 Nathan tries to deny it.  He can't be falling for her. She probably does not even love him. How could she? He is a nobody. He is no one special. He is only a silly man with a crush.

   Find out by reading this  Miraculous one-shot story.

Nathan's POV:

  I  am a Lahaffe, and I can't be in love.

  I can't be. I am only seventeen.

  I try to convince myself of this as I arrive at the school.

  I am on time for once.

  "Hi, Nathan," I hear her say.

  I look up at her and see her hair cascading down her back. I gulp. Beautiful I think. She is simply breathtaking.

   "Hi, E-Emma, " I mutter. Why am I always like this around her? She probably thinks I am a loser.

     "You okay?" Emma asks. I feel my feet about to give way. I start to fall and brace myself for impact. Only, someone catches me. I look up into her gorgeous green eyes. Yep, I am in trouble. Not just anyone caught me it was her, Emma Agreste.

        "If I didn't know any better, I would say you were falling for me, Nathan Lahaffe," Emma teases me.

         "Uh, I better go," I blurt out. I ran to class before I could embarrass myself more.

   "Could you believe that guy, Emma?"  Madison my best friend inquiries.

   "Yeah, Emma, it is obvious he is totaling crushing on you," Elizabeth my sister says.

     "Who Nathan, no way, he is just a friend," Emma says.

     "Sure keep telling yourself that nonsense, and maybe you will believe it girl," Hank says. Emma knows he likes Elizabeth.

   "Oh, you are the one to talk, Hank, can't even tell your crush you like her, "I tease him.

     "Emma Agreste, that was not nice," Hank whines.

           The others glare at her. "Yeah, Emma even for you that was a bit, harsh," Madison Kurtzberg remarks.

             Elizabeth wonders, Who does Hank like? Is it anyone we know? She is not sure why, but she feels a bit jealous.

             "Emma, Nathan is my best friend, and I hate to see him; get hurt. He already has a hard time as it is, because his mother died and his father does not even seem to care." Hugo says.

            Emma goes to class and the others follow. She slides into her seat right in front of Nathan. Madison sits beside her.  Hugo comes and sits beside me. He whispers, "Sorry, dude, my sister is as stubborn as they come." 

              I nod my head. I already know she calls me "a friend," and I try not to let on that it hurts to hear her say it. I never meant to love her. I sigh. Why did it have to be her?  Out of all the girls in school, why did I have to go and fall in love with Emma Agreste?

              Ladybug seems to like me, but how can I return her feelings when I feel, the way I do; about Emma Agreste?

       The bell rings and I watch Emma go to her locker. Someone comes behind me and shoves me into her.

      "Ouch! " I cry out in pain as we both come crashing down. I land on top of her. I stand up before I can kiss her. I help her up.

        "Nathan, your lip is bleeding," Emma says. "Here, take my handkerchief," She remarks before I can say anything. I nod my head.

         I run into the bathroom with the handkerchief, turn on the water, and clean off my lip the best I can with it, and a paper towel. I dry it. I put the handkerchief in my pocket. I sigh as I think about how kind she was to help me.  

        I pull out the pink object and blush. It has some of her makeup on it. Does she know? Did she do this on purpose to humiliate me?

        I return it to my pocket.

          I come back and see her standing outside the lockers. I can tell she has been crying. I have no idea why. 

         "E-Emma?" 

    "Nathan, what are you doing here? Have you come to make fun of me too?" Emma asks.

   "Make fun of you, why would I do that?" I ask.

         " Well, N-Noah asked me out, and I had to tell him, I have to ask my parents permission first. The others think I am a joke now." Emma says.

         I feel my heart break. I try to be here for her. I hug her. "Emma, it is not stupid. I think it makes sense to be sure your parents approve of Noah first," I tell her. The whole time, I am thinking why him? Why him and not me?

        Emma hugs me. She does not know that it makes me feel sad. To have her hug me while she goes on about another boy. It is always someone else. Someone is always in my way. Why, Emma?  Why do you do this to me?

  A few days later, Emma arrives late to school. I see her run past me to him. I watch in horror as she kisses Noah on the cheek. I sigh. Maybe, I have lost her for good. Perhaps, Noah is the one she loves. Is that the boy she told me about her crush?

      Noah smiles at her and kisses her cheek. Emma blushes. I think why, can't you give me the same look you give him? Why am I always in the friend zone? Is that all I am to you, a friend?

   After school, I see Noah flirting with Madison. How dare he? He asks Emma out, and she says yes and he flirts with her best friend.

     How dare he!  I go up to him and punch him. I see his chin bleed. There, I thought that should show the jerk that he couldn't try to take Emma from me and then hurt her.

        Little did I know that someone saw me.

  "Nathan, how could you? I thought we were friends. How could I be so wrong about you?" Emma asks with tears in her eyes.

    "E-Emma, you don't understand," I began.

   "Nathan, shut up!  You don't know anything," Emma yells at me. She reaches up and moves her hand towards my face, but I stop her.

      "Listen, Emma, he is not who you think. I saw him with Madison." I say.

      "Nathan, get lost. We are not friends anymore," Emma tells me.

     "W-what?" I stutter. I must have heard her wrong. It couldn't be that she told me what I thought she said.

   "You heard me, I can't be friends with someone who lies because he is jealous," Emma sneers.

         I feel tears form once more. No, I thought. Emma, please don't hate me. I ran off hurt more than before. I could not let her see the pain she brought me. Falling for her was far too painful.

      Emma smiles at Noah. She has no idea that Nathan told the truth. She only believes what she wants to believe. She thinks Noah is her Chat Noir. He has to be because who else could be him?

    Little does she know, Noah is only toying with her emotions. He only asked her out because he knew it would make Madison angry. See he likes Madison, but they had a fight. He did not tell Emma that he was already dating Madison. Madison did not tell her either. 

Narrator's POV:

     Nathan walks home. He enters his room. He does not say a word to his father. Why should he? His father stopped caring about him years ago. He lays on his bed sobbing. "Emma, why? How could you pick him over me?  He is not what you think." He does not notice when an akuma enters through his open window.

     The akuma lands on Nathan's jacket. He hears someone speak and knows he should fight it off. How can he when the girl he loves said she did not want him as a friend? It was bad enough being just a friend, but being no friend was even worse.

    "Yes, I will, "He replies. It is almost as if he is in a daze. Plagg finishes some cheese and sees Nathan turn into a villain.  Plagg hides and thinks great it is all that Emma's fault. She is the one who is to blame.

        Back to Emma and her friends...

   Emma and Noah go out together. Madison glares at them. She is annoyed. She thought it was supposed to be a prank, asking out Emma. After all, Noah had kissed Madison and Nathan had seen them together.  Madison does not get why her boyfriend is dating her when he is always hers.

  Ugh! Madison is furious now.

Another akuma lands on Madison's backpack. 

Author's note: Yes, I know two people are akumantized. I know Hawkmoth did it, but it is partially Emma's fault. She unfriended, Nathan, and betrayed Madison. What did she expect?

    Hank and Elizabeth notice the sky is dark. Oh, boy. The two run off in opposite directions.

  Hank looks at his kwami, and the kwami nods. Hank transforms. He was sick that day but went to school because he had been out already. 

  Skunk Boy runs off to help fight the villain. He only got his miraculous a few days ago.

   Elizabeth does not transform because her miraculous has not been given to her yet. She hides in her home. She sees Skunk Boy go past and blushes. 

       Emma is distracted by Noah. They are eating together when someone bursts into the place. 

"Emma, give him back!" Spatter says.

    "Who are you?" Emma asks. She thinks great now I need to transform. In the middle of my date too. Ugh.

    "Yeah, get lost," Noah states. "Is that any way to talk to your girl?" Spatter asks.

       "Madison?" Noah asks. He is afraid.

  Emma enters a stall in the bathroom. "Tikki spots on!" She transforms into Ladybug.  

  Ladybug goes to help Spatter. "Snap out of it, Madison," She says.

   "The name is Spatter, and you have more problems than me, bug." Spatter laughs.

            Skunk Boy fights with the other villain. He goes by  Shatter.

             "Shatter, what has gotten into you, boy?"  Skunk Boy asks.

          "The girl of my dreams shattered my heart. She told me we are not friends." He sniffs.

      Skunk Boy continues to fight Shatter while Ladybug is up against Spatter.

     Shatter tries to make Skunk Boy sad. He can't seem to succeed. Spatter attempts to hit the ladybug with her paints. 

    Ladybug thinks, where is Chat Noir, I could use his help right now. She notices Noah is not there. Did he go to transform?

   Noah is hiding under the table terrified. He sees Spatter throw paints at Ladybug. Ugh, he must have taken the prank with Emma too far. No wonder, Madison is like this. He sneaks out from under the table. He grabs Spatter from behind. He kisses her neck. He smiles when the akuma flies free. 

   Ladybug catches it. She thinks wow, that was quick!  At least now, I don't have to deal with that one anymore. 

     She hears laughter as two people enter the place. It is Skunk Boy and it looks like he brought someone with him.

     Noah leaves with Madison. He holds her hand and apologizes for not telling Emma it was a prank. Madison forgives him. She kisses him. Noah kisses her. 

         Ladybug is so busy helping Skunk Boy fight Shatter, that she does not see Noah leave. She is grateful for his help in defeating Spatter. 

         "Shatter, you look familiar," Ladybug states.

       "Oh, do I now," He scoffs.

         Skunk Boy realizes she is conflicted. He can't let Shatter take her down. "Ladybug use your lucky charm thing."

       Ladybug nods her head in agreement. "Lucy charm!" She gets a mirror.

         "A mirror, but how does this help?" Ladybug responds.

  Skunk Boy decides he has enough with Shatter. Shatter attacks  Ladybug. She screams in pain when some blood comes out of her arm. Shatter remembers when Emma helped him with his hurt lip.

     "I am sorry, Emma," Shatter mutters. He does not know Ladybug's identity, he says this because he feels he let her down.  The akuma flies free. Shatter turns back into Nathan.

   Ladybug whinces in pain. Skunk Boy uses his odor powers to keep the akuma from flying away.

       Ladybug looks into the mirror. She sees herself from earlier that day saying mean things to Nathan. She gasp. This is her fault. She tosses the mirror in the air, and shouts, "Miraculous Ladybug!"

  The damage to everything is fixed. Her arm is healed. Everything is healed except for two things.

   "Don't go anywhere, Nathan," Ladybug says. She kisses him.

   Nathan sighs. He wishes she meant it. How could she? 

     Ladybug runs off and detransforms. Emma comes back.

 Emma looks for him. She sees Nathan standing there. "Nathan, you were right, why did not I listen to you?" She asks with tears in her eyes. Nathan pulls her to him. "It is okay, Emma, darling, I forgive you."

      "I am so sorry, Nathan," Emma weeps. She heard him forgive her. She is still in shock. She almost lost her best friend because of her selfish behavior.

       "Emma, You were right," Nathan whispers.

      "What do you mean?" Emma asks. She looks into his eyes and blushes. Wait, why is she reacting this way to Nathan? She doesn't like him, does she?

       "When you said I was falling for you, you were right. Emma, I -I  have never felt this way about a girl. When my mother died, I promised myself not to love anyone. Then, you came along and the promise died. You see, I love you,"  Nathan confesses.

       Emma gasps. Nathan loves me. She sobs more. Nathan kisses her. Emma closes her eyes. She does not push him away anymore. She knows now that she was wrong. He is not just a friend. He is the boy she loves. She opens her eyes.

 Nathan starts to run off. Emma chases him. This time he is not going anywhere. Not without her telling him the truth. "Nathan, I know it is crazy, but I felt like I could die when I thought I had lost you." Emma confesses. "what do you mean?" You were not even there. I mean sure Ladybug was but..." Nathan trails off. "Shh, Nathan, I was there. I always have been. I am Ladybug." Emma tells him. Nathan gasps. All this time, she was Ladybug but he rejected Ladybug. 

       "Emma, I am glad," Nathan says.

   "you are not disappointed?" Emma asks. "No, why would I be, my lady?" Nathan asks. Emma pulls him closer. "My Chat Noir," She whispers. She kisses him. Nathan smiles. He kisses her. At last, his Emma is where she belongs here with him. "Your Chat Noir, I like the sound of that princess," Nathan says. Emma laughs. She knows for sure he is him. 

          The others see Nathan and Emma together. They tease them. Emma does not care what anyone thinks. She is happy because Nathan is hers and she is his.  Madison is relieved Emma is not upset that Noah pranked her. Emma sees Noah kiss Madison. "you get her, boy!" Emma squeals. "You are not mad?" Noah asks. "Nah, I have my perfect man here," Emma answers. She kisses Nathan.

       "Awe would look at that Noah, Emma loves Nathan," Madison cues.

     "Yes, well that is fine because I love you," Noah confesses.

 Madison smirks. "I love you too, Noah."

 Hank goes to check on Elizabeth. He sees her out on her balcony. "Hi, Liz," He says.

   She spins around. "H-Hank?"

   "Yes, are you okay?"

  "Yes, but how did you get up here?"

  "Your mother let me inside and told me to go ahead," He says.

   "Ah, yes, my mother would do something like that," Elizabeth replies.

          Hank holds her hand. Elizabeth smiles as she squeezes his hand.

        The end...
