The Bargain Part 1 by Summer Cheng@SummerCheng37
Description:
The man and his wife saw a bin at a sale. The sign read, "Come one, all, Bargain deals."
The man and the lady gasped when they looked closer and saw a small child inside it. It was a baby girl with dark hair that was blue as the ocean seas, bluebell eyes, and light pink tinted cheeks. The girl was Asian and she appeared to be around two years old. She held a spotted blanket in her hand and her thumb was in her mouth. How could someone do this to a child they thought?
"Tom, do something," Sabine said. Tom picked up the little one who held on tighter to her blanket. Sabine smiled. She took the girl from him as he looked around for someone to help them.
No one was around, so they called the police. "If no one claims they have a missing child who meets the description you gave us by this hour next Wednesday, she will be yours," the officer said.
Sabine's POV:
I could not believe it. It has been almost a week since we found her. The police said it was nearly time for us to make a huge decision that could impact us for life.
"Tom, come here, dear!" I shouted. Tom came running, "What is it? Is she okay?" Tom asked.
"Yes, Marinette is fine, dear," I said. "Marinette?" Tom asked. "Yes, it was the name I found attached to the bottom of the blanket she always has with her," I explained.
"Oh, then, what did you want me for?" Tom asked. I sighed. "Sit down." Tom did as I told him. I explained what the officer had told me on the phone that day. Tom listened and smiled. "I see no need to think about it anymore dear," Tom answered. I smiled and hugged him.
Marinette removed the thumb from her mouth and clapped her hands. She looked at us both as if she somehow knew we loved her.
Time skip!
Three years later, Marinette was running in the house towards her father. She smiled at him. "Marinette, what have I told you about running in the house?" Tom scolded her. "Sorry, Dad," Marinette said. Tom hugged her. I saw the entire thing between them as I folded the laundry. I smiled. I knew it was the best decision the day we brought her home from that Bargain bin.
At supper that night, Marinette looked serious. "What is the matter?" I asked. "Mom, Dad, the others say I am not yours, but I am yours," She blurted out. "Yes, you are our daughter," I said.
I had not told her the history of how we found her. I felt it would be much too painful to share with her. I had made sure the tag was thrown out. She still had the blanket- which had been washed more times than I could count.
"Chole Bougerious, calls me trash," Marinette said with a frown. I sobbed. Tom did the same. We never thought it would come to this. "Chole is wrong, she is a rude child," Tom explained. "Yes, Chole lacks manners," I added.
The next day, Marinette cried as she left the house. She had her lunch box and backpack with her. I watched as she climbed aboard the bus- which pulled out front as usual- and sat down. I saw her pout. I felt guilty I had made her go when it was obvious- something troubled her.
Two days later, Marinette got ready early. She hugged us before she left. As she got on the bus this time, she did not pout but waved to us. I noticed this time some blonde-haired, green-eyed boy sat beside her.
Who was he? I do hope they will be great friends, I thought.
Little did I know how much, Marinette needed him, and he needed her.
