that cats always land on their feet?" Chat vaunted. The beast started to tread closer. His spunk dissipated. "We're trapped!"
"I have a plan," Ladybug assured. She quickly fastened the end of the rope to the bars of the railing. "Mind showing me the ropes?" He pressed.
"We're going to climb down."
"What if we fall?"
"There's twenty feet of fresh powered snow down there; it'll be like landing on a pillow," she explained. "...hopefully."
"What was that?" Chat asked, not quite hearing what she added. A pot of frozen flowers shattered at their feet. They moved their focus back to their pursuer. They were now being pelted with clay and ceramic pots. Ladybug ducked as a birdbath sailed over her head. She tightened her grip on the rope. "Okay, Chat. On three." The beast let out another roar much closer.
"Okay, you tell me when," he said with newfound confidence. He flexed his fingers around the rope. "One..." "I'm ready to go," he proclaimed as he kicked his knees up. "Two..."
"I was BORN ready! Yes!!" He hollered, now on the verge of a nervous breakdown. "Calm down," Ladybug instructed. Suddenly, a big magnolia tree flew out at them.
"TREE!" Chat screamed as he leapt off the skyscraper. She whipped her head around only to find that Chat latched onto her arm and took her down with him. "CHAT WHAT THE-" The superheroes plummeted down for about thirty feet until the rope tugged firmly in place.
The ground was still a long way down as they dangled in the air. "Well, this is snow fun," Chat Noir sulked. Ladybug narrowed her eyes at him. "Climb. And hurry," she ordered.
They silently climbed down for about twenty feet, until Chat's face instantly brightened at a thought. "Why the cold shoulder, m'lady? At least we get to hang out," he joked with a silly grin. Ladybug looked up at his goofy face. She rolled her eyes at him and continued to work her way down. "Chillax, I'm just trying to break the ice. What's bugging you?" He asked.
Ladybug sighed. "Chat, I'm really not in the mood-" she stopped. Even though they were climbing down, it seemed like the ground was becoming smaller and smaller. "Why are we getting higher?" She wondered. They simultaneously tilted their heads up to the sky and found two icy, bulky hands over the edge carefully reeling in the other end of the rope.
"You've gotta be kitten me right now," Chat groaned. His eyes grew big when Ladybug grabbed his hand. Butterflies came to life in his stomach and his heartbeat pounded like a sledgehammer. Usually, she would grab his wrist. C'mon, cool it, she's just holding your hand. Get your act together!
"S-so, what now, m-m'lady?" He stammered. Chat gazed down into her fierce, bluebell eyes and awaited her command. "Let it go," she said. "W-what?" He asked, not sure if he heard her right.
"The rope--let it go."
"Well, that was one waste of a lucky charm if it was only going to lead us to our deaths-" Ladybug cut him off as she unleashed her yoyo as swung it tightly around the rope. "M'lady, please don't," he pleaded. "Please don't-" she ignored him and tugged on it hard. The wire sliced it in two.
Five seconds later, they crashed into a massive snow drift. Chat sat up and furiously shook more snow out of his hair. "Hey, you were right. Just like a pillow," he said as he dusted himself off. "We totally lost marshmallow back there." He reached forward to stretch and dipped his hands into the snow to touch his toes. Chat gasped and shook a pair of feet.
"I can't feel my legs!" He panicked. "I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS!" He tried to grab further up.
Ladybug popped up out of the snow behind him and shrieked. "Those are my legs!" She snapped. Chat Noir's face grew as red as a tomato. He gulped and immediately retrieved his hands from what turned out to be her lower thighs. "I-I'm so sorry," he meekly apologized. Chat slowly inhaled, then rolled himself off of her.
He offered a hand to help her up, but to his dismay, she rejected it and stood up herself. As he awkwardly turned away, she caught a slight look of hurt on his face. Ladybug felt a sudden piece of guilt grow inside her.
What am I doing? He's been trying to cheer me up all day, and here I am being a total jerk to him just because of something I overheard.
"It's okay, Chat. It was an accident," she exhaled. "Forget it happened. We have an akuma to catch."
...........
They trudged through the snowy streets looking for sounds of helpless cries or chaos. They found the opposite. People dressed warmly, but they sure didn't act that way. Everyone they passed had a glazed, grey look over their eyes and their faces remained blank. Their skin had seemed to turn pale and they spoke with almost no tone at all.
"What's wrong with them?" Chat asked. "It's like they're heartless or something."
"They've all been stricken by her," Ladybug noted. "At least they seem fine for now, but we have to hurry." On their way, they passed a flower shop, but all the plants displayed outside were iced. Chat sadly ran his finger along some frosted roses.
"Oh, my gosh."
Chat lifted his head to see Ladybug gaping at an ice palace surrounding the Eiffel tower. Her eyes were wide with wonder as she stared in astonishment. Her pink lips were slightly parted. He watched the soft wisps of her breath vanish into the chilly air.
"It's so beautiful," she awed.
"Yeah."
Ladybug turned her attention to him. Chat had his head cocked to the side a little as he fixed his eyes onto her blue ones. Something seemed different about him to her. He looked so peaceful in that moment.
Why is he looking at me like that?
She studied his green cat eyes, which she had always secretly liked best about him. They appeared to be dazed, until Chat blinked a few times. He cleared his throat and suddenly took in the view before them. "Wow. That is one big castle," he awkwardly stated. He crossed his arms. "Yep," she agreed and crossed her arms as well. "It's pretty big."
They stood there in brief silence.
"Y-you know, I can't help but notice how shiny it is. It's really gleamy and...shiny," he described before scratching the back of his head. More silence. "You wanna take a look inside?" Ladybug suggested.
"Ladies first," Chat said while conducting a bow, then flashed her a charming smile. She nodded and entered the palace.
The two set off to find Lila, who they hoped was somewhere inside. A gorgeous staircase awaited them. Ladybug took a few steps up, but slipped backwards. Luckily, Chat Noir caught her.
"Allow me, m'lady."
Chat only made it up the first five steps before stumbling to his knees. He attempted to stand back up, but his tight leather suit made him slide back down the stairs like butter. He opened his mouth, but every step that hit his back made his voice falter.
"Ow-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh!"
Ladybug covered her mouth and tried to hold back a giggle. Chat jumped to his feet and observed the stairs in determination. This time he sprinted as fast as he could and gotten one step further, but he ran in place getting nowhere.
"Chat, stop messing around before you hurt yourself!" Ladybug scolded. He helplessly thrashed his arms around before wrapping them around the polished railing. His body glided back down until he smacked the floor.
"Okay, now who would make a set of stairs out of ice? That just doesn't seem smart," he muttered from the ground.
"Well, we're not going to get anywhere that way, are we?" She asked with a playful smirk. Chat turned to her and couldn't help but smile at the look on her face. Even though he got mildly hurt in the process, it was worth turning her frown upside down. The teammates ending up using her yoyo to swing to the top of the staircase, and within time, the two had made their way to the highest tower.
Lila had spun around on her heel when she heard footsteps behind her. Chat Noir and Ladybug were in their usual fighting positions with their weapons ready. She immediately shot out icicle daggers at them.
Ladybug easily deflected them with her yoyo spinning into a shield. Chat did the same with his baton. The duo split up and came at her on each side. Chat did the usual, trying to distract the akuma. "Two against one? Well, well, aren't you on thin ice?" He taunted, inching closer while hitting away flying ice. Ladybug was creeping behind her, and Lila seemed unaware.
Just as Ladybug reached for Lila's crystal bracelet, she wildly flew around and jammed an empty hand to her unprotected chest. Ladybug collapsed to her knees and cried in agony as killer frost seeped inside her core.
"Noooooo!" Chat yelled, throwing out a hand. She struggled to move. The icy strike began nipping and gnawing at her flesh, but it gradually began to fade.
"What?!" Lila snarled. "Why isn't it working?" Ladybug clutched her chest in pain and squeezed her eyes shut. Then it dawned on her. Lila arched an eyebrow at her victim.
"Your heart is too pure. All your kindness and heroic qualities are blocking the effects," she spat. "But wait, I sense something else! I feel a potential heartbreak. Someone has hurt you. But I know what that feels like, you see?" Lila sympathized.
"Heartbreak isn't just an emotion. It's a decision. Don't fight it, Ladybug. Let it consume you. I can only cure you of it if you surrender to me," she sweetly persuaded.
"Don't listen to her!" Chat shouted. "Don't give in, Ladybug!"
"Ignore him. What have guys ever done for girls like us anyway? They try so hard to win our hearts only to throw them away at the end of the day. I can take away the pain, but only if you accept the cold reality."
"Never. I will never surrender to you!" She established. Ladybug was now back on her feet bravely confronting her opponent. Lila gritted her teeth. "If that's how you'll play then," she quietly uttered. Chat Noir gasped when he noticed the clenched fist behind her back.
"Look out!"
Lila swiftly swung out her arm, and the next thing Ladybug knew, she was shoved to the floor. Her jaw dropped and her eyes grew big in terror. Chat Noir clenched his teeth as a sharp, frigid blow struck him in the chest. Ladybug watched him fly back with horror. The impact shot him onto a balcony and his body skidded and smashed right through the ice railing on the edge.
"CHAT!" She screamed.
Chat Noir quickly swiped at the icy edge to keep himself from going over, but it was still super slippery. Just before he could plummet to his demise, he slammed his hand down and dug his claws into the ice flooring. Ladybug's earrings were beeping, but that didn't stop her from bolting to his side.
"This'll make it more interesting," Lila sneered and extended her hand. The chilly wind furiously blew Chat's blonde hair around as he nervously peered down. It was a long drop and spiked, needlelike icicles started growing from the ground that awaited him.
"I'll see you at the bottom when you're shish kebobs," Lila waved then exited out the doorway.
Ladybug tightly gripped his one hand on the ledge. "Chat, give me your other hand!" He tried to swing himself up, but doing so made his claws scrape through the ice, pulling him further away from her. Seeing it as a fail, she tried to think of something else.
"Just-just hold on, I got you!" Her voice wavered. Ladybug grabbed hold of the arm that was keeping him there. "I'll pull you up!"
"It's okay, bugaboo," he comforted.
"No, it's NOT okay! You're hanging for your life! I'm the one who should be, not you! Why did you do that, you stupid cat?!" She reprimanded, tears starting to seep out of her eyes.
His claws scraped a few inches closer to the drop off, despite him digging them deeper into the ice. How is he so calm?? "I'd do anything for my lady," Chat said looking up at her with his big, green kitten eyes. He's looking at me like that again...
"B-but....mon chaton, you're going fall," she sniffed, still gripping onto his wrist. He gave her a small, reassuring smile.
"Some people are worth falling for."
Aha sorry I left ya 'hanging' again. Welp that's all for part 2 hope you liked:p Part 3 (final) coming soon!
