Genderbent ~ Hogwarts AU

Marin was never expecting this kind of outcome: to be placed in Slytherin. Though, after six years of being in said house, he was a little bit over it. Yet when he came back each year, he was a little hurt to have to go back to the same house as Clovis Bourgeois.

It really was only Clovis who made the situation a bad one. Slytherin was not a synonym for evil by any means. It simply meant that you were cunning, determined, and weren't afraid to use whatever means necessary to get to your goal. But Clovis just made it a living hell. Not only did he have to go to the same school as the blond, but he had to share a dorm room with him.

Marin wanted to be sorted into Gryffindor, like his best friend Alyn, but that wasn't the case. The sorting hat said Slytherin, which boggled both Marin and Alyn when it had happened. Of course, both had grown to be over it.

Although it doesn't happen much, Marin often gets called quite cruel names simply for being in the house he's in. They all think he's evil just because he was placed in the Slytherin house. He never fought back, but Alyn definitely gave them a piece of his mind. He was quick to rebut any insult thrown at the blue-eyed male. Marin was thankful, but also felt slightly guilty about having to have his friend fight all his battles; he was more than capable of doing it on his own if he wanted to. He just didn't want to.

Slytherin was always the house of evil to other students, at least those who weren't in the Slytherin  house, or at least affiliated with someone in it.

Marin could deal with it. He didn't really notice it anymore. He was too busy dealing with his studies. And he was happy this way. He was one of the only students who could cast a patronus upon his first try.

His patronus had always been a koi fish. It symbolizes good fortune, courage, ambition, and perseverance.

And it had been this way for a while. He liked his patronus quite well. But then, one day, his patronus changed.

The cold, harsh winter winds blew down on Marin as he blew into his hands to keep them warm. He had been trying to avoid going back to the dorm, seeing as though Clovis was in a particular pissy mood.

He was content, for the most part, sitting out in the snowy weather. He didn't have much of a problem with this weather. He found it calming.

Marin was only surprised when he felt a fabric wrapped around his neck. He looked down. Yellow and blue. Certainly a Hufflepuff, but what Hufflepuff in their right mind would want anything to do with him? He was a Slytherin. He turned back to face whoever put this on him and was greeted with kind, soft green eyes. He felt his heart burn, even in this cold weather.

"It would be bad if you caught a cold," the girl smiled, her blonde hair now covered with snow. "Right?"

Marin nodded, the wind whipping colour into his cheeks. "Y-Yes, thank you, uh..." He stopped, not knowing her name.

"Adrienne." Adrienne finished for him. "We should head inside. It's almost time for dinner. Aren't you hungry?"

Marin simply nodded in response, following the girl back inside.

And since then, his patronus was no longer a koi fish. Instead, it was a cat.
