Problem HotLine one-shot story by Summer Cheng (@SummerCheng37)
Description
Emma Agreste creates this secret hotline online under a false name. She does this to keep her identity safe and to assist people. What happens when someone calls the hotline with a bigger problem than she can handle?
Emma's POV:
I went into my office.
I wore my disguise and made sure to use my fake voice.
I could not risk the chance of anyone finding out that I am the host of the Problem Hotline.
What is the Problem Hotline? Funny, you should ask. It is an online site where people can post or dial in their problems. I do my best to solve them with my stunning skills.
"Yes, caller number 1, of the day, what is the problem?"
"It seems my brother is a big tattle tell, and I do not know what to do about it."
"I suggest you confront him and let him know how much it troubles you. Maybe, then he will see the error of his ways."
"Thanks so much, Miss Problem Solver."
I hear static for a while before the next caller picks up.
"Caller number 2, you are on live."
I listen as she goes on about her crush.
"I suggest you be yourself, and he will notice you. If not, then it is his loss."
"Wow, thanks, Miss Problem Solver or problem hotline."
"Sure, don't mention it."
Caller number 3 was rude. He refused to stop cussing. He seemed upset for some reason.
"Did you call to rant or for advice?"
"Definitely, for advice, sorry for the language. I was accused of cheating on a test in class, but I did not do it."
"I suggest you be on your best behavior and continue to study hard to bring up your grades."
"Okay, but what about last week's History test, I got a 98 on it, but the teacher thinks I did not deserve the grade. I studied is all."
"I suggest you ask to retake the exam."
"Also, may the accuser be made to retake it, separately from you."
"This way, it will be easier for the teacher to discover the real cheater."
"Thanks, that sounds like the best advice yet."
Caller number 4 "You are all set."
I listened as this caller called to say she did not know how to tell her mom.
"Tell your mom, what exactly?"
"Her pet kitten got out by accident, and I did not see the cat when I backed up the car. Now, the cat is dead. I know mom will be devastated."
"What should I do?"
"I suggest you tell your mother the truth, and hopefully, she will understand it was an accident."
Caller 5 The last caller for the day.
I did not hear a thing. I shook in horror at the words across the screen.
"Help me! I am afraid for my life. Someone is after me."
"I tried to call the police, but they think I am only joking around."
"I am too young to die. What do I do?"
I had not gotten any text in a while, let alone one so horrid as this one.
Was it a prank or for real?
"Caller, you still there?"
"Yes, please, problem solver, help me!"
"I can hear his footsteps drawing closer, and he has a knife."
"What should I do?"
I panicked, unsure what to say.
The police refused to help.
How was I to know the creep was not after me next?
I screamed. I typed in I am sorry, I do not know. I cannot help you.
The last message across the screen was the words, "You better run! He says your next!"
I ran out of the office in fear and hid. I did not think much about it. I might cancel the next segment of Problem Hotline. It is far too risky to continue as long as the criminal is on the loose.
I can only hope Caller 5 survived somehow. I sure hope so. If not, I am sorry I failed to help you.
the end
Until the next one-shot story,
bye-bye, little owlets!
Summer out!
