Kagami's POV:

    The next evening, after supper, all the children sat on the sofa except Ted, who sat on his father's lap. I was pleased they all gathered together without much prompting. It would make it easier to pick up where I left off by telling them our story.

      "I was at the locker when some bully came up and was about to pound me. I braced myself for impact. Only it never came," She said.

       The new boy came up to the bully and spoke. " Hey you, what do you think you are doing picking on a girl?  You should be ashamed of such brute behavior.  Girls are an important part of our lives," he said. "Oh, and what is it to ya, newbie," The bully scoffed. He had not released his hold on my arm yet. He still had a fist balled up headed toward my face. "Leave her alone," The new guy shouted. "Oh, and what are you going, to do about it, nerd?" The creep asked.  "You asked for it, " he shouted. Next thing, I knew the bully's face was smacked hard. 

    He ran off screaming about how unfortunate the new boy was tough enough to hit him.

    I looked up relieved no harm had come to me. "Thank you," I said. "You are welcome," he said. "I am Kagami Tsurgui, and you are?" I asked. "Felix Graham Devanily," He answered. I offered him my hand and he shook it. "Pleased to meet you, Felix."

     Felix and I walked into the class next, but I had forgotten my books.  Felix sat at the desk next to mine. He opened his book letting me look on with him.  "Ooh, look it is smurf girl and nerd boy," a voice scoffed as the bully sat behind me. Ugh, I hated that guy.  "Her name is Kagami, and I am Felix, now be quiet, the class has started," Felix said. I smiled.  

 Mr. James Smith, I suggest you keep quiet, or I will have to ask you to go to the principal's office," the teacher said.   The rest of the class went by smoothly with no more interruptions. 

     After class dismissed I  looked for Felix, but did not see him. I was disappointed. I went to the next course without a word to anyone. I sighed. The bad boy came to the class and saw I was alone. Great, I thought.  I  did not need this. 

     The rest of school went well, but I was sad. I did not understand why I only saw my hero for one class. Was he avoiding me?  He went to lunch, the creep approached me again. I ignored him. This only seemed to annoy him more. "Miss Smurf, you better speak to me, why is the nerd not sitting here?" He scoffed. "His name is Felix," I said.  "Go away, James!" I shouted.

        The principal caught him trying to harm me and he was sentenced to after-school dentition.

          Later when the bell rang, I started to walk home. I heard footsteps behind me. I looked up to see Felix smiling at me. I frowned. He laughed. "It is not funny. You abandoned me earlier, and I had to deal with James alone. If it had not been for the principal he would have beat me up during lunch. Where were you?" I asked. "I am sorry, I was busy. I had mostly higher-level courses, except for one, and during lunch, I could not find you," He said.

           Felix offered me a ride home. I agreed. I thought it could not hurt this once, could it?

      I got out of the car when I arrived home, my mother fused and fumed. "Who have you been with Kagami?  " She slapped me when I refused to answer. I was tired of the abuse.

    Suzie sucked her thumb. Ted squirmed on his father's lap. The others looked at me shocked. 

     "Darling, it is okay, you are safe now with all of us. She can't hurt you anymore and neither can James," Felix said. 

         I walked over to Felix and hugged him and Ted. Then, I hugged the other children.

       "I will tell you all more soon, I promise," I said with tears.

    "Poor mommy had a bad past," Maggie said. She had tears in her eyes as well. 

       "Mommy, I love you," Suzie said. 

 I tucked the children into their beds assuring each child our love for them. 

   "Good night, Mom," They said.
