Unopened Letters by Summer Cheng (@SummerCheng37)

Description

Marinette finds a box on her porch. It contains a series of unopened letters.

Where did it come from?

Marinette's POV:
I hear the bell ring and go to answer it.

Strange, I see a box, but I was not expecting one.

   I take the box inside.

I take it to my room and open it.

Inside are over a dozen envelopes, unopened ones.

Each is addressed to Adrien Agreste.

  Who is he?

How did the mysterious package with all this unopened mail end up at my house?

Why didn't this Adrien Agreste person get his mail?

It says it is from an Emilie Agreste.

Who is she? His mother? His sister? Who?

What am I to do with these?

I know a man named Gabriel Agreste on the outskirts of town.

I do not recall his having a wife or any children.

Could Adrien and Emilie be related to him in some way?

I know I shouldn't tamper with someone else's letters, but I must know more.

I open the first of the series of letters. I can tell because the envelope has one on it.

I gasped as I read it.

  Dear Adrien,

My son, I am so sorry.

Sorry for everything.

I am badly ill and in the hospital.

Not that it will do me any good.

I  want to see you for Christmas.

Do you think you could make it?

I miss you and love you so much.

   Love,

your mother

I was right all along about  Emilie because she was Adrien's mother.

I did not read any more of the letters because I felt bad enough that I tampered with the first one.

I made sure to return it to the envelope.

The next day, I posted an ad in the newspaper and a notice in the local Paris magazine about the mysterious letters addressed to Adrien Agreste. I added, "Will the rightful owner of these long-lost letters come forward, please? It is of the utmost importance."

I did not expect any response. I went to work and was surprised when I returned home to see a shiny, red car in my driveway. Whoever he was had to be rich.

I got out of my vehicle, walked past the red car, and entered my house.

I screamed when I realized I was not alone. Someone had followed me into the house.

"Who are you?  You better watch it. Step closer, and I will call the police, you here me?"

   I heard laughter.

"Miss, calm down. I came to respond to your advertisement in the paper. I knew immediately it meant my mother had not forgotten me all those years ago before she passed away. I also knew it meant I was supposed to come to reclaim what was mine."

I looked at who spoke in shock.

It was a man who stood taller than me, with blonde locks, green eyes, and a nice smile, and he wore a rather dashing suit.

   "You are Adrien Agreste?"

"Yes, Miss, and you are Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the one who found my mother's letters."

"Oh, you wait right there while I get them for you."

I went and retrieved the letters. I felt my hands shake as I handed them the envelopes.

I saw him frown when he noticed the tear across one.

"Sorry, I never meant any harm. You see I opened the letter to find some clue about the letter's owner and now I feel so bad. I am sorry. I don't blame you if you want to press charges."

To my amazement, Adrien Agreste grinned. He stood up and hugged me.

"Thank you, Miss Dupain-Cheng, you don't know how much this means to me."

With that, he left, never to be seen again.  So, maybe it was not that dramatic, but he did leave, and I have not seen him since.

Til the next one-shot Miraculous story,

bye-bye, little owlets!

Summer out!
