If he was being completely honest, Félix did not like his birthday. There was nothing more unsatisfying than being one year closer to his inevitable death and having nothing else in his life change. He thought the celebration in itself was a complete and utter waste of time. Why would someone go through the trouble of spending an entire day just celebrating the day someone decided to be born?
Throughout the years, he had celebrated his birthday alongside someone else - his twin brother, Adrien - and it was probably that fact that made the idea of a celebration so stupid. Most people had their "special" day to themselves, while he and his brother had to share it.
This year was no different. He walked down to the staircase into the foyer as he was making his way to the kitchen for his breakfast. He was almost surprised to see Adrien by the door with a group of three other people. He recognized them from the school that they went to. There was Nino, Alya, and Marinette, three of Adrien's closest friends. He had commonly seen the four of them together. They seemed to do everything together, it was a little bit weird how inseparable the four were, at least to Félix.
"Hey, Fe." Adrien smiled at his brother somewhat awkwardly as he held the door open with one hand with a small latte in the other, just about to leave. "Happy birthday, bro!" He called, followed by his friend's muttering a chorus of 'Happy birthday's' as well. "Chef made your favorite for breakfast. It's in the kitchen!" He yelled as they filed out the large door, shutting it behind them.
Félix nodded as they left and made his way to the kitchen. He saw the plate on the counter - there were a few apricot crepes, a cheese and pepper omelet, and two slices of sourdough toast. "Were we out of wheat?" He inquired, his question directed at the chef, but as he looked around the kitchen, he found the chef wasn't even in the room.
"Sourdough it is." Félix muttered distastefully as he picked up the piece of unembellished toast, nibbling at it. Though he didn't care for the taste, his expression stayed neutral. That was probably why he had never gotten a meal that he actually cared for. His lack of visual feedback on everything he ate made people think he simply enjoyed everything. Problem was, that wasn't the case.
He had a tendency to be verbal about almost every opinion he had, but it was hard for him to be verbal about his food when he was busy eating - he had manners. Who talks while they're eating?
Félix grumbled his complaints under his breath as he set the toast down to take his plate to the dining room table. He put the plate down on the table before returning to the kitchen to make his coffee. He rummaged through the cupboards looking for the coffee beans, until he came to the conclusion that they were all out.
"You've got to be kidding me." He scoffed. "All these people work for us and none of them can go out and get some more coffee?"
Félix made his way back into the dining area, taking his seat in front of his plate at the large table. "I've never understood why we have such a big table. Only two people eat here at a time. Tops." He felt a little awkward talking to himself, but he usually had Plagg with him to communicate with. Unfortunately, Adrien decided to take the kwami for the night, leaving Félix to his own devices.
He enjoyed his breakfast for several minutes until Nathalie came into the dining room, and if he wasn't mistaken, he could have sworn he saw a smile on her face. "Félix, there's someone in the foyer waiting for you. A friend of yours?"
Félix stopped eating momentarily, shocked, though he didn't express it too well. "No." He answered simply, resuming his meal.
This answer clearly surprised Nathalie. "She said that she is a friend of yours and has requested to see you. Unless there is another Félix Agreste under this roof-."
"No. Not me. She's got the wrong address. Tell her to leave. Whoever she is." Félix had just taken into consideration that he didn't even know who was at the door, nor did he have any interest in finding out. If one thing was for certain, he was not a social person.
"Go have a social life. Have fun like you're brother does. Oh, and happy birthday." She nodded once before exiting the room.
Félix wiped his face with a napkin, then stood up from his seat. "I guess I have to shoo this girl away myself. And get some coffee while I'm at it." He murmured, making his way to the foyer. He stopped and froze as he reached the room.
"Bridgette." He sighed audibly. "Why are you here?" He asked, taking note of the beautifully wrapped package in her hands. He stared at it momentarily as she spoke.
"Hi, Félix! Happy birthday!" Bridgette said gleefully, holding out the box that was in her hands.
Félix was almost irritated by the smile she was wearing. It was bright enough to light a windowless room, and he didn't like it at all. "My brother already left. But I'm sure he can get your present when he gets home." He turned on his heel to leave again, when she stopped him with only a few simple words.
He didn't know why he was so affected by the three words, and he didn't know if he wanted to actually believe her or not. There were too many doubts in his head for him to actually believe her, but at the same time, were any of them really valid?
"It's for you." Were the words that escaped from her lips, putting the stoic man in a state of confusion.
Félix didn't turn around to face her just yet, waiting for her to continue to speak, if she wished too. He felt as if she had a lot more to say.
"I saw Adrien, and I asked him where you were so I could give this present to you. I worked really hard on it, and I got a lot of cuts on my hands." Bridgette held up one hand to show an abundance of bandages covering it. "My sewing machine was acting all weird and so I used Marinette's, but hers is even weirder, so I messed up a lot trying to figure it out. Anyway, Adrien, he told me that you were at home, because you were lonely and didn't do anything fun on your birthday, and so I thought that maybe I'd ask you if you wanted to go out and do something special."
Félix finally turned around, his arms crossed in front of his chest. He was stubborn. It was one of his identifying traits. "And why would I go anywhere with you?"
Bridgette took a deep breath, slight irritation showing when she exhaled, but she kept her positive demeanor. "Because it's your birthday and you deserve to do something special just as much as Adrien does." She stared into his eyes, almost speaking with her eyes. It was as if she was saying, 'I am not leaving until you agree to come with me. Try me.'
The two maintained eye contact for what felt like hours before Félix let out a deep sigh. "Fine. And only because I need some coffee and we're all out."
Bridgette's eyes lit up in excitement and faint shock. "Really? Awesome!" She skipped over to him, smiling up at him as she held out the box for him to take. "Here, open this first."
Félix looked from her eyes to the box, then took it from her smaller hands. He didn't say anything as he untied the ribbon from around it. He lifted the top from the box and revealed a green scarf. He glanced back up at her to see her with a bright smile still.
After a few moments of the two simply staring once more, Félix left the room. As he did, Bridgette's smile slowly started to fade.
Until he came back, wearing the scarf around his neck. "Had to take care of the box." He stood beside her, looking down at her with a raised brow. "Coffee?"
